Trying not to wake him, I slowly slid out from under his arm and off the bed to search for my clothes. Once I was dressed, I told myself to just leave, but I couldn’t help it—I turned to look at him in the light. I needed to be sure I hadn’t made him up.

The images from last night tore through my mind again when I saw the large, tattooed arm resting where my body had just been. The muscles were well defined even relaxed, and the face had a boyish charm now that he was asleep. Such a difference from the predatory stare and knowing smirk I kept seeing in my mind. Before I could stop myself, I gently ran my fingers through his dirty-blond hair that, now in the sunlight, I could see had a red tint to it. And I knew if he opened them, those arctic blue eyes would once again captivate me.

But I couldn’t risk that.

I’d already stayed too long; I’d already made a mistake with him. Drunken one-night stands weren’t my thing. Drunken one-night stands with strangers in Vegas were even worse.

Straightening, I turned and walked quietly from the room.

Michel’s Review

Fans of the Taking Chances Series and Forgiving Lies Series by Molly McAdams are in for a real treat.  The babies of these series are all grown up and giving their parents a run for their money.  It’s a good thing the parents have dealt with all the good and bad crap life can throw along the way.  They are getting a taste of their own medicine.

When Kennedy Ryan and her twin sister are forced to move to California because of their father. Logan “Kash” Ryan has old enemies being released from prison.  Kash is fearful that his daughters are going to pay a high price.  Thankfully their Uncle Eli (Changing Everything) is there to help them get situated in their new lives.  One of the ways he intends to help is by getting his best employee, Liam Taylor (son from Taking Chances), to introduce them to other people their age.  Little does Uncle Eli know but Liam already knows Kennedy Ryan.  They had an anonymous one night stand in Vegas a year ago.

When Kennedy and Liam come face to face it’s a total shock.

Liam wants to pursue Kennedy because he never forgot the girl he called Moon.

Kennedy doesn’t want a relationship with Liam because of her secret past.  Even though she has moved on from the past, the scars run deep.

Just when Liam convinces her to give their relationship a shot, the past will come knocking on the door for both of them.  Kennedy will have to face her past.  Liam will have to force his family to let go of his biological father (Chase) memory and let him live his own life.

Meanwhile Daddy Kash and the uncles will have to get to the bottom of the danger that threatens the precious Ryan twins.

Molly McAdams tied both series together beautifully.  I loved how our favorite characters from the past series became the wise adults that guided these great young adults.  I loved how she handled the memory of Chase and showed what a wonderful father Brandon was to Liam.  It was a very happy transition for both series and gave the new generation something of their very own.

All of these characters will remain dear to my heart.

Her hobbies include hiking, snowboarding, traveling and long walks on the beach, which roughly translates to being a homebody with her hubby and dishing out movie quotes. When she’s not at work, she can be found hiding out in her bedroom surrounded by her laptop, cell, Kindle and fighting over the TV remote. She has a weakness for crude-humored movies, fried pickles and loves curling up in a fluffy comforter during a thunderstorm…or under one in a bathtub if there are tornados. That way she can pretend they aren’t really happening.

Synopsis

From the New York Times bestselling author of Collide and Pulse comes a gritty new novel about a shattered young woman who unexpectedly falls for two best friends.

They were a storm I never saw coming, an unforeseen heartbreak on the edge of a dangerous cliff.

Amber Moretti’s life changes in the span of minutes. An orphaned outsider, she is desperate to start fresh the moment she walks onto campus. In the time it takes to cross the university’s dining hall, she meets two men who bring color, air, and light to her darkened world.

They became my addiction, each a needle to my next hit, my high.

Brock Cunningham’s appeal is dizzying, a potent force Amber can’t deny. A green-eyed smooth talker, he instantly attracts Amber. It doesn’t take long for him to consume her every thought, her every breath.

Ryder Ashcroft, a blue-eyed, tattooed, and pierced bad boy, turns Amber off immediately—that is, until he kisses her, stealing a piece of her heart, her soul.

They were as opposite as fire and ice, yet I ached for them equally.

Never knowing she could be broken down in so many unexpectedly beautiful yet petrifying ways, Amber finds herself falling for both men.

Immoral? Maybe. I say undeniable. Uncontained.

But one devastating event changes everything, shattering each of their lives…and Amber isn’t sure she can recover from it.

“What are you, Casey?” Ryder asks over his shoulder as he scrubs his hands with antibacterial soap.

“Your little cancer warrior,” she answers with a small smile.

“That’s right.” He dries his hands and turns, a proud grin cracking his mouth. “The bravest one ever.”

I grab Casey’s hand and hold it tight, knowing nothing I’ve ever seen, heard, or felt compares to what she’s facing. This child’s living with a fear I can’t comprehend. One that’d slay all of my fears put together.

“Ready?” Ryder asks, his tone soft and caring, everything it should be.

Casey nods, clenching my hand. My heart swells, anxiety building thick in my throat as Ryder slips on a pair of medical gloves and cleans the area around her port with Betadine swabs.

Casey looks at me, the cool blue of her eyes misting over. “Are you scared of needles?”

“No,” I say, running my free hand along the back of her neck. “Are you?”

“I used to be.” She sighs, a single tear slipping down her face. “But not so much anymore.”

It takes everything in me not to drag her little body off the table and run out of the apartment with her. I wipe the tear from her cheek, my need to hide her away, sheltering her from the sinister storm she’s in the middle of, growing with each unsteady breath.

“A little cold,” Ryder warns before spraying the anesthetic on her skin.

“Hurry, Ry,” Casey pleads, her voice weak yet panicked. “It doesn’t last that long.”

“I have to make sure you’re numb, Case.” Ryder ducks his head and stares into her eyes, trying to keep her focused on the silly faces he’s making.

His tactic works.

Casey’s tiny giggles bounce around the kitchen, their musical notes blocking out the sound of Ryder popping the cap off a weird-looking needle. With a small, clear tube like a tail—and plastic wings stretched out on either side—it reminds me of a dragonfly. Ryder presses his gloved finger against Casey’s port a few times, his attention honed in on her face as he says, “Knock, knock.”

“Who’s there?” Casey smiles at me, completely unaware that Ryder’s pricked her skin with the needle.

“Aardvark.” Ryder pushes the medicine through the syringe, his attention cutting between Casey’s face and the needle.

“Aardvark who?” she manages, a thin sheen of sweat dotting her upper lip.

“Aardvark a hundred miles for one of your pretty smiles.” Ryder pulls the needle from her chest, and before she can blink, he rests his lips against her forehead, kissing away her remaining fear.

Close to immobile, my heart tugs, the magnitude of what this man means to this little girl—what they mean to each other—scraping tears up my dry throat. I swallow the sound before it can leave me, warmth pinching my stomach into a beautiful knot as I observe them.

“It’s over?” Casey asks, uncertainty flashing in her eyes.

“Yeah, kiddo. It’s over,” Ryder answers, his voice heavy with relief as he applies a small piece of gauze over her port. “You’re all set, warrior. Go get cleaned up, and we’ll get ready to leave.”

