Temporary

By Sarina Bowen and Sarah Mayberry

Buy: Amazon / B & N / IBooks / Kobo

Synopsis

The most beautiful man I’ve ever seen is the same one who can ruin everything.

The first time I lay eyes on Callan Walker, I know he’ll be trouble. With his smug grin, hot Aussie accent and thousand dollar shoes, he’s just the kind of rich guy who always gets what he wants.

And he wants two things: a night of sin, and my cooperation as he outmaneuvers his powerful mother to take control of his uncle’s estate.

I can’t afford either one. I’m the only thing standing between my little sister and the foster care system. He may have money and charm on his side, but I have something even more powerful — pure desperation. This temp job at his mother’s company can become a full time job for me. It has to.

But when Callan’s eyes rake over my body, sometimes I forget my obligations. His piercing gaze finds the fun, optimistic girl I used to be and not the tired person I’ve become.

And it works–if only for a moment. Our night together was a mistake. I can’t afford to get sucked into his high-powered family’s treachery. But the closer I get to Callan, the more layers I find beneath those expensive clothes. Though I can’t forget this is temporary. He’s temporary. I have too much to lose.

Too bad my foolish heart didn’t get the memo…

Michel’s Review

It always amazes me when two authors team up to write a book.  It can either be a disaster with two very different voices or it can be a flawless, entertaining story that makes it impossible to figure out which author wrote what.  Temporary by Sarina Bowen and Sarah Mayberry delivered a flawless, swoon worthy romance. Their first collaboration is a must read.

Grace has been working for a temp agency hoping to land a permanent job.  She needs to find a permanent job with a steady income.  Living in New York City is hard enough as a young woman but add the responsibility of raising a younger sister and it becomes even harder.  When a great temp job comes up that offers the possibilities of a permanent job, Grace jumps at the opportunity.  She just needs a chance to prove herself and show her outstanding work ethics.

Grace lands a temporary job at Walker Holdings.  The CEO of Walker Holdings has assigned her to audit the estate of her late brother Jack.  When Grace arrives at the estate she meets Callan Walker, Jack’s nephew.  Callan is a distraction with a sexy Australian accent that she doesn’t need while doing her job.  The more she’s around him the more resistible he is.

Their time together turns into more than a distraction.  Their chemistry is intense but can it withstand their real everyday lives.  Callan’s family interference and Grace’s need for a permanent job may make this once in a lifetime love a temporary romance.

Sarina and Sarah did a stellar job and I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

Sarah Mayberry was born in Melbourne, Australia, and is the middle of three children. From the time that she first “stole” paper from kindergarten and stapled it together to make “books,” Sarah has always wanted to be a writer. In line with this ambition, on graduation from high school she completed a bachelor of arts degree majoring in professional writing, then sat down to write a book. When inspiration didn’t strike, she began to wonder if, perhaps, she needed to live some life first before writing about it.

This still left the burning question of how to pay the rent. She found her way into trade journalism, working off the principle that it was better to write anything for a living than nothing at all. Her time there lead to the opportunity to launch a new decorator magazine for one of Australia’s major retailers, an invaluable and grueling experience that she found very rewarding.

But the opportunity to write fiction for a living soon lured Sarah away. She took up a post as storyliner on Australia’s longest running soap, Neighbours. Over two years she helped plot more than 240 hours of television, as well as writing freelance scripts. She remembers her time with the show very fondly — especially the dirty jokes and laughter around the story table — and still writes scripts on a freelance basis.

In 2003 she relocated to New Zealand for her partner’s work. There Sarah served as storyliner and story editor on the country’s top-rating drama, Shortland Street, before quitting to pursue writing full time.

Sarah picked up a love of romance novels from both her grandmothers, and has submitted manuscripts to Harlequin many times over the years. She credits the invaluable story structuring experience she learned on Neighbours as the key to her eventual success — along with the patience of her fantastic editor, Wanda.

Sarah is revoltingly happy with her partner of twelve years, Chris, who is a talented scriptwriter. Not only does he offer fantastic advice and solutions to writing problems, but he’s also handsome, funny and sexy. When she’s not gushing over him, she loves to read romance and fantasy novels, go to the movies, sew and cook for her friends. She has also become a recent convert to Pilates, which she knows she should do more often.

