Michel’s Review

When I first began reading The Pre-Season, I thought I was reading an erotic novella.  After I finished this short story, I realized it was the first step in Josie Savage’s journey to becoming an independent woman.   A vacation affair with an older hot Navy Seal makes her realize how important her upcoming college career is.

Josie and Elijah are perfect together in and out of bed.  Their red hot affair is going to leave them both with steamy memories and fantasy material.  Their lives are on two very different paths.  Josie is heading off to college on the east coast at Montgomery University.  Elijah is a Navy Seal.  He’s bound to his duty and serves with honor.

What started out as a vacation with her superstar NFL quarterback father begins to change the dynamics in the father/ daughter relationship.  Their life together has been a very rocky road.  From denial to neglect, Josie’s father has always been out for himself.  He craves the lime light, fast women, and hero worship.  Josie just wants a father that loves her for who she is.

The relationship begins to change as the time slips away in vacation paradise.  Elijah and Josie’s father are both going to have to let her go.  Josie has to find the courage to leave both these dynamic men behind.

Once I got into The Backup, the first full length novel in the series, I realized how much this short story added depth to the woman Josie has become.

Michel’s Review

Josie Savage’s story starts right where it left off in The Pre-Season.

Her arrival at Montgomery University is anything but quiet.  Once again her father is stealing the limelight as she moves in.  She wants her peers to see her as an individual rather than Joey Savage’s daughter.  It doesn’t help that he bribes her roommates with new computers and threatens the guys outside her Campus Home.

Josie slowly begins to settle in.  She has bonded with her roommates and it looks like freshman year is off to a great start.  At her first college party she catches the attention of both quarterbacks, the starter- Mark Bishop and the backup -Runner Rarity. One is completely available and the biggest manwhore on campus, the other is taken by the meanest woman on campus.  Both are super hot, but one makes her heart race.  The one that is unavailable.  One is a naturally talented athlete that doesn’t need football to succeed in the future and the other is an incredibly talented, hungry player waiting to take the field and make his future.

What starts out as friendship with both of these incredible guys turns into a love triangle that tests her friendships with her roommates, her reputation, and makes her a target for the meanest woman on campus.

One will steal her heart and become the most important man in her life.  The other will become the best friend and strongest ally she has in school.

Fate will step in and prove which player commands the field.  Fate will also test his commitment to the game.  Josie will have find the strength to stay by his side and believe that this is not her father all over again.

I really enjoyed this book.  It was a great introduction to a colorful, dynamic cast of characters that will play a huge role in this series.  It showcased exactly how college is in the freshman year, as well as the importance of college sports.  It also showcased family dynamics and how those relationships can mold our lives.

Synopsis

Montana Tierney had her college path planned. But then her father took the head-football coaching job at Montgomery University and all of her plans came crashing down. Free tuition at MU meant Montana would be going there instead of the college of her dreams. To make matters worse, she has a crush on one of the players on her dad’s new team. Mark Bishop is a notorious playboy who makes it clear to Montana that he doesn’t have time for inexperienced girlfriends. Humiliated, Montana is moving on when Mark admits to himself and to Montana that he has feelings for her. Just as it seems Montana will end up with the hottest guy on the team, a brutal on-field injury threatens to end Montana and Mark’s relationship before it can even begin.

Book two of the well-received “Montgomery University” series of New Adult romances.
**contains plot-driven detailed consensual sex scenes**

4StarPlaid

Michel’s Review

Montana Tierney’s freshman year is quite different from the year she expected.  Rather than going to Notre Dame and spending her freshman year with her boyfriend, she’s going to a small university on the east coast.  Her father took the job as head football coach.  The tuition is free and her family is close by.  She’s left the midwest and her friends behind.  Being the youngest child in the family, her siblings are pursuing their own careers and lives.  She’s stuck in a world that revolves around football.  Her roommates are quite different from her, one is outgoing ,super friendly, and tied to the football team through her boyfriend. The other is withdrawn, moody, and anti social on a good day.  She’s in the same Campus Home that the football team resides in as well.  She can’t escape her life. After her long distance boyfriend breaks up with her, she is determined to try to fit in and pave her own path.

Mark Bishop is finishing out his senior year quite differently.  Rather than being the starting quarterback, the new coach has moved him to playing tight end.  He’s not overly sure about the position but at least he’s starting.  His natural athletic ability and love for the game is all that matters.  After his senior year he will be done with football.  He will take his place in his family’s wealthy world.

He befriends the coach’s daughter and it leads his senior year down a new path.  The friendship is tested by the sexual tension that lies beneath the surface.  She is also forbidden territory.

Montana is testing her new independence and isn’t making the best decisions.  Rather than trying to find a nice guy to hang out with, she’s flirting with the wrong kind of guys.  She’s attracted to Mark Bishop and knows he’s off limits.  She can’t keep herself away from the sexy football player.

