Blurb
They told him she was dead. They lied…
Colonel John “Viper” Mendez is having the second-worst day
of his life. Accused of using the Hostile Operations Team to assassinate a
foreign official, he’s gone from being a respected military black-ops commander
to a fugitive in the space of an hour. On the run, hunted, and stripped of his
honor, Mendez has nowhere to go—and few people he can trust.
Russian spy Ekaterina “Kat” Kasharin is a carbon copy of the
woman Mendez once loved. Twenty-one years ago, Valentina vanished from his
life. Kat claims to be her twin—but Kat’s lying. Ordered by her superiors in
Russian Intelligence to abandon the man she loved—or watch him die—Kat had no
choice but to obey.
But twenty-one years is a long time to love a man from afar,
and Kat won’t stand by as a traitor plans his death—even if it means risking
her heart and her life to save him. She can never reveal her true identity—or
the secrets she keeps locked away. Secrets he would hate her for. Working with
him is strictly business, and she won’t let emotions get in the way. But the
attraction between them is smoking hot—and it’s not long before they’re burning
up the sheets.
When the truth comes out, the mission implodes. Everything
Mendez thought he knew was a lie. He’ll have to pull it together though before
a deadly foe succeeds in taking away all he loves. By the time he realizes Kat
might be most important of all? It could be too late to save her…

Katya had dropped her backpack and fished out guns and
ammunition. She was currently checking her weapons. She looked up at him, one
delicate eyebrow arching. Her beauty was a grenade to his brain. A lightning
rod to his cock. He wanted to fuck her and it pissed him off. He’d been with
her less than eight hours and he wanted to strip her naked and make her scream
his name.
He hadn’t had sex in months now, not since he’d broken it
off with Sam. He wasn’t the kind of man who could walk into a bar and pick up a
woman for a night of casual sex. At his rank, and with his job, it wasn’t wise.
Foreign governments sent spies for just such occasions. Seduce the commanders,
get information. Happened all the time, even though it seemed like a plot out
of a bad spy movie. He’d seen it more than once. Idiots who should know better
had their heads turned by free pussy—and lost their careers over it.
Therefore, he did not fuck around lightly. Even when the
sexual drought took its toll and he was so sick to death of his hand he
couldn’t even work up the enthusiasm to jerk himself off.
“Where did you find this place?” Katya asked.
He dragged his brain back from the brink of a full-blown
waking fantasy. He’d been about to undress her and see if she tasted as hot as
she looked. See if she had a fucking scar on her left thigh. He still wasn’t
convinced that she didn’t.
Safer for her if she didn’t. Safer for him, too. Because
he’d go fucking ballistic if she had that scar. If she was Valentina instead of
an identical twin. He couldn’t even imagine what kind of person she’d have to
be to lie for twenty-one years. To let him think she was dead and buried.
“We’re safe here, don’t worry,” he said roughly.
“That’s what I thought at the other place. Turns out it
wasn’t true.”
“We won’t be here long.”
She shot him a questioning look. “Really? Where are we
going?”
“You’ll know when we get there.”

New Release + 5 Star Review: Some Kind Of Hero by Suzanne Brockmann – The Troubleshooters Series – Book 19

Some Kind Of Hero

Troubleshooters Series – Book 19

By Suzanne Brockmann

Buy: Amazon / B & N / IBooks / Kobo

Synopsis

The Troubleshooters return in the latest thriller from New York Times bestselling author Suzanne Brockmann! Some Kind of Hero showcases Brockmann’s signature white-knuckle suspense, romantic twists, and sexy Navy SEALs.

Navy men don’t come tougher than Lieutenant Peter Greene. Every day he whips hotshot SEAL wannabes into elite fighters. So why can’t he handle one fifteen-year-old girl? His ex’s death left him a single dad overnight, and very unprepared. Though he can’t relate to an angsty teen, he can at least keep Maddie safe—until the day she disappears. Though Pete’s lacking in fatherly intuition, his instinct for detecting danger is razor sharp. Maddie’s in trouble. Now he needs the Troubleshooters team at his back, along with an unconventional ally.

