Synopsis

A charming, clever, and quietly moving debut novel of of endless possibilities and joyful discoveries that explores the promises we make and break, losing and finding ourselves, the objects that hold magic and meaning for our lives, and the surprising connections that bind us.

Lime green plastic flower-shaped hair bobbles—Found, on the playing field, Derrywood Park, 2nd September.

Bone china cup and saucer—Found, on a bench in Riveria Public Gardens, 31st October.

Anthony Peardew is the keeper of lost things. Forty years ago, he carelessly lost a keepsake from his beloved fiancée, Therese. That very same day, she died unexpectedly. Brokenhearted, Anthony sought consolation in rescuing lost objects—the things others have dropped, misplaced, or accidently left behind—and writing stories about them. Now, in the twilight of his life, Anthony worries that he has not fully discharged his duty to reconcile all the lost things with their owners. As the end nears, he bequeaths his secret life’s mission to his unsuspecting assistant, Laura, leaving her his house and and all its lost treasures, including an irritable ghost.

Recovering from a bad divorce, Laura, in some ways, is one of Anthony’s lost things. But when the lonely woman moves into his mansion, her life begins to change. She finds a new friend in the neighbor’s quirky daughter, Sunshine, and a welcome distraction in Freddy, the rugged gardener. As the dark cloud engulfing her lifts, Laura, accompanied by her new companions, sets out to realize Anthony’s last wish: reuniting his cherished lost objects with their owners.

Long ago, Eunice found a trinket on the London pavement and kept it through the years. Now, with her own end drawing near, she has lost something precious—a tragic twist of fate that forces her to break a promise she once made.

As the Keeper of Lost Objects, Laura holds the key to Anthony and Eunice’s redemption. But can she unlock the past and make the connections that will lay their spirits to rest?

Full of character, wit, and wisdom, The Keeper of Lost Things is heartwarming tale that will enchant fans of The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake, Garden Spells, Mrs Queen Takes the Train, and The Silver Linings Playbook.

Michel’s Review

Keeper Of Lost Things by Ruth Hogan is a poignantly beautiful novel of love, life, and everything in between.  It captures moments in time that leave a memory, cherished or forgotten, on ones soul.  Every thing has a story and it’s important to preserve that story or finally allow it to be completed.  One man found the beauty in lost things after he lost the most important thing in his life.  He has made it his life mission to collect lost items and return them to their rightful owners at some point in time.  Every item gives meaning to a lost moment in time that marks a moment in a person’s life. Anthony Peardew is the keeper of lost things.

Anthony Peardew has spent forty years collecting lost things after he lost the love of his life when he was a young.  Not only has he collected lost things, he has also managed to collect lost people.  That is how he acquired Laura, his lonely, broken middle aged assistant who lost herself in a bad marriage.  He aquired a scarred gardener, Freddy, that lost his faith in the sincerity of people after he chose the life he lives now.  He’s also acquired a watcher,Sunshine, a young woman waiting for an invitation of friendship. As the keeper of lost things it is his duty to return what’s been lost.  The only way he can accomplish his task is to die and hand his the responsibility over to Laura.  Thus begins the a beautiful tale.

The secrets Anthony Peardew was hiding in his study left Laura completely dumbfounded.  He had given her the task of returning each item that was carefully labled with the date it was found, the location of where it was found, and a brief description of the item.    A knock on the door is all it takes to set the task in motion.  Sunshine has appointed herself Laura’s new friend.  Her special qualities and unique gifts quickly win Laura over.  As they begin Anthony’s task, Freddy becomes a part of their circle.  The three of them embark on a journey that leads them to finding the very things they lost in their own lives.  They also found new things such as friendship and love to add to their personal collection known as life.

Each lost item has a story.  Some stories are heartbreaking while others are freeing.  Some bring Anthony’s mission full circle.  In the end Anthony touched many lives by being the Keeper Of Lost Things. These stories add credibility to Anthony’s purpose in life.

There is another side story loaded with colorful characters that coincides with Anthony’s lifetime of collecting that brings the story full circle. It’s the story of Bomber and Eunice and their forty years of friendship.

As I read this book I became completely immersed within this story.  It played out like a movie in my head. This novel is unique and told in a very British manner. The dry humor combined with the proper use of language and very traditional customs make this novel vividly come to life. I could easily see Liam Neeson as Anthony Peardew, Kate Hudson as Laura, Laura Potter as Sunshine, Luke Evans as Freddy, Jude Law as Bomber, Cate Blanchett as Eunice, Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren as Bomber’s parents, and Emma Thompson as Portia. This dream cast could bring this novel to life on the big screen.

This poignant story is vibrant and demonstrates the beauty of life itself. Keeper Of Lost Things by Ruth Hogan has become one of my favorite novels.

As a child I read everything I could lay my hands on: The Moomintrolls, A Hundred Million Francs, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, the back of cereal packets and gravestones. I was mad about dogs and horses, but didn’t like daddy-long-legs or sugar in my tea.

I studied English and Drama at Goldsmiths College which was brilliant, but then I came home and got a ‘proper’ job. I worked for ten years in a senior local government position (I was definitely a square peg in a round hole, but it paid the bills and mortgage) before a car accident left me unable to work full-time and convinced me to start writing seriously. It was going well, but then in 2012 I got cancer, which was bloody inconvenient but precipitated an exciting hair journey from bald to a peroxide blonde Annie Lennox crop. When chemo kept me up all night I passed the time writing and the eventual result was The Keeper of Lost Things.