New Release + 5 Star Review: Autoboyography by Christina Lauren

Autoboyography

A Mature YA LGBT Romance

By Christina Lauren

Buy: Amazon

Synopsis

Fangirl meets Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda in this funny and poignant coming-of-age novel from New York Times bestselling author Christina Lauren about two boys who fall in love in a writing class—one from a progressive family and the other from a conservative religious community.

Three years ago, Tanner Scott’s family relocated from California to Utah, a move that nudged the bisexual teen temporarily back into the closet. Now, with one semester of high school to go, and no obstacles between him and out-of-state college freedom, Tanner plans to coast through his remaining classes and clear out of Utah.

But when his best friend Autumn dares him to take Provo High’s prestigious Seminar—where honor roll students diligently toil to draft a book in a semester—Tanner can’t resist going against his better judgment and having a go, if only to prove to Autumn how silly the whole thing is. Writing a book in four months sounds simple. Four months is an eternity.

It turns out, Tanner is only partly right: four months is a long time. After all, it takes only one second for him to notice Sebastian Brother, the Mormon prodigy who sold his own Seminar novel the year before and who now mentors the class. And it takes less than a month for Tanner to fall completely in love with him.

Michel’s Review

LGBT romance is not usually by cup of tea but the synopsis as well as the author captured my attention. I am a big fan of YA romance and am the mother of two teenagers. I felt like I had an understanding of the maturity level as well as thought process in the teenage world.  What I didn’t know much about was the religious aspect of this book.

This book was an eye opener because it gave me a better understanding of what many gay young people deal with on a daily basis within their families, among their peers, and society as a whole.  Geographical locations do make a difference in how society accepts the gay community.  In this case it was in Utah where the Mormon religion dominates the area.  The Mormon religion is more than a religious practice, it has a strict moral code in which the practitioners follow in every aspect of life.

This book became more than two teenage boys struggling to find their place in life as gay men, it was a case of religion verses sexuality, family relationships verses religion.

Christina Lauren did an impeccable job delivering a honest portrayal of all these issues.  They created an honest insight without delving into too much religion or too much gay rights issues.  They created two dynamic interesting young men finding love in a very difficult time of their lives with very difficult life circumstances.  They were sensitive with such matters and made the boys the most important part of this book.

I commend them for writing this book!

Michel’s Review
Delirious by M.S. Force is the sixth book in the Quantum series.  Although many would say it could be read as a stand alone novel, I think the entire series should be read first because it gives the reader a better understanding and background the Quantum family dynamics, The Quantum club, and part of the Aileen’s journey to present day.
***
Aileen is a breast cancer survivor.  She has spent the past year fighting for her life while trying to stay strong for her two children.  When she came to L.A. it was more than starting over, it was bringing her closer to the support system she needed in her family’s life.
***
Aileen met Kristian at Natalie and Flynn’s wedding.  Although they hit it off neither of them were in the right head space to begin anything.  With Aileen moving to L.A. it brings her closer to Kristian.  Kristian has more secrets than his lifestyle at the Quantum club, his past has left demons that can’t be exorcised.  He has to confront those demons if he wants any kind of fulfilling relationship with Aileen.
***
Aileen has spent the last year with her life out of her control.  Coming to L.A. is more than a new start, it’s taking the control back in her life.  That includes choosing a relationship with Kristian and accepting his lifestyle and haunted past.
***
M.S. Force delivered more than the typical BDSM type romance.  She created two dynamic characters who both have lived through horrific events in life and learned how to survive.  She allowed them to reach for a better future with hope, peace, and love.
I think this is my favorite book in the series.

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000039_00005]It was supposed to be fun.

A mutual use of each other’s bodies.

To be a ruse to the world around us.

I wanted to be free from my ex, and he wanted to escape his.

One drunken night turned a joke into a life-changing moment.

He warned me not to fall for him, and I should’ve listened.

He intoxicated me.

He made me crave him.

He ruined me.

In the end, I’ll never be the same.

Michel’s Review

Hope Town just got a little bit hotter with the latest release, Drunk On You by Harper Sloan.

Shane and Nikki have more in common than mutual friends.  They are both dealing with stalking exes that have made their lives miserable.  After dealing with the bad relationships, they are both dealing with moving on because their exes just don’t want to let go of their lives.  The one thing they both want back is control over their lives and relationships.