With Ryder’s aid, Casey slides off the table and heads for the bathroom, the bounce in her step less tangible as she slips around the corner. Quiet reigns, the events from the last few minutes whispering across my mind as Ryder looks at me with exhausted eyes. Stress lines cut across his forehead, wariness drowning his beautiful features. Overcome, I watch him swipe a tired hand over his face and turn, resting his palms against the counter. As though having no control over my body—a magnet pulling in my gut—I stand and move toward him, each tentative step I take carried out with shallow, quick breaths. I come up behind him, lift a shaky hand and tap his shoulder, my pulse lurching as he turns and meets my gaze. Our connection strikes, a bolt of emotions paralyzing us as we stare at each other.

I touch my fingers to his stubbled cheek, my conscience crying out that my actions are wrong, so very wrong, but my heart mutes the warning as I move my palm to the back of his neck.

His muscles go taut, restraint lighting the fiery blue of his eyes. “Amber, don’t.” The words come out not as a rough warning but a soft plea. “Don’t do this.”

“I have to,” I whisper, trembling. “You’re . . . amazing, Ryder. What you did for her, everything you do for her . . . I just . . .” I drop my eyes to his chest, my heart galloping as I register his hands gripping my waist. Their heat sears through me, a thrill jumping from cell to cell. “You’re tender, cocky, gentle, and an asshole all at the same time. You’re kind, giving, nurturing. You’re . . . everything.”

My lips find his, testing, teasing, barely touching. Our breathing comes faster, harder as I pull him down, our foreheads pressed together as we stare into each other’s eyes. “Please . . . I just . . . Just once more. That’s all I need.”

I think . . . hope.

With hunger demolishing all traces of restraint from his gaze, Ryder buries his hands in my wavy curls and looks at me a beat before capturing my lips in a slow, passionate kiss. I sigh into his mouth, my senses drowning in his familiar flavor as I fall in step with his calculated strokes. On a deep groan, he draws me closer, his tongue dipping in and out, out and in. Still, nothing about his touch is rough, yet everything in it screams that he needs me in this moment.

In this wicked space and time of his life.

Every lick and nip is a soft caress, like he’s trying to burn the sensation of my lips into his memory. My pulse hammers in staccato mode as I melt the full weight of my body into his. With my blood swimming through my veins, and sinking further into everything that is Ryder, I feel the emptiness of his soul slice through me. A dull ache pinches my heart, spreading its misery through my muscles as he cups my cheeks and deepens the kiss with a gentleness I never knew he possessed. My breath catches, wiped from my lungs as he glides his lips along my jaw, down the base of my throat. The cadence of his exotic growl slips through my ears, dizzying my head in the sweetest way.

“Christ, I fucking want you so bad,” Ryder whispers hoarsely. He drags his lips back to mine, his kiss urgent, greedy. However, he brings it down a notch, his movements revisiting slow, sensual, worshipping this moment for everything it is. Worshipping me for all I am. “So badly, peach. More than I’ve ever wanted anything or anyone. You drive me crazy. Your smell, skin, eyes.” He sucks my lip between his teeth, a groan punching from his chest as he runs his fingertips along my bare arms.

Goose bumps pop, deliciously pricking my skin as I tighten my grip in his hair.

“Your little giggles, pouts, personality. Every single fucked-up scar you own in and out. All of it. All of you.” He licks into my mouth, his tongue exploring mine with precision as his hands find my nape, their hold possessive. “Fuck. It should’ve been me. Not him. Me.”

And just like that, our moral compasses spring due north, Brock the center of its attention—our attention. We slowly break the kiss, our breathing choppy from the loss.

Robin’s Review

I recently had a very unusual reading experience. The novel that I read is Amber to Ashes, Part One of the Torn Hearts series. This new adult/dark erotic thriller is my first novel written by Gail McHugh. Amber to Ashes is the first novel of a brand new series. When I read the synopsis, it piqued my curiosity. McHugh’s previous novels, Collide and Pulse, are both very successful. For all of these reasons, I decided to try out a new author.

The plot of Amber to Ashes revolves primarily around three characters. I guess you could classify this story as a love triangle, but McHugh has put her own twist on the typical love triangle situation. Amber to Ashes is narrated from a first person point of view, told from the perspectives of Amber Moretti, Brock Cunningham and Ryder Ashcroft.

Amber Moretti witnessed the deaths of the only people she ever loved when she was a child. She is an orphan who has been shuffled between different foster families since the death of her parents. Now Amber is looking for a fresh start as she begins her freshman year at Hadley University.

Bad boy Ryder Ashcroft has blue eyes, jet-black hair, body piercings, and tattoos. He’s attractive, but completely annoying. Arrogant and argumentative. Amber lands face-first in Ryder’s lap on her first day at Hadley University, and he knows just how to push her buttons from the get-go.

Just minutes after landing in Ryder’s lap, Amber meets the handsome Hadley University football captain, and then she knows she’s in trouble! Brock Cunningham is the green-eyed, smooth-talking, best friend of Ryder Ashcroft. Brock is flirtatious, charming and says all of the right things. By the time she walks out of the cafeteria, Amber is giddy and high over meeting these two boys.

It’s not often when a situation like this presents itself to me. After four chapters, I stopped reading Amber to Ashes to consider what I was feeling: I was really struggling with this story. I already disliked the main characters, and I felt the story was lacking substance. I honestly wondered how I was going to finish reading Amber to Ashes. But, I also knew that I was still at a point very early in the book, and so much can change in a matter of a few chapters. I decided to plow ahead. Well, thank goodness that I did! Once I picked Amber to Ashes back up, I never looked back! McHugh begins to peel back the layers of her characters and steadily builds in to the meat of the story. Each of these characters has demons. Each are damaged. We are shown characters who are complex and very likable. I found myself sympathetic to each character for different reasons and increasingly fascinated by what was unfolding!

I mentioned earlier in my review that Brock and Ryder are best friends, so I wasn’t surprised they each expressed an interest for dating Amber. What transpires between these three individuals is not what I would consider typical for a love triangle. It’s a different spin on the love triangle, and not nearly as angsty in that sense. What I also found interesting are the darker elements to this story and how this plays into the relationships which develop between these characters. Remember, I consider this a dark erotic thriller, and Amber to Ashes certainly lives up to this classification. Dark. Erotic. Thriller.

I’ll sum up my thoughts with this: Amber to Ashes is one of my favorite novels for 2015! The story ends in a cliffhanger, but it’s a novel well worth reading. In fact, I’m dying to chat with other readers about this story! If you love dark erotic thrillers, you’ll definitely want to pick up a copy of 5-star Amber to Ashes! Congratulations to author Gail McHugh!

Hannah’s eyes flew open and her lips parted in a scream, but the enormous man straddling her pressed his hand tighter to her lips, muffling the sound.

She jerked her arms downward, ready to fight him off, only to discover that her wrists were tied to the headboard. Terror rushed through her and her pulse sped, setting her heart to slamming against her ribs as she tugged harder on her bonds. But the rope biting into her wrists assured her she wouldn’t be able to fight her way free.

She was bound tight, powerless to protect herself from whatever this man intended to do to her.

“Relax, princess. It’s just me.” The man leaned down, the water dripping from the end of his nose, landing on Hannah’s cheek, making her flinch. “I came in through the window. I thought I’d make that fantasy you were telling me about a reality.”

Hannah swallowed, her thundering heartbeat slowing a bit as she understood what was happening.

She wasn’t being attacked by an intruder. This man must be Harley’s guy of the moment, and he clearly thought he was straddling her sister. Once she cleared up the misunderstanding, he’d untie her and she could show him to the door. They’d both be embarrassed, no doubt, but she wasn’t about to be raped or murdered.

