ARC Review: Cowgirl Crazy by Becky McGraw

Synopsis

Twyla Taylor is one frustrated cowgirl. She’s not winning at barrel racing or in love. She’s spent ten years nursing a crush on her brother’s best friend, Ryan Easter, who thinks of her as no more than his little sister. When Twyla catches Ryan with yet another no-good buckle bunny, and calls him out, he tells her to get a life, and that is exactly what she decides to do. One that does not include a buckle-bunny-chasing cowboy with a bad attitude, or an overbearing older brother.Ryan Easter is one frustrated cowboy. He’s winning every night at bronc riding, and has a different woman in every city. Mostly so he can keep his best friend’s fiery little sister, and his desire for her, at bay. Since she grew those proud little breasts of hers, and mile-long legs, Ryan has had to fight his attraction to her. If her brother knew what he was thinking, he would kill Ryan, if her daddy didn’t first. Ryan valued the surrogate family the Taylor’s provided him with too much to ever go there with their youngest member.

His diversion techniques work like a charm, until one night he pushes her too far, and Twyla takes off. Ryan knows he has to find her quickly and apologize, or face his best friend’s wrath. He finds Twyla in Dallas and decides she’s definitely gone cowgirl crazy. He barely recognizes her, because his barrel-racing tomboy is wearing makeup that looks like it was put on with a putty knife and she’s working at a bar which borders on a cowgirl strip club. When she isn’t serving shots off of her stomach, she’s shaking her round ass for any man with a dollar to shove into the waistband of her barely-there shorts.

Twyla refuses to leave with him, and Ryan knows he better make his final arrangements, or come up with another way to convince her and fast.

 Tracey’s Review
What do you do when the man you’ve loved for almost your whole life doesn’t feel the same? When he treats you like a little sister and tries to run your life? Well, if you’re Twyla Renee Taylor, you pack up your horse and you leave town, determined to make it on your own. And, if you’re Ryan Easter, said man, you pick right up and go after the girl, because she can’t possibly make it on her own.

‘Cowgirl Crazy’ is the second book in ‘The Cowboy Way series,’ and is full of Becky McGraw’s signature details. All of the characters are very nicely developed, with big personalities. Twyla and Ryan are great; watching them interact while their story evolves is as entertaining as it is sexy. Because, along with all the heat and chemistry, there is also a lot of humor, another trademark of Becky’s writing. Seeing Twyla and Ryan bring out the best in each other makes for a sweet and romantic read. As well, the supporting characters, especially Twyla’s brother Zack and her friend Heather, really help make the story that much more interesting.

Although relatively new to her books, I have become a fan of Becky. There’s not much sexier than a hot cowboys, and she writes great stories full of them. ‘Cowgirl Crazy’ is no exception, and I very much recommend it. I look forward to reading Zack’s story, ‘Too Hot To Trot,’ in the near future.

“No, she needs to listen to me. You both do.” Quinn’s voice was implacable. He pushed Kara’s thighs up so that her knees were almost on either side of her breasts. “Hold her,” he commanded his brother. Ben reached down and grasped her legs behind the knees, keeping her open for Quinn’s perusal. She gasped as she looked down, seeing the top of her sex splayed wide with Quinn so big and imposing leaning over her, looking directly into her eyes. “You will listen to me, little one.  I refuse to hurt you.” He set the condom to the side and swiped his fingers through her wet sex, pulsing with need even more than when Ben’s cock was deep in her mouth. Then she felt him enter her, and it was much more than before. Where before he had used maybe two of his sizeable fingers to stroke inside her, he now had to be using three, and she arched up in welcome. Then he pulled them out, taking more of her silky essence with him. Then he pushed more fingers in again, and she winced at the burn.

“It hurts, doesn’t it, Kara?” He demanded an answer. All she could do was nod her head yes.

Finally she gasped out, “It hurts good, Quinn.” She saw his relieved smile. He continued to pump in and out, until finally she was pushing upward to meet the rhythm of his entry, glorying in the sense of fullness, in the connection with this man. She saw his amber eyes glitter as they watched her intently, assessing her body’s reaction. He took his fingers out to suck them in his mouth, and she shuddered, watching him relish her flavor as his face flushed.

They’d been right to blindfold her. She was now experiencing every sense, and it was amazing. She watched as he picked up the condom, and ripped it open with his intensely white teeth. As he sheathed his cock, she tried to reach forward to touch him, but Ben’s grip kept her in place.

“Next time, Kara,” Ben soothed. “We want to make you feel good. Let Quinn do this.” She watched and felt as the broad head of his cock, so much more than his fingers, snuggled at her needy entrance.

“Oh, my God, can you see this, Ben?” Quinn looked up with a stunned expression, including his brother in this most intimate moment. Ben bent forward over her head, getting a better view. She gave a huff of dissatisfaction that she couldn’t see what they were seeing.

“She’s incredible, brother,” Ben said in a strained voice. Then Kara felt the liquid push just trying to breach the tight muscle of her opening, and she couldn’t help but flinch at the discomfort. Quinn looked deep into her eyes. He felt the resistance of her body, and knew that his girth had to be causing some pain.

“Help her, Ben,” Quinn instructed, while he held still. Ben kept hold of her left leg but gently lowered her right leg, and then his fingers were hovering over her engorged clit, and just one touch had her gasping in reaction. As if he understood that anything more than a featherlike touch would be too much for her swollen bud, he softly caressed her, causing sparks to emanate from that one spot to her entrance, relaxing her and allowing Quinn to slide deeper, until the head was buried inside her, filling her. It was wonderful. She felt the heat and power of the man, and she thrust up, needing him deeper. Again, he looked carefully into her eyes, gauging her ability to accept more. When he determined that with Ben’s ministrations, and her own longing, he could continue, he sank further, until she felt him nestle against her womb.

“Yes, Quinn,” she wailed. “Nothing has ever felt this good.” Ben took his fingers away and she grabbed his wrist, trying to hold him, but he easily moved his fingers to his mouth and sucked them clean, savoring her essence and wetting the digits even further. Then he put them back to where she so desperately needed them and pressed and circled even harder, and that’s when Quinn started a slow pull out, followed by a faster thrust in, once again tapping softly against the mouth of her womb, causing her to spasm in delight. He continued, faster and faster.

“Harder and faster, both of you, harder and faster.” She was thrashing her head. She felt the slight flicker of childhood firework sparklers, and they were building to firecrackers popping off as she whimpered with excitement.  Then she felt a roman candle going off, and finally she screamed as the deafening grand finale came and the night sky exploded into showers of color.

Kelley’s Review

Have you ever gone too far to protect someone that you love?

Claiming Kara is a heartwrenchingly beautiufl love story that is sinfully sexy.  Kara is a brilliant character in that she is smart, tough, and goes all in with her heart when she truly loves someone.  Ben and Quinn should have been thanking their lucky stars to have a woman like Kara even consider being the tip of their triad.  Instead Quinn pushes her away in order to keep her safe and Ben lets him do it.  They seriously underestimate how strong Kara is and what she can handle.  These men are strong fishermen.  It is what they do and Kara knew that their jobs were dangerous when she entered a relationship with them.