I live in a chaotic Victorian house with an assortment of rescue dogs and my long-suffering partner (who has very recently become my husband – so I can’t be that bad!) I am a magpie, always collecting treasures, and a huge John Betjeman fan. My favourite word is ‘antimacassar’ and I still like reading gravestones.

Synopsis

New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett steams up the ice all over again as the Carolina Cold Fury hockey team’s hottest bad boy gets his first taste of something good.

In a league full of troublemakers, Cold Fury defenseman Roman Sýkora stands out—at least when it comes to negative publicity. When he’s not chilling in the penalty box, the sizzling Czech skate demon is racking up tabloid headlines for his scandalous behavior with the ladies. But now Roman’s feeling the burn from management to clean up his act, or else. Luckily he’s got an enticing distraction: a fun-loving barista who plays the ukulele and brings out a side of Roman he didn’t know he had.

Lexi Robertson came to Raleigh, North Carolina, to finally meet her father, Brian Brannon, and her half sister, Gray, both of whom work in the Cold Fury’s front office. That’s where she first meets sexy, intimidating Roman—who’s really a big softie at heart. As one relationship takes off, another begins: Brian seems to be clicking with Lexi’s boss at the coffee shop. But when the friction between Roman and her new family heats up, Lexi wonders whether she’s a pawn in their game. Feeling hurt and foolish, Lexi’s ready to quit while she’s ahead. Trouble is, Roman’s not ready to quit on her.

Michel’s Review

One would think the Cold Fury Hockey series has reached it’s potential but like the team, Sawyer Bennett is switching up the plays, changing the roster, and scoring new goals that keep these books at the top of the game.  Every time I read a new Cold Fury Hockey novel it becomes my favorite.  I fall in love with each player. Sawyer Bennett has turned me into a Cold Fury Puck Bunny.  I can’t wait “to do” the next player.

Out of all of the Cold Fury Hockey novels, I can honestly say that this one could very well be the Stanley Cup winner in the series.  It’s not because Roman Sykora is the sexiest player on the team or because he’s the baddest of the bad boys on the team.  It’s not because Lexi Robertson has the special magic to land bad boy Roman Sykora.  It’s something even more magical than the swoon worthy romance, it’s the timing of this novel in the series.  It takes the Cold Fury Hockey world in a new direction.  It also gives the reader a very different perspective of some of the characters in previous books.  This book focuses on family dynamics and how each individual contributes to the dynamics in positive and negative actions.  It shows some very real character flaws that each individual possesses.  This made this series seem much more than a romance series.  It became real.

It all starts with Gray Bannon laying down the law with defenseman Roman Sykora.  She has ordered him to clean up his act on and off the ice.  She’s indicated it could cost him his position on the team.  As far as she is concerned his behavior is detrimental to the team.

As far as Roman is concerned he’s doing his job, doing exactly what he is being paid to do.  This is hockey not a friendly match.  He’s paid to fight and protect his team.  It doesn’t matter who starts it, it matters who ends it.  He’s doing his job and his personal life should not matter on the ice.  Nobody tells Roman Sykora what he can do with his free time.  That’s his choice.  He’s always been in charge of how he lives and the rules he lives by for most of his life.  For the sake of his career, he’s willing to bend a little but not a lot.  He doesn’t have a bad attitude, it’s just the way he is and he owns it.

Lexi Robertson has come to North Carolina to meet her father after finally finding out who he is on her mother’s deathbed.  She’s not there to cause trouble, she just wants to meet the man who gave her life, who happens to be the owner of the Cold Fury Hockey team, Brian Bannon. She wants to make some kind of connection.

What she encounters upon her first meeting is a little overwhelming.  First she meets the sexy defenseman, Roman Sykora, while waiting for her meeting with Brian. There’s an instant connection.  She quickly realizes they are cut from the same mold and march to their own beat.

Then Brian reacts quite differently than she expected.  Rather than being turned away, she is embraced whole heartedly.  In fact she has to slow him down and make him take the necessary time in their new father / daughter relationship.  He’s a good man with a good heart.

Lexi and Roman are starting something that goes beyond a one night stand.  For the first time Roman wants the lady to stick around in the morning.  He wants to spend time getting to know Lexi Robertson.  He’ll have to compete with Brian Bannon for her time, Even though Roman is not the family kind of guy, he’s understanding of Lexi’s desire for a relationship with her father and sister.  He’s willing to patiently wait for Lexi’s time because he knows how important it is to Lexi.  He’s learning to compromise.

Brian Bannon is thrilled by the revelation of a new daughter.  He wants to get to know Lexi and become a part of her life.  Becoming a part of her life includes getting along with her quirky boss / adopted mom, Georgia Mack.  For the first time in years Brian is attracted to woman and doesn’t know what to do about it.  His life has been hockey and his daughter.

Gray Bannon is on a completely different page than Brian.  She has a hard time believing that Lexi Robertson is her father’s secret lovechild.  She’s going on the defense and refusing to budge at all where Lexi is concerned.  To make matters worse, Lexi is dating Roman Sykora, the player she detests.  Readers are going to see a very different side of Gray Bannon.

In the end this odd little family are all going to learn what the word compromise really means.  Lexi and Roman are going to find what a real relationship really is.  Brian Bannon is not only gaining a daughter, he is also finding out that he is man with real desires he thought he lost long ago with his wife.  Georgia Mack is working her quirky magic on his heart.  Gray Bannon is also learning some new lessons in life.  For the first time she is having to share her daddy.