Nikki is a sweet soul dedicated to her teaching career.  Her ex cheated on her while they were in a four year relationship.  She always put him first and herself second.  After a year apart he has decided he wants her back and won’t take no for answer.  She’s decided to take control of her life and next relationship.  She won’t allow another man to walk all over her nor will she accept mediocre.  She wants it all and wants it on her terms.  In the meantime she is going to put herself back out there and enjoy life.  That moment begins in the Dirty Dog when Shane gives her an unforgettable dirty dance.

Shane is dealing with his own troublesome ex who is persistent.  He felt he lost control of his life when he was in a relationship with her.  Her emotions and demands drained him dry.  He’s ready for something more but it is going to be on his terms.  He will dictate the when, the where’s, and the how’s.  When he sees Nikki at the bar, he’s ready to put his plan into action.

What starts out as a night of fun with promised pleasure quickly turns into something sizzling.  The only thing getting burned this time around is the sheets!

Drunk On You is the best book in the Hope Town series to date.  This book had a bit of a light BDSM theme that was romantic and charming at the same time.  I fell hopelessly in love with Shane and admired the person Nikki was.

They both deserved this happily ever after.  I can’t wait to see who falls next in The Hope Town series.  Great job Harper Sloan!

New York Times bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken kicks off a brand-new series in which romance is a game and love is a touchdown.

Emerson just made her dream come true as a professional cheerleader for her favorite pro football team. But even though the plus-size athlete is breaking down boundaries, she still has to contend with the massive rulebook. Carbs? Nope. Chocolate? Definitely not. Still, Emerson loves her curves, and she’ll rock the hell out of this job even if it kills her. Except for one mandate that is easier read than done…

No fraternizing with the players.

Thrown back together, Miller and Emerson feel the undeniable pull of passion again, even if the conflict that tore them apart seems insurmountable. Then there’s way-too-sexy Grant Sanchez. Michel’s Review

Holy Smokes!  Rachel Van Dyken has a new series, The Players, that is going to change the game.  Fraternize is the first book in The Players series and it is a solid five star book that will leave readers wanting MORE!  Yes it ended on a cliffhanger and I’m dying for the next book but I must say what takes place in this book is unlike anything Rachel has written.  A love triangle that keeps the readers hearts ricochetting from one moment to the next.  The ride is exciting, unpredictable, and emotional.

Emerson Ryder has achieved her dream, she has become an NFL cheerleader.  She is not the typical cheerleader with the perfect body.  She has curves and embraces her body shape wholeheartedly.  The demands of professional cheerleading go beyond practices and games, there are rules and they are written in a manuel.  From the dietary restrictions, surprise weigh ins, behavior modifications, the manuel rules her life.  One of the biggest and most serious rules is no fraternizing with the football players.  Emerson can accept and abide by these rules except the fraternizing one.  A guy from her past is a player on the Bellevue Bucks and they have a steamy and stormy history.  It also doesn’t help that there is another player that has staked his claim and set his sights on her.

Miller Quinton was her childhood best friend and first love.  Their relationship took a dramatic turn when circumstances beyond their control changed the direction of both of their lives.  Their communications were broken without explanation.  They both blame one another but neither knows the truth about what happened.  Assumptions led to heartbreak and hard feelings.  Now they are once again in each other’s lives.  Do they leave the past alone or do they start a new chapter in their story? Miller was Emerson’s greatest love and greatest heartbreak.  She loved him with her entire heart and still has feelings for him.  Should she let him become a part of her life or leave the past alone or does she move on to what’s being offered in her present life?

Grant Sanchez is the captain of the team and has set his sights on Emerson.  Grant is drop dead gorgeous, charming, and a notorious player.  He’s in full pursuit of Emerson, wearing her down one charming smile at a time.  Beneath the charming surface lies a man who is thoughtful, kind hearted, respectful, and considerate.  Emerson is falling and the only thing holding her back is Miller.

Emerson has a dilemma, does she embrace a new future or repair the broken past and embrace a new chapter?  The choices are impossible because each man is equally deserving of her love.

Let me tell you, I fell hard for both men.  I thought I had my heart set on one man until I hit the next chapter and then my heart was beating for the other man.  I still can’t choose and am anxious to see what comes next.

I’m not a fan of love triangles but can honestly say Rachel Van Dyken knocked it out of the stadium with Fraternize and I’m waiting to see which man wins the championship!