The men in this story are scorching hot alpha manly men with rough hands and soft hearts.  I fell in love with Ben first becasue he really loves Kara for who she is.  I really enjoyed seeing Quinn fall hard and fast and being scared to death.  Caitlyn really did an excellent job of developing the characters and making them stronger as the story progresses.

I consider myself an avid reader of menage romance and for the most part in my experience with menage stories sometimes the plot is weak and the story is alll about the sex. Caitlyn O’Leary knocked my socks off with this read.  This story takes you on many twists and turns and I find myself really identifying with Kara.  Where some heroines flip flop about their feelings, Kara puts her foot down and I appreciated that.  I would have stood beside her as friend because she had every right to be angry with her men.

If you like Lexi Blake/Sophie Oak menage romance you will find that Caitlyn O’Leary is a writer that you will really enjoy.  I can’t wait to see what Caitlyn has in store for us next.

Author Interview

DID I ALWAYS WANT TO BE A WRITER?

The idea of being an author has always been a something too out of reach.  I focused on climbing the corporate ladder instead.  When I got this job doing project management where I could telecommute….Well, why not take that time I would normally be in the car and see if I had what it takes to actually be a writer.  After all, reading 500 books a year costs quite a pretty penny!!!  LOL  😉

WHY WRITE A SERIES?  WHY WRITE FATE HARBOR?

Out of all the books that I read, I love it when an author will give me a series.  When a really good book ends, but then I realize I will have an opportunity to dip back into that world, I am SO happy.  So that’s what made me decide to write a series.  As to why I wanted to base my series in Fate Harbor, Washington, well I LOVE the Pacific Northwest.  The people and landscape are so diverse and welcoming.  I grew up there, and I’m always so happy to be welcomed home when I go for visits.  The only two things I might not accurately portray in my books is just how many MFM relationships there are, and how often it DOESN’T rain.  LOL  (People, to be as green and pretty as it is, it rains….A LOT!)

WHICH HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE BOOK TO WRITE?

I love them all.  Claiming Kara has a lot of my family in it.  I’m the oldest of five children, and we meddle in one another’s lives a lot.  So it is definitely near and dear to my heart.  Trusting Chance is nearest and dearest because it is the first book I have ever written.  Part of the reason I wrote Trusting Chance was to show that you could build a family even if it isn’t through blood.  That people care for one another, that they really can support and love one another.  Also, I wanted to show that even if bad things happen in childhood, that you can heal and grow from it, and become a strong person because of it.

WHY HAVE YOU CHOSEN TO WRITE EROTICA?

Erotica is sensuality.  It is something that makes me squirm in my seat and get hot and bothered.  It revs me up so that when I see my husband I’m ready to grab him and rip his clothes off.  My readers often tell me the same thing.  They definitely enjoy my stories and they relate to the characters.  When they think about the characters, they agonize over the situations that they go through and in some cases readers have actually been moved to tears on their behalf.  But when it comes to the sex scenes, many claim that that a good “hot flash” would provide them with blessed relief from the steam generated by my characters channeling their passions.

I used to read the old style romances.  You remember—the ones where the sex scenes were done behind closed doors, and the reader was not privy to them.  But to tell you the truth, I wasn’t satisfied with them.  I’m a caring, empathetic person, so I wanted to know that the heroine was sexually satisfied.  After all, she’d usually gone through hell and back to be with her lover.  Was he worth it?  Inquiring minds want to know!!!

As a writer, however, one of the things I want to do is show my readers how my characters could learn and grow to overcome personal obstacles and become better people.  I wanted to show real life situations in which people solved their problems to claim real life rewards.  Why wouldn’t I want to discuss how a woman could bring pleasure to a man performing oral sex?  Why wouldn’t I want to I want to say it was healthy and right for a woman to expect a man to return the favor?  Sex is a wonderful part of life and should be celebrated.  I want to show that to women.  That said,it also wouldn’t hurt if the men in our lives read these books.

GOOFY STUFF ABOUT CAITLYN THAT PEOPLE HAVE ASKED AND I’VE ACTUALLY ANSWERED.

Boxers or briefs?  Well, I like the boxer briefs, but my husband goes commando, so I’ve found I like that best.

Tall, Blonde and Muscular or Taller, Dark and Handsome…..Hubby is number #2, so I need version #1 for a good menage….Hubby keeps saying no.

What’s your favorite sport?  Love watching basketball, these days my favorite game to play is probably golf.  Sometimes I graduate from putt putt to an actual course.

What’s your favorite swear word?  “The Eff Word” it has many uses, it can be used as a noun, a pronoun, an adjective, a verb, an adverb, etc., etc. etc.

What’s your favorite food?  Froot Loops, like the Eff Word it has many uses, it can be used as breakfast, lunch, dinner, an afternoon snack, a midnightsnack, etc. etc.

What was your worst vacation?  A 9 day family road trip, five kids ages 5-14, over 100 degree heat, no air conditioning in the family station wagon.  The highlight was visiting a copper mine in Utah.

What was your best job?  My company sent me over to Brussels for almost a year to help set up Belgacom Yellow Pages.  It was great!

What has been your best inspiration lately?  Navy Seals from San Diego have actually commandeered the swimming pool at my community complex a couple of Saturdays, so I couldn’t swim my laps.  I was initially pissed off.  HOW STUPID WAS THAT?!  I then sat down and enjoyed the show.

From my 3 books, one of my favorite excerpt is really one between Chance Reynolds and Sam Booth.  So often the men have to help one another and depend on one another.  Their friendship is critical to this kind of story.

Chance leaned back on the dock, admiring how clear the day was now that the clouds had disbursed. “Did you ever consider the possibility that you might have an inferiority complex? That somehow your parents fucked you over into believing you weren’t worthy of anything good? So whenever something bad happens, you blow it out of proportion and let it justify your underlying belief system?”

“Jesus, Chance, are you planning on putting out a shingle? I already have a shrink.” Sam took a long pull from his beer and reached for another.

“Nope. I just figure it’s time I said my piece, because this is important, and I want it to work. You and Josie fit because you both come from the same fucked-up childhoods. You can really relate to one another, and help one another. I fit, because I can lighten the mood. You both need me. Not to mention the fact that neither of us is going to let the other one have her to himself.”

“There is that. You try to take her away from me, and they’ll never find your body,” Sam said in a pretty serious tone that made Chance laugh.

“You could try, brother. You could try,” he said, still laughing.

Sam looked over at him, and realized it might not be as easy to take down Chance as he would like to think. “Yeah, yeah, I’ve thought about why I have a glass-half-empty outlook,” Sam admitted.

“No, you don’t have that at all. You always see the good in others. You see the good in a lot of different situations. But when it comes to yourself, you have a broken mirror. You, son, don’t think you are good, nor do you think you deserve anything good.” Chance paused, letting his words sink in. “Do you want Josie?”