This book adds new colorful dimensions to the Carolina Cold Fury Hockey series.  Sawyer wrote this from Lexi’s, Roman’s, and Brian’s POV.  She showed that even the strongest people have insecurities but it doesn’t make them unlovable.  It makes them even more worthy of love.  That is the reason that this book is my favorite in the series.

Mallory Sims is late for her first day of work.

After spilling her tea, she discovers she has no gas in her car. Add that her arm keeps sticking to her dress from syrup left on the console of her car, flustered feels like an understatement.

Then she sees her new boss.

Graham Landry is the epitome of NSFW in his custom-fit suit, black-rimmed glasses, and a look so stern her libido doesn’t stand a chance. Being flustered is just the start of her problems.

Her punctuality is only the start of his. With a pink slip in hand, he’s been waiting on his new secretary to show up only to let her go. Then she rushes in with her doe eyes and rambling excuses, smelling like bacon and lavender. The termination paper falls to the side as she falls in his arms.

This is a disaster in the making. Not because of his pinpoint exactness or her free spirit, but because when they’re together, the sparks that fly threaten to burn the whole place down.

Excerpt

We both know we aren’t just talking about a moved stapler or a mishmash of files. As that really sets in, the air around us gets heavier. Hotter. Hazardous.“Those things always lead to dangerous situations,” he says, his eyes trained on me.

I shift in my seat, the throb between my legs growing stronger by the second. “People do it every day and survive.”

“They may survive, but don’t things get messy?”

“Only if they do it right.”

His chair flies backwards and he’s to his feet and next to me before I know what’s happening. He doesn’t ask that I stand, but he doesn’t have to. It’s implied and my body reacts accordingly to his silent command.

We stand face-to-face, our breathing ragged. Our chests heave with the anticipation, the possibility, of what might come next.

“You are, quite possibly, the most dangerous of them all,” he says, his voice rough.

“Why is that?” I breathe.

“There’s no plan for you.”

“But you’ve already penciled me in, haven’t you, Graham?” I ask, finding the courage to play this little game with him. Being strictly professional is incredibly hard, and this is way too easy.

I can flirt with the best of them in a bar or on a college campus. But here, with him, it’s a game all its own. A level I had no idea I’d ever be a contender in. Maybe I’m not, but I’m going to play the hell out of it while I’m here … even though if I keep it up, I might not be here for long.

“What do you want, Mallory?”

“I want to do all the things you ask of me and do them better than you ever expected they could be done.”

A rumble emits from his throat as his eyes darken. My knees go weak and I grab the table with my left hand to ensure I don’t fall.

He licks his lips and flips his gaze to my mouth. I think I whimper as I lift my chin, waiting to see what he does next. My entire body is on fire for this man, my heart thumping so hard I’m sure he can hear it.

He moves so my back is pressed against the table, our food long forgotten. His hands are on either side of me, caging me in. Our eyes locked together, he leans in, a slow smirk spreading across his gorgeous face.

“Excuse me, Mr. Landry. Ford is here to see you,” Raza chirps through the line.

We exhale simultaneously, a giggle escaping with mine. There’s nothing funny about this, but the energy has to come out in some way.

“Mr. Landry?” she asks again.

“I’ll be right out. Thank you, Raza.”

“Oh, you’re so welcome, sir.” The line clicks off and Graham marches across the room and punches a button. The light on top indicates he’s not to be disturbed.

I busy myself with cleaning up our lunch, and before he’s at my side again, I have everything bundled up.

“Thanks for lunch,” I say like nothing just happened.

“Mallory …” He runs his hand through his hair, leaving one lock sticking up. Knowing what that will look like if we walk out together, I reach up, hesitating for a split second, before smoothing it out.

His hair is silky against my fingers. He jumps when I touch him at first, but doesn’t back away. “What are you doing?”

“Nothing went on in here. I refuse for it to look like something did. That’s the way rumors get spread, Mr. Landry.”

“Mallory, I …”

I get a final look at his face, reach up and straighten his tie as his eyes go wide, then turn towards the door. “I’ll send Ford in.”

“Mallory!”

“Yeah?” I turn to see him over my shoulder. He’s standing by the table, his hands in his pockets looking frazzled. When he doesn’t respond, I place my hand on the knob. “I’ll have that file back to you before I leave today. Thanks again for lunch.”

I walk out before I can change my mind.

Tracey’s Review

Family is the most important thing in the world to me, and there’s nothing more I’d like than to have my own.

Oh, I have been waiting for this one. Graham Landry, serious, buttoned-up, handler of all things Landry, I just knew that there was more going on underneath that suited-up exterior. And, boy, is there. Our Graham has been doing a pretty good job of hiding what a bad boy he can be, but, when the walls come down, make sure that you have a fan and a cold drink handy, because, O.M.G.

While reading and loving the previous two books in the Landry Family series by author Adriana Locke, I’ve been taking note. Because, while I love Barrett for the way that he is willing to go beyond what is societally expected of him when he falls for Alison, and Lincoln, because of the sheer joy of his personality and the way that he puts Danielle first, I have been keeping my eye on Graham. Serious, all business, get the job done and clean up the messes Graham. Why? Because I just knew. I knew that Addy had a secret heartthrob and heartbreaker lurking below those still waters.

Family is everthing to Graham. He’s the one that keeps the well-oiled machinery of the Landry family businesses running smoothly. He’s got a compartment for everything, everything nice and neat and where it belongs, and, there is absolutely no room for change. Which is why watching Mallory Sims come in and rock Graham’s very absolute world made me clap my hands and my little heart go pitter pat.