Montana’s mistakes and relationship with Mark turn into something much bigger than either anticipated.  Some of her mistakes could endanger her father’s position as coach and hurt the football program.  When she finally makes the right choice, fate steps in and changes the path once again.

Mark and Montana are going to be tested in every way.  Both are going to struggle to find what is more important, football or love.  When it comes down to it, there isn’t really a choice.

Once again I was glued to the pages waiting to see how the Montgomery coeds survived another year at Montgomery University.  All of the dynamic characters have captured my heart.  Football isn’t the only thing happening on campus.  Love is in the air and ready to score.

The Comeback

Montgomery University Series – Book 4

0b90a-goodreads

Synopsis

Maddy Cassidy has hit her stride at Montgomery University. She has great friends, stellar grades, and sees no bumps on the road to a drama-free junior year. Classes haven’t even started when sparks fly between her and Elijah Hart, a moody Navy SEAL who’s landed in academia after a devastating battlefield experience. He’s not planning on falling for anyone until Maddy’s looks and brains start to get under his skin. Will someone as beautiful as she is be able to look past his life-changing injury? And will Elijah’s passion for Maddy be able to protect her from an unexpected danger?
**Contains plot-driven descriptive consensual sex**

5StarPlaid

Michel’s Review

Maddy Cassidy could care less about football.  She is there for the academics, a degree in  physics.  Her social life doesn’t revolve around the football team like her roommate Josie Savage.  She’s really not interested in dating.  She just wants to complete her junior year with stellar grades.

Junior year is starting out quite differently than expected.  One of her former roommates has moved on to become an exchange student in London.  Their new roommate Nella, an exchange student from London, is annoying. To top it off, her first encounter with one of the other students at the swimming pool has left her seething.  Not a good start.

Elijah Hart is at Montgomery University, as a guest professor, after he was severely injured. His career as a Navy Seal has ended quite differently than he thought it would.  He’s grateful he’s alive after losing his leg.  Fate has stepped in and landed him at the same university as Josie Savage.  Their torrid vacation affair turned into a close friendship.

He was shocked when the sexy coed he insulted at the pool is none other than one of Josie’s roommate.  He finds Maddy intriguing.  He wants to get to know her better.  He didn’t count on the complications that come from Maddy and Josie’s history.  He’s willing to do anything to get Maddy in his bed and in his life.

Life at Montgomery University is anything but boring.  Maddy has become this season’s poster girl for the football team.  One the players is head over heels in love with her.  She’s not attracted to him, she’s attracted to the new sexy, egotistical professor.

As Elijah and Maddy’s relationship heats up, so does her notoriety.  She is  trying to dissuade a volatile football player attentions, repair her friendship with Josie, learn to tolerate Nella, and keep her grades up.  She’s under pressure.

The pressure escalates as her relationship with Elijah becomes more solid.  What neither of them anticipated was a very dangerous stalker determined to have Maddy for himself.

It’s a life or death situation.  Elijah may be a former Navy Seal but it may not be enough to save Maddy.

I could not put this book down.  This book turned into a pure romantic suspense novel that had me on the edge of my seat with my heart racing a mile a minute.  Kathryn Renard found her niche writing this book.  It was fantastic. I am looking forward to more from this dynamic author. Her writing talent is blossoming.

Excerpt

Not gonna lie, watching my girl operate that car like a driving master was as exhilarating as it was hot. She drove for about thirty minutes before we wound up on some country ass back road, at which point I figured out she’d still been holding back. Once we were out on the open road, she drove like the car was an extension of her. As fast as she was going, I never once felt like I wasn’t safe or she wasn’t in total control. The faster she drove, the harder I got. Daisy was lightning in a goddamn bottle.

When we’d gone at least ten miles on the back road without seeing anything but trees and a few cows, I asked her to pull over. Even that she made into something wild, slamming on the brakes and executing a perfect three hundred and sixty degree turn before coming to a dead stop. She grinned over at me proudly before pulling over to the side of the road and putting the car in park.

“Nerves getting to you?” she teased.

I shook my head as I leaned over, cupped the back of her head and kissed her like a madman. We were all teeth and tongue, the kiss damn near brutal we were both so desperate. She pulled away just long enough to turn off the engine and unhook her seatbelt. As soon as she was finished, she went back to kissing me and started clawing at my jeans, rubbing her hand over my cock as I groaned into her mouth.

After a few desperate minutes of kissing me wildly, she ended it and took total control. I gave it up without a peep as she first unhooked my seatbelt and then unzipped my pants. When she got my cock out, she licked her lips before getting on her knees in her seat and bending over the console to take me in her mouth. The hot wet heat of the inside of her mouth was fucking everything.