Romance writer Shayla Whitman never expected to be drawn into a real-world thriller—or to meet a hero who makes her pulse pound. Action on the page is one thing. Actually living it is another story. Shay’s not as bold as her heroines, but she’s a mother. She sees the panic in her new neighbor’s usually fearless blue eyes—and knows there’s no greater terror for a parent than having a child at risk. It’s an ordeal Shay won’t let Pete face alone. She’s no highly trained operative, but she’s smart, resourceful, and knows what makes teenagers tick.

Still, working alongside Pete has its own perils—like letting the heat between them rise out of control. Intimate emotions could mean dangerous, even deadly, consequences for their mission. No matter what, they must be on top of their game, and playing for keeps . . . or else Pete’s daughter may be gone for good.

Michel’s Review

It’s hard to believe that the nineteenth book in the Troubleshooters Series by Suzanne Brockmann has released.  I can remember reading the first Troubleshooters book in June of 2000 while awaiting the birth of my youngest child.  As I sat by the swimming pool reading Unsung Hero, hopelessly trying to avoid my three year old splashing water on the pages, I fell head over heels in love with Tom Paoletti like I did with Joe Catalanotto in Prince Joe in 1996. I was already addicted to the Tall, Dark & Dangerous series and loved her style of writing.  Her fast paced, high octane Navy Seals characters captured my attention and are still holding me captive twenty years later.  Suzanne Brockmann is the queen of romantic suspense.

Lieutenant Peter Greene may be one of the toughest Seals in the Navy.  He has faced some of the most dangerous, life threatening situations and not broke a sweat.  He instills fear in the recruits at BUDD training and commands them with an iron fist.  When it comes to his fifteen year old daughter, he’s clueless.  He hasn’t figured out the parenting job or the teenage drama and angst.  Being a single father is harder than going through BUDD’s training.  Learning to communicate rather than command is like translating an encrypted code.  What makes it all the more difficult is he’s doing it alone without any guides or manuals.  He’s suddenly thrust into the parenting role after the sudden death of his ex wife (and yes… there’s a whole other story there that will put at your heartstrings).  When his defiant daughter turns up missing from school the only thing he can do is go in Navy Seal mode and treat it like a mission.  He doesn’t have a clue where to start or what to look for until he meets his sexy neighbor, Shayla Whitman.  Shayla Whitman is going to teach him a new way to approach the mission, she’s going to teach him the romantic suspense writer way and the seasoned teenage parent way. Lieutenant Peter Greene is on more than a mission against the bad guys, he’s finally learning about life, love, family, and parenting.

Shayla Whitman is a New York Times bestselling romantic suspense writer who has been suffering from writers block for the past two years.  When she stumbles upon her sexy Navy Seal neighbor wandering the high school street little does she know her offer to give him a ride is going to take her on a real adventure like her novels.  Lt. Peter Greene may be a real life hero but he is clueless when it comes to teenagers, social media, and matters of the heart.  Being a mother of two teenage boys, she understands his panic and fears.  She will do anything to help him.  Even though she has no clue how to handle the dangers, her characters are helping her out, they are talking to her in her head and making the whole situation comical.

Shayla and Peter are on a mission against time.  His daughter is a target for one of the biggest drug dealers in the area.  With the help of some of Peter’s Troubleshooter pals, the John Squad, Shayla’s outspoken characters, and good old fashion parenting instincts, Peter and Shayla are going to find more than a missing teenage daughter.  They are both going to find the happiness they never thought they could have.

Suzanne Brockmann once again had me on the edge of my seat with this sexy, intense thriller.  Being a parent of two teenagers I could easily relate to all the emotions and angst delivered in this book.  Being a long time fan of this series, I was thrilled to see many of the beloved characters grace the pages once again.  The Troubleshooters Series will never become obsolete or outdated because Suzanne Brockmann captures the very essence and heart of the true Navy Seals.  She gives these extraordinary heroes ordinary flaws and emotional situations that make them true heroes of the heart.

I highly recommend reading Some Kind Of Hero by Suzanne Brockmann.  It can be read as a stand alone novel or in series order, either way the reader is in for an action packed, romantic adventure.

_______________________________________________

After childhood plans to become the captain of a starship didn’t pan out, Suzanne Brockmann took her fascination with military history, her respect for the men and women who serve, her reverence for diversity, and her love of storytelling, and explored brave new worlds as a bestselling romance author. Over the past twenty-five years she has written more than fifty-five novels, including her award-winning Troubleshooters series about Navy SEAL heroes and the women—and sometimes men—who win their hearts.

