Release Blitz + Excerpt: The Fix Up by Kendall Ryan

banner-available-now

the-fix-up-kendall-ryanFrom New York Times Bestseller, Kendall Ryan, comes a sexy new standalone novel.

My tempting, and very alpha friend Sterling Quinn is someone I consider off-limits.

It’s not just that we’re friends, he’s also cocky, confident, and British, which means he’s a walking aphrodisiac.

But lately he’s been giving me the look. You know the one. When he thinks I’m not paying attention, and his gaze lingers for too long.

And then we start working together, and that’s when the sexual tension between us gets so thick, I want to hack through it with a machete. I want to make all these deep feelings I’ve harbored for him disappear, because there’s no way this can end well.

The lines between business and pleasure become irrevocably blurred, and I’m stuck between a rock, and Sterling’s very, very hard place.

Rather than keep a level head about our growing attraction, Sterling wants to go all in, showing me just how explosive we can be together.

But I’ve been around long enough to know that this British bad boy is more than my heart can handle. I’m not about to be cast aside like yesterday’s underwear when he’s done having fun.

Sterling’s never been told no, and he’s not about to put his ego aside and play by my rules. But I never thought he’d fight so dirty.

I twist the doorknob, and finding it unlocked, let myself inside.

Sterling’s place is compact, but modern and classy. It suits him. After a quick glance around the living space, I spot him on the balcony outside, just beyond the glass doors at the far end of the living room. He’s facing away from me, his hands gripping the railing, his head bowed.

My smile from moments ago is gone. Seeing him like this—looking distraught—brings the reality of our situation crashing back.

Sterling suddenly turns and we lock eyes. A thousand emotions are revealed in his eyes, but mostly there’s anger. There’s also a sadness in his gaze that I’ve never seen. It’s haunting.

I swallow a lump in my throat, wondering what’s going on.

“Sterling?” I ask, slowly approaching the balcony.

It’s beautiful—plush pillows and twinkling lights, and a chilled bottle of white wine all nestled together in a romantic picnic for two.

He lets out a heavy sigh and runs one hand through his hair.

“This is beautiful,” I say since he hasn’t spoken, hasn’t even moved from the spot where he’s rooted, and his stony silence is killing me. “Are you okay?”

“Just fine,” he says curtly, his gaze looking past me.

He doesn’t seem fine. He seems off. Why go through all the effort if he’s just going to act sullen and withdrawn?

And what could have possibly changed in the twenty-four hours since we last spoke on the phone? He seemed so excited—like he hadn’t a care in the world. Now it seems he doesn’t want me here.

“If this is a bad time, if tonight doesn’t work . . .” I trail off, my voice suddenly shaky.

“The meal’s already prepared.” He brushes past me, headed toward the kitchen.

Unsure what to do, I follow behind him.

He’s acting like an asshole, and I suddenly feel so stupid for getting all done up tonight. I’m not going to stand around and embarrass myself by begging for his attention.

“You know what? Never mind. This was a bad idea, anyway. I’ll see myself out.” I turn and head for the front door, anger and rejection dueling inside me.

It takes all of three seconds before Sterling’s long strides catch him up to me by the door. His grip around my wrist stops me. “Wait.”

I turn and face him. I’m halfway between wanting to flee and staying to hear his explanation.

He releases a heavy exhale. “I received a phone call just before you arrived.”

With him so near, the combination of his clean soap and his spicy cologne intoxicates me. Memories of our intimate dinner rush back. But apparently tonight is not meant to be a repeat. Waiting to see what he’ll say next, I inhale and hold my breath.

When he doesn’t continue, I ask, “Is everything okay?”

Release Blitz + Excerpt + 5 Star Review: Burning Bond by Emma Hart – Holly Woods Files Series – Book 6

burning-bond-banner-nowavail

BurningBond_FINAL-ebooklgBrody Bond. The youngest homicide detective in Holly Woods. My best friend’s younger brother.

Off. Freaking. Limits.

I’ve told myself that for the past five years, and I’m going to keep telling myself that. Besides—I’m kind-of dating Jason. I don’t need Brody. I shouldn’t even want him, but want him, I do.

Not that I have time to think about it. With Noelle and Drake in Mexico for two weeks, I’m holding down the fort at Bond P.I. Or I was… until I stumbled upon a young woman who’d been attacked while walking my dog.

Jason thinks it’s the latest in a long line of gang-rapes happening across three states. Brody thinks I’ve added a target to my back. Getting to the bottom of it is at the top of my to-do list.

Two men, both determined to protect me.

I think I could love one. I’m almost certain I’m in love with the other.

Ride or die just got a whole lot realer.

“Danger! Danger! Danger!” Gio screams. “Danger! Neenaw neenaw neenaw!”

“Jesus Christ, Nonna!” Brody yells, rubbing his ear. “What the hell is that?”

Nonna stops. “He-a likes CSI.”

I blink. Gio watches CSI?

“You let your parrot watch murder TV shows?” I ask.

Si. He-a likes it.”

“Neenaw neenaw neenaw!” Gio flaps his wings.

“What is the neenaw about?” I say quickly when he stops.