The realization made her whip-tight muscles sag with relief, an action she realized too late that the man took as an invitation to continue living out Harley’s bondage fantasy.

“I’ve been dying to touch you all day,” he said, his dry palm moving from her mouth to her breast, teasing her nipple through her thin tee shirt, drawing a gasp from her throat.

She expected his touch to feel foreign and unwelcome, but his fingers were gentle, teasing her with a sweetness that made her arch into his warm hand. Electricity shot from her breast to coil between her legs, the sensation intensified by the feel of the rope digging into her wrists as her biceps tightened reflexively in response to the stranger’s confident touch.

“God, the sounds you make drive me crazy,” the man said, pinching her nipple tight enough to make her gasp again.

“No, please, I’m not—” Hannah’s words ended in a moan as he pushed her shirt up and bent lower, tugging her nipple into the warm, wet heat of his mouth. His tongue flicked and teased, flooding her body with pleasure and longing so intense she was panting by the time he transferred his mouth to her other breast, sucking and nibbling at the aroused skin as his big hand slipped down the front of her panties, finding where she was already wet.

Wet, from her sister’s boyfriend’s mouth on her breasts. And now his fingers were sliding into where she ached, making her shudder.

If she didn’t stop this soon, it would be too late. There would be no avoiding tragedy, there would be only shame and the nightmare of confessing to her sister and this innocent man that she’d done something unforgivable.

“Stop, I’m not Harley.” She tensed her thighs only to relax them a second later when she realized her locked muscles were trapping his fingers inside her embarrassingly slick sex.

“No, you’re not,” he said, driving his fingers in and out of her as he trapped her nipple between his teeth and bit down, making her cry out in pain before he soothed away the hurt with his tongue.

“You’re my little slut,” he continued in his deep, sexy rumble of a voice, his fingers still busy between her legs, making the tension coiling low in her body fist even tighter. “And I’m going to fuck you until you scream.”

Excerpt

Before I can blink, Dax’s huge, calloused hands are framing my face and his mouth brushes across mine. At first it’s just a whisper, a tease, the contact barely there. Then, I hear him inhale sharply and his lips press down forcefully, melding with mine, urging me to open up with quick flicks of his tongue. I melt against his solid body as he dominates the kiss, completely under his spell to do with as he wishes. It seems to go on and on—a small slice of paradise in this blighted spot of East London.

When he finally pulls back, greedily stealing a few more nips at my mouth, he closes his eyes and moans. “I knew you’d taste like heaven. You’re an angel, I just knew it.” His voice is so quiet I wonder if he meant to say it out loud.

Naturally, I stand there like an idiot, saying nothing… doing nothing. I’ve been kissed into complete stupidity.

Dax swipes the pad of his thumb over my damp lips. “See you at school tomorrow.” Without giving me a single hint of what he’s thinking, he turns and leaves. I touch my mouth, running a finger over the same spot Dax touched. My heart leaps into my throat, fluttering so fast I fear it may explode.

Great. I’m ruined. My first kiss and it was nothing less than brilliant. Dax Davies just ruined me for every other man from now until the day I die.

Michel’s Review

The Sphere of Irony series by Heather C. Leigh is a unique rock star series.  This series features two British members and two American members.  The first two books in the series cover the British members.  Their stories span from their youth in the ghetto’s of London to the glamourous life in LA.  Both of the British members could not wait to escape their lives in England but paid a high price to do so.  They left behind the most important things in their lives.  They left the women that owned their hearts.  Both Dax and Adam have completely different circumstances and situations that led them to their present lives in the Sphere of Irony.  Their friendship is the only thing that keeps them going and connected to their pasts.  Strike is Dax Davies story.

Dax was raised with very strict rules.

The Rules

1. Family First

2. Never Let Your Emotions Show

3. No fucking, shagging, wanking, sucking, or getting off for seven days leading up to a fight.  You win, you get your reward.

4. Women who act like slags can be treated like slags, but never disrespect a proper lady.

5. Defend what’s yours.

Those rules dictated every moment of his young life. He was forced into the world of underground fighting by his father.  The fights were more important than school, social life, and personal life.  His only solace is his music.  He and his best friend Adam have formed a band and are performing in local pubs when he has a night off from the fighting.

When Dax begins falling for his classmate Kate Campbell, it’s very hard to stray from the rules and get to know the girl that has captured his attention.  When Dax finally gives in to his desires rather than following the rules it ends in disaster.  His father and family is going to make sure that family comes first.

Dax finally escapes his family and the band heads to LA, Dax finally is feeling free.  He is finally free to pursue Kate.

Kate Campbell has come to LA on a soccer scholarship.  It is her ticket out of the ghetto and into a successful life.  After Dax crushed her young heart, she wants nothing to do with him here in America.

The disappearance and reappearance of their friend Ellie will bring Dax and Kate together once again.  They are finally going to explore the feelings they have for one another.  They are building a life lasting relationship.  But life has a way of butting it’s ugly head. Fame, stalkers, athletic careers, and “the rules” will tear them apart once again.

Dax will have to learn to let go of “the rules” and learn to show his real emotions.  He will have to put “the rules” into a new perspective.  He will find a whole new meaning to “Defend what’s yours”.

Heather C. Leigh wrote another fantastic book in the Sphere of Irony series.  I liked that the book was connected to the first book Incite but was also completely different.  The connections kept the Sphere of Irony intertwined without giving spoilers to the first book.  Each of the characters in the Sphere of Irony are completely different and each one has an interesting story.  I really liked Dax’s story.  He had life lessons that he had to learn to deal with and make his own.  The one thing readers would never question is his love for Kate.

I highly recommend Strike and Incite, the first book in the Sphere of Irony series.

Ash Callahan isn’t looking for love. He’s built his real-estate empire out of discipline, control, and cool logic — so why does one kiss from a carefree stranger send his world tilting off its axis?

Their connection is undeniable; the chemistry, impossible to ignore. But just as Noelle considers opening her heart again, the pair find themselves facing off over the town’s future — and their own. With so much as stake, will they find a way to bridge the divide, and build a love that’s unforgettable?

“Watch out!”

The packed crowd in Jimmy’s bar suddenly shifts, and I go slamming into someone.

“Sorry!” I put my hands out to keep from falling, and a pair of strong arms grip me tightly, keeping me on my feet. “I didn’t see you—”

I look up, and the words fade on my lips. The room disappears—all the noise and jostling crowd blurring into background static.

It’s him.

Ash. The man from the masquerade party. The one who led me on a wild night of adventure—and never called me the next morning. He should be five hundred miles away, but he’s here, in the middle of the crowded bar in Beachwood Bay, looking at me like I’m a ghost.

I know how he feels. It’s impossible, it has to be. But I can feel his hands, gripping me tightly; feel the warm, solid muscle of his body against mine.

I know those hands. I’ve explored that body. There would be no mistaking them, even if I wasn’t gazing into his piercing dark eyes, the ones branded on my memory.

Oh my God.

The moment stretches, electric. Then someone slams into me again, and Ash yanks me back. Suddenly, the world rushes in again.

“What are you…?” I whisper, still not able to believe it. “I mean…”

I fight to collect myself, but before I can form a coherent sentence, Ash grabs my hand and pulls me across the room. He’s moving so fast, I can barely keep up: I hurry after him, through the crowd and down a back hallway.

“Where are we going?” I gulp, my heart racing. “Slow down. Ash!”