Excerpt:

Sawyer

My throat tightened and a heaviness grew in my chest like my heart didn’t know whether to beat faster or stop beating altogether. “Did you leave me all this to show me the life you could’ve had, but didn’t? Why!?” I pounded the wheel again and then again, and again and again until my vision was blurry and all I could see was the redness of my own heated rage. “You’re a fucking coward! You fucking COWARD!” I screamed to no one, pounding on the wheel until the skin across my knuckles split and blood dripped between my fingers.

Strong hands bit into my biceps, yanking me from the cab. I was spun around by my shoulders and found myself face to face with Finn. “I like it when you swear,” he said, pressing close.

“Finn, get off me! Get off me! Let me go!” I wailed, struggling to free myself from his grip. Kicking out my legs only to connect with the air as he evaded my every move.

A growl tore from his throat. Finn picked me up and walked me to the back of the truck, setting me on the open tailgate. He pushed himself between my legs and hovered over me to keep me from leaping off.

“Let me go,” I demanded, pushing at his hard chest. “I don’t have time for your broodiness right now.”

Finn held my wrists together with one hand. “No, of course you don’t. You’re too busy tearing up pictures and screaming at no one.”

“Let me go,” I repeated.

“No,” he said between clenched teeth.

“Just go! Leave me alone. Leave meeeeeee!” I wailed as I pounded against his stone chest.

“You don’t want to hit me,” he warned, his eyes hardened.

“Then let me go.”

“Why?” He stepped in closer, unaffected by my attempt to fight against him. My inner thighs were touching his outer thighs.

“Because she did!” I screamed, my eyes sprang open to find his cold blue gaze. “She could have run anywhere and taken me with her. Instead she left him but she left me too. She was a coward who couldn’t make the right decision and I love her. I love her…but I hate her. I hate her so much…so…” I was interrupted when Finn’s lips pressed against mine, momentarily rendering me stupid. I pointed my toes toward the sky to avoid my initial instinct which was to wrap my legs around him. It was so consuming that I momentarily forgot to fight him off, but I didn’t need to, he pulled his lips from mine.

“Stop doing that,” I said. I pushed him off but he stayed between my legs, his hands on my bare back just under the hem of his big t-shirt I was wearing. His gaze hardened. I could see the conflict written in his lined forehead and the deep V between his eyes. I had no doubt the conflict had everything to do with me.

And kissing me.

“It’s your fault that I do it,” Finn said, his voice deep and smooth against my chin and then my neck.

“So that’s your plan? Kiss me every time you want to shut me up?” I asked, still feeling every bit of my anger but also feeling something else. Something that sent tingles between my legs and an ache in my core. “Thank you for saving me. Really. Thank you. I appreciate it,” my voice cracked. “But you can just leave me alone now. And please, STOP kissing me.” My words a whisper.

“I’m going to kiss you whenever I want to kiss you,” Finn stated as if I didn’t have a say in the matter.

The early morning sunlight highlighted the beads of sweat trickling from his shoulders down his broad chest and across the valleys of his defined abs. He was standing so close that we were breathing in each other’s air.

“Whenever you want to kiss me?” I laughed. “I don’t understand you. I don’t understand any of this. You’re always mad at me. Why did you save me? Why do you keep kissing me when you’re always mad at me?”

“It’s when I’m pissed off at you that I want to kiss you the most,” Finn said, his voice flowing over my skin like a silky blanket. He slid me closer so I could feel the outline of his rigid erection as if he were proving a point. He lowered his lips to mine and consumed my mouth in a greedy kiss that had me shaking with need and spinning with confusion.

“Do you always kiss everyone you hate?” I asked, yanking my lips from his.

“Does this feel like hate to you?” he growled pushing his hard length between my legs.

Michel’s Review

It’s a crazy coincidence that The Outskirts by T.M. Frazier released the same day Hurricane Irma decided to unleash her fury on Florida.  The southerly part of Florida experienced the fury of mother nature while readers were introduced to small town Floridian life near the swamps of the Everglades and Naples.  When most people think of Florida they quickly envision the coastal beaches, high energy cities, and theme park magic but beyond those perceptions are tight knit small town communities that thrive on fishing and the enterprise it’s vast environment provides.  These small towns don’t depend on tourism and the other venues of business to survive.  They depend on one another and their community as a whole.  Many towns like the Outskirts were destroyed by the wrath of mother nature but T.M. Frazier captured their spirit and clearly showed their true grit and strength of survival long after the storm winds have diminished.  Readers will be charmed with the dynamic people that give the Outskirts life.