Her personal favorite is the one where her most popular character, gay FBI agent Jules Cassidy, wins his happily-ever-after and marries the man of his dreams. Called All Through the Night, this was the first mainstream romance novel with a hero and a hero to hit the New York Times hardcover fiction bestseller list. In 2007, Suz donated all of her earnings from this book, in perpetuity, to MassEquality, to help win and preserve equal marriage rights in Massachusetts.

Since her explosion onto the publishing scene all those years ago, Suz has become widely recognized as one of the leading voices in romantic suspense. Her work has earned her repeated appearances on the USA Today and New York Times bestseller lists, as well as numerous awards, including Romance Writers of America’s #1 Favorite Book of the Year (three years running), two RITA Awards, and many Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice Awards.

Married to author and screenwriter Ed Gaffney, Suz divides her time between Framingham, Massachusetts and Sarasota, Florida.

She has two grown children, Melanie, who is a personal trainer and novelist, and Jason, who is an actor, producer, screenwriter and novelist. Suz also has two miniature schnauzers, C.K. Dexter-Haven and Little Joe, both of whom (unlike Mel and Jason) still live at home.

In addition to writing books, Suz has co-produced several feature-length indie movies, the rom-com The Perfect Wedding, which she co-wrote with Ed and Jason, and the upcoming thriller Russian Doll. She has also co-written the Night Sky series of YA paranormals with Melanie, and created a line of m/m category romantic comedy novellas called Suzanne Brockmann Presents.

Exclusive Excerpt:

Colt banged his fist against the door, fear and the smallest bit of hope punching through him. “Answer the fucking door,” he snarled. “Open, or I kick it in.”

“Maybe you should take it down a notch.” Next to him, Brooks shoved an agitated hand through his hair, his Stetson held loosely at his side.

“And maybe you should be freaking out more.” One of their best friends had been holed up in his home for weeks, refusing to talk to anyone, to see anyone. Colt didn’t know exactly what his friend was going through, but he’d lost a lot of damn friends in the sandbox and the only woman he’d ever loved had died too. Something he couldn’t think about right now. He couldn’t focus on his own pain when he could help his friend, when he had a damn purpose.

Mercer had recently lost his wife, and the man wasn’t handling it. The guy had been in love with Mary Grace since he was fifteen. They’d been each other’s world. And two months ago she’d been killed in Mexico, a victim of cartel violence. Allegedly.

Colt hadn’t been in love with Skye since he was a kid, but eight months with her sure felt like a lifetime. Hell, when she died it felt like he’d lost part of himself. The only part that mattered. He had to force himself out of bed every day, to shove back the emptiness. So on one level, he understood how Mercer felt. He shoved that thought right back inside where it belonged and ignored it. He couldn’t fix his own problem, but he could help out Mercer.

Panic swelled through Colt as the seconds ticked by without any response from inside—until he heard cursing on the other side of the door. Good. If his friend was cursing, he was alive. A solid minute later the lock snicked loudly as it twisted open.

Colt grabbed the handle and shoved it open, pushing past his best friend in case he tried to slam the door closed in his face.

Mercer, wearing boxers and nothing else, had grown a full black beard and his dark eyes were glassy. “What the hell are you doing here this early?”

“First, it’s two o’clock in the afternoon. Second…” Colt hauled off and punched him right in the nose. He needed to wake Mercer the hell up. Violence was pretty much the only way to do that now.

“Ah, hell,” Brooks muttered as Mercer flew back and fell on his ass with a grunt.

He held a hand to his nose, looking more alert than he had in two months as he glared up at Colt and Brooks. “What the hell, man?” His voice was muffled as he tried to stop the bleeding.

“I believe this is called an intervention,” Colt said, stepping into the foyer, cringing at the stench. “God, it smells like old pizza and cow crap in here. Mary Grace would kick your ass if she saw you living like this.”

“Don’t say her name!” Mercer shoved to his feet, letting his hand drop. Blood dripped down his face as he snarled at Colt. His teeth were toothpaste commercial white against his dark brown skin. Right now he looked like a rabid wolf baring his teeth at them.

