Gavin has been my rock and my refuge in
all of this. He took me back in or
rather helped have all my things moved from the house I shared with Ian back to
the apartment. I broke down several
times as boxes were carried in and was in no shape to actually go over to the
house to help pack my things. I spent
the day on my bed, soaking my pillow in tears.
I don’t know what I would have done without Gavin. He rarely left my side at the hospital. He has been home caring for me almost night
and day since I returned. I hate to
think about the toll I’m taking on his work and his social life. I know it’s selfish of me but I can’t
function without him right now. I need
someone to lean on and for me; Gavin is the only one. Ian would have been the only one but… Well, I don’t want to think about that right
now. Dr. Somers was adamant that I rest
my brain. No excessive reading or
watching tv; nothing that would really stress my brain, just rest, is what he
told me. I’ve tried to follow orders as
best I can.

I’d thought about getting a place of my
own when I left the hospital but Gavin would not hear of it. “Gav, I’m so sorry that you have to deal with
all this. It can’t be easy for you. I don’t blame you with the media circus and
everything if you don’t want me to come back and live with you.”

“Stop it.
I won’t listen to another word of that dribble. You will come home to our apartment and we
will eat bad chinese, get drunk and go dancing.
Once you’re feeling better that is.
And there’s nothing you can say to stop that.” Gavin’s so great to try to cheer me up. He knows I need someone to lean on and
without Ian, well, I don’t know what I would do without Gavin.

My schedule has consisted of wake, run,
lay in bed, go for an evening run on the days I don’t meet with Dr. Reeves and
then home to shower and go to bed for the night. It wouldn’t have been too much of a stretch
to say I was depressed. I knew I needed
to talk with someone, a professional.
Dr. Somers insisted upon it when I was in the hospital and introduced me
to Dr. Reeves. When I first met with
him, I didn’t think I would ever be comfortable enough to share my story with
him. Hell, I couldn’t share it with the
people that were closest to me, how would I share it with a complete
stranger? But I guess that is what makes
him the professional. From day one I
shared my life with him and he helped me walk through what it all meant for my
future.

I’ve tried to contact Ian. The 100s of voicemails that probably went
un-listened to, the texts that are too numerous for me to even fathom, daily
emails and calls to his office and the house attest to the fact that I wanted
to talk with him. Everything went
unanswered. I still remember the pain in
his voice from that brief time in the hospital.
He was broken. I’d done that to
him. I wanted to wrap him my arms but
couldn’t even manage to open my eyes. I
wanted to plead with him, to explain everything, to tell him it was the only
way to protect him, to let him know that I planned to tell him everything that
night before Dean came to the door. I
just wanted to stop him from leaving. I
remember hearing the door close and the knowledge that there was no going back
hit me full force. Ian’s gone and I’m
left here. Alone.

Nightmares have plagued me nightly since
the attack. I’m hopeful that therapy
will help alleviate them if not stop them all together. I know they are a manifestation of my fear
but I really don’t want to be afraid anymore.
Most nights Gavin has either had to calm me after the nightmare or sleep
in my room because I can’t bear to be alone afterward.

Only once do we talk about Dean being at
the hospital. Gavin said he looked like
he was studying me. He didn’t make any
move to touch me but kept mumbling about coming back to him, being with him,
loving him. It’s hard to come to grips
with the fact that Dean is essentially two people, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde if
you will. There’s the one side that
actually seems to care for me but it’s more the kind of care that a master has
for his pet. Then there’s the sadistic
side, the side the reveled in my pain; the side that only wants to take, take
from me, take from my father, take everything and that would kill me in the
process. That Dean was the one I had
come to know so well after our engagement.
I tried so many times to break things off with him; either he would
convince me to come back or force me to with threats, eventually I thought my
fate was sealed. I had no idea anyone could be so cruel, evil. But Dean showed me time and again that I had
no idea what real evil was until him.

Sinfully dark and delicious. I loved every angsty moment.

For those of you that have read Jennifer’s books, there is always a little bit of magic in the background so it really did not surprise me that she would take a dip into the paranormal romance genre. I am really glad she did because this novella is not only an excellent read, but it is very different from other paranormal romances. The storyline is very original and Dante’s secret powers are not like any that I have ever read about before. If you want something new and unique to read this weekend, this is it.

Dante is forced to hide in the shadows day and night because of who he is. Jennifer does a nice spin on Superman’s Clark Kent as Dante works in the mail room at Stark Enterprises which he owns as Daniel Stark. He has been smitten with Selina Rogers for years but has never let himself think about exploring more because of who he is. She is kind, generous, and self-less and is a bit of a loner like himself. She keeps to herself and no one really knows anything about her family or where she came from. She is quite the mystery to him.