Sawyer Dixon escaped her life in North Carolina after the death of her mother.  Her mother left her a deed for a piece of land in the swamps of Outskirt, Florida.  It was all the permission Sawyer needed to escape her abusive father and the church that ruled her life. It didn’t matter that she had never stepped outside her religious community nor did it matter that she didn’t know a living soul in her new home.  It was freedom.

Coming to the Outskirts was an eye opener.  For one thing, the town is almost a ghost town.  The job opportunities are void.  Her new neighbor is hostile.  The town sheriff is determined to help her in anyway possible.  The only bar/restaurant is willing to hire her without any experience.  No one seems to know who her mother was but it is clear that her mother was very much a part of this community years ago.  Sawyer sees every aspect of the Outskirts as an opportunity in her new life.

Finn Hollis, an Outskirts notorious citizen, has lost himself after experiencing a life changing tragedy.  He retreated to the swamps and withdrew from the living until Sawyer Dixon showed up in his swamp.  Suddenly he’s discovering that life goes on and he may want to jump back in.  Sawyer’s determination, innocence, and tenacity awakens his desire and need to protect.  She has earned his respect and is quickly winning his heart.

They are both beginning new lives in the Outskirts but trouble is rolling in.  Cliffhanger.

T.M. Frazier captured the spirit of small town life in Florida as well as delivering a sensual, heartwarming romance that is loaded with intrigue and suspense.  I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Release Day Blitz + 4.5-Star Review: Lust by Emma Hart

LUST2New York Times bestselling author, Emma Hart, brings together two polar-opposite single parents in the second book in the sinfully sexy Vegas Nights series.

Detective Adrian Potter had a lot to answer for. I didn’t care that he was tasked with shutting down the city’s most prolific hookers.

I cared that he was stopping me from providing for my daughter.

He didn’t care.
Not at all.
Until I broke down in the backseat of his car… And he let me go.

Adrian was a single parent, too. He knew how hard I had it. At least, he thought he did.
He had a job. He had people who cared. He didn’t know just how lucky he was.

My name is Perrie Fox.
I was a whore of the highest value.

Until Detective Adrian Potter.

Until the tattooed, redemption-seeking detective entered my life, looking for his fairytale.

The cop and the hooker.

Happily ever fucking never.

You’ve met one Fox sibling.
Now meet the other…

(LUST is book two of the Vegas Nights series. While it is a standalone, the time frame does overlap with scenes in the previous book, SIN. You can, however, read LUST without reading SIN.)

Tracey’s Review

So, a hooker and a cop. Seen it, you say. But, no, I say, you haven’t seen it like this, like Emma Hart’s written them in LUST, the second book in her Vegas Nights series. Trust me when I say that neither Perrie Fox nor Adrian Potter are like the others that you’ve seen. Emma has written a couple of characters with plenty of heart, lots of sass, and enough chemistry between them to power, well, Las Vegas.

Emma’s characters never fail to grab me, heart and soul, and Perrie and Adrian are some of my favorites to date. These two are all sizzle and pop from their first meeting. Polar opposites, or so it would seem, it doesn’t take too long to figure out that they’re more alike than they’d like to admit, and just what each other needs.

And those kids, though. It only seems fitting that someone as sassy and snarky and take-no-nonsense as Perrie would have a mini-me that can almost, almost out-attitude her. Lola had me laughing out loud in pretty much every scene she was in. And, Zac, Adrian’s son, is the perfect match for Lola, and the constant reminder of what a great father Adrian is. Even with all of their demons, Perrie and Adrian have done a great job as parents, and the love between them and their kids is evident.

You can’t help but fall for the characters in Emma’s books, because, beneath the story, they’re doing the best that they can, just like the rest of us. Physical attraction aside, Perrie and Adrian are parents, children, people working to get a job done, and, at the end of the day, just people. Dealing with the seamier side of life has left them both somewhat jaded and untrusting, and seeing those layers peel away the longer that they spend time together made for one of Emma’s best stories yet.

LUST is 4.5-stars worth of snark, spark, and heart-mending, and I absolutely adored it. Although it’s part of a series, it can be read as a standalone (although, why, why, why, would you want to miss the first book? Get reading!). It needs to be on your TBR, and fast. You’ll be in love before you know it.