“I’ve had Josie,” Sam said with a great deal of satisfaction.

“Do you want Josie for the long haul?” Chance asked. Sam took another swig from his beer, trying to picture his very long life without Josie in it.

“Yeah, I want her. But I don’t know how I can do it.”

5 Quirky Things About Aidee

by Aidee Ladnier

I write about quirky characters because that’s what I know. I’m a pretty quirky individual myself. Here are a few things you might not know about me.

I’ve designed my own shoes

literaryshoes

I really, really like shoes–not high heels—flats. A friend made the mistake of telling me about a company that lets you design your own shoes. Sure enough, they had lots of heels and one template for flats. I immediately started tinkering and then ordered my author shoes. Here they are! Words are so pretty, aren’t they?

I’ve sent a ping pong ball into space.

pingpong

JP Aerospace, a volunteer DIY space program was raising funds to send ping pong ball sized science projects by elementary school children up to the edge of space in 2012. As a lover of all things science and science fiction, I gave money to the cause. In thanks, they let me put a ping pong ball in with those of the children. I ran my own ping pong ball sized experiment and got the thrill of seeing the video that included my experiment coasting in space among the stars. Here’s a picture of my ping pong ball before it went up to space. Which leads to my next quirky fact…

I fold so many origami cranes that I use them as packing material when I mail boxes

It all started when my computer began running slow at work. I would have to reboot often and I found I could make two origami cranes in the time it took my computer to restart. Then I began folding cranes in meetings to keep my hands busy so my brain could stay engaged (think of it like doodling with folded paper). Now it’s a crutch. Whenever I’m stressed, I fold a bird.

Whenever I’m worried, another crane appears. I have to say, my Christmas gifts to my family are enjoyed as much for the crane packing material as they are for the gifts.

One of my poems inspired an indie pop song by the band Correatown

As a thank you for supporting her album on Kickstarter, Angela Correa offered to write a song for me. She asked what I’d like to provide as inspiration and I gave her a love poem that I wrote for my husband. The song that resulted was beautiful and I gave it to him as an anniversary gift that year. If you’d like to hear Distillery by Correatown, you can do so by going here: http://aideemoi.tumblr.com/post/26007891265/you-know-several-years-ago-i-was-divorced-over-a

socksI have an extensive collection of silly socks

There’s really no excuse for the socks I own. They are all colors of the rainbow, some have animals on them, some have strange shapes, all are fun. It’s wonderful to wake up not sure you’re ready to face the day and then put on some goofy socks. It changes everything around.

Of course there are other quirky things about me that didn’t make it into this list–several of them are listed in my bio, in fact. I’m of the opinion that adventures are everywhere. You just have to recognize them. So may the quirk be with you and remember, have fun today.

Aidee’s Love of Robots 10 Minute Video (she really loves robots)

The Forbes and Oliver Playlist for The Break-in

I have to admit when I’m looking for songs to fill a playlist for a story, they have to meet one of two criteria:

The lyrics have to match what a character is feeling

The song has to capture the mood of a scene

That said, here are the songs I chose for this story and why. If you’re interested, I created the playlist on YouTube so you can listen to the whole set here: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLaf-IXveR9pUKgijDcluQcrnjwxiYpGz2

Moving On by Needtobreathe

I think this song captures Forbes at the start of the story. He’s waiting for his lover to reappear when their stars align but is contemplating moving on. It encompasses that kind of sad but inevitable feeling that you might be waiting for nothing.

Mission Impossible Theme

Okay, I know this is a pretty cheesy pick, but I am dead certain that Wilson, the self-appointed leader of the technology thieves, insisted that this music be played in the van on the way over to Forbes’s lab. Oliver was lucky he drove his own motorcycle to the scene, because they would have come to blows over the endless repetition of this song.

99 Problems by Hugo

I know the Jay-z version is more famous, but I love the almost folky sound of this song. This is Oliver’s song as things start to go south. He’s suddenly on the wrong side of both Forbes and the gang of thieves he’s working for.

Take On Me by A-ha

Shameless 80s guilty pleasure music. THE BREAK-IN is set in the near future, so I’m going to say Forbes has it in his music library because his parents listened to it.

Ruler of My Heart by Irma Thomas

I love the soulful sound of Irma Thomas. This is definitely a Forbes song. He’s waited so long for his lover to return and when he does, it’s not at all in the way he expects.

Jeepers Creepers by Frank Sinatra

I had to include this song. It’s Jeepers’s song! The little cat robot embodies this quirky little ditty. He probably plays it in the house whenever Forbes leaves—which could explain why he was so grumpy that Forbes blew off the blind date at the beginning of the story.

Do It Alone by Sugarcult

Forbes would understand this song. He doesn’t want to be alone anymore. He’s willing to beg Oliver to stay.

With you by Natalie Walker

The lyric “Love takes time and time is on our side” is perfect for THE BREAK-IN. Forbes definitely found his life changed by Oliver and as a result his love didn’t fade despite time and circumstance. It’s a sappy song but those are okay sometimes.

Life Less Ordinary by Carbon Leaf

This song embodies Forbes and Oliver’s relationship. They are somehow a lot less ordinary together and together they will have an extraordinary life.

Little Wonders by Rob Thomas

This song is for the end of the story. The hardest part is over for both Forbes and Oliver. The twist and turns of fate have left them exhausted and time has fallen away. It’s definitely the heart that really matters in the end.

All Will Be Well by Gabe Dixon

This song is my song. As the author, I want to tell my characters that all will be well but only time will tell. There are a few more Forbes and Oliver stories to come.

Kelley’s Review

Aidee Ladnier captured my heart with this little novella. The love that Forbes shows for Oliver is breathtakingly beautiful.

Forbes met Oliver once upon a time and fell in love. When Oliver left him it would have destroyed him except that, Oliver promised to return to him in the future. Forbes knew that when Oliver returned he would be a younger version of the man he fell in love with, but never in his wildest dreams would he have expected the young man who broke into his lab.

“I’ve got to make a living. I’ve got other people who depend on me, and a part-time job at the Quickie Mart isn’t gonna cut it.” – Oliver

Oliver is young and scared but he has a job to do. His mission is to steal Forbes’s most recent invention and he has to complete his mission no matter what the cost so he can get paid. He desperately needs the money to keep him and those that rely on him alive. When Forbes starts talking about meeting him in the past Oliver does not believe him.

This is the point in the story when I cried. Oliver just had to believe Forbes. He could not just walk away could he?

I am really looking forward to the next book in this series. Great job Aidee. You had me at m2.

Michel’s Review

* 3 Stars *

Rushed by Gina Robinson is the first book in her spinoff of the Reckless series.

Rushed is a New Adult book. It starts out on Rush week at the college. It highlights the trials and tribulations of becoming a sorority pledge. We follow Alexis as she tries to select the sorority that has been a legacy in her family. She is under pressure and does not feel this is the right choice for her. But she can’t fight against the legacy her family has laid down before her. We will experience the interview and selection process.