Mallory is everything that Graham is not. Like Graham, she’s suffered some serious heartbreak, but she’s not letting that hold her back. Mallory, I think, is next to the description of ‘wide open and sassy’ in the dictionary. Poor Graham doesn’t know what hit him, and it’s about a minute and a half before his well-ordered world goes backside-up.

There is such steam, such heat, and such a breaking down of walls in SWITCH, and I could not put this book down for the love of watching these two characters go. And grow, because they do an excellent job of helping each other round out the rough edges and become the fullest versions of themselves. And, heat, did I say heat? Oh.My.Goodness, off-the-charts hot with these two. Seriously, guys, fan and cold beverage while reading, I’m telling you.

It wouldn’t be an Adriana book without a lot of family and a lot of love, and SWITCH has these things in spades. Barrett, Lincoln, Ford, Camilla and Sienna, all are present and accounted for, and they make this book the better for it. I especially love the relationship between the Landry boys, and was laughing out loud at some of their interchanges. And speaking of Landry men, Ford Landry, I’ve got my eye on you, because, while I think that Graham’s my Number One right now, I can’t wait to see what we get from Addy about you…Anyway, SWITCH is another winner for me, and an easy 5-stars, with all of its love, laughter, family, and, yes, the sexy factor, too. If you’ve read the previous two books in the series, this is a no-brainer, and, if you haven’t, you need to catch up, stat. Add these books to your TBR, because you do not want to miss out on the Landry family. You’re welcome. 🙂

A Sign Of Love Novel – Inspired by Gemini

By Mia Sheridan

Synopsis

There were two brothers—identical twins—and though I loved them both, my soul belonged to only one.

Annalia Del Valle has loved Preston Sawyer all her life. The daughter of an impoverished migrant farmworker, she grew up as an outcast in what was no more than a tiny, cooped up shack in California’s Central Valley. But her heart found freedom in the land, in the wide-open spaces of Sawyer Farm, and in the boys who were her only friends.

Preston has yearned for Annalia since he was a boy. But a sense of honor kept him from pursuing her until he’s unable to hold back any longer and their worlds—and bodies—collide one hot summer night. A night that sets off a chain of events that will alter their lives forever.

Now Annalia is back in town after disappearing without a trace for six long months. Determined to reclaim her heart, her life, and the baby she left behind—the son who was created in a moment of lust and love and pent-up yearning.

Preston has survived grief, a ravaging drought, and the despair of heartache, but he’s not sure he can survive Annalia again. And he might be unwilling to try. Will pride and bitterness keep him from the one thing he’s always longed for?

How do you heal what is irreparably broken? How do you forgive that which is unforgivable? How do you discover that real honor comes not from circumstance, but from the place deep in our hearts where truth resides? And how do you move beyond the wounds of the past to discover that some loves are as solid as the ground beneath your feet, and as enduring as the earth itself?

THIS IS A STAND-ALONE SIGN OF LOVE NOVEL, INSPIRED BY GEMINI. New Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

Tracey’s Review

This was the idyllic dream I’d never imagined possible. This wasn’t small. This was where my heart had always yearned to be.

Without fail, every single time, with every single one of her books, Mia Sheridan owns another piece of my heart. She writes with such love and passion, birthing characters and their stories that touch the heart and create a world that it is impossible not to lose yourself in.

Mia drew me in completely with this story of love in its many forms. I say this after reading each of her books, but PRESTON’S HONOR is very near the top of my favorite of her works (that position still goes to KYLAND, but this one is a very close second). It is written with such love and compassion, with such an understanding of what it means to feel like an outsider, and how healing love can be.

I think that one of the reasons that Lia is so drawn to Preston and Cole is the unconditional acceptance and love that she feels from them, something lacking in the only other relationship that she has, with her mother. There is an openness to the boys, and, as two sides of the same coin, they meet the different needs for love, friendship, and companionship that Lia is thirsty for. Any separation, any smallness that she feels is of her own making, because of the distance that she feels between her station in life and theirs.

I am absolutely in love with Preston Sawyer. This man, from the time that he can remember, has seen something in Lia that he recognizes as his. His brother, Cole, is his other half, but Lia is his true north, and nothing, not time, not distance, not the fact that she may belong to his own brother, can dim the love that he has for her. And, while he is still just a man, and makes mistakes like we all do, the beauty of Preston is his willingness to learn, to open himself up again and give Lia all of himself.

Lia is just lovely. She has done whatever she’s had to do to make life better for her mother and herself, suffering the pain of living a life feeling ‘less than’ because of who and what she is. Lia thrives under the attention of the Sawyer boys because they offer her the thing that she yearns for, non-judgmental, fully accepting love. One of the things that I enjoyed most about Lia’s story, though, is seeing her emerge as a strong woman, a woman that becomes unafraid to ask for what she wants and needs, and offers the same to others.

There are those books that I pick up and enjoy reading, and those that I can’t put down. There’s just that little something different about the latter type, that certain something that draws me in and doesn’t let go. This is true of all of Mia’s books, but PRESTON’S HONOR touched my heart in a way that I will remember for a very long time, and I couldn’t recommend it more. This book is definitely one of my favorite reads of this year, and one that I would recommend to everyone. Add it to your TBR and take the time to savor it as soon as time allows. It will change you, and you will love it.

Michel’s Review

Mia Sheridan has once again stole a piece of my heart with her latest release, Preston’s Honor.  With each new book, Mia brings something new to the table that is not only a passionate romance but also a compassionate insight to life, love, family, and society.  As I read this novel I found that I was experiencing more than a romance, it was challenging my thoughts on human nature and showing me the other side of those thoughts.  It is truly a humble reading experience.