It took some doing as far as maneuvering went, but I managed to get my arm out so I could grab the hem of her skirt to pull it up over her ass. She moaned around my dick as I slid my hand into her bikini panties.

I growled low in my throat as my fingers slid over her wet heat. The undeniable proof that my girl liked to suck cock was a serious turn on. I’d never realized how fuckin’ hot it would be to have a woman get off on having a mouth full of dick.

Her position over the console had to be uncomfortable but she didn’t seem to give one bit of a fuck. She slurped and sucked at my dick like it housed an elixir she desperately needed and her fingernails scraping gently over my balls made me want to fuck her into oblivion. As she was giving a blowjob for the ages I was busy rubbing her clit, loving how wet she was making my fingers. When she popped her head off my cock and sat up, I growled low in my throat.

“Get on my dick,” I ordered.

But while she might be confident in every other area of her life, she’s carting around a full set of baggage when it comes to sex and seduction. If she wants to get her crush’s attention, she’ll have to step out of her comfort zone and make him take notice…even if it means tutoring the annoying, childish, cocky captain of the hockey team in exchange for a pretend date.

…and it’s going to be oh so good

All Garrett Graham has ever wanted is to play professional hockey after graduation, but his plummeting GPA is threatening everything he’s worked so hard for. If helping a sarcastic brunette make another guy jealous will help him secure his position on the team, he’s all for it. But when one unexpected kiss leads to the wildest sex of both their lives, it doesn’t take long for Garrett to realize that pretend isn’t going to cut it. Now he just has to convince Hannah that the man she wants looks a lot like him.

book blurb

From the USA Today Bestselling Authors, A.M. Hargrove and Terri E. Laine comes a new standalone sexy sports romance, Sidelined – A Wilde Players Dirty Romance.

Cassidy

I hate him… I love him… He destroyed me… and now He needs me.

Fletcher Wilde, a gorgeous quarterback in the NFL, is the man I should have married. He’s is the one that walked away, choosing football over me. He shouldn’t be back, especially not looking that good. And not sitting in my waiting room chair with a bum leg and confident cocky grin that sets my insides on fire.

It’s impossible to forget how he rocked my world both in and out of the bedroom. Keeping things professional won’t be easy, especially given our history. My mission, however, is getting him back on the field—the place he loved more than me, while not losing myself in him all over again.

Fletcher

Cassidy Miller is the only physical therapist in town. And after a potential career ending injury, she’s my ticket back on the field or my NFL career is over. Unfortunately, she’s the same Cassidy who ripped my heart to shreds when I thought we were a team.

Sexy and intelligent, she’s the last person I thought I’d see again. As it turns out, she looks better than ever, making me want that smart mouth of hers doing things to me that would drive a sane man crazy.

Lucky for me, my determination is legendary. Winning is in my blood, which makes me number one on the field. Being a single-minded man, my focus is to get her back and this time for good.

excerpt

“Can we start from scratch? Like this whole night?” I ask.

“What do you mean?”

A frustrated sigh leaves me. “I don’t want it to be like this between us.”

I expect a snappy response, but that’s not what I get. “I don’t really either. But after you dumped me—”

What is she saying? “I didn’t dump you. I had to leave to go with the pros.”

She looks at me like she wants to say duh.

“Yeah, you dumped me for the pros.”

My hand drives through my hair. “That’s not how it went. I had to leave, and you were supposed to come.”

That one word has me harder than I thought possible. She speaks, but I’m barely coherent to what she’s saying.

“I had to finish college. Then there was PT school, my dad, and I couldn’t possibly go.”

Reaching out, I take her wrist and pull her closer. Her eyes widen, making her look like a doe in the middle of the road. And, damn, if that doesn’t make her my prey.

The words crawl out of my mouth like a growl. “Take your clothes off and get in this tub with me.” I shut off the water and push the button to get the jets running. This is a dead-end conversation, like it will always be.

Her head shakes, sending all that hair I want to wrap around my hand flying.

“You’re crazy.”

“Maybe.” I haven’t let go of her wrist, determined to convince her to stay. “Everyone’s entitled to a little crazy.

When she doesn’t answer, I give her hand a slight tug. “Take your clothes off, Cass, and get in here.”

“I might hurt your knee.”

“Chicken.” I splash her with some water.

She jumps back, and I lose my hold on her. “Fletcher, you got me wet.”

Her eyes narrow as my grin widens. “That’s the idea.”

Michel’s Review

The football season is almost upon us.  The training camps are underway and the fans are gearing up for opening day.  Sports romance fans are also getting in the mood for some football, or should a say a hot football romance.  A. M. Hargrove and Terri E. Laine have delivered the opening football romance for the readers to devour.  First up on the players roster is Fletcher Wilde, NFL quarterback.  Are you ready for some hot passes and scoring touchdowns that will make your panties wet and your heart flutter?  Fletcher has the plays.