Selina is focused on her career. She has worked really hard to get where she is and needed to focus on her goals so she kept people away. She did not want any distractions. The sexy man who delivers her mail has her all tied up in knots. Daniel knows her better than anyone else and over the past few years they have become good friends. But seriously, a rendezvous with the mail boy would jeopardize her standing and she has worked to hard to get where she is so she can only admire from afar.

Until..

One night when Selina is attacked and Dante comes to her rescue. He looks familiar but not. Once Dante gains Selina’s trust can he reveal who he really is or will it ruin everything he has tried to make right.

Like by JA Huss is the second book in the Social Media series. It is the scorching sequel to Follow. This second installment burns up the pages and feeds the flames between Grace Kinsella and Vaughn Asher.

Grace Kinsella has returned to Denver after a steamy fantasy island tryst with movie star Vaughn Asher. She has walked away with a very different impression of Vaughn Asher. The real Vaughn Asher is very different from the fantasy man she built in her mind. She has come to terms with this reality. She is ready to presume her normal life and forget her fantasy man.

Vaughn Asher has different ideas. He did not get enough of Grace to satisfy the dark need he has inside. Something about her natural beauty, mouthy attitude, sexual curiosity, and air of mystery has him intrigued. He hunts her down, through some sneaky hacking, and challenges her dirty side of tweeting. He gets her to agree to twexting with him and then shows up on her doorstep.

From the moment Grace answers the door, she is no longer in control. The Master, Vaughn Asher is there in the spotlight. His determination to dominate her is more than she can handle. He wants her to sign a contract to be his sub exclusively. His gifts and planned out seduction are Grace’s downfall.

Will signing Vaughn’s contract be selling her soul to the devil himself ? We will have to find out in the next book, Blocked.

In Follow, the readers got an in-depth insight on who Grace Kinsella was. Her personality, insights, and reactions were the main focus in the plot. In Like, the readers got into Vaughn Asher’s head. The book is based around his personality, his drive, and his demands. It will be interesting to see where Block will take the readers and who’s personality will dominate the next installment.

JA Huss is writing a smoldering serial that has readers wanting more. It is brilliant that she is using the social media as part of the plot. The characters are very intriguing and the plot is creative. I highly recommend The Social Media Series.

JJ Knight has done again. She is the master of writing serial romance. Her gift with creating charismatic characters, sexual tension, escalating suspense, and the chilling cliffhanger in each installment amazes me. She quickly concludes the cliffhanger from the previous book with a satisfying resolution that does not feel rushed or insignificant. She then starts building the suspense and moves the story along with great ease. By the end of the book you’ve got another cliffhanger that has your emotions in turmoil and wondering what is going to happen next. Each book is unpredictable. Her characters capture your attention and the romance is hot!

We were left questioning Dylan’s actions while Jess is away on business in Rome. We were left feeling quite pissed off at the man and wondering how JJ Knight could redeem his infractions. We were feeling the emotional trauma that Jess was feeling. JJ Knight jumped right in and gave us the Jess we know and love. She is a strong, take charge kind of woman that sees both sides of the coin. She’s not one to sit around whining and moping. She is smart enough to use reasoning before reaching a final conclusion. She has enough trust in their love to not over react. That is what I love most about her.

So the media has been having a field day with Dylan since Jess has been gone. She’s questioning his faithfulness. Although Dylan has been unreachable since the pictures hit the internet she is trying hard not to jump to conclusions. When Dylan finally shows up in Rome they are able to resolve some of the media issues. What should of been a romantic weekend in Rome turns sour when the media exposes pictures of Jess while she is in Rome. Dylan reacts badly and disappears. It appears that this couple is heading for a huge break up.

Once Jess returns home to the United States she is determined to get to the bottom of Dylan’s disappearance and the latest media scandal. What she uncovers is shocking. Her and Dylan’s relationship is being destroyed by some new unknown players in the game of L.A. fame. Not only is their relationship down in the dumps, it looks like Dylan’s career is going along with it. Will Jess discover who is behind the destruction? Will she find Dylan before it’s too late. Is their relationship beyond repair? Read Blue Shoes Vol. 2. You are in for quite a few surprises!

I highly recommend this serial. There are only three books in this serial. We won’t have to wait too long for the next installment in the series.

He put his phone back in his pocket just as Max arrived, settling into his usual seat. “I have to say, for a man who insists he’s not going to renew his membership, you’re here all the time lately.”

Max knew exactly why Decklan was here, so there was no point in answering.

“If she does show, at least tell me you’ve got a plan?” Max said, pushing as usual.

“I have no fucking clue.”

“Well I hope you get one.” Max slapped him on the back. “I see Emmy giving me the eye. I’m going to go remind her who’s the Dom,” he said. “You ought to find a sub and do the same.”