Lia has always been an outsider all of her life.  As a child of an illegal migrant worker, life has been one of poverty and constant struggle.  As a daughter conceived in violence, she has been a constant reminder to her mother of the evil that stole her hopes and dreams.  As a young girl looking at her small world, a farming community, every persons life seems brighter, livelier, and prosperous.  As a minority nationality she has experienced the small minded views that leave her feeling like she doesn’t quite fit in or measure up to the standards of the community.  Meeting the Sawyer twins irrevocably changes her life.  The Sawyer twins offer her friendship, acceptance, and unconditional love.  Each boy gives Lia something she desperately needs in her life.  Cole Sawyer gives her the courage to have hopes and dreams.  Preston Sawyer gives her unconditional love and stability.  The two boys would do anything for Lia because they both love the beautiful person that she is.  As they grow from childhood into young adulthood, the dynamics of their friendship change.  Both boys want her heart and know that only one can claim it.  How they handle the situation is something only twins, two half of a whole, could do.

As young adults, their lives are only beginning.  The Sawyer boys are off to college to create their bright futures.  Lia is also creating a better life for herself back at home.  She’s got a decent job, a better home, and is able to take care of her mother.  When the Sawyer boys return home for their father’s funeral, all of their lives change once again.  The dynamics of their relationship are challenged once again.

Great tragedies take Lia and Prseton’s life on a new path.  From the tragic mistakes to birth of their child, they are both an emotional mess. Not only are they struggling with heartache and loss, they are also battling their own emotional demons.  Mother Nature has also added her own wrath that could not only destroy their farm but ruin their community as well.  Lia and Preston’s world has imploded. Now they both have to come to terms with their world and own their realities.  They have to face the grief and pain in order to move forward. How they choose to handle those emotions is what is going to make them stronger individuals and more committed to their love for one another.

Mia Sheridan has once again delivered an outstanding book.

Only things don’t go as planned, and it turns out that Vaughn is actually a jerk. A hot jerk, but a jerk nonetheless.

So, why do their clothes keep falling off whenever they’re around each other? And why can’t Charly keep her mind in the closet and off Vaughn?

Getting mixed up with a smart-mouthed, fashion-obsessed wardrobe assistant is the last thing Vaughn needs.

Getting mixed up with an arrogant, self-centered, obnoxious, jumped-up actor who has a lack of respect for fashion is the last thing Charly needs.

Things are about to get hot, dirty, and messy in Hollywood. Very messy. Especially if Charly’s closely guarded secret falls out of her closet.

Michel’s Review

Get ready to head to Hollywood with Samantha Towle in her latest book, Wardrobe Malfunction.  A sexy movie star romance sizzling behind the scenes rather than on the big screen.  You won’t want to miss this blockbuster release.

Hollywood heart throb Vaughn West has found himself in a bit of a mess.  After a disastrous interview while promoting his last movie left his co star with a bloody nose and his ex girlfriend with crocodile tears, he’s no longer the Hollywood heart throb but rather Hollywood’s bad boy.  His destructive behavior is ruining his chances of landing any A-list movie roles.  He’s going down fast until his agent steps in dangling a lead role with the industry’s hottest director and forces him to clean up his act really fast.  He needs this role to save his reputation and career.  His main focus is this movie.  He will let nothing get in his way of climbing back on top.  That is until there is a wardrobe malfunction that could ruin his chances of becoming a father or enjoying sex again.  His personal wardrobe specialist has stuck him where it really counts and his swimmers may be drowning.  Worse than that, the sexy wardrobe girl has caught his complete attention in a very bad way.  Either he’s going to die from his injury or die from blue balls because of her sassy boots and sexy bottom.  Her twerking in the wardrobe trailer isn’t helping.  What’s a guy to do?  According to her, he should wear a cocksock to help with his injury.  He thinks he needs to wear her.

Charlotte “Charlie” Michaels has landed the job of her dreams on a major movie set.  The biggest perk is that she’s going to be dressing Vaughn West, her fantasy man.  When she accidentally pins him rather than his suit, she can see her dream job floating down the river.  She’s going to have to prove she meant no bodily harm and make amends.

Thus begins the behind the scenes romance between Charlie and Vaughn.  They can’t keep their clothes on around each other.  They have to keep their shenanigans a secret to save Vaughn’s career.  Charlie is only going to be in Hollywood for a short time and then she will return back to her life in New York.  Their affair has an expiration date.  Neither one counted on falling in love.  Neither one counted on Charlie’s secret being the final straw that could ruin Vaughn’s career.  Hollywood is a fickle place, Vaughn’s star may be dying but his love for Charlie could mean it’s ultimate death.

This could be Vaughn’s greatest opportunity or his complete downfall.  Only he can decide how the scene plays out.

Wardrobe Malfunction by Samantha Towle was a delightful sexy movie star romance.  The humor made this book stand out among the movie star romance books on the market.  The intense chemistry between Vaughn and Charlie are what love scenes are all about.  I was entertained and thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Excerpt

“I adore all of the women in my life,” he says. “I’d do anything for them.” He’s looking at me as he says it, and my heart flutters in my chest. But I’m not sure if he’s including me in that group, or if the hint of meaning I hear in his voice is nothing more than my imagination.

I shake my head as I frown, trying to clear my thoughts.

“You okay?”

“Fine,” I say, though it’s not true. Our rhythm is off, and it’s scaring me. We’ve always been in sync, even before we were dating. And now—well, now it almost feels like he’s deliberately keeping me off balance.