Naturally, all Top Secret projects involve a dashingly hot guy who likes to forget to wear a shirt, a sprinkling (or several) of hold-onto-your-panties hot scenes, and a whole lotta love.

She likes to be busy—unless busy involves doing the dishes, but that seems to be when all the ideas come to life.

Blurb:

I’ve discovered Donovan Kincaid’s secret.

It’s dirty and filthy and rich – as dirty and filthy and rich as he is – and it haunts me as much as he ever did.

Even after knowing what I know now, I still want to talk to him, to touch him. But there’s an ocean between us, and I’m not sure it can be crossed with something as easy as a phone call or a plane ride.

Yet I’m willing to try.

He doesn’t know this yet, but this time I’m the one with the power. And maybe – just maybe – if the air were cleared and all our secrets bared, there could still be a chance for us.

And this dirty, filthy thing between us might end up being love after all.

Excerpt:

He took another step toward me, and I started to step back, but there was a counter behind me, so I had to stay put. And maybe I wanted to stay put. He was only a foot and a half away from me now.

“But I haven’t lied to you, Sabrina.” His gaze never left mine. “And I’m not lying when I say I don’t give a fuck about anybody else’s cunt but yours.”

We stood there, not touching, not speaking, each of us standing our ground. But I had no basis to keep my position, and it felt like he’d won so much already.

I couldn’t back down.

“Prove it,” I said.

His expression flared, his eyes growing dark and mean, and I realized what I’d done. Donovan wasn’t one to be provoked.

I’d just invited the devil out to play.

“Unzip your skirt and put your hands on the counter behind you.”

My heart hammered and my belly twisted. My panties were embarrassingly drenched all of a sudden, and I wanted him. But I stood completely still. “I didn’t—”

He cut me off. “No talking and unzip your skirt.”

My mouth slammed shut, but I still didn’t move. If I moved, I’d be asking for this. But if I talked, I’d be telling him to stop.

And I didn’t want this to stop.

I just didn’t want to ask for it because I was stubborn and stupid for wanting him in the first place.

But he would give it to me without the words, without my obedience. Because he knew me. He knew what I needed.

With his eyes never leaving mine, he found the zipper at the side of my waist and pulled it down. After that, the skirt was loose enough that all he had to do was tug it once and it fell easily to my feet. He nudged his knee against my inner leg, and automatically I stepped that foot out of the pool of material on the floor, widening my stance.

He gave a nod of praise, sending a jolt of warmth through my entire body.

Then he bent down in front of me.

Suddenly, breathing was harder than it should have been. My chest moved up and down, air passed through my mouth, but I couldn’t get enough of it to my lungs.

And he hadn’t even touched me yet.

The sight of him alone—Donovan Kincaid, one of the most powerful men in the world, down on his knees in his black Ermenegildo Zegna suit—it was overwhelming and erotic, and by the time he put his hand at the back of my knee, I was already trembling.

Tracey’s Review

We wrapped ourselves in this chrysalis, this love we’d found that would change us both. This filthy love that had reminded me what it felt like to be cared for. This rich love that taught Donovan for the first time in his life what it could feel like to belong to someone.

This book, y’all. Listen, I’ve read Laurelin Paige, and I know, I know, that any book that she delivers will suck me in and hold me captive until the very last page, and she absolutely nailed it with this darkly intense and erotic read.

I was already hooked on the story, invested in the relationship between Donovan Kincaid and Sabrina Lind. These two have been bound to each other for years, entrenched in ways that don’t become clear until the whole story unfolds in this book. They’re both complicated, Donovan and Sabrina, carrying baggage with a capital ‘B.’ This is, though, what makes them able to understand each other, and, really, perfect for each other.

Donovan, with all of his dark secrets and alpha attitude, is not the typical Prince Charming, but Sabrina’s not the type to want that, anyway. She has very particular needs, and, for better or worse, he gets her completely. Their relationship is anything but conventional, but it mostly works for them, and, when it doesn’t, well, those are the moments that allow them to grow into the people, the couple, that they’re striving to be, to smooth the rough edges and move to the next level.

DIRTY FILTHY RICH LOVE is the perfect wrap-up to the story that began in DIRTY FILTHY RICH BOYS. Laurelin, as usual, has written a flawlessly and well-crafted story, with a plot that immediately and continuously engaged me, and characters that are written with plenty of humanity, with all of the flaws and imperfections that that entails. This book, and the others in the series, are everything that I’ve come to expect from Laurelin, and rates an easy, if sometimes uncomfortable, five stars. This is a series that fans of Laurelin or of the darker, angstier reads should absolutely add to their TBRs.