He ignores me, pulling me after him, up a flight of stairs, and through another door. We emerge on the rooftop, a flat expanse decorated with string lights and a view of the whole bay. I barely have time to catch my breath before Ash brings his hands to my face, pushes me back against the wall and kisses me so hard I forget my own name.

Yes.

Just like before, the chemical reaction is instant: a flare of heat surging through me, so bright it blots the world, like staring straight into the sun. I part my lips, greedy for the taste of him, loving the sensual caress of his tongue as he slides it deep into my mouth.

Ash groans against me, and I arch up, wrapping my arms around his neck to pull him closer. He’s gripping me so tightly, my body is crushed against him; my back hard against the wall. He threads the fingers on one hand roughly through my hair, pinning me in place as his mouth continues its devastating exploration.

There’s no way to explain it, how my body responds to his touch. Touch-paper to a flame; igniting like never before. I run my hands through his dark hair, slide across the muscular contours of his back, gripping at his shirt and kissing him with everything I have. I can’t think, I can’t breathe, I just fall deeper into the kiss, our passion obliterating every last thought from my mind.

It’s a rush of glitter in my veins, of soaring fever and a low, aching need. Desire consumes me, hot and demanding, until suddenly, Ash wrenches free.

I gasp for air, sinking back against the wall. My legs go weak as his eyes rake over me, blazing darkly with lust. “What are you doing here?” he whispers harshly.

“I…” I can’t find the words, I’m still reeling with shock—and desire.

A shadow crosses his face. He shakes his head, looking dazed. “No,” he mutters, cutting me off. “This isn’t happening.” Before I can say another word, he turns and strides away from me, slamming the exit door with a crash. I’m left alone on the rooftop with nothing but the sound of my own beating heart.

 5StarSunTracey’s Review
“How about you and I make a deal?…Just for tonight, the real world doesn’t exist. It’s just me and you, and whatever happens next.”Ash Callahan is always in control. Since having to step in as the head of his family at a young age, he has made it his business to keep everything professional, nice and tidy, with no time for letting things get personal. Noelle Olsen is a free spirit wrapped in a businesslike shell. Following her dream of being a lawyer, she should be loving the life she’s created, but the rat-race is beginning to chafe. Meeting Ash may be just the thing to open her eyes…I am a serious fan of Melody Grace and her Beachwood Bay series. I love every single character, every single story, every single book. I was super-excited when I read the blurb for Ash’s story, and couldn’t wait to get my hands on the book when it became available. From the first time he was mentioned in Unrequited/Uninhibited, Dex’s and Alicia’s story, I wanted to know more about him. Ash has had to give up so much to make sure that his siblings were taken care of. His whole business empire is a testament to his commitment to providing for those that he loves, but, in putting them first, he has closed himself off. Meeting Noelle, and giving in to the spontaneity of their first night together, has pretty much thrown him for a loop.

“I can’t…I can’t be that guy you want. Spontaneous and thrill-seeking. I know I made you believe it’s who I really am, but that night, it wasn’t me. I was playing pretend with you, and it wouldn’t have been fair to keep pretending.”

I love Noelle. She has this zest for life that is completely at odds with her buttoned-down job. I was cheering for her to shake off the doubts that were keeping her tied down in a career that she did not love, and step out into the unknown. She knows that there is more to life, more to what is going on between Ash and her, and she’s willing to grab it with both hands.

“I don’t want to fight this…I’m finished with doing what I’m supposed to, what I think is the sensible thing. We both know there’s something real here between us. So now it’s your turn to choose…Are you going to keep lying to yourself, or will you trust your instincts?”

Knowing that Unforgettable is the last in the Beachwood Bay series is bittersweet. It’s hard to say goodbye to characters that feel like one big extended family, and to a place that feels so much like home. The epilogue at the end of this book makes all the difference for me, because I am unabashedly a lover of the HEA. Being able to see how things wrap up for each of the couples in the series is just the perfect way to end things. While I will miss visiting Beachwood Bay and all of the folks that I have come to know and love, I can say that Unforgettable is just that, and I happily give it 5+ ‘romantic, sexy, yes, the love scenes are super-hot, happily-ever-after’ stars. Add this series to your TBR, and enjoy.

As I entered the door, I took a deep breath to try and still my out-of-control nerves. Smoke hung heavy in the air, stinging my eyes and causing me to cough. Several men in leather biker cuts lounged on stools at the bar, nursing beers. Across from me, a heated pool game was taking place.

I took a few steps inside and then froze. “Are you lost, darlin’?” a big busted woman in a halter top asked.

“Uh…I’m looking for David Malloy,” I said.

Two men at the pool table whirled around. The shorter of the two, a tough but cute looking blond, cocked his head curiously at me. But then the moment my gaze locked on the other man, I knew he was Willow’s father. They had the same dark hair, soulful dark eyes, and heart-shaped face. David, however, had dark scruff covering his face. Although he was Rev’s brother, I didn’t see any resemblance between the two. Although he was shorter and slightly less built, David was just as good-looking as Rev. “Mr. Malloy?” I questioned, as I closed the distance between us.

He tossed the pool stick on the table. Taking a long drag on his cigarette, he then stubbed it out in an ashtray on the table. “What do you want?” he demanded.

Without even glancing around the room, I knew that every eye in the place was on us. “I really need to speak with you for a moment.”

His dark eyes narrowed as they raked over my body. Then the next thing I knew, he leapt at me, knocking me back into the wall. One of his hands came to grip my throat while his body pinned me in place. Fear like I had never known overwhelmed me, sending my heartbeat drumming wildly in my ears. It was so loud it felt like a cannon blast going off around me. “Please,” I murmured.

David glared at me as his thumb pressed harder into my throat. “They’re really falling down on their job at the academy.”

“E-Excuse m-me?” I stammered.

With a smirk, he replied, “Don’t they train you ATF bitches to hide your fear a little better? I mean, you’re practically pissing your pants right now, not to mention your heart is beating ninety to nothing.”

I shook my head slowly back and forth as I tried processing his words. “ATF? I don’t understand.”

He rolled his eyes. “A white-bred piece of ass comes waltzing into my clubhouse wanting to talk to me alone. It doesn’t take a fucking genius to realize you’re a Fed.”

A Fed? It took me a moment to process what he meant. Holy shit, he thought I worked for the government as an agent of some sort. Quickly, I replied, “No, I’m not.”

A voice came from him. “Deacon, man, you’re gonna get your ass jacked up even further for this.”

Glancing over his shoulder, Deacon said to the young, blond haired man, “Stay out of this, Bishop.”

Bishop held up his hands. “Fine. It’s your fucking funeral.”

David’s hand slid down my throat to the buttons on my dress. Glancing over his shoulder at the others, he questioned, “What do you bet she’s wired up under her tits?”

When his hands started to rip open my dress, I couldn’t hold back my scream. “No, stop! I’m not who you think I am. I swear!” I protested.

“Then just who the hell are you?” he demanded.

Before I could answer, a tiny voice came from behind us. “Miss Alex?”

The sound of Willow’s voice caused David to release his hold on my dress, but his body still kept me pinned to the wall. At that same moment, Rev entered the clubhouse. When he saw me, his eyes bulged, and he broke into a run to reach us. Grabbing David’s shoulders, he slung him away from me. “For fuck’s sake, Deacon, what the hell are you doing?”