Fletcher Wilde has returned home to North Carolina on his season break to take care of his parents home and dogs while they are away on vacation.  Nothing ever happens in this sleepy small town and it’s a good rest before summer training camp.  He hasn’t been home since he signed with the NFL.

Twenty five seconds can be a game changer.  It can change the coarse of the game or change the outcome of your life.  Fletcher knows this but didn’t realize the impact until twenty five seconds changed everything.  His career is on the line and his heart is taking back his life.  A hit and run accident changed Fletcher Wilde’s life.  It brought him back to Cassidy, the only woman he has ever loved.

Cassidy Miller was devastated when Fletcher left her for the NFL.  Picking up the pieces of her broken heart was difficult.  She moved on, finished college, married, started a career, and became a business owner. On paper it looked like her life was perfect.  The fact is that she had a miserable marriage and is now divorced.  Although she is the only therapist in town, her business is struggling.  When Fletcher Wilde walks through her door for therapy, her heart is on the line.

Cassidy and Fletcher are finally going to get closure or the happily ever after they were meant to have.  They will have to deal with Fletcher’s injuries, Cassidy’s mistrust, a conniving agent, overprotective BFF, greedy team owners, and a diabolical ex husband.  Fletcher’s game for anything as long as Cassidy is his end zone.

A. M. Hargrove and Terri E. Laine have a winner with this second chance romance.  I’m looking forward to seeing what Wilde is up next the game roster.

Sidelined was the perfect, sexy sports romance to kick off the season.

The Matchmaker's Replacement Banner - Aug 9

VanDyken-TheMatchmakersReplacement-CV-FL-vC6-RGBWingman rule number two: never reveal how much you want them.

Lex hates Gabi. Gabi hates Lex. But, hey, at least the hate is mutual, right? All Lex has to do is survive the next few weeks training Gabi in all the ways of Wingmen Inc. and then he can be done with her. But now that they have to work together, the sexual tension and fighting is off the charts. He isn’t sure if he wants to strangle her or throw her against the nearest sturdy table and have his way with her.

But Gabi has a secret, something she’s keeping from not just her best friend but her nemesis too. Lines are blurred as Lex becomes less the villain she’s always painted him to be…and starts turning into something more. Gabi has always hated the way she’s been just a little bit attracted to him—no computer-science major should have that nice of a body or look that good in glasses—but “Lex Luthor” is an evil womanizer. He’s dangerous. Gabi should stay far, far away.

Then again, she’s always wanted a little danger.

Excerpt

“So,” a familiar voice said above the music. “New job?”

Damn it! “I didn’t even say your name three times!” I whined, turning around to face Lex. He was wearing a tight vintage black T-shirt with low-slung jeans on his hips and the ever-present sex-oozing smile.

“Three times?” He smiled wider. “You said my name three times out loud? Is it your new curse word? You know, like ‘Oh, Lex! Good Lex! Mighty Lex . . .’” His eyebrows drew together. “Somehow all of those sound like very familiar noises women make in my presence.”

“Die, Lex,” I said in an annoyed tone. “How about that one?”

“That’s new.” He snapped his fingers. “But it’s growing on me. Maybe it’s the way you say it, like you want me to die in your arms all Romeo and Juliet style . . .”

“Wow, ten at night and you’re already wasted.” I slapped him on the shoulder. “Take a cab.” I tried to move past him, but he grabbed my wrist and pulled me back, pressing us together. Whether it was on purpose or not I wasn’t sure, but he was warm.

And he felt . . . safe, familiar. My body was playing tricks on me; it was because I was vulnerable.

Like that night when . . .

I locked down my memories, especially that one, and threw away the key. “Lex, what do you want?”

“You,” he said in a serious tone. “Now get up on stage and take off your clothes. I paid for a show.”

I rolled my eyes. “Waitress, Lex. You’ll have to call one of the many numbers on your phone to get a free lap dance.”

“What if I pay?” His breath tickled my ear as my eyes burned with unshed tears. Normally, I wouldn’t let what he did affect me. Normally, I brushed him off, but my armor had already been stripped. Call it exhaustion or maybe just the last remnants of pride I had toppling to the floor.

But I couldn’t hold them in any longer.

One tear fell.

Then another.

I tried to wipe them, tried to jerk free from Lex’s strong arms, but he turned me so abruptly that all I managed to do was soak the front of his shirt with my tears and smear it with mascara.

“Gabs?” His voice rasped as he hugged me tighter. “Come on, we’re going.”

“No.” Panic surged through me as I tried to pull away. “You don’t understand!” I’d given the last of my paychecks to my mom so she could pay the bills at the house, leaving me completely broke for this week’s rent check. I was hoping to make enough money in tips for the rent.