I want to get back to normal, and I don’t know the path, and my lack of confidence is frustrating me.

“Are you heading home?” Ryan asks.

I shake my head. “Oh, I don’t know. I haven’t decided. You?”

“Moira and I are taking Mom back to the hotel.”

I wait for him to invite me along, and when he doesn’t, I say, “It’ll be nice for you guys to have time to chat in the car. But she usually crashes early, doesn’t she?”

“Usually. Why?”

“Oh. Um.” I lick my lips. “Because I was wondering if you wanted to meet me somewhere. We could get a drink. We could talk.”

“Talk,” he repeats. He meets my eyes, and I see the question in them—have I changed my mind? Am I going to say yes?

I glance down at the floor.

“Talk,” he repeats. “No, I’m sorry. I can’t do that.”

I look up, frustrated. “But, Ryan, I just—”

“I have plans. I’m going to Westerfield’s.”

“Oh.” Westerfield’s is one of the hottest clubs in town. It’s also a Stark property, which means when Ryan goes he gets the full VIP treatment. Something that never fails to snag the attention of the female patrons. Most of whom are usually drunk. And wearing outfits that are barely big enough to keep a Barbie doll modest.

“Oh,” I repeat.

I wait for him to suggest I join him there, but all he says is, “It really was great that you came.” Then the bastard leans in and kisses my cheek. He kisses my f*cking cheek.

Michel’s Review

Fans of the Stark Series and Stark International series have been waiting for Jamie and Hunter’s happily ever after.  This couple has been a steadfast throughout both series.  Jamie is known for her loving, quirky personality and free spirit.  Hunter is the hot alpha male who dominates in the sexiest way.  These two have been lead supporting characters throughout both series.  So why haven’t they taken the plunge and married like their friends and colleagues.  Their love for another isn’t the issue.  It’s Jamie.  It’s time for Hunter to draw the line and either take control or let Jamie go.

Are Jamie and Hunter going to make it to the alter?  Read the book!

J. Kenner has finally given the readers more of this sexy couple.  I enjoyed their story even though I wanted to kick Jamie in the rear.  Hunter dominated the pages and my heart. This is a perfect addition to both series.

Michel’s Review

Writing this review has left me dumbfounded.  I’m not quite sure where to start or what to say so that I don’t give away spoilers.  I have attempted to draft this review several times only to hit delete.  I am really struggling to find the right words to do this book and this series justice.  So let me begin by talking about the series itself.

The Hell’s Bastard Series must be read in order to grasp the full intent of the story unfolding.  Each book is delivered with a perfectly synchronized installment that drives this series in a new direction before reaching it’s ultimate climax.  Making it unpredictable.

The Hell’s Bastard Series by Emma James is unlike anything out there.  It is a dark romantic thriller that touches upon human trafficking, captivity, violence, abuse, and psychological torment.  At the same time it also showcases the things that make life valuable, such as family, friendship, love, integrity, and confidence in oneself to stay true to their inner self.  It’s all blended in a shroud of mystery, suspense, and danger at every turn.  There is more than a warped evil villain contorting each and every move. Each installment in the Hell’s Bastard series contains one word and one word only.  Pay close attention to the word title of each book.  Look up the definition of each word.  The title is what propels this series to the next level.

wrench
ren(t)SH/
verb
past tense: wrenched; past participle: wrenched
pull or twist (someone or something) suddenly and violently.

warp
wôrp/Submit
verb
past tense: warped; past participle: warped
1.
become or cause to become bent or twisted out of shape, typically as a result of the effects of heat or dampness.
“wood has a tendency to warp”
synonyms: buckle, twist, bend, distort, deform, misshape, skew, curve, bow, contort

con·tort
kənˈtôrt/Submit
verb
past tense: contorted; past participle: contorted
twist or bend out of its normal shape.

Contorted is the third book in the Hell’s Bastard series.  It picks up where Warped left off.  Whisper is being held captive by Cezar Pavel in a secret location.  His psychological games are contorting what’s coming.  While Whisper is desperately hanging onto her sanity and hope that Edge will find her, she’s slowly losing the battle.  The things she thought she feared most are turning into something else, not quite as frightening.  The unimaginable fears are beginning to materialize.  It’s only the tip of the iceberg.  What Cezar Pavel has in store for her makes her years in captivity with William Dupre look like childs play.

Cezar Pavel is biding his time and conditioning the girls for upcoming main event.  He’s carefully chosen his sentinels to do his bidding. His rule is unquestionable.  To question is not without consequences.  He’s personally conditioned his executioner to kill without questions or remorse.  He carefully hides their identities behind Venetian Carnival masks. These masks instill fear and complete obedience .  No one knows his real identity or those of his sentinels.

Edge is desperately trying to find Whisper.  It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack.  In the ordinary world Cezar Pavel does not exist.  In the underworld there is barely a trace of Cezar Pavel.  He has completely hid his existence, he hasn’t left any crumbs to follow.  The only thing that Edge can do is follow the small trail of crumbs he uncovered at the secret air hanger.  It’s a waiting game where time is running out before it began.  The only thing he can do is enlist the help of Boomer and his crew (Whisper’s family), call in the Soulless Bastards MC, the Lions Den MC, and Slade Malone (Ocean Beach Series).  Following that one crumb turns into a meticulously synchronized rescue attempt that turns into an unpredictable and explosive cliffhanger.