“I’m giving this undercover ATF bitch what she deserves,” Deacon spat, taking a step back toward me.

“Christ, she’s not ATF,” Rev countered.

“Oh, then who the hell is she?”

“She’s my teacher…and my friend,” Willow answered in a small voice.

Michel’s Review

Vicious Cycle is the first book in the new biker series by Katie Ashley.

Vicious Cycle is fresh and quite a bit different from the run of the mill biker books.  This series incorporates family dynamics, southern heritage, the MC world, and a bit of religion.  With all of these elements one would think that it’s a tad too much but I must say it is not. The entire story works.  The reader quickly becomes connected to the characters and embraces them whole heartedly.

Vicious Cycle starts out from a little five year girl’s POV.  This little girl, Willow, draws the reader into the story and quickly establishes the dark elements in her world.  When she is taken to her unknown father it takes the reader into the world of the Hells Raiders MC and gets to the grit of the story.

David “Deacon” Malloy is the Sergeant In Arms for the Hells Raiders.  He was raised in the Hells Raiders MC since he was adopted in his young teenage years.  Although he and his brothers have been raised in an outlaw environment they have also been raised in a family environment.  When he finds out he has a daughter he is at a loss.  He doesn’t know what to do with a child or how to raise one.  One thing is for certain, this precious little girl has captured his heart.  When he finds out about the violent circumstances that led to Willow being dropped at the door, he will do anything to protect her.  His old enemies now know he has something precious to lose.

When the threats from their rival club, the Nordic Knights, and their number one enemy Sigal escalate, it is time to take some protective actions.  One is to keep Willow in lock down at the club’s compound.  When her kindergarten teacher shows up at the compound wanting to know why Willow has missed so much school, it opens another door the Deacon didn’t know he wanted.

Alexandra Evans has a special place in her heart for Willow.  She loves the bright and intelligent little girl.  When she stops showing up for school she needs to know that Willow is alright.  When she finds out the frightening circumstances behind the absences she offers solutions.  She proposes to become Willow’s home bound teacher.  She never imagined that she would become more than a teacher.  She would become immersed in the Hells Raiders MC world.  She would become their friend.  She would become a part of their family.  She would become the lover to one of the most complicated men she has ever met.  She would become a target.  Her life is on the line all because of a beautiful little girl and her sexy father.  She can handle the danger and threats because in the end the high price is worth.  She will do anything in the name of love.

Katie Ashley wrote a very edgy, suspenseful, gritty biker romance that envelops everything MC romance readers look for in a book.  I quickly became connected to all of the characters.  I embraced the Hells Raiders MC and their mantra.  I loved the romance that developed between Deacon and Alexandra.  Willow captured my heart and I fell in love with this little girl just like all those big bad bikers did.

I highly recommend Vicious Cycle by Katie Ashley!

Hawkin

Well, shit. Guess there’s not going to be any calm before the next storm. I look at my brother and sigh.

I hit the road, drive for what feels like hours. I don’t know where I’m going or what I’m looking to find, but as long as I keep moving, my past can’t catch up to me.

At least it’s a good idea in theory because I can’t outrun this shit. The stuff I want to and the stuff I don’t want to.

I end up the one place I used to go to be alone, to think, and as I stare at the Hollywood sign from my seat on the grass at the Griffith Park Observatory, I love the feeling that I’m this little person in this big world. The idea comforts me some. The notion that on the grand scale of things my problems are minute. Someone out there has it way worse.

And no one expects a rock star to be here so with my hat pulled low on my head, I’m able to disappear.

I stare down below to the city where as a little boy, scared and traumatized, I wondered how all of the dreams inside my head could ever see the light of day when I felt like I had the responsibility of the world on my small shoulders. But I did. And I made it.

So why do I feel like I’m still not enough? For my brother? To make my mother better? For Quinlan to even want me beyond the killer sex we have? For the fans who scream and sing my lyrics like they live them when they have no fucking clue the meaning behind the words?

I scrub my hands over my face, needing a drink, craving an ice cream cone, and wanting the feeling of Quinlan’s arms wrapped around me as she silently sits there and just is with me.

My mind veers to Hunter. I push the guilt away, hold on to my gut check rationalization that he deserved it, and realize that’s the trouble I’m having here. Going with my gut versus going with the bullshit promises I’ve lived by forever.

My stomach churns and my head feels like Gizmo’s banging the hell out of it with his sticks. I shove up off the grass, needing to get the fuck out of here, my heart and head in conflict and for the first time in forever I dare to think what could happen if my heart finally won for once.

Michel’s Review

Sweet Ache by K. Bromberg is going to be one of the hottest books of summer.  It is more than a rock star romance.  It has red hot romance, thrilling suspense, and scorching sex scenes.  This book keeps the reader enthralled from beginning to end.

Hawkin Play has always taken the heat for his twin brother.  Now that he is a successful musician and star , his brother has taken full advantage of the perks that go along with Hawkin’s career.  He uses Hawkin’s fame to get him out of sticky situations and get him into places.  It’s not merely him taking advantage of Hawkin’s fame, he is resentful and jealous of Hawkin.

When Hawkin is arrested for something that Hunter has done it is the straw for Hawkin.  His lawyer and band want him to roll on Hunter.  Hawkins is a good guy and refuses to turn on his family.  He is carrying around misguided guilt and remorse for his family’s problems.  He feels responsible for their well being.  Hawkins has to draw the line somewhere.  This should be the time.

In a strategic move to get a lesser sentence or off from the recent charges, Hawkin Play becomes a guest lecturer at the university.  He has a six week course to teach students about the music industry.  He’s out of his element in the academic world.

When he mistakes his TA, Quinlan, for a student it sets Quinlan on edge.  She has been around bad boys and their egos all her life.  She does not want to deal with it in her world. But she under estimated Hawkin Play.  He has more charm in his pinky finger than most men have in their lifetime.

What starts out as a semi hostile relationship turns into a sizzling affair.  Their relationship is rocky because of Hawkin’s career and his brother.  His brother will do everything in his power to destroy Hawkin’s happiness.

As the story plays out it will surprise the readers at the extremes that Hunter will go to.  It will break the readers hearts to see what Hawkin has been through in his life.  It’s a good thing he fell in love with a strong woman like Quinlan.

K. Bromberg never fails to disappoint! I highly recommend Sweet Ache.

Excerpt

“Enough about me,” I say as the weekend-night bustle flows around us – college kids heading to bars, stores open late to take advantage of the foot traffic, guitar music and drumbeats audible from the door of every club. “What about you? What made you decide to study earthquakes?”

“And volcanoes,” he adds.

“Can’t leave out the volcanoes,” I say, and am rewarded with a small smile.

“Well, when I was about ten years old, my mother and stepfather took the whole family to Hawaii.”

Stepfather, I note. Jonah could have no memory of his real father, and Carter Hale’s been married to Jonah’s mother for almost three decades. Most kids in that situation would wind up calling their stepfathers Dad. Not Jonah.

He continues, “Like most tourists in Hawaii, we went out to see the volcanoes. I hadn’t imagined you could get that close to the lava flow. When I saw it – glowing orange with heat, pure liquid stone –” To my surprise, he grins. “I was ten, so I thought it was totally cool.”

I laugh out loud. “So that’s how you picked your scientific specialty? Because it was cool?”