Lex’s eyes crinkled at the sides as he took one look at me and the rest of the seedy bar. I knew what he saw: girls dancing on poles, guys getting drunk and shouting at the girls while they threw dollar bills onto the stage, and a scared, stupid girl clinging to him like her lifeline.

Finally, he released me. “Gabs, I’m sorry, I was joking. We always—” He licked his lips and glanced down at the filthy floor, cursing. “Where’s the money going?”

“Money?”

“New girl!” Dean, my boss, never called me by name, the idiot. “You working or flirting? If he wants time with you, he’s gotta pay.”

“Still a waitress?” Lex’s eyebrows shot up.

I held up my fingers to indicate I needed a few more seconds, but Dean was apparently in a mood and stomped over to us.

“Problem?” he asked, crossing his arms over his skinny chest. The guy was small; Lex could probably break his face blindfolded.

“Yeah,” Lex said, surprising me. “Your waitress just refused to dance with me because you guys are out of private rooms . . . so.”

Dean’s eyes narrowed. “You her boyfriend?”

“Do I look like a man who wants to commit to crazy?” Lex fired back. “But I do have this . . .” He reached into his back pocket and pulled out what looked like at least six hundred dollars in cash. “How long will that get me with your waitress?”

Dean’s eyebrows kissed his hairline as he sputtered out, “At least three hours.”

“I’ll add in another six hundred if I can have table service and a private room, no interruptions.”

“Done.” Dean snapped his fingers above his head as one of his security guards came barreling over. “Please take them to the Diamond Room, no interruptions. Stand outside the door. One waitress goes in and out to provide drinks.”

The security guard nodded.

And five minutes later I was stuck in a personal nightmare. A bottle of champagne rested on ice; two glasses were left on the table. Music pumped through the speaker system. A small stage was set up in the middle of the room, with two poles and some sort of swing that dropped down from the ceiling. I seriously didn’t even want to know what it was for.

“That will be all,” Lex said in a gruff tone. The waitress—I think her name was Holly—bobbed her head, then looked at me out of the corners of her eyes as if scared to leave me alone with the giant.

“It’s fine.” I waved her off and forced a smile.

The door closed.

“Stop pacing.” Lex grabbed a bottle of champagne. “And that ass better give you part of that money . . .”

“Huh?” I turned. Lex had his feet up on the table and was texting. TEXTING!

He glanced up. “What? Something wrong?”

“Uh . . .” I lifted my arms into the air. “You sick bastard, you just paid for private dancing! From me!”

“No I didn’t,” he said calmly. “Nobody knows what goes on in here. Take a nap for all I care, drink some champagne—or you can shock the hell out of me and cry again, but fair warning, I only had one hug in me tonight and you stole it, so . . . I’ll be reverting to the back pat.”

“Who are you?”

“Lex Luthor, philanthropist by day and rescuer of hot waitresses by night.” He smirked and held up the bottle. “Champagne?”

“Unbelievable.” I choked out a laugh. “You just paid over one grand to sit in a crappy club and drink champagne with someone you hate.”

“It’s my good deed for the decade. Just don’t tell Ian. He’ll think I’m sick or something, and the last thing I need is Mother Hen helicoptering around my inner sanctum. He’ll get pissed all over again if he finds out that I’m hacking.”

My skin felt sticky and sweaty, and my feet ached. With slow movements, I made my way over to the couch and sat, not even wanting to know how many germs were on the leather.

“So,” Lex said above the music. “Champagne? Or want me to order you something else?”

“Champagne’s good.” I swallowed and looked down at my hands. “I’m sorry I cried.”

“As you should be. Big girls don’t cry . . . they kick ass. Don’t freak me out like that again, it’s not good for my heart.”

“Finally admitting you have one?”

Lex spread his arms wide. “Clearly, otherwise you’d still be waiting tables.”

“Or dancing,” I muttered.

“Hah.” Lex laughed, actually laughed as if it was funny. “No offense, Gabs, but you’re not like those girls on stage. You can’t . . . you just can’t.”

“I can’t?” Why the hell was I getting offended? “What do you mean I can’t?”

Lex laughed harder. “Gabs, look, there’s nothing wrong with being innocent. Lots of guys dig a girl who has fields that have never been touched, watered, planted, plowed—”

I held up my hand. “I get it.”

“But those types of girls, the good girls, the ones who’ve never been . . .” He smirked. “Conquered? They don’t typically know how to use their bodies in a way that mimics sex on stage. Get it?”

“No.” I crossed my arms. “I don’t get it! Dancing is dancing! A two-year-old can do it!”