Once the Rush week is over we will witness Alexis become a member of the sority. We will see her struggle with their ideals, fellow sisters, and the idea of dating certain men from approved Fraternities. The one man she wants is not a member of a Fraternity. He is a house boy for her sorority. A mere servent in the eyes of her sorority sisters.

Zach is a brilliant young man with a truckfull of baggage. He is attending school on scholarship and working as a houseboy to make ends meet. He is financially strapped, emotionally damaged, and off limits to Alexis. He has hidden secrets that he will carry throughout his life.

As the story evolves this couple will enter a forbidden secret affair. They will have to hide their relationship from the sorority, the fraternity, and Alexis’ family. They will have to hide their relationship because it could ruin them both. Zach has a powerful enemy. Alexis has a devious sorority sister that wants her out and Zach’s attention. Zach can lose his financial stability. Alexis can lose her family’s respect.

This is a truthful story of how some colleges view the Greek communities in colleges. The reader will see segregation , a class system, and some mild hazing in this book.

The reader will also experience the highs and lows that come with a forbidden relationship. They will see two young, beautiful people struggling to find a way to fit into their chosen world.

Rush is a good story with a good plot. There is emotional drama, plenty of angst, romantic scenes, blazing chemistry, powerful enemies, and a climatic ending. The writing was good, the pace of the story was steady, the plot well developed, and the characters were endearing.

I liked the book but it was not a light and fun new adult romance. Considering the subject matter, how could it be? This subject might not grab all readers. Many are not aware of the Greek community systems in most American colleges.

I am looking forward to the next book in the series and have enjoyed the previous series , the Reckless series, in which the Rush series has spun off of. Crushed, Book 2 , will be out in the fall of 2014.

Synopsis

When devastating news brings an abrupt end to a romantic rendezvous, Livvy Holland struggles to accept the death of one of her closest mentors. Livvy’s artwork has always been an expression of her emotions, and avoiding the pain she feels from her recent loss makes painting seem impossible. Her inspiration gone, she devotes her attention to the future she’s planning with Jon Scott.

Blissfully happy in her own denial, all of Livvy’s free time has been given to the boy she’s always loved. Facing grown up decisions, she finds it hard to live up to her parents’ expectations of her as a daughter and an artist. Under her father’s constant scrutiny and persistent surveillance from curious paparazzi, Livvy finds it difficult to maintain the adult relationship she’s begun with Jon.

The changes in Livvy are evident to those closest to her, and a few that were once her allies begin to interfere with her personal life. This newfound attention – along with distractions that take Jon’s attention elsewhere – cause Livvy to question all the choices she’s made: what college she’ll attend, what man she should be with, and what she thought was her life’s purpose.

Livvy faces her greatest challenge when Jon’s unanticipated plans derail her own. Overwhelmed, confused, and longing to satisfy her own wants and needs, Livvy must endure more heartache before finding herself.

This book is intended for mature teens and adults.

Robin’s Review

Lori Otto is best known for her Emi Lost & Found series – a series about the life of Emi Hennigan, including a prequel and three of the most beloved and heartbreaking novels that I have ever read. If you have not yet read the Emi Lost & Found series, I highly recommend it! Be sure to read Not Today, But Someday, Lost & Found, Time Stands Still and Never Look Back – in that order – before beginning the spin-off Choisie series.

Lori Otto introduces her readers to a charming young lady named Olivia Sophia Holland in the Emi Lost & Found series. The novels of the Choisie series center on the life of Olivia Holland. They are titled Contessa, Olivia and Livvy. I would like to express my appreciation to Lori Otto for the opportunity to review an advanced reader copy of the second novel of her series – Olivia – in exchange for my honest review.

Olivia Holland is a sixteen year-old high school senior at the beginning of Olivia, having skipped a year ahead in high school. We are told that her Granna (Donna) passed away while Olivia was out of the country. Olivia was commissioned to paint a portrait of Donna prior to her death. The portrait was to hang next to the portrait Olivia had already painted of Donna’s son, Nate. Donna was always a positive force for Olivia. She was her teacher and mentor, encouraging Olivia to discover her creativity and to grow as an artist. Olivia knows that she disappointed her Granna because she had not finished her portrait prior to her death. She feels incredible grief and guilt, which results in her loss of direction and incentive to paint. Olivia also does not want to move on to other projects until she has finished Donna’s portrait. She loses sight of many things that are important to her – her artwork, education and the relationship she has with her father and family.

Olivia’s artwork has always defined a part of who she is. Without her art, she becomes absorbed in her relationship with Jon. He becomes the primary focus of her spare time. At the beginning of the novel, Jon is eighteen and beginning his freshman year of college at Columbia. He has his own struggles in Olivia. His mother and brothers are extremely important to him. Jon has accepted a role as a father-figure to his brothers because they have no father in the picture. Jon attends college classes and attempts to maintain his grades, while also hoping to give his brothers some stability at home. Their mother is an alcoholic. When she loses custody of his younger brothers, the boys are eventually placed in the custody of their aunt in Utah.

Olivia and Jon have grown up together. They have a very tangible love for each other, but they are both very young. Jon gave Olivia a promise ring in Contessa – they are both extremely young to be involved in the type of emotional and physical relationship they have found themselves in. At times, Olivia can be bratty and self-destructive, whereas, I felt that Jon had matured quite a bit in this novel. Although Jon obviously loves Olivia, his primary focus is on his family and studies. He is willing to sacrifice his teenage freedom to provide for his brothers. Jon realizes that Olivia is still very self-centered and not mature enough to handle the serious type of relationship that they have. I believe he understands that Olivia needs to experience life and grow as an individual before they can make a serious commitment to each other.

I found the character growth in this novel to be brilliantly written. It makes perfect sense that Jon would be more responsible and self-sacrificing; not only is he older, but he has experienced a harder life. Olivia has always had what she needed. She has wonderful parents, but they have micromanaged her life to protect her from the press, paparazzi and people that would take advantage of their family wealth. It is very obvious that Olivia has some growing up to do. I want to commend Lori Otto for writing the perfect ending to Olivia. I have no doubt that great things are ahead for Jon and Olivia in the final novel in the series, Livvy. Five outstanding stars for Lori Otto’s Olivia!

Choise Series:

Contessa – Book 1

ContessaBook one of the YA/New Adult Choisie series by the author of Emi Lost & Found!

When she was four, a generous couple welcomed orphan Olivia Sophia into their lives. As she grew up, her parents made good decisions for her, raising “Livvy” to be an intelligent and creative young girl. Now sixteen, three people influence many of her choices: her first love, her second father, and a third man who speaks to her through his artwork.

Livvy’s father is practical and steadfast; even-tempered and quietly observant. She’s an artist who acts on her emotions and thrives on attention. Unhappy with their differences– and misunderstanding her father’s methods– Livvy chooses to focus on the similarities she shares with an enigmatic painter from her mother’s past. Her overactive imagination leads her down an obsessive path– one that only stands to hurt everyone around her.