“Any scientist who tells you something different is lying. If you’re going to spend your entire life studying something, it needs to thrill you. Volcanoes and earthquakes thrilled me when I was a kid, and they still do. Even after all the studies and the dissertation and months of looking at nothing but seismograph readings. I get a charge out of it every time.”

“Hey, they always say that if you do what you love, it doesn’t feel like work,” I say.

“Which is a crock.” When I raise an eyebrow at Jonah, his smile regains some of the fierceness I know so well. “If you spend twelve hours in a row doing something – anything – it feels like work.”

Laughing, I admit, “Okay, yes. The studio’s my favorite place to be, but there are times when I feel like if I go in there one more time, I’ll tear my hair out. Still, I’d rather go crazy making art than do anything else.”

Jonah nods. “That’s it exactly.”

“So you get to spend your whole life chasing lava.”

“And you’ll spend yours making art.”

“Yes and no,” I say. “After graduation I’m hoping to go into museum work. Preserving old etchings, curating important pieces, even using original plates from centuries ago to make new prints.”

He gives me a look. “You should do your own work. Not worry about taking care of someone else’s.”

“It’s not either/or. I’ll never stop creating my own work. But even if I set the entire art world on fire, it’ll be years before I can support myself through my etchings alone – if ever. So there’s going to be a day job for a while, probably a long while. Should I do something boring that sucks my soul away one day at a time? Or should I surround myself with some of the greatest etchings of all time, and help other people understand how amazing they are?”

After a moment, Jonah nods. “When you put it that way, okay. I see it.”

Then his hand brushes against mine. At first I think he’s drawing me aside as we go past a group of college kids drunkenly weaving along the sidewalk. After they pass, though, he adjusts his grip, twining our fingers together.

Jonah Marks has screwed me hotter and dirtier than any other man ever has – and yet my heart flutters like a girl’s as he holds my hand for the first time.

Tracey’s Review

I have to admit that, given the clearly stated warnings about the presence of serious emotional triggers, I was hesitant about reading this book. Even given all of this, I am glad that I took the risk, because Asking For It is one of the best books that I’ve read this year. It is tightly written and well-crafted, has a plot that immediately hooked me, has great character progression, and ends in such a way that ensures I am absolutely going to read Begging For It (Book 2).

While I can’t claim to understand what drives Vivienne in her needs, I can appreciate that both she and Jonah approach their relationship with very clearly defined rules, if not complete openness and honesty. And, while what they are doing is by no means romantic, it is most assuredly hot. Disturbing at times, to be sure, but these two make twisted look intriguing, if that’s possible. And, of course, given the intimacy required in this sort of set-up, feelings can’t but evolve to include more than passion and filling a very specific need. I am very interested to see where Lilah takes us in Begging For It, but, in the meantime, give Asking For It 5 ‘thought-provoking, takes me out of my comfort zone, can’t wait for the next one’ stars.

Synopsis

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Princess Diaries series, comes the very first adult installment, which follows Princess Mia and her Prince Charming as they plan their fairy tale wedding–but a few poisoned apples could turn this happily-ever-after into a royal nightmare.

For Princess Mia, the past five years since college graduation have been a whirlwind of activity, what with living in New York City, running her new teen community center, being madly in love, and attending royal engagements. And speaking of engagements. Mia’s gorgeous longtime boyfriend Michael managed to clear both their schedules just long enough for an exotic (and very private) Caribbean island interlude where he popped the question! Of course Mia didn’t need to consult her diary to know that her answer was a royal oui.

But now Mia has a scandal of majestic proportions to contend with: Her grandmother’s leaked “fake” wedding plans to the press that could cause even normally calm Michael to become a runaway groom. Worse, a scheming politico is trying to force Mia’s father from the throne, all because of a royal secret that could leave Genovia without a monarch. Can Mia prove to everyone–especially herself–that she’s not only ready to wed, but ready to rule as well?

Third Floor Apartment

Consulate General of Genovia

New York City

I don’t know what’s happening to me. I lie when I should tell the truth, and tell the truth when I should lie.

Like half an hour ago, when Dr. Goldberg, the newly appointed “royal physician,” was here, and asked if I’ve been under any “unusual” stress lately.

I laughed and said, “Gosh, no, Doctor, none that I can’t think of.”

You would think Dr. Goldberg might have noticed the hordes of paparazzi gathered outside the consulate doors when he came in.

But no.

Instead, he said I shouldn’t be concerned about the fact that my left eyelid has been twitching pretty much nonstop for the past week, which is why I asked for an appointment in the first place.

According to Dr. Goldberg, this sort of thing “happens all the time, and is not at all indicative of a brain tumor or stroke.”

Then he suggested I stop putting my symptoms into iTriage, and instead get “plenty of sleep and exercise.”  Oh, and I might try eating healthier.

Sleep?  Exercise? Who has time to sleep or exercise?  And how am I supposed to eat healthier when I’m literally trapped by the press inside the Genovian consulate and can only order food from places that deliver near the United Nations (which are basically steak houses, Chinese, or gyros)?

It wasn’t until he was packing up his medical equipment that I realized Dr. Goldberg was immune to sarcasm and really intended to leave without writing me a prescription.

So I said, “The truth is, Doctor, I have been feeling a little stressed. You might have heard about my recent family difficulties which have led to . . .”

I pointed meaningfully out the window to the throng of paparazzi waiting below. Dominique, the director of Royal Genovian Press Relations and Marketing, says if we don’t encourage them they will go away—like stray cats are supposed to, if you don’t feed them—but this isn’t true. I’ve never fed the press, and they still won’t go away.

“Oh, yes, yes, yes,” Dr. Goldberg said, seeming to realize things were a little out of the ordinary—like the fact that he was visiting me in the consulate instead of seeing him in his office hadn’t given it away. “Of course! But your father is doing very well, isn’t he?  All the reports I’ve heard say that he’ll most likely be given a slap on the wrist, and then he’ll be able to return to Genovia.  The press seem to find his little mishap with the law quite amusing.”

Little mishap with the law!  Thanks to my father’s decision to take a midnight jaunt down the West Side Highway in his brand new racecar, Count Ivan Renaldo, Dad’s opponent for prime minister, is ahead five points in the polls.  If the count wins, Genovia will be transformed from a charming medieval-walled microstate on the French Riviera to something that looks more like Main Street USA in Disneyland, with everyone strolling around in T-shirts that say, Who Farted?, eating giant turkey legs.

“Oh, Dad’s doing great!” I made the huge mistake of lying (I realize now).  This is what we’re supposed to tell the extended family and the media.  It is not the truth.  Royals are never supposed to tell the truth.  It isn’t done.

It’s for this reason that I think I’m losing my grip on my sanity and can no longer tell the difference anymore between what’s real and what’s a façade for the sake of the media (iTriage says this is called disassociation and is generally used as a coping mechanism to manage stress).

“Wonderful!” Dr. Goldberg cried. “And things are going well between you and—what is the young man’s name?”

I swear Dr. Goldberg must be the only person in the entire Western Hemisphere who doesn’t know Michael’s name.

Is Michael Moscovitz the world’s greatest lover? ‘YES!’ says sex-mad Princess Mia, declares the cover of this week’s InTouch.

Michael’s dad thought this was so hilarious, he bought dozens of copies to give to his friends and even his patients.  Michael has asked him to stop, but his dad won’t listen.

“You really expect me not to buy this?” Dr. Moscovitz asked.  “My son is the world’s greatest lover!  It says so right here.  Of course I’m going to buy this!”