“Bad example, bad mental picture all around, Gabs, again solidifying my point. Good girls don’t dance, not like that.” When I didn’t say anything, he added, “Embrace your goodness, don’t get pissed. It’s a compliment.”

“The hell it is!”

“Damn, I love it when you swear,” Lex murmured, taking a long draw of champagne. “See, at least you do that right.”

“I can’t last in here for three hours,” I muttered, jumping to my feet and starting my pacing all over again.

“Want to play games on my cell phone?”

“Like a child!” I blurted. “That’s it! You’re treating me like I’m . . . a toddler! Like I should be thankful you just saved me from hell. Be honest: if you had a sticker and a sucker, would you give them to me if I shut my mouth the entire time?”

Lex gave me a guilty look.

“I’m a woman!”

“Well, if you were a dude, we’d be having a different conversation and you probably would have punched the guys grabbing your ass earlier . . .”

Without thinking, I grabbed my glass of champagne, chugged it, poured another, chugged that one, then with shaky hands grabbed the little remote, turned up the music, and jumped on stage.

I expected Lex to say something inappropriate or at least roll his eyes. Instead, he looked . . . panicked.

“Gabs!” he yelled above the music. “Look, I’m sorry! Just get down!!”

“Oh, I’ll get down!” I grabbed the pole with one hand and leaned back. “Just wait.”

An Ada Palomino Story – Book 1

By Karina Halle

Veiled AMAZONFrom the New York Times bestselling author of The Lie and The Pact comes a new romance that will test your limits and leave you breathless.

Death.

It’s something that Ada Palomino has always known so well, having grown up in a house of horrors, surrounded by a family plagued by ghosts and demons and things that go bump in the night.

But after the sudden and tragic death of her mother two years ago, death has never felt so personal.

Or so close.

Now eighteen, Ada is trying to move on with her life and the last month of summer holds nothing but sunshine and promises with her first year at a Portland design school just around the bend.

That is until her increasingly violent and realistic dreams, dreams of other worlds, of portals and veils where her mother is tortured and souls bleed for mercy, start to blend into reality. Ada has to lean on her older sister, Perry, to try and make sense of it all but even then, she’s never felt more alone.

Then there’s Jay. Tall, handsome and deeply mysterious, Jay would be just another stranger, a familiar face on the bus, if it wasn’t for the fact that Ada has met him before.

Every night.

In every single dream.

And the more that Ada is drawn to him in both worlds, the more she’s in danger of losing everything.

Including her heart.

And her very soul.

Then, out of nowhere:

“You looked beautiful tonight, by the way.”

Oh jeez. Be still my fucking heart.

I try and swallow, his words, the sincerity in his voice rocking my world off-balance. “Which part? When the power went out or when Jacob went upstairs to fight a demon?” I joke. But I joke because I’m feeling this a little too much.

“All of it. You know why I call you Princess?” he asks, his tone graver than before, like he’s letting me in on a very deep secret.

“Because I’m a spoiled brat?”

“Because you’re beautiful.”

Well that shut me up. The sentence hangs in the air, larger than life.

He clears his throat and goes on and I have to fight against the urge to roll over and face him. “You have this way about you. You don’t see it. But I do. Like you’re born royalty. The way you hold yourself. Your walk. The face of an angel.”

Butterflies take flight in my gut, spreading through my veins until my whole body feels like its floating. “Why are you being so nice to me? Am I going to die?”

He laughs softly. “I don’t know why I’m saying these things. Just seemed like the things to say. You’re destined for something great, Ada, I know this. And it’s an honor to help see you through it.”

His words cascade down on me like ashes from a fire. Where they land, I’m ignited.

Jay thinks I’m beautiful.

And more than that, he believes in me.

Silence settles over us, stealing time. I hear him breathing in the dark, steady as a heartbeat. He might even be sleeping.

But I can’t even begin to shut down. My entire body, from the top of my scalp, down to my toes, is buzzing with heat and electricity. It’s like everything I felt for him before, everything I try to ignore, is coming out in full force, responding to his words, to his body so close to mine. I can feel the warmth at my back, sinking into my spine, just from his presence only.

I’m starting to have feelings for him. Not just in a he’s a giant hulking beast who’s here to protect me from the underworld way. But real feelings, slowly creeping into my heart, day by day.

The thought is terrifying in the same way that demons are terrifying.

They both might take possession of me.

They both might ruin me.

And I’m not sure how much of me I’ll have left.