“Have fun,” Decklan said, ignoring the suggestion. He wasn’t in the mood. Hadn’t been for a long time, but especially since that night. Since Amanda.

He glanced around the room, familiar with all the spaces and places in the club. The St Andrews cross on the wall was occupied, a dark haired female getting pleasure from absorbing pain. His gaze slid onward. A group of men sitting and talking, their subs at their feet. A quick look confirmed she wasn’t one of them. His emotions were already frayed tonight and if he found her with someone else, he couldn’t promise himself he’d keep a handle on his temper.

He ordered a Glen Livet on the rocks and tried to put his night with her in perspective. Chemistry. They’d had that in spades. But there was something more to her. A strength combined with a vulnerability he didn’t see often. They’d clicked in bed and out. He’d had fun with her, a word he never associated with sex. And most importantly, the thing that unnerved him the most, she tempted him to want her touch. To free her from the restraints so he could feel her soft hands on his cock, her nails at his back, and her arms wrapped securely around him.

Shit. He shouldn’t be here. Didn’t need that kind of intensity and seriousness in his life.

She wasn’t here again, something he took as a sign. Definitely time to go.

He stood, pushed back his chair, turned and saw Amanda paused at the threshold to the main room. His breath left on a whoosh of air, the unexpected sight of her when he’d all but given up, a shock to his system.

Over the last few weeks, he wondered if he’d over exaggerated the memory of her affect on him. No such luck.

Her head bowed, hands clasped together, she was clearly working up the nerve to enter. And every muscle in his body tightened at the sight.

She finally lifted her gaze and glanced around the room, her stare lingering on various places and people, just as he’d done earlier. And then she looked towards the bar. The sounds around him, the people, the lights, everything dimmed. There was only her.

Whatever it was, it was still there.

He’d waited for this moment and now that it was here? Decklan had never backed away from a challenge. He wasn’t about to do so now.

Breathe, breathe, breathe, Amanda told herself. But the very sight of Decklan was both a relief and sent her into panic mode at the same time. His dark eyes slid over her and for a brief second, she feared he was going to dismiss her. She’d unravel if he did.

Then he rose and slowly walked across the room. All the air left her lungs. She hadn’t imagined one thing about him or the intense physical attraction he inspired. Today he wore the same type of outfit, black denim and a black tee-shirt that hugged his masculine, well defined body. She had no doubt he worked out and she still wanted to feel those hard muscles beneath her hands. If he’d let her.

He strode up, so close she was enveloped in his delicious scent, and all her strategic female parts went on red alert. Her nipples suddenly ached for hands, his mouth, his teeth.

“Tell me you came here for me,” he said, not beating around the bush. At all.

Decklan Dare likes control. He wants and needs to be the one holding it. Amanda Collins desires the freedom that comes with letting someone else be in control, the escape that comes with submission. When the two of them come together, boundaries will be tested and redrawn.

Carly Phillips, thank you, thank you, thank you. I have read and loved every single one of the DARE series, and have found each and every one of the Dare men hot and sexy. But Decklan, oh, my goodness, Decklan. Maybe it’s that he’s a man in uniform. Or that he knows what he wants when it comes to women and is DEFINITELY not shy about letting them know. Or that he loves his family completely and would do anything for them. Okay, it’s everything about this guy. He is the total package, except, well, he’s definitely not looking for the ‘C’ word. You know, commitment. He knows all too well that the ones you love can be ripped from you with no warning. He’s been through it, and is determined to guard his heart to prevent feeling that loss ever again. But, the heart wants what the heart wants, and his wants Amanda.

I love the relationship between Decklan and Amanda. Despite being adamant that he doesn’t ‘do’ relationships, he is hyper-protective from their first encounter. He sees how her self-esteem has been damaged by those closest to her, and will do anything to assure her that she is precious. And Amanda truly understands Decklan, and sees how he has come to the place that he’s in emotionally. They are like the perfect yin yang, the perfect fit for each other.

Lauren once again delivers sizzle, spice, and everything naughty and nice. Megan and Becker light fire to the pages of this hot and sexy read. A strong leading lady and a sexy alpha male. What more could you ask for?

Megan has been asked to return to Hidden Oaks to shoot their annual firefighter calendar. Megan is perfectly content to take pictures of half-naked, sexy firemen because she has no intention of ever dating one. She lost her father years ago when he was fighting a fire and refuses to ever get involved with a fireman. Her mother was destroyed when her father died.

Becker moved to Hidden Oaks to escape his past and start anew. He is not looking for a relationship because his last one ended so badly. As Fire Captain he finds that women want him based on that alone. He could have his choice of lady of the week so why settle. When he catches Megan undressing in the alley behind his bar he can’t keep himself from staring at her. He is hidden in the shadows and he quickly begins to appreciate her sexy body.