This could be the reason for my twitch.

“Michael,” I said to Dr. Goldberg.  “Michael Moscovitz. And yes, everything’s fine between us.”

Except of course since I’m being held a prisoner in my current home by the paps—I had to move out of my old apartment last year on account of my stalker, who calls himself RoyalRabbleRouser and likes to say he’s going to “destroy” me.  The consulate is the only building in Manhattan guarded 24/7 by military police specially trained in the protection of a royal—Michael and I hardly ever get to see one another.

And then when we do, we mostly just lay around and watch movies on Netflix,  because leaving the consulate is such a pain, unless I want to hear all sorts of horrible questions hurled at me on my way to the car:

“Mia, is that a baby bump or did you just have too much of that falafel we saw delivered an hour ago?”

“Mia, how does it feel to know Kate Middleton wore it better?”

“Mia, did you tell your dad not to bend over in the showers?”

“Mia, why hasn’t Michael put a ring on it?”

I tried to show Michael my twitch earlier on Facetime, but he said my eye looked perfectly normal to him.

“If you’re twitchy, though, Mia, it’s probably in nervous anticipation at the prospect of going out with me, the world’s greatest lover.”

“I thought we agreed we weren’t going to read our own press,” I reminded him.

“How can I help it?” he asked. “Especially since my erotic powers seemingly extend all the way to the Upper East Side, where they’ve rendered you sex mad.”

“Ha, ha, ha. You probably planted that story yourself.”

“You’ve grown so jaded and cynical since I last saw you.  But really, Mia,” he said, finally getting serious.  “I think you’re just stressing too much about all of this.  I’m not saying things aren’t bad—they are. But maybe all you need is to get away for a day or two.”

“Away? How am I possibly going to get away?  And where am I going to go that the press can’t follow me and ask about my alleged baby bump or how my dad looks in his orange jumpsuit?”

“Good question. Let me work on it.”

I know he’s just trying to help, but really, the idea of getting away with Dad in so much trouble and the country in such an uproar and the election so close and Mom being a new widow and Grandmère—oh, Grandmère!—as crazy as ever?

Plus my boyfriend having rendered me sex mad, of course.

No.  Just no.

But of course I couldn’t tell Dr. Goldberg any of this.  It’s like my lips have been frozen into a permanent smile by all my media training (and compartmentalizing of my feelings).

“Well, that’s fine then,” the doctor said, beaming.

Fine?  It’s so not fine. Was it really so wrong of me to think that maybe, possibly, the palace physician might give me a little something to keep my eyelid from jumping around like a Chihuahua at dinnertime, or at least help me not lie awake all night?

And then when I do manage to fall asleep I have nightmares, like the one I had last night that I was married to Bruce Willis, and whenever Bruce would get out of the shower, he would dry off his penis while singing the song “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.”

I can’t even tell Michael this.  How do you explain it to the kindly old physician they found who is still willing to do house calls?

You cannot.

“I’ll make sure the lab gets the blood and urine samples you insisted, Your Highness,” Dr. Goldberg said. “I should have the results in about a week.  But I have to say that medically, I doubt they’ll find anything wrong. Your pulse is strong, your skin tone looks even, your weight within the normal range for your height. Despite this twitch you say you have—which frankly I can’t see—and your fingernails, which I see that you bite, you seem to be glowing with health.”

Damn! He would notice my fingernails.  I must be the only female left on the entire planet who doesn’t get manicures because there’s nothing left of my fingernails to file, let alone paint.

“Maybe,” I said, trying to keep the eagerness out of my voice so I wouldn’t sound like one of those crazed oxy-addicts on the now sadly cancelled Intervention, “I should be written a prescription for a very mild mood stabilizer.”

“Oh, no,” Dr. Goldberg said.  “Nail-biting is a bad habit, but very common, and hardly worth treating psychopharmacologically.  The worst that could happen from compulsive nail-biting is that you might incur an infection, or pick up a pin worm.”

Oh my God. I am never biting my nails again. At least not before thoroughly washing them in antibacterial soap.

“What I suggest you try,” he added, as he packed up his bag, “is journaling.”

            “Journaling?”  Was he joking?

He was not.

“Why yes, I see you’ve heard of it. Journaling has been shown to reduces stress, and help with problem solving.  My wife keeps what she calls a gratitude journal.  She writes down three things every day for which she feels grateful, and keeps a dream journal, as well.  She says it’s helped tremendously, especially with her mood swings.  You should try it. Well, I’ll be in touch in about a week about that blood work.  Good day, Princess!”

And then he left.

Which leaves me here.  Journaling.

Why couldn’t I have lied to make myself seem more pathetic so he’d have written me a prescription for an anti-anxiety medication, or at least a low dose sleeping pill?  Even the veterinarian does this for Fat Louis when I take him on the private jet back and forth to Genovia, and Fat Louis is a cat.  Why does a cat get tranquilizers but the expensive concierge doctor we hired will not give them to me?

Of course if Fat Louis doesn’t take them, he revenge poops on everything, which is extremely problematic, especially when going through security (not that we have to do this because when you fly private they assume you aren’t going to blow up your own plane and don’t X-ray you or your baggage, which makes no sense. You would think by now that radical terror groups would have caught on to this and bought their own Lear jets, but apparently not).

But sometimes they still spot check you, even if you’re royalty, and it’s quite embarrassing to have the cat you’re holding firing tiny brown missiles at the poor TSA workers as you’re going through the body scanner.

But honestly, if a cat can have pills that turn him into a sweet, mellow travel companion who doesn’t shit everywhere, why can’t I?

Oh, dear, I just read that over.  I’m not shitting everywhere, obviously. I just wouldn’t mind feeling a bit more mellow and getting some Bruce-Willis-free sleep once in a while.

I suppose it’s typical of my luck that we have the one concierge doctor in all of Manhattan who refuses to prescribe anti-anxiety medication.  I’m sure every other celebrity (and royal) is loaded up on them.

This would explain a lot about their behavior, actually.

But if “gratitude” and “dream” journaling really does help with stress, I’m willing to give it a go.

At this point, I’ll try anything.

Let’s see.  I already wrote down what I dreamed about.  Here are three things for which I feel grateful:

  • I don’t have a brain tumor.

  • My father didn’t die in that racecar incident.  Though given how reckless it was of him to have been in it in the first place, he probably deserved to.

  • Michael, the most understanding, handsome, witty, and forgiving boyfriend in the entire world (even if every once in a while lately I’ve noticed there’s something going on with his eyes, too.  Not a twitch.  More like something brewing in there.  If I still wrote historical romance novels—which I had to give up, because I do not have the time for all that research what with all my public speaking and running the center—I would describe it as a “haunted shadow.”)

I know it’s selfish, but I hope to God if there’s anything off with him, it’s because he’s passing another kidney stone, like the one he had last May—even though he said it was the most painful thing he’d ever experienced in his life—and not because he’s thinking about breaking up with me. I’m sure he’d like to experience a normal relationship with a girl who can casually leave work on a Friday night to meet for drinks at a bar without first having to have it checked for bombs or be escorted by bodyguards or followed by a phalanx of photo-hungry press.

But I love Michael and I will seriously lose my shit if he dumps me.