Michel’s Review

I am a huge Karina Halle fan.  I started with her Experiment In Terror series several years ago.  I anxiously awaited for each new release.  It was very hard to see this series end.  The EIT series ended exactly the way it should have and left readers satisfied that Dex and Perry were going to live their happily ever after.  It also left a  character hanging in the background screaming for her own story.  Little Fifteen, otherwise known as Ada Palomino, was coming into her own.  It was clear she had inherited the gift that had been passed down through the generations of women in her family.  Little Fifteen was a bit too young to be dealing the other side.  She needed time to be a teenager, grow up, and become a woman in her own right.  She needed time to heal from the aftermath of her mother’s death.  Her family needed time to become “normal”.  Clearly to say I have been waiting for Ada to grow up is an understatement. It’s been two years since the last EIT book released.  Two years for Ada to grasp her gift.  Ada is now eighteen, ready to begin college, and more importantly ready for her gift.  Veiled is just the beginning for Ada Palomino.

For the newer fans of Karina Halle, this book is going to be quite different from her new adult and contemporary romances.  If you are not a huge fan of the paranormal genre, that’s okay.  Veiled has a romantic element to it that has only just begun.  Veiled can easily stand on it’s own merit as a paranormal romance or new adult romance ( with a touch of horror).  I think this book is going to take the newer readers by great surprise.  It’s going to open a new door in their Karina Halle world.  I can almost guarantee that many will be downloading the Experiment In Terror series ( a great paranormal / horror romance series) and The Devil’s Metal Duology ( rock star paranormal / horror romance). For the EIT fans, Veiled is a long awaited gift.

Getting to the meat of the story, Veiled is chilling, hair raising turn in Ada Palomino’s life.  Her sister Perry has moved out and married Dex ( Experiment In Terror series).  For the past two years she and her father are trying to cope with their grief and loss of her mother.  They are trying to forge a new normal in their lives after the horrors that plagued Perry’s world took their toll.  Ada is beginning to experience some bone chilling dreams that have her scared out of her wits.  These dreams are horrifically real.  Her sister Perry is also sensing Ada’s predicament.  When new neighbors move in ( Dawn and Sage from Devil’s Metal series), Ada’s world becomes more frightening. Part of their entourage is J.J. Abrams, the ridiculously hot guy Ada keeps seeing, and Jacob, a older middle aged man with a bad fashion sense.  There is something peculiar about her new neighbors.  Her new neighbors were sent because she is coming into her own, her gift is becoming stronger.  They were sent for protection, guidance, and mentoring.

Jay Abrams is Ada’s Jacob.  His mission is to protect her at all costs.  He is neither bad nor good.  He is her immortal protector with very human qualities.  His assignment is to guide her and help develop her strengths.  The depths of hell are reaching out for Ada.  They are holding her mother’s soul in prison.  She is the only one who can go through the Veil and into hell to save her mother.  She just needs to learn to use her powers before it’s too late for her mother.

Jay is a unique Jacob.  He still remembers his human life before he became a Jacob.  That life is a story onto itself that makes him even more intriguing.  He has a very strong pull to Ada that reaches beyond the normal scope of Jacob duties.  His soul is drawn to her pure beauty within.  He must deny this attraction, it could get Ada killed or damn her soul to hell.  Denying this attraction is impossible.

Ada and Jay begin an illicit forbidden relationship that nearly destroys them both.  The relationship gives evil a powerful edge.  When they are walking through hell it takes a toll on them both.  They may not survive.  If they do, they may not return the same people they were before they entered the realm.

As for the rest…and the true love story… read the book.

Karina once again did a magnificent job writing this book.  Her detailed descriptions bring the story to life.  The reader experiences the journey right along with Ada and Jay.  The detailed descriptions heighten all of the five senses and it seems like you are right there in the moment.  The love story has a life of it’s own that makes this book shine.  It leaves the readers wanting more from Ada and Jay.

At the end of the book Karina writes a very in depth view into her mind and writing world.  Reach out and let her know how Ada and Jay’s story touched you.  Hopefully their story will live on and take a new journey.

QUESTIONS ABOUT VEILED

Q: Is this YA?

A: No. The main character is 18 and there is sex, crude language and violence in the book. It is recommended for mature teens or 18 and up.

Q: Is there a cliffhanger?

A: Nope! There’s also no cheating and no love triangle (think I’ve covered the bases there!)

Q: Do I need to read the series (Experiment in Terror) that Veiled is a spinoff of first?

A: Absolutely not. Veiled stands alone. You do not need to have read the EIT series beforehand as this follows a different character (Ada Palomino) and a different storyline. However for those who have read EIT, all your favorites are in the book!

Q: Is it horror? Your other series was and I don’t handle scary very well…

A: No, it’s paranormal romance (though I promise you there are no vampires or werewolves), and while there are creepy elements to the story, it wouldn’t be classified as horror. If you can read KMM’s Fever Series or ANY urban fantasy, you’ll be fine.

Kicked

By Celia Aaron

Trent Carrington.

Trent Mr. Perfect-Has-Everyone-Fooled Carrington.