The distraction of a new boyfriend has the potential to end her search and reunite her family, but his involvement in her life could be just as devastating, taking Livvy away from her father for good.

Mature YA for limited sensual content.

Michel’s Review

How To Reprimand Your Rock Star by Mina Vaughn was one of the most original books I have read. It was fun, delightful, a bit quirky, and had some interesting characters. Although it touched lightly on the BDSM theme, it was done with an original touch. The characters performed their roles, Domme/ Sub, with what felt right for their relationship. There were no dark moments and every sex scene had a delightful feel to it.

Thea is a star in her own right. She is a gifted basketball player. She is on the verge of becoming the Rookie of the Year if she can stay focused on her game. She doesn’t have time for a needy relationship. But when she meets the cocky rockstar, Keaton Lowe, she has a new game to focus on.

For Thea, exploring this relationship with Keaton is about control. For Keaton it is about relinquishing control ,which he has never done.

With the help of mentor, Thea will become more confident on the court and in the bedroom. She will explore her sexuality and her inner strengths.

The benefits are just as good for Keaton. For the first time he doesn’t feel like a performer. He can let go of his persona and reap the benefits of letting go. It is freeing.

What starts out as an experimental relationship evolves into loving relationship. It is a loving relationship that has mutual respect and commitment to each other as individuals. Their devotion to each other will make the reader melt.

This is not a BDSM story. It has some kink but not the full blown scenario we are accustomed to reading in the BDSM theme. This is a story of two people finding love in a fun way.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books from Mina Vaughn. She has a fresh voice and creative mind.

Lasting Fate Excerpt:

Preston
I pull into the drive and the garage is open. I’ve told Kinzleigh to keep it shut. It’s a nice area, but that doesn’t mean we don’t get strays from time to time looking for easy access to steal. Kinzleigh’s mom should be here soon to help her with the baby for a few days. Maybe she’s already here. I could use her help so I can get some work done. I’m swamped with projects and a new baby is more work than I thought. I try to give Kinzleigh a break when I get home.

Pulling under my garage door, I park and kill the engine. I grab my satchel that I take back and forth from the office and step out of my beamer. It’s been a long day. I grab the knot of my tie and pull, loosening it. When I get to the door my heart drops to my stomach. It’s cracked. My first thought is that someone has broken in. I push it open and walk inside.
I drop my bag at the door and pick up pace when I hear Bryce screaming at the top of his lungs. A fear I’ve never known races through my body. What if she’s hurt? “Kinzleigh,” I call out throughout the house. I get no response. When I make it to the living room Bryce is lying in his bassinet screaming and Kinzleigh is lying on the couch staring off into space like a zombie, ignoring him.
His face is blood red like he’s been crying for a while. I reach over and pick him up, pulling him to my chest. “Hey, buddy. Shh, shh, shh. It’s okay,” I say as I rock him. It’s not helping. He’s obviously hungry or wet. Hell, I don’t know. I’ve never had a baby before and I’m a guy. I would get cranky if I was hungry. Kinzleigh is breast-feeding, so I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.

“Kinzleigh, when is the last time you fed him?” I look over at her, still attempting to calm him down. My ears are stinging from his constant crying. I can’t think. She has not even acknowledged I’m in the room. “Kinzleigh, what the fuck?” The only type of response I get from her are tears that fall from the corners of her eyes and they trickle down her nose before dropping onto the leather of the sofa.
“I can’t,” is all she says and goes back to staring off into space. What the hell does that even mean, she can’t?

“You can’t or you won’t? What happened to you? Are you sick?” He is still screaming, so I reach in the bassinet and get his pacifier, hoping it calms him a little until I can figure out what the hell I’m supposed to do now.
“I can’t,” she says again. She’s not even looking at him. I begin walking towards her in an attempt to see what’s wrong and get her to feed him. She closes her eyes before I get there. “Please don’t. I can’t hold him. Please, take him somewhere else. Please…” I don’t understand. She was fine when I left for work. I try to give him his pacifier. We don’t have any formula, because she wanted to feed him naturally. How does everything change so drastically in twelve hours?

He takes it for a second before he figures out nothing is coming out of it and spits it back out, now mad as hell. I can’t deal with this shit right now. I’m worried about her, because she’s not acting right, but I have to get him calmed down first. Pulling out my phone from the pocket of my slacks, I hit one of the contacts in my immediate access list. It rings for a minute before the line picks up. “Preston? It’s seven thirty and the sitter just left. Do I need to call her back? Is that Bryce? Is he okay?”
Her voice is drowned out by his crying. I walk out of the room with the phone up to my ear. “Hey, Macie. I need your help. It’s an emergency. It’s about Kinzleigh. You can bring Talon.”
“Anything, Preston. Is she okay?”

I peek my head back in the door. She’s still lying on the couch in the exact same position she was when I left. She is still staring at the wall blankly, no emotion registering on her face. “I don’t think so. I came home and Bryce was screaming in his bassinet. She’s just lying on the couch in a vegetative state. She won’t hold him. I have no idea when she’s fed him last. Can you bring some formula?”
“I think I know what’s wrong with her. I’ll be right there. Give me fifteen minutes.” She doesn’t wait for an answer before disconnecting the call. I slide the phone back in my pocket and begin bouncing him slightly while I pat his back. His tiny head is resting against my cheek.

“It’s okay, buddy. We’ll get your mama fixed, okay? Don’t worry. She must have a reason for letting you cry, she has to. You’ll love her. She’s kind of hard not to love.” His cry is dying down, from the exhaustion I’m sure, but not stopping completely. I stand in the doorway watching her. I’ve never in my entire life seen her like this, not even when her grandmother died. It’s like her soul has been sucked from her body, leaving nothing but a hollow woman lying in this big house.
I’m scared to know what that means. I need to talk to Macie. I have a strange feeling I’m losing her. I’ve never been in love with a girl like I’m in love with Kinzleigh, and I never will be again, but I can’t stand seeing her like this. If this is going to be the girl she becomes, then I’ll have to make another choice, one that is going to forever destroy me for a woman. I won’t trap her. We were happy before he came back. I won’t watch her disintegrate and become lifeless to preserve my own happiness.

The realization occurs that if she doesn’t get better I may have to let her go. Watching her lay as if she is alive, but dead, is killing me inside. I’ve never been an emotional guy until I went back to Mississippi that night and saw her the way I did. Something changed in me that night. From that point forward it wasn’t about me, but her. I learned that when you love someone, you do what’s best for them, even if it isn’t what’s best for you.
I want to walk over to her right now, but I have to take care of Bryce first. I made a promise to love and take care of both of them. I’m going to keep that promise for as long as I can. Right now I’m scared and I don’t know how long I’m going to get to hold onto what has become my family. Just because this child doesn’t share my blood, he still shares a piece of my heart. I kiss the top of his head. He finally cried himself to sleep, but he won’t be asleep long. Macie should be here soon. I can tell his diaper needs to be changed anyway.