“I’ll say her name if I want.” Yeah, he knew he was being harsh, but this was what Mercer needed. He needed to feel something, to wake the hell up. And making Mercer angry was the only way Colt knew how. Because the guy sure wasn’t going to talk about his fucking feelings. He needed to get out of this rabbit hole he’d let himself fall into. “We all lost her. Every single one of us.”

Most days Colt couldn’t believe she was gone. They’d all grown up together, and in his case, he’d been friends with Mary Grace since they were five years old. She was like a sister to Colt. Hell, he was still holding on to the hope that she wasn’t actually gone. It was why he was about to get on a plane in two hours and see if the tip he’d received was right. But first he had to make sure one of his best friends didn’t do something stupid while he was gone.

“Mary Grace.”

“Ah, hell,” Brooks said again, clearly not going to intervene. Just muttering his standard curse.

“Fuck you,” Mercer snapped, taking a step toward Colt.

That was it. Get angry, he silently willed his childhood friend. Mercer needed anger to replace the grief. God, or at least mute it. Just for a week. That was all Colt needed. Because if Mary Grace was alive, he was bringing her home to his best friend. He just couldn’t give Mercer the hope she was alive. Because if he did and it turned out she wasn’t… It would destroy him. “Mary. Grace.”

Mercer rushed at him like a bull.

5 Star Review + Excerpt: Amnesia by Cambria Hebert

Amnesia
Cambria Hebert
Publication date: June 12th 2017
Genres: Adult, Romance, Suspense

I washed ashore in a little lake town.
A place where everyone knows everyone, yet…
No one knows me.
I don’t know me.
If a woman doesn’t know her own name, does she really exist?
I don’t know my natural hair color, my birthdate, or where I live.
I am invisible.
To everyone, to everything, even to myself.
Except to him.
I see the recognition deep in his stare, the way it lingers on my face as if I’m a puzzle he’s desperate to put together.
I just want answers, the truth… knowledge.
His lips are sealed. Still, his eyes beguile me.
I can’t trust anyone, not even myself. Someone wants me dead, the same someone who tried to bury me in a watery grave.
They’ll come for me again… I won’t know their face.
I don’t even know mine.
I am amnesia.

EXCERPT:

Slivers of light pricked my eyelids, which up until this moment seemed far too heavy to lift. As I lay against something soft at my back, thought and awareness barely registered.

The gritty feeling as I struggled to raise my eyelids scraped and burned over my eyeballs as if warning me it wasn’t a good idea. Swallowing past the sandpaper in my throat, I stopped working and lay still. Cognizance slowly came forward in the form of something weighing me down and the echo of footsteps nearby.

Adrenaline jackknifed through me, and my body arched upward with the force of my gasp. The weight of whatever held me caused severe panic to fill me, and I began to fight against it.

“No!” I screamed, flailing about, trying to escape the binds. “Let me go!”

High-pitched beeping filled my ears, and the footsteps I’d heard grew more insistent and much closer.

He was coming!

“No!” I screamed.

Strong hands grabbed my arms and pinned me down. I tried to fight back, but they were much stronger than me. Kicking my legs, I tried to free them, but even more weight came down, holding them still until I was gasping for breath and ready to beg.

“Please!” I pleaded as wetness coated my cheeks. It made me realize the grittiness under my lids was rinsed away, and my eyes sprang open.

A man was leaning over me. He had graying hair and wore some kind of white shirt. The scream that ripped right out of me scared us both.

More hands and voices came out of nowhere, and I thrashed around again.

“Miss!” the man yelled. “Miss, calm down.”

“Get away from me!” I screamed again.

“Miss!” another voice yelled, a woman this time. Turning in her direction, I saw a pair of kind brown eyes staring at me. “We aren’t trying to hurt you.”

I calmed some, but the thundering of my heart made me feel as if I might spiral out of control. “You aren’t?”

“No.” The woman, who was also dressed in white, spoke. “You’re at a hospital. You were in an accident.”

“W-what?” I stammered, collapsing back against the bed, no longer straining against the binds.

“You’re at a hospital.”

“You’re trying to hold me down!” I accused.

“We don’t want you to hurt yourself.” the woman explained. The hands, even the man’s, remained.

“I don’t like it,” I admitted, recoiling.

The man straightened, stepping back. The nurse was slower to withdraw, but she did so after a few seconds.