He’s the star quarterback, university scholar, and happens to be the sexiest man I’ve ever seen. He shines at any angle, and especially under the Saturday night stadium lights where I watch him from the sidelines. But I know the real him, the one who broke my heart and pretended I didn’t exist for the past two years.

I’m the third-string kicker, the only woman on the team and nothing better than a mascot. Until I’m not. Until I get my chance to earn a full scholarship and join the team as first-string. The only way I’ll make the cut is to accept help from the one man I swore to never trust again. The problem is, with each stolen glance and lingering touch, I begin to realizing that trusting Trent isn’t the problem. It’s that I can’t trust myself when I’m around him.

This is a full-length, standalone American football romance novel with hot guys in tight pants who really know how to handle their balls.

Kicked Teaser 2.jpg

A movie started playing on the back of each seat, but I focused on Cordy. Her polo was unbuttoned, and I could see the swell of her breast. My cock went from fight mode to fuck mode in the time it took me to shift more toward Cordy.

“Are we…” She nibbled her lip.

I grabbed her chin and turned her to face me. “What?”

“Are we like, together?” She stumbled over her next words, as if she couldn’t get them out fast enough. “I know it’s too early to DTR—”

“DTR?” I grinned.

“Define the relationship.” She furrowed her brow.

“Right. Well, I define it as you’re mine and I’m yours. How’s that?”

Her gaze brightened. My phone buzzed again, but I ignored it.

“Someone’s calling you.” She glanced to my pants.

“It’s my mother.”

“Oh.”

I’d told Cordy about the difficulties I had with my mom, but I didn’t go into the details of how much acrimony our relationship would stir up. Mom had no doubt seen the press conference. She would know. Mom always knew. She was waiting for me to pick up the phone so she could load me down with Carlotta’s tears, my family’s legacy, and the bright future she thought I was throwing away. I’d deal with it. Later.

I leaned close to Cordy’s ear. “Put your jacket on your lap.”

She turned to me, a wary look on her heart-shaped face. “Why?”

“It’s cold.”

“Not really.”

“You’re trembling.”

She arched a brow. “Not because I’m cold.”

“Then why?”

“Because you—” She seemed to rethink her answer and, instead of responding, pulled her jacket into her lap as I’d requested.

“Good. My hands are cold.” I slid my palm along her thigh beneath the jacket.

She jumped and looked at me with a scandalized expression. “Trent!” She hissed through clenched teeth.

“What?” I pressed my fingers higher until I reached the apex of her thighs, then I eased my hand between her legs.

“We can’t do this here.” She glanced around, but no one could see us in the dark, and if anyone was looking, all they’d see was us sitting together and Cordy’s jacket in her lap.

I rubbed my index finger along the seam of her jeans over her clit. “We can.”

She gripped my wrist, but I didn’t stop. Her breathing grew faster as I stroked her. My cock demanded reciprocity, but it would have to wait. I wanted to pleasure her more than anything. When her lips parted, I knew I had her.

I pressed my lips to her ear. “Unbutton your jeans, and unzip them.”

She tilted her hips forward and did as I’d said.

“You’ll have to be quiet.” I ran my fingers along her quivering stomach and she let out a small sound.

4.5 Star

Michel’s Review

I have to give kudos to Celia Aaron, she brought college football to life.  I was impressed with the fact that her “football star” was a female.  Celia Aaron’s knowledge of the game, tenacious research of the kicker position, and blow by blow descriptive plays made the book come alive.   The relationship between Cordie and Trent was the perfect push and pull kind of relationship readers look for in a new adult romance.

Cordie and Trent have a history.  They were skirting on a relationship two years prior to becoming teammates on the football team.  It was the typical rich boy and poor girl issues that kept them apart.  Cordie and Trent both walked away broken hearted.

Cordie is the first female kicker in college history.  She became the third string kicker to appease the equal opportunity regulation in college sports.  Her first love is soccer but personal finances have forced her to accept a partial scholarship in football.  It doesn’t matter because she is the MAV (Mascot With A Vagina ) rather than a valued player.  Fate has a way of stepping in and changing the rules of the game.  The first string kicker is injured and out for the season.  The first string kicker position is open and the team is holding walk on try outs.  This is an opportunity for Cordie to show her stuff and get a full time scholarship.  Trent volunteers to help her win this position.  He is going to train her and make her the strongest contender in the try outs.

Trent has ulterior motives.  It’s his second chance with Cordie.  He knows he screwed up two years ago.  He wants to make things right and make Cordie his own.

Cordie and Trent not only have to deal with the demands of the football team but also have to deal with every obstacle blocking their relationship.  There are so many obstacles coming in so many different directions.  They are going to have to fight for their love.

Kicked was very entertaining and put me in the mood for football season.  Celia Aaron did a stellar job writing this book.