I stare at the girl that captured my heart from the time I was just a teenager. I’ve really grown into a man from then to now. I rub my thumb back and forth on Bryce’s head, above his ear. “I need to leave you for a minute, but I promise I’ll come take care of you,” I whisper into the air in her direction. “I love you, Kinzleigh.” My eyes fill to the brim with tears, but I close my lids before they have the chance to fall. She doesn’t have room in her life for someone that can’t contain his emotions.
I kiss the top of his head; his baby smell fills my nostrils. “I love you also, buddy.” I hold him close to me and begin walking in the direction of the stairs and towards his room. I’m going to savor every moment with the two of them. My brain wants me to believe that I still have them forever, but my heart is preparing me for the worst.

After changing his diaper, I sit in the rocker and start to rock him. Macie walks in with a bottle in hand. She takes one look at me and gets a saddened look in her eyes, more like a look of pity. “You’ve gotten attached to him, haven’t you?”
“Yeah.” I am not one of those guys that talk about the emotions fighting against each other deep inside. I prefer to keep to myself. Revealing parts of yourself to others sets you up for gossip and judgment. Coming from a family in the media that was something you didn’t do. Kinzleigh is the only person I’ve ever let in.

“I hope I’m not overstepping any boundaries, because I really like you as a boss and a person, but you know there is only way to fix her, right?” I continue rocking back and forth, staring at the wall before me. I want to know, but at the same time I don’t. I’m not sure I want to know the answer, because I think I already do.
“What’s that?”

“Preston, you can’t fight soul mates. I know you love her, and I really believe she loves you in return, but she’s meant for him. His return has changed the rules of the game. Her soul is fighting her, mourning for its other half. A doctor is going to tell you it’s postpartum depression, but we both know what’s really wrong with her.”
I’m getting mad. Things were going great before he came back. I’m not going to be an asshole and say I wish he would’ve died, because I don’t, but she’s the only girl I’ve ever wanted. That should count for something. “So, you think I should just hand her over to him? What kind of a man hands over the only thing he wants in life. I’ve only ever loved her…”

“I’m saying you should set her free. She made you a promise, and I don’t think she’s going to break it. Her soul is turning against her, rebelling until she gives it what it wants. As silly as it sounds, I really believe someone can die of a broken heart. Would you rather keep her alive and well or allow her to suffer slowly? If you really love her, prove it, and set her free her from the ropes that bind her. Selflessness, that’s the ultimate sacrifice in love.”
I look down at the bundle in my arms. I can’t let them go yet. I need a little more time. She could still get better. She has to get better. I’m trying to convince myself, but it’s not working. Bryce wakes up crying. “Here, give him to me. Talon is watching television in the spare room downstairs. Go tend to her. She needs someone. She looks horrible.”

I stand and hand him to her. I watch her sit in the chair, but I can’t quit looking at him. “Preston…” I glance up at her. “We’ll be fine. I’ve raised one baby. Go on.” I nod and follow instructions, leaving the room. When I get to where Kinzleigh is, she looks worse than she did before. It feels like someone has a hold on my heart and squeezing as hard as they can until it pops.
I get to her and squat down so that I’m at her level. “Kinzleigh,” I whisper. Her eyes are void of all life and emotion. She doesn’t look at me. It’s as if she can’t even hear me.
Fuck it. I can’t take this anymore.

I slide my arms underneath her and lift her, pulling her against my chest. “I’ll do whatever I have to do to fix you, Kinz. I promise.” I walk her upstairs and into our bathroom, sitting her on the toilet. She slumps slightly, but holds herself up.
“Lift your arms,” I state. She does as I say. I remove her shirt and she lowers them back down. I unclasp her bra and remove that too. She is now sitting in just her underwear. I unbutton my shirt and let it fall to the floor. Grabbing the collar of my undershirt, I pull it over my head and toss it down on the other one, forming a pile.
I work quickly to unfasten my belt and pants, letting them drop to the floor as well. Stepping out of my shoes and pants in unison, I kick them to the side. Wrapping my arms around her waist, I pick her up and she wraps her legs around me, and then lays her head against my chest. I walk over to the large round tub and step in. Reaching forward and down, I turn the nozzle and adjust the settings until the water is warm.

I sit down as the bathtub fills with water. My eyes fill with moisture again, but this time I let them fall. My heart is breaking, shattering is a more appropriate word. The only things at the forefront of my mind are the things Macie said. I hold her wrapped in my arms and silently cry.
My heart is trying to convince my mind that it’s wrong, duking it out on what’s best for her. I don’t want to let her go. I want to love her each and every day for the rest of my life. I want to give her the world, and be her world, but after seeing how she reacted to him at the hotel that day and seeing her when she told him goodbye, and looking at her now, my mind is overpowering my heart. It’s clear that what I want and what she wants are two different things.

I could hold onto her if I wanted, but my love for her guilt’s me, and won’t let me do this to her. I feel like I’m being gutted at the realization of what I have to do. I’ll never be the same after this. I’ll never give my heart to another woman. When I do this I’m defying everything I was taught by giving in. I’m sacrificing my happiness for hers. When her and Bryce go, my heart goes with them.
After holding her in the bathtub and trying to convince myself to go back on my decision, I bathed her and gave her some sleeping medicine from the cabinet. I lay her in the bed and pull the covers over her. It doesn’t take her long before her eyes begin to roll in the back of her head and her lids close.

Her cell phone on the nightstand starts to ring. I notice it’s an unsaved number. Trying not to wake her, I answer the call. “Hello.”
The line is silent. “Can I talk to Kinzleigh?”
I look down at her. She is sleeping and looks peaceful for the first time since I got home from work. I’m not waking her. Besides, I’m about to give her over to the bastard anyway; he can let me have a few more hours.
“Now’s not a good time,” I say.
“Are we really going to play it this way?” He breathes and I walk out of the room, quietly shutting the door. I move far enough away she can’t hear me if she wakes.

I need him to stop calling, because what I have to do has to be done in person and I don’t need him to worry Kinzleigh until this is done. “She doesn’t want to see you, Breyson. Please stop calling.” I disconnect the call and throw the phone at the wall, leaving a crack and a now shattered phone.
I run my hands through my hair and rest against the wall, sliding down until I’m sitting on the floor. Leaning my head back I close my eyes.

Meet Charisse Spiers

I developed a passion for reading I never knew I had in November of 2012 when I decided to give eBooks a try. Since then I can’t go a day without some form of a book or character running wild through my mind. For almost a year I constantly had a book pulled up on my Kindle app for my iPad. The beauty of self publishing is that you can interact with the authors, which is how I started writing. I never knew I had the creativity to write a novel until I began conversing with another Indie author. If you ever think that Indie authors don’t like getting feedback from readers, you are very wrong. I began editing for a fellow author and because she took a leap of faith in me and told me to give writing a shot, I am now an Indie author myself. I cannot tell you how amazing this journey has been. It is hard putting yourself out there for the public eye with all of the reviews that come through, but it’s also amazing. I have met some of the most genuine people and people I would consider friends even though I’ve never met them face to face. I have now published the first two books in the Fate series, Accepted Fate and Twisting Fate and I am starting book three Lasting Fate to be released November 2, 2014. I cannot wait to see where this journey takes me and feel free to interact with me here or on social media. I will respond. 🙂

Michel’s Review

Ricochet is my favorite book of the Renegade Series by Skye Jordan. That is saying a lot since I loved the previous books. The Renegades are a company of stunt specialists in Hollywood. Each member has a specific speciality, a unique personality, a huge amount of sex appeal, and embrace their bad boy persona.