Michel’s Review

I still believe in Fairy Tales. I still want the Princess to find her Prince Charming and live happily ever after. I think most females, young and old, appreciate this kind of fairy tale. We don’t care if the Princess may not be perfect, we might want our Prince Charming to be a little bit of a rebel, and we don’t care if their romance is a little rocky at times. We want the magic of the romance.

I began reading this series many years ago with my daughter right before she began middle school. Together we have followed Mia’s journey from a awkward tween to a confident young woman. We’ve watched her experience all the growing pains that go along with becoming a woman. We’ve also watched her go from your average American girl to royal princess. She has had many blunders but also had many triumphs. And like the country of Genovia, we have fallen in love with Princess Mia Thermopolis.

The Princess Diaries started out as YA and progressed to mature YA. The latest release, Royal Wedding, is New Adult romance.

Princess Mia Thermopolis is now 26. She has found her place in the world. She has embraced her royalty with grace (most of the time). She has gone from an awkward quiet girl to a woman with a voice. She has learned to step up and make decisions. She has learned that life isn’t a strait line. She has struggled along the way. She has learned life lessons. She has experienced heartbreak as well as joy. She has held onto her childhood friends and made new ones along the way. Through it all she has remained true to herself. She is still the same Mia Thermopolis we have always loved.

Princess Mia is marrying her first love Michael Moscovitz.

The events that lead up to the royal wedding will have the readers laughing, crying, and swooning. Michael will steal your heart. He makes Prince Charming pale in comparison. He has been dubbed “The World’s Greatest Lover” and his dad has dozens of magazines to prove it. The best part about Michael is that he loves Mia just as she is. He doesn’t care if she is a princess or a regular woman. She is his heart.

Whether you are a long time fan of the Princess Diaries series or have only seen the movie, you can easily pick this book up and become immersed in Mia’s story. This book is magical.

Once again Meg Cabot has charmed the readers with her beautiful, funny, wonderful Princess Diaries. Be sure not to miss the Royal Wedding.

The Princess Diaries will always be one of my all time favorite series.

“You’re here.” His voice cracked and in that moment she knew this wasn’t meant to be a good-bye. But knowing where he’d spent the night, she wasn’t about to jump into his arms.

“You summoned me so nicely, I couldn’t say no.”

Seemingly oblivious to her sarcasm, he gave an almost imperceptible nod and then his face tightened. “No strippers.”

Dawn swallowed hard. Well versed in biker politics, she knew she couldn’t challenge him in front of his brothers. Not even a lady could do that. But despite her lack of status, this was their first public interaction and everyone was watching. She couldn’t disrespect him, but she didn’t have to toe the line either, especially if this was their last time together. Arianne would never have tolerated Jagger sleeping with anyone else.

“I don’t go to watch. I’m just there to drink and talk with the girls.” She threw his words back at him, then stood and closed the distance between them, working her dress like she just couldn’t wait to get him into bed. “Watching all those sweaty, ripped guys, dancing and showing off their tackle, makes a girl all kinds of hot.” She breathed out the last word and ran her hands along her curves, then looked up at him through the thicket of her lashes. “We wouldn’t want that, now, would we?”

Cade’s heated gaze drifted down her body, then up again. He licked his lips and beckoned her toward him, his voice dropping to a husky growl. “How hot?”

She slid one hand over her hip, her fingertips dangling suggestively over her mound, and trailed her free hand down the vee of her dress to the crescents of her breasts. “Ditch the panties and take care of business in the restroom hot.”

Tank and T-Rex whooped in delight. Arianne snorted a laugh. Cade choked back a grunt, and then his lips thinned. “You wanna go see strippers, I go with you.”

“What are you going to do in a bar full of male strippers?” she teased, stopping close enough for him to appreciate the low-cut neckline, but not close enough for him to touch.

“I’m gonna be there to fucking take care of business.” He reached for her and she turned out of his grasp, giving him a naughty glimpse of her bare back before facing him again.

“So does that mean when you go to Peelers, I can come, too?” She met his smoldering gaze and licked her lips. “Just in case there’s business that needs to be taken care of?”

Cade growled low in his throat and then he pounced, yanking her against his chest. “You got business to take care of right fucking now.”

Dawn pressed her hips against the bulge in his jeans. “If you’re wanting something,” she said softly, “and I feel you are, maybe you should have turned down the hospitality last night.”

She heard murmurs of appreciation from behind her, male and female, and her lips quivered with a repressed smile. Damn this was fun, but she had a point to make, too. She might not be an old lady, but she wasn’t a sweet butt, either, willing to sleep with any of the bikers in exchange for their protection and a place to stay. And if they were to have any sort of future together, which it sounded like he wanted, but which she still hadn’t decided was a good idea, she wanted the kind of respect she hadn’t had with Jimmy. And that respect wouldn’t come if he thought it was okay to spend the night in another woman’s bed.

Cade’s arm tightened around her, almost cutting off her air. “What happens on the road, sweetheart . . .”

“Isn’t anywhere near as good as what could have happened upstairs in your room, honey.” She arched her back and hooked one arm around his neck, her breasts lifting for his viewing pleasure, and then she lowered her voice to a soft whisper only he could hear. “But maybe you weren’t interested in seeing what’s under this dress. I love lingerie, but some men just don’t get off on red lace garter belts—”

“I didn’t fucking touch her.”

Yes!

“I’m happy to hear that.” Dawn leaned up to kiss him, but as soon as her lips brushed over his, he lifted her and threw her over his shoulder.

“Time to take care of business.”

3.5Star jpgMichel’s Review

Beyond The Cut by Sarah Castille is the second book in The Sinner’s Tribe MC series.  It is a gritty, sexy, and intense story that I would recommend to MC Romance fans.  It is not a light and censored romance.  Sarah Castille paints a very vivid picture of the MC world and their rivals.

Dawn has dealt with the MC world most of her adult life.  She married a biker at the age of sixteen.  She thought she was building a strong family unit.  Instead she is in an abusive relationship and fears not only for her life but the life of her twin girls.  When she tries to flee her husband and start a new life , the power of MC rules over her life.  She loses custody of her children and has limited visitation.  Her ex husband refuses to let go of her.

Dawn moved to a town where her husband’s rival MC resides.  He can’t get her in this territory.  She is done with the MC world.  The only problem is her attraction to Cade “Ryder” O’Connor.  He is a lifer in the Sinner’s Tribe MC.  He is an outlaw like her ex husband.  The only difference between the two in her mind is the patches on their cut.  That is until she gets to know Ryder.  He is everything her ex husband is not.  She can’t stay away from him.  But she knows she has to if she wants to get her daughters back.

The more Dawn gets involved with Ryder the deeper the cesspool of her life gets.  She is being blackmailed to ensure she can see her daughters.  She is being stalked and threatened by her ex husband.  There is a war brewing in the Sinner’s Tribe world.  Dawn may get caught up in it or become a causality of the war.  Can Ryder protect his club and his woman?

I enjoyed Beyond The Cut but I found a few things that didn’t quite sit right with me.  This book did not seem to have the comadery and brotherhood unity that most MC Romances have.  I didn’t really feel like the club was backing Ryder and that they were more concerned with the politics of the MC world.  They didn’t seem to care that women and children could be causalities.  I also felt like Dawn spent more angsting over Ryder rather than her children.  When the danger prevailed it seemed like the children were an afterthought.  Otherwise Beyond The Cut was a good biker romance.  I would recommend this book and the Sinner’s Tribe Motorcycle Club series.