New Release + Excerpt + Review: Gray Matter by Becky McGraw

Gray Matter: Deep Six Security, Book 5 by Becky McGraw

Date of Publication: August 28, 2022

Blurb

Can Gray help his new office manager clean her dirty laundry? Or will the mafia princess hang him out to dry?

Since leaving the FBI Grayson Jennings has found peace in his life with his job as a forensic accountant with Deep Six Security and he treasures it. It remains that way until Michaela Girabaldi is hired as the new office manager for their east coast office.

The smart-mouthed Jersey girl strolls into the office in red high heels with her bags packed with enough dirty laundry to last them both a lifetime. In Prison. Her dirtiest laundry is the 1.2 million dollars she insists she didn’t steal from the mob and Gray is wrangled into helping her find it.

Well, this was not Gray’s first rodeo with a beautiful criminal and he had the bruises to prove it. He was not going to blindly trust a woman ever again, especially one suspected of murder and many other nasty crimes. He would help her, but he wouldn’t be getting into bed with the mafia princess or falling for her or her games.

Mickie says only her cousin knows where the loot is located, so Gray sets out to find her. To do that, he’ll have to follow the money, but he is afraid at the end of that trail he’ll find a lot more than he bargained for.

But will he find the money before the mob finds Mickie? Or will she distract him with her Nonna’s Magic Massage Oil and cannolis at the beach house where they’re hiding out and get them both killed?

Excerpt:

Gray stepped off the curb, but hopped back when a long, black limo with blacked out windows almost hit him.  The brake lights flickered as the driver slowed even more.

When the car finally passed him, he stepped off the curb and walked across the street.  He just couldn’t bear watching her walk inside that building.  Gray would find a place for her to stay tonight, and he’d make damned sure she had a place when she came back to town after her training.

“Michaela…” he said, dropping his hand on her shoulder.

She gasped and her body tensed.  Gray’s only warning was a clanking whoosh and a quick black flash before her handbag connected with the side of his head.  A gong-like sound echoed in his skull as he staggered back with stars dancing in his line of vision.

He slumped against the brick wall, holding his throbbing jaw as he ran his tongue over his teeth to make sure they were all still in place.

“Oh, God—I’m so sorry!” she screeched as she walked up to him.  “You scared me.”  Her look of horror turned to anger when their eyes met.  “But it’s your own fault for following me. Why are you following me?”

Gray wished he had an answer to that question himself.  “Why are you staying at a homeless shelter?” he shot back, rubbing his aching jaw.

“I’m not, I’m, ah—visiting a friend,” she replied, her cheeks flushing.

“The same friends you’re staying with?” he volleyed, knowing a lie when he heard one.

“What business is it of yours?” she demanded, putting her hand on her hip.

“It’s my business because I need to make sure you’re a good fit for our office.  Right now, considering your penchant for lying and assault, I’d say I have reason to be concerned.”

Her face fell, and her hazel eyes filled with angry tears.  “If having you in my business is a requirement of the job, then I don’t want it,” she replied, lifting her chin.

“But you need it,” he countered, pushing off of the dirty brick wall to take her arm.  He nodded his chin toward the shelter.  “Come back to the hotel with me and I’ll get you a room.  Is there anything you need to get from inside?”

Tracey’s Review

Oh, those Deep Six Security guys, you just have to love them. These are some bad*ss guys, and they get into more hot water than they can handle sometimes. Take Grayson Jennings, for example. He’s just trying to do his job, setting up the next office for the Deep Six folks, when he is blindsided by a very small, very feisty, very Italian whirlwind with plenty to hide.

Michaela ‘Mickie’ Girabaldi has definitely found herself in the wrong place at the wrong time. On the run from some very bad men, Mickie’s just looking for a way to stay alive. When her search brings her to the offices of Deep Six Security, and a second meeting with Gray Jennings, she’s less than thrilled.

I love this series, and Becky McGraw might have just written my favorite of them yet with GRAY MATTER. While there is plenty of the usual suspense, I found myself laughing out loud at the banter between Gray and Mickie. Clearly, neither one was ready for what they’d gotten themselves into, and there is plenty of humor, as well as scenes so steamy that a fan and a cool drink are nice to have on hand.