As an avid reader, I am not one to shy away from dark thrillers that portray extreme violence and inhumane actions.  I accept these conditions as part of the overall story.  Usually at this point in a series I have an idea of what direction the series is going.  I can usually loosely predict what is to come next.  Contorted was a different story, what I thought was coming did not unfold.  The players were as unpredictable as the plot.  I was completely SHOCKED by the outcome.  I cannot even imagine what could come next because I was left with so many questions as to the who’s, the why’s, and how are they all connected.  I am sure Emma James has a lot in store for the readers with the last two books before Whisper can finally find her happily ever after… or should I say true beginning… true freedom.  The next book is Entwined and will release in 2017.  The title itself assures me that I will get some answers but will probably end up with more questions before the final book, Venerated releases.

Emma James has proven beyond a shadow of doubt how truly talented and brilliant her writing is.  The vivid descriptions ( which had me Googling like crazy) and synchronized scenes told from many different POV’s made this story come to life.  It was a consuming reading experience!

Synopsis

As a little girl, I saw my father destroy the family he claimed to love. I watched my mother waste her life dreaming of a man who left her without a second glance.

As a woman, I don’t dream, I work. I don’t fall in love, I focus. I would never let anything as frivolous as love distract me.

Until I meet Simon. A gorgeous, brilliant young architect with dark eyes, a sweet smile, and a dirty, dirty mouth. He sets me on fire, and suddenly all I can do is dream…of his hands, his lips, his body. Of a heart good enough and a love strong enough to make me believe in happily ever after.

But Simon has secrets that are even deeper than mine. Will our pasts destroy everything we’ve worked for? Or will we find the courage to rise to the challenge and fight for the love we share?

 4 StarTracey’s Review

Dreams aren’t made of fairytales and romance, they’re made of hard work and grit.

As far as Adelaide Hassan is concerned, hard work and determination are the things that will get her where she wants to be in life. She will never depend on anyone to get what she needs, and she’ll be stronger and better off for it.

RISE, the debut novel by author Dylan Allen, is a book about breaking through the walls that we create around ourselves to let love in. After having watched her mom give up everything to support a man that had deserted their family, leaving them to face the fallout, Addie is certain that she will get everything that she wants and needs without the help of any man. But when she meets up-and-coming architect Simon, Addie lets her heart guide her for the first time. Simon, though, has a past and a present that keep him from allowing himself to fall. Addie makes him believe that he really can have more for the first time in his life.

I like both Addie and Simon. They’ve both been formed by pasts that make emotion a risky venture for them, but, the more that they try to stay away from each other, the more they realize that they can’t run. The real joy is seeing them break down their emotional walls to get to themselves, and, finally, each other.

It’s always a toss-up when you read a book by a new author, because, while I read a lot of different things, I know what I like. Dylan has written a book that not only makes it seem like she’s been doing this for a very long time, but that had me from the first, and compelled me to read on through to the very end.

RISE is a solid 4-star read for me, and one that I would happily recommend for fans of the romance genre. I like Dylan’s style and look forward to seeing more from her in the near future.

Park Avenue Prince

By Louise Bay

THE PRINCE OF PARK AVENUE FINALLY MEETS HIS MATCH IN A FEISTY MANHATTAN PRINCESS.

I’ve made every one of my billions of dollars myself—I’m calculating, astute and the best at what I do. It takes drive and dedication to build what I have. And it leaves no time for love or girlfriends or relationships.

But don’t get me wrong, I’m not a monk.

I understand the attention and focus it takes to seduce a beautiful woman. They’re the same skills I use to close business deals. But one night is where it begins and ends. I’m not the guy who sends flowers. I’m not the guy who calls the next day.

Or so I thought before an impatient, smart-talking, beyond beautiful heiress bursts into my world.

When Grace Astor rolls her eyes at me—I want to hold her against me and show her what she’s been missing.

When she makes a joke at my expense—I want to silence her sassy mouth with my tongue.

And when she leaves straight after we f*ck with barely a goodbye—it makes me want to pin her down and remind her of the three orgasms she just had.

She might be a princess but I’m going to show her who rules in this Park Avenue bedroom.

Tracey’s Review

She’d been mine from the moment I touched her. I’d been hers before I’d ever met her.

Sam Shaw is a self-made man. He’s suffered the worst kind of loss, but has worked hard to put his past behind him to be where he is now. Sam learned a long time ago that he’s best on his own, and he certainly isn’t looking for love. Grace Astor was born to privilege, growing up in the world that Sam has made his own. But Grace is more than just a Park Avenue princess, and she’s about to turn Sam’s world upside down.

After reading KING OF WALL STREET by Louise Bay, I was in love. Now, this is nothing new, because it happens with every single new cast of characters that Louise writes, so I was expecting nothing less. The story, the characters, everything, I adored all of it. And I was ready. Ready to read more about these people, to get the stories of those that had made an appearance and added to Max’s and Harper’s story. Well, thank you, Louise, for giving us PARK AVENUE PRINCE. You’ve gifted us with Grace’s and Sam’s story, and I couldn’t be happier.

So, Sam. Sam is one of those men that want to protect themselves at all costs. There will be no love, no relationship, nothing too deep, because his past experience has shown him that love and attachment equal pain, and he’s had his fill. But then something happens. Grace Astor happens, and life as Sam knows it is turned on its ear.

I adore Grace. I loved her as Harper’s best friend and sidekick in KING, and was over the moon to find that she was to get her own story. Grace is like no one that Sam has met. He doesn’t want to care about her, but he can’t help himself. Because Grace is special. She’s determined to live life on her own terms, to make her own way rather than use the privilege that she’s grown up with to make a name for herself. And she’s steadfast, and passionate, and she perseveres, believing in her relationship with Sam enough for the both of them when he can’t. I really appreciate getting to see a whole other side of Grace than the one Louise gave in KING.