In the midst of all of this male testosterone is Rachel Hart. She is the commander, the organizer, the go to girl, the best friend, the little sister, and glue that keeps this company together. Her job title is secretary but she is much more than her job description.

Her latest task is to pick up Troy’s friend that is an explosive specialist at the airport. The Renegades desperately need Ryker’s expertise on a stunt in their current film. She has talked to Ryker on the phone and had a flirty conversation with him but does not know what he looks like. Once she arrives at the airport, late due to a fender bender on the interstate, she cannot find Ryker anywhere. She is beyond annoyed and just wants to end another bad day. She heads to the airport bar to fortify her spirits and shed some of the crappy day. At the bar she meets a smoking hot stranger that fills some of that “fortification” she desperately needs. One hot sexy night with a stranger is the ticket.   And what a night it turns out to be. She has found herself a real sex God. Their chemistry is explosive. Their one night together has blown apart every other sexual encounter she has had. But it’s one night only. She does not have the time or the inclination for a relationship. She has dealt with the mess that relationships bring, come out battered, and has sworn never let it happen again.

Nathan Ryker is on mandatory leave from the military to get his head strait. After sixteen years, most in the warzone, he has demons that haunt him. He has trouble sleeping, has triggers that cause him to revert back to the warzone, and has been broken to pieces. When the opportunity to work with an old buddy arises, it seems like a perfect solution to take a reprieve from his destructive path of drinking and screwing. When he meets the sexy secretary Rachel in the airport bar he can’t help but take the one night she is offering.   He quickly realized that she was the sexy secretary from the Renegades that he had some fun, flirty conversations with. She has no clue that his first name is Nathan and he’s happy to leave it that way. One explosive night with Rachel will turn Nathan Rykers point of detonation into a new direction.

Once the two face each other at work they know that they are off limits to one another. But now that they have had a taste of each , they want and need more.

Rachel and Nathan’s relationship will build from instant lust to a deep rooted friendship to a devoted loving relationship. Their banter is feisty, fun, emotional, and sexy. Their chemistry is off the charts. Their romance is heart warming.

I loved everything about this book. Nathan and Rachel were dynamic characters. Their stories and emotions were very real. The writing, story flow, and pacing were perfect. Jordan Skye has added another fabulous book to the fabulous Renegade series.

Ricochet can be read as a stand alone novel or in series order. I recommend reading the complete series. It will not disappoint!

Skye JordanSometimes fun. Sometimes naughty. Always romantic.

I am a New York Times Bestselling Author writing under the pseudonym Skye Jordan for my more … sexually heated … works.

My Skye Jordan novels are all about enjoying that little wild streak we all have, but probably don’t let out often enough. About those fantasies we usually don’t get the opportunity to indulge. About stretching limits, checking out the dark side, playing naughty and maybe even acting a little wicked. They’re about escape and fun and pleasure and romance.

And, yes, even love. Because even as Skye Jordan I’m just a happily ever after kinda gal.

Thanks for reading!

Synopsis

Stay up all night with the sexy rockers in Stage Dive, the epic New Adult series from New York Times bestselling author Kylie Scott, author of Lick and Play.

As the lead singer of Stage Dive, Jimmy is used to getting whatever he wants, whenever he wants it, whether it’s booze, drugs, or women. However, when a PR disaster serves as a wake-up call about his life and lands him in rehab, he finds himself with Lena, a new assistant to keep him out of trouble.

Lena’s not willing to take any crap from the sexy rocker and is determined to keep their relationship completely professional, despite their sizzling chemistry. But when Jimmy pushes her too far and Lena leaves, he realizes that he may just have lost the best thing that ever happened to him.

Excerpt:

“Lena, you seen my old black Led Zep shirt?”

“Nope.”

“You sure?” His brows became one dark cranky line. The scratches on his face were healing well, thank goodness. Though it didn’t reduce my desire to throttle his mother on a daily basis.

“Yes. I haven’t seen it.”

Can’t find it anywhere…”

“And this is a surprise, how?” I slipped my hands into my back jean’s pockets. “Jimmy, you own more clothing than Cher, Brittney, and Elvis, put together. Things are bound to go missing.”

“Sure you haven’t seen it?”

“For goodness sake, what do you think, Jimmy? That I stole it to sleep in or something?” I laughed bitterly. Sure as hell, the truth deserved a good mocking. I’d sunk so despicably low.

I hadn’t even meant to steal the stupid thing, but the shirt had been mixed up with my laundry a few days ago. It’d been the first top I laid my hand on after stepping out of the shower, ready to go to bed. Without thought, I’d put it on and it’d been so soft, the scent of him lingering beneath the laundry detergent. Every night since, I’d found myself in it come bedtime. My shame knew no limits. And no, I still hadn’t quit. The words still hadn’t come even close to leaving my mouth.

He frowned. “No.”

“That I have some deep secret longing to feel close to you resulting in my stealing your shirt like
some creepy perv?”

“Course I don’t fucking think that,” he replied crankily, reaching up to grip the top of the doorframe. All of his bulging muscles stretched the arms of his white T-shirt in the nicest way. It was all I could do not to start drooling, my heart beat taking up residence somewhere down between my thighs. And who could blame it? Not me. Maybe if I got laid, this would go away and things would return to normal. It’d seemed safer to avoid rubbing up against any men just in case I got carried away and started dating again. This new situation, however, changed everything.

“Well, of course not! That would be crazy.” And wasn’t that the god’s honest truth? Cray-zeee. Lock me up and throw away the key because it wasn’t like I didn’t know better.

“Just can’t figure out where the hell it could be.”

Angels couldn’t have smiled as innocently. They might have tried, but they would have failed, the dirty-mouthed, winged, little liars. “Jimmy, I don’t know where it is. But I’ll look around for it later, okay?”

“Yeah,” he said, and then added as an afterthought, “and stop looking at me weird.”

“I’m not!”

Michel’s Review

OMG…. Kylie Scott has another bestseller!   Lead rocked the house down!

Lead is book three in the Stage Dive series and features lead singer Jimmy Farris. He is the egotisical front man for Stage Dive. He adds a new meaning to the phrases “self absorbed”, “self entitled”, “rude”, and “dickhead”. He is a recovering addict in need of a sobriety companion 24/7. Due to his insufferable personality he has run off every single companion the band has hired. They are at wits end until they accidentally meet Lena Morrissey in their manager’s office.

Mal gave me a finger wave. “Lena Morrissey, huh?”

     “Yes.”

     “I like you. You’re funny.”

     “Thanks,” I replied drily.