“My legs,” I rasped. Suddenly, my throat hurt.

“It’s just the blankets.”

A quick glance down proved I was covered with blankets. Between suspicious glances at the people crowding my room (there were four), I gazed around, concluding I was in fact in a hospital.

“I don’t understand,” I admitted, all my weight pressing into the bed.

“It’s okay,” the man replied. He was a doctor, with a name badge and a stethoscope. “It’s completely normal and expected to be confused after the ordeal you’ve been through.”

“What ordeal?” I asked instantly, anxiety pressing in on my ribcage.

“We were hoping you could tell us,” the doctor said.

“What?” My brows furrowed.

The nurse leaned close, over the side of the bed. I noticed the railings were pulled up on each side. It made me feel as if I were in jail. Instantly, I hated it and began shoving at the bars, trying to push them down.

“Okay, hang on,” the nurse said and put the rails down. Once it was done, she pinned me with an insistent stare. “You have to stay still. You can’t thrash around. You’ll rip out your IV and reinjure yourself.”

“What happened to me?” I asked for what felt like the fifteenth time. I looked around at the four people in the room, hoping one of them would just spit it out.

The doctor motioned to two of the nurses and then quietly left the room.

I glanced back at the nurse. “Can you tell us your name?” she asked.

“My name?” I nodded once, then opened my mouth… only nothing came out.

Anxiety spiked in me again; I started to become agitated. “I… don’t know.”

“Calm down.” The nurse reminded me.

How dare she tell me to calm down? I couldn’t even remember my name.

Oh my God, I didn’t know my own name!

“I don’t remember!” I gasped, jerking up into a sitting position. “Why can’t I remember?”

Before I could fling the covers off and jump out of bed, the doctor was there, pinning me back down. “If you don’t calm down, we’ll have to sedate you. I don’t want to do that. You’ve been out long enough.”

I stilled. “How long?”

“A while.” The nurse hedged.

I ignored her. She was terrible with questions. “How long?” I demanded.

“A little over two months,” the doctor replied.

I gasped. “What’s my name?” I yelled.

I’d been here for two months and they were asking for my name? Shouldn’t they know it?

The doctor wasn’t looking at me; he was looking at the nurse, giving her a curt nod. She rushed out of the room.

“No!” I shouted. “No drugs! Please! Tell me my name. I just want to know my name.”

“You need to calm down. You’ve had a great deal of trauma, miss.”

I dropped back against the pillow, boneless. He called me miss. “You don’t know my name, do you?” I asked, meek.

Sensing all my energy was drained away, he moved back. A frown pulled at his lips. “You were brought in with no identification.” He began.

Fear unlike anything I’d ever felt wrapped around my heart and squeezed. I searched every corner of my mind for something. Anything.

There was nothing.

“I don’t remember…” I whispered.

The doctor seemed to soften. “I know this must be very scary, to wake up and be so disoriented.”

I laughed, but it wasn’t a humorous sound. I wished I were disoriented right then.

“You’ve been through a lot. Give it a few days. Now that you’re awake, your mind will catch up and you will remember.”

“I will?” I asked.

“There’s a good chance.”

Disappointment speared me. “If I don’t?”

“Let’s take it one day at a time.” He placated me.

“Easy for you to say. You know your name.”

A ghost of a smile appeared on his face. “Time.” He reminded me.

The nurse came through the door, holding a syringe, and I cringed away.

“I don’t think we’re going to need that,” the doctor told her.

I let out an audible sigh.

He glanced around again. “Now that you’re awake, I’ll get you down for testing.”

“What kind of testing?” I asked.

“Routine stuff for someone who’s been in a coma.”

Nothing about this was routine. I was in coma… for two months. And I didn’t even know my name.

When both the nurse and doctor were gone and I was alone, my eyes overflowed with tears and a formidable feeling of dread crowded inside me. The doctor said there was “a good chance” I would remember my name very soon.

The problem was it wasn’t just my name I needed to remember…

It was everything.

Michel’s Review

I am a huge fan of Cambria Hebert’s books.  She is one of those authors that can tackle any genre and hold the reader captive until the very last page.  I think my favorite books of hers are her romantic suspense novels. She has a way of keeping the reader on the edge of their seats while delivering a sizzling romance.  Her latest release, Amnesia, is a bit different than her previous romantic suspense books.  There’s a shroud of mystery around both of the main characters as well as an emotional past that may be connected to their present.