Having all of the usual suspects on hand to keep things jumping was a pleasure, and meeting Mickie’s brother, Dante, seems like a great lead-in for another book that Becky needs to give us. All in all, GRAY MATTER is 4 action-packed, sexy, laugh until you cry stars, and a definite must-read for fans of the Deep Six books.

People say not to believe the things you read
in magazines, but you know what? Most things you’ve heard about me are probably
true.
I totally banged the reporter in the locker
room after the championship game last year.
Those pictures in Expose from last summer?
Those were not modified.
I’m also not really six-foot tall. (But let’s
keep that between us.)
Now, I know you’re wondering about that last
Expose headline—the one about me and my teammate (and ex-best friend) Finn
Miller’s sister, Layla James. That one is a little more complicated.
Here’s the thing: I’ve played football my
whole life. If there’s one thing I know, it’s how to adjust when the game
changes. And if there’s one thing I always do, it’s find a way to win.
Granted, the stakes are higher. The playbook
has changed. There’s more on the line than (another) MVP title. But guess what
hasn’t changed? Me. I’m still Branch “Lucky” Best and I’m not about to fumble
this one.
Grab a seat and a subscription to Expose. I’m
about to make some headlines. (Again.)
A sexy, swoon-filled standalone novel.

“One question,” Poppy interjects, looking at Branch. “What position are you?”
“I typically like the bottom so I can watch—oomph,” he says, getting another elbow
from Finn. “Wide receiver. Why?”
Looking at Poppy, I can’t help but laugh as her eyes light up.
“You got a problem with wide receivers?” Branch asks.
“You do,” Finn interjects, giving me a narrowed glare. “They aren’t any better than
quarterbacks.”
Branchlooks from me, to Finn, and back to me. “Why do we not like quarterbacks?”
“My sister was dating Callum Worthington.”
“No shit?”
His face puckers like he just bit into a lemon. “How in the hell did that
cocksucker end up with you?”
“He didn’t. We’re not together anymore.”
Branch’s eyes heat, the look causing my pulse to quicken. “I’m not a bit sorry to hear that.”
“You better forget you heard any of that,” Finn warns. “This is my sister, Branch. Not a cheerleader or reporter or some chick from a dating app. Got it?”
“Finn, relax,” I say, shoving a swallow past the lump in my throat. “I appreciate the
big brother spiel, but I can handle myself.”
“I know you can,” he says, pulling his gaze away from Branch. “But you can’t handle him.”

Tracey’s Review

“Life is timed to a watch we don’t control. Things happen today to set up things later that we can’t predict or see or imagine. Don’t fight it. Embrace it.”

If Layla Miller knows one thing about pro football players, she knows that they’re, well, players. Layla’s learned that lesson, both from her brother Finn and his friends, and from personal experience. It’s been demonstrated time and again that, off the field, it’s no holds barred.

When Layla meets Branch “Lucky” Best, she’s determined not to make the same mistake again, the one that’s all fun and games until it’s not. And, Branch? He’s all about the good time, and Layla is at the top of his list for good times, best friend’s sister or not.

There’s not a book that Adriana Locke has written that I don’t love, and part of what makes her a favorite is that she writes so many different kinds of books. From angsty, heartbreaking reads (that’d be SACRIFICE) to a series of Southern boys that each own a piece of my heart (that’s you, Landrys), Addy truly has something for everyone. LUCKY NUMBER ELEVEN, Addy’s addition to the Exposé series, is all things sexy and sweet, with moments of pure philosophy mixed in.

The thing about Adriana’s books is, there are layers. Branch could be just another football god, all swagger and pheromones, but that’s not the sum total of who he is. It takes life throwing a monster of a curveball (sorry, I’m mixing sports metaphors, but…) in the form of one Layla James Miller to show Branch just what’s important, and Addy does a wonderful job of helping him shine.

Don’t get me wrong, there is plenty of steam, sizzle, and sexy times for our Lucky Number Eleven and his lady. But the humor, the life lessons, and the way that they navigate those unexpected detours really made this book such an enjoyable read for me. LUCKY NUMBER ELEVEN is an easy 4.5 ‘coffee cake and curveballs’ stars for me, and perfect for fans of contemporary romance with plenty of swoony, sexy, heartwarming moments.