“So you do admin-type shit here?”

     “I did. Yes.”

He gave me an easy smile. “You don’t seem very impressed by me, Lena. Am I not impressive to you?”

“Sure you are. I guess I’m just busy getting fired right now to fully appreciated the magnitude of the moment.” Hands on hip, I looked him in the eye. He was cute and I bet his smile worked on lots and lots of women. But it wouldn’t work on me. “Rest assured, later I’m going to freak out.”

He leaned against the doorframe. “I’ve got your word on that?”

    “Absolutely.”

    “I’m trusting you here.”

“And I appreciate that, Mr. Ericson. I won’t let you down.”

“I really think you could be the one, Lena,” the drummer said, pulling me from my thoughts.

    I blinked. “That so?”

“Oh yeah. Big time. But you’re not for me.”

    “No?”

“Sadly not.” He shook his head.

    “Damn.”

“Yeah, I know. You’re really missing out.” He sighed, slipping his hair behind his ears. Then he looked over his shoulder. “Gentlemen, that problem we were talking about earlier. I believe I may have found a solution.”

David Farris looked from Mal to me and back again; his forehead creasing. “You’re serious?”

“He isn’t easy to live with. Think she can handle it?”

“Yeah, I do,” said Mal, bouncing on the balls of his feet all excited like. He put up his dukes, as if for fighting. “Show me what you got, Lena. Knock me out. Come on champ. You can do it. Put me against the ropes?”

     “Mal’s right, she’s different.”

Finally, at long last, Jimmy sighed and looked up at me.

And the man might be pretty, but he sure as hell wasn’t nice. I’d met enough not-nice men to know. Trust me to find him attractive.

So I frowned straight back at him.

His glare went up a notch.

     I matched it.

“Why, you two are getting along like a house on fire already! It’s like you’ve known each other for years. I think she’ll make a wonderful live in assistant,” said Mal. “Tell him, Lena.”

“A live in assistant?” I parroted, clueless.

“Since when did I need an assistant?” Jimmy looked me over from top to toe, lips tight with obvious disapproval.

“Since you can’t seem to keep a sobriety companion.” His brother returned calmly, a little coldly even.

And thus begins the story of Jimmy Farris, singer extraordinaire being put in his place and brought into the world of the mere human race.

An epic reading adventure you don’t want to miss.

Jimmy Farris has left a foul impression on the readers throughout this series. It is very hard to like him. It is hard to understand his motivations and actions toward his band brothers. As we all know, don’t judge a book by the cover. Don’t judge, accept.

Lena Morrissey with her quick wit, smart mouth, perceptive mind, and dedicated manner is exactly what Jimmy needs. She accepts his grouchy nature and likes him anyway. When he crosses the line, she puts him in his place. When he needs someone to support him, she has his back no matter what. She sees beyond the outer wrappings Jimmy presents to the world. She sees a man that has been deeply hurt. She sees a man that has lost his sense of self worth. She sees a man that doesn’t know how to reach out to others. She sees a man that doesn’t think he deserves to be loved. As his sobriety companion it is her job to keep him on the straight and narrow. To help him build an iron clad control against the drugs. To direct his self destructive nature in another direction. But is it her job to love him? Will she be able to survive an unrequited love?

“The man was such a show pony, one that I just so happened to be hormonally susceptible to. Blame it all on my girl bits, sure why not?”

“He always seemed so polished, so perfect, you could almost ignore the chaos and pain living inside of him.”

“His smile, oh god his smile, I wanted to wipe it off his face with a pickaxe. I’d be gentle, you could trust me.”

“I’d been in love before, sure. The difference here was, I loved him, all of him, and there’d be no easy getting over it this time. Every part of me wanted him, I yearned for him on the cellular level. There could be no escaping emotions of this magnitude. His good and bad, dark and light, his nice parts and his nasty. Everything he was, I loved, and it left me utterly helpless.”

Jimmy is counting on Lena. She is the only one he can tolerate intruding in his life. He doesn’t want her love. He just needs her to be there and have his back. He will help her get over her crush on him so that she will not quit. He will have her back when she needs it the most. Because after all he is a selfish man, he needs her and that is all there is to it.

“Don’t hate me Lena,” he whispered. “You want to be mad at me when I do dumb things, that’s fine. But don’t ever hate me. I couldn’t take that, not from you.”

Lead is one of this books that is a turbulent ride, a rollercoaster of emotional highs and lows. It is fun, feisty, witty, sensual, panty dropping sexy, and emotional. The dialogue and banter between Jimmy and Lena is phenomenal.

Kylie Scott is a brilliant writer. She has the reader captivated in the very first line of the book. We are glued to the pages until the very end. She managed to take a very flawed unlikable character and make us fall head over heels in love with him. She gives us strong women that we can admire and respect. She gives the the reader a fun and entertaining book that titillates every emotion.

Lead is a six star book. The Stage Dive series is by far one of the best written series published and has deserved all six star reviews.

Michel’s Review

3.5 Stars

His Reverie by Monica Murphy is different from her previous series. I am not sure if it falls under the YA genre or mature YA genre.

His Reverie is a sweet romance between two young people. One is still in high school and the other is barely out of high school. The romance between these two is sweet and does not have the erotic edge that previous books have had. But this is a very good thing and very appropriate for this kind of book. The book focuses more on the characters as young people trying to find their way in the world of which they were born. It is somewhat a Romeo and Juliet story with the forbidden love factor.

Reverie is from the perfect world. She has been the perfect daughter, the perfect sister, and the perfect friend. She is a princess in her world. Her father is a well known evangelist with a national cable show and huge ministry. Her life has been influenced by her father’s calling. But like any normal teenager she wants to experience young love, dating, hanging out with friends, and fun.

When she meets Nick, a young man from the wrong side of the tracks, her heart yearns for him.

Nick has had a very rough go of it in his young life. He spent eleven months in jail for a crime he did not commit. He lost his mother to cancer shortly after he was released. He has been forced to grow up and become a man too early. He is struggling to survive in the adult world. When he gets a summer job working at Reverend Hales’s estate. When he meets Reverie Hale his life is turn upside down. She is the purest, nicest, and most beautiful person he has ever been around.

Nick and Reverie are drawn to one another. They begin a secret relationship that leads into love. But both of their worlds collide. Nick has been keeping his former life a secret, a past girlfriend is threatening to expose their relationship, and Reverie’s family is starting to fall apart.

When someone is murdered, Nick once again is blamed. He is willing to take the blame to protect his Reverie.

His Reverie ends on a cliffhanger. Readers will find out all the answers on August 25, 2014 when His Destiny releases. I am looking forward to seeing what happens next.

I liked the characters and the nature of this story. There were a few things that kind of were hard to swallow but I had to remember this is a fictional story and that the book is geared more towards the younger adult audience. They are not sticklers for details and are more into the fantasy of the perfect romance. They like the aspect of forbidden love, characters with a truckful of angst, and finding true love. I think they will love this book. Monica Murphy captured the teenage spirit and young love.