Eddie Donovan is tortured by his past.  Years ago there was an accident at the lake that resulted in losing his best friend.  He’s never gotten over it and even though life has gone on, his is frozen in that moment in time.  Sure he works hard in his family store and has a keen business sense but his personal life is void.  He wasn’t the only person in town deeply affected by the accident.

One late night changes everything when he rescues a woman drowning in the lake.  That woman resembles the girl that drowned years ago.  The girl who has haunted his soul.  It seems impossible for it to be her but at the same time he has hope.  She can’t remember her name, where she’s from, or how she ended up in the lake.  She has named herself Amnesia.

Soon it becomes quite clear that Amnesia’s past is darker than they thought.  Mysterious things begin happening and it becomes clear someone wanted her to die that night in the lake.  They are back to finish the job.

As the danger escalates, Eddie and Amnesia’s relationship is becoming more than friends. They are falling in love.  How can they fight off the danger when they don’t know what they are fighting?

Just as Amnesia’s memories begin to surface it becomes quite clear she may not survive them.  The lake tried to claim her life, now it’s demanding her soul.  What happens next…Cliffhanger!

This book held me captive and I was hanging on the edge of my seat.  The cliffhanger has left me biting my nails waiting to see who is the monster of the lake.  There’s definitely more to this shocking story.

Young couple of lovers hugging

Book one in the series

There are those moments in life that are provocative in their very existences, that embed in our minds forever, and sometimes our very souls. They change us, mold us, maybe even save us. But some are darker, dangerous. If we allow them to, they control us. Seduce us. Quite possibly even destroy us.

The moment I walked into Sonoma’s Reid Winter Winery and Vineyard and made eye contact with Faith Winter for the first time was one of those moments. Provocative because I know at least one of her secrets, of which, I suspect she has many. Provocative because she believes I was a stranger to her when we met, but I am not. Provocative because I sought her out, with no intention of touching her. But now I have. Now I want her. Now I have to have her. But that changes nothing. It doesn’t change why I came for her.

Running for her life, ex-FBI agent Elizabeth Ward escapes to Montana with a new identity. She craves peace and solitude, but instead finds handsome rancher, Nat Sullivan.

Nat is trying to hold his ailing family together, while struggling to keep the ranch from bankruptcy. The last thing the cowboy needs is a beautiful stranger reminding him there is more to life than work.

But Elizabeth isn’t what she seems. And when a murderer and rapist track her down to the remote ranch, they all find out about the power of revenge.

Revenge or Redemption. Which would you choose?

HER LAST CHANCE:
Marsh & Josie first appear in HER SANCTUARY. This is their story

Eighteen years ago the Blade Hunter found his first victim on the streets of New York City.

As a child Josephine Maxwell was attacked and left for dead. She learned the hard way that life is a constant struggle for survival. She can’t waste time pining over a man she can’t have. Now the killer has returned, and the only person who can save her is the FBI agent she deceived and betrayed six months ago.

Now he’s back to finish the job.

Special Agent-in-Charge Marshall Hayes has made it his life’s work to fight on the side of law and order, even though it cost him the only woman he ever loved. The return of a serial killer gives him the excuse he needs to force his way back into her life. But in order to catch the killer and safeguard Josie’s life, he has to break all the rules and risk losing his heart again.

HER RISK TO TAKE:
If only ER doc Sarah Sullivan could get the ornery cowboy she’s loved since she was a girl to cooperate, she could move on with her life, and maybe even think about starting a family. But he’s pulling away, and she doesn’t know why. What she does know is that she can’t imagine life without him.

Ex-con Cal Landon lives in fear of the day his ugly past catches up with him and takes away the best thing he’s ever known—Sarah Sullivan. Cal would die to protect her, but she deserves better than a world-weary ranch hand. Even though it’s way past time for him to leave her family’s Montana spread, he can’t bring himself to let go.

When Sarah proposes at Christmastime, Cal has no choice but to walk away. Then a hostage crisis hurls Sarah into a life-and-death situation, and the love that made Cal leave sends him racing back to her side, straight into danger. He will get her out alive—or die trying.