Sam’s and Grace’s story is beautiful and passionate, and their journey to forever is one that will stay with me. As well, I loved getting to catch up with Max, Harper, and their family for a healthy dose of friendship and humor. PARK AVENUE PRINCE is an easy 5-star read for me, and I look forward to Louise’s next book (I’m hoping that either Scarlett or Violet, Max’s sisters, will get their turn!), because it is sure to be wonderful.

Excerpt

Seconds later, I land flat on my back with an oof that’s echoed by the sled as it slaps down a few feet away and shivers across the snow to spin in a lazy circle near a very large rock. I’m staring at the rock, thinking about how much worse things would be right now if I’d fallen on it instead of the snow, and silently thanking the gods of sledding that I’m alive, when I hear a male voice shout—“Fuck! Shit! Shit!”

—from somewhere overhead.

A moment later a steerable sled shoots off the ledge, soaring over my head to ram into a tree, splintering to pieces.

I flinch and cough, the breath rushing back into my lungs. I’m trying to roll over, figuring I’d better get up before my luck runs out and someone lands on top of me, when Nate’s head pops up above the snow bank. “Adeline! Are you okay? Are you hurt?”

My eyes narrow. “You.”

“Stay there, I’ll be right down,” he says, clearly not realizing that he’s the last person I want to see while I’m lying in the snow in a defeated heap.

“I don’t need help,” I call out, but I don’t try to get up again. I’ve already embarrassed myself enough in front of Nate. I refuse to give him the satisfaction of seeing me wallow around in a snowdrift like an artic walrus.

In what feels like no time, he’s found his way down to the scene of my humiliation and fallen to his knees beside me. “Just lie still.” The concern on his face as he tugs off his gloves is almost funny. Too bad I’m not in the mood to laugh anymore. “I have first aid training. Not a lot, but enough to see if anything’s broken. Can you tell me where it hurts?”

“It doesn’t hurt,” I insist, still making no move to rise. “I’m fine. You can leave.”

He scowls, and his eyes flash the way they do when he’s angry. Or turned on. Or maybe angrily turned on, though I’ve never personally seen him in that state. “You just sledded off a goddamned ledge, Adeline,” he says, voice rough. “And you’re not moving.”

“I don’t feel like moving,” I say stubbornly. “I’m enjoying a rest in the snow. So go away, Nate. Go, go, go away, and don’t come back another day.”

His breath rushes out. “That’s mature.”

“Yeah? Well, screw mature,” I say, the heat in my tone surprising me. “I did mature. I did all the mature while you were off hitting keg parties. I don’t have to do mature right now, and I don’t have to talk to you. So go away!”

Nate’s jaw clenches and I’m pretty sure he’s about to lose his temper in a fashion unlike anything I’ve seen from him before.

Instead he leans in, wrapping his hands around my wrists, pinning them to the snow. “I’m not going away,” he whispers inches from my lips, making my pulse spike. “Not until you let me get through to you, one way or another.”

“If you kiss me, I’m going to bite you,” I warn, heart racing.

“Fine by me. I like it when you bite.” And then he kisses me. He kisses me hard and deep and my stupid body lights up like a California brush fire.

My nerve endings ignite, and fireworks launch behind my closed eyes, and I moan into his mouth like he’s the best thing that’s ever happened to my lips. And he is, the bastard. He tastes so good, so incredibly good, like the first drink of water after hours spent boiling in the summer heat—fresh and clean and explosively delicious.

Tracey’s Review

It’s not attraction, not exactly, not that first morning. It’s a spark, a flicker of recognition, a warning that things are about to change in ways I never could have imagined when I woke up in my bed that morning, so certain the path was mapped and the way was clear.

And, so another love story begins…

I’m a huge fan of Lili Valente, and have absolutely loved the romantic comedy series revolving around Magnificent Bastard Consulting. These books make me laugh, swoon, melt, and have introduced me to some of the Lili’s most lovable characters ever. Addie Klein made her first appearance in INCREDIBLE YOU, the quirky, bookish friend of Shane Willoughby. When she ran for the hills at the sight of one Nate Casey, I knew that we would be seeing much more of the two of them.

The backstory between Addie and Nate is endearing and a little bit offbeat, and exactly what I’ve come to expect from Lili. Although they’re just kids, really, the link between the two is strong nonetheless, and I didn’t doubt the depth of their feelings for a minute. But this wouldn’t be a Lili story without a twist, without some turbulence and angst, so, that perfect summer love? Yeah, not so perfect.

One of the things that I love the most about this story is Addie. Sure, Nate’s smart, funny, successful, and determined, but Addie, seeing her stand up for herself and start taking charge of her life, just, heck yeah. As a big fan of strong women, this is what made my heart beat a little bit faster. And, honestly, that strength and spark are what make Addie, well, Addie, and what makes Nate love her as much as he does.

MEANT FOR YOU is more than just a second-chance love story. It’s also about friendship and finding oneself, with a strong dose of what I affectionately like to call “woo woo,” because there is a definite paranormal bent to this story. But it all comes together so very nicely to give us one very wonderful read.

Characters and dialogues are definitely some of Lili’s strong suits, and, with this series, she’s created one heck of a delightful little world. I love revisiting characters from earlier books in the series, and the text messages that abound are some of my favorite things, like, ever. It’s really easy for me to give MEANT FOR YOU, as well as the rest of this sexily charming set, 5+ stars. Missing out on them would be a real shame.