“He-a is-a a police-a car,” Nonna says in the kind of dry tone that says I should know that.

Like it’s totally fucking normal for a parrot to pretend to be a police car.

“Nonna, you need a quieter pet,” Brody tells her. “That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.”

She snorts. “He will-a learn-a a fire engine next!”

“I’m leaving.” I grab my purse and stand up.

Nonna grabs my arm, stands me up, and spins me toward the dining room—and away from the wannabe siren with a heartbeat. “No. You-a must-a help me.”

“Nonna,” I say gently, hoping to placate her and trying not to think about the fact that I dropped my purse on the floor. “They haven’t set a wedding date. This can wait until they’re home.”

She shakes her head. “No. She-a does-a not-a care about-a napkins!”

I don’t blame her. I’m not gonna lie. I don’t care about napkins, either. At least, not right now. There are far bigger things to worry about.

“Neenaw!” Gio cries through the house.

Brody slams the dining room door, cutting him off. “That goddamn bird, Nonna.”

Nonna clasps her hand to her chest. “Take-a it-a back!”

“I’m going to damn you if you don’t get on with this. I’m supposed to be on a lunch break, not a torture break,” he grinds out. He grabs the samples and, flicking through them halfheartedly, selects the most god-awful pattern I’ve ever seen. “Here. This is nice.”

“If you’re blind,” I say sarcastically, reaching across and taking them from him.

It’s even uglier at closer look. I don’t know what Nonna was drinking when she picked these, but it must have been Moonshine or something. I can’t even describe the vile mixing of lace and satin on that swatch.

“One of these three.” I pull them from the clip and put them on the table. “Trust me. I’m not being responsible for Noelle having to wipe her mouth with a napkin that looks like it lost a fight with a paper shredder and a glue stick.”

“What’s wrong with the one I picked?” Brody asks me indignantly.

I cast my gaze upward. “It looks like it lost a fight with a paper shredder and a glue stick,” I say slowly so he gets every word. “No. I’ll be held responsible, and it’s not happening.”

Nonna wrinkles her nose as she puts her glasses on and examines the swatches I’ve handed her. Honestly, if she brings them any closer to her face, she’ll be able to feel them. Then she selects a fourth.

“I like-a this one.”

“No,” I say firmly. “One of these.” I hand her the best three.

Brody groans. “Why can’t she just use paper napkins?”

Tracey’s Review

Noelle Bond and her fiancé Drake have finally taken a much-needed vacation, leaving Bek in charge of Bond P.I., and Bek is sure that she’ll screw it up in like, oh, zero seconds. But with the help of the rest of the office gang, things are actually going all right. Until. Yep, always that one little word. Before she knows it, Bek finds herself right in the middle of one heck of a scary case, and soon both Brody Bond, Noelle’s policeman brother, and Bek’s longtime crush, and Jason Walters, FBI agent, and Bek’s sometime boyfriend, are going head to head to solve it.

I absolutely love the Holly Woods series by author Emma Hart. Emma manages to bring it every single time, to write a story that both engages and entertains non-stop. The fact that there is a lot of kick-butt mystery solving mixed in with the romance, characters that are larger than life (yes, Nonna, I’m talking about you!), sexy heroes and women that aren’t afraid to say what’s what, all combine to make this one of my favorite series to read.

Although she figures prominently in all of the books in the series, BURNING BOND is truly Bek’s story. When Bek becomes a prime witness in a series of shocking crimes, she puts herself right in harm’s way. Both Brody and Jason, never the best of friends, and even less so recently because of their feelings for Bek, are working to solve the case before more people die.

One of the reasons that this book, and series, is such a win for me is the personalities of the characters. They are vibrant, funny, snarky, and strong, and the dialogue is truly a testament to Emma’s skill as an author. She’s created a world that it’s both easy and enjoyable to get lost in, and keeps me coming back time and again.

The triangle between Bek, Brody, and Jason finally gets resolved in BURNING BOND, so, yay! I mean, while it’s kind of hot the way that the two alpha-y guys have been fighting over her in their own way, it’s nice to see Bek with the one that she truly belongs with. Because, heat? Oh, yeah. Love? Loads of it. Emma has brought her usual A-game with this book, which is an easy 5-star read, one that should definitely be added to your TBR, along with the rest of the series. And, get cracking with that, because TWINED BOND, the 7th and final book in the Holly Woods series releases just next month, and you wouldn’t want to be unprepared for that. Happy reading!

GET A QUICK PEEK:

The rhythmic pounding of the man running for his life in between Sugar’s and Lexi’s treadmills was more than enough up-close proof that Bishop O’Kane was as physically fit as his profile said. This gym catered to professional bodybuilders but was empty with the exception of one other person and staff. It was elite and niche, and Sugar had basically used her pregnant stomach and her hormones to get them a day pass.

Not exactly Titan-level detective work, but this was more a girl’s trip than anything else… right? Her phone buzzed as she and Lexi walked lazily on either side of their unknowing target.

Lexi: What have we learned? I’m bored.

Sugar: I was bored at home. This was something to do.

Lexi: Right.

Lexi: I think he knows we know each other.

Lexi: Shoot! He’s looking at both of us.

Lexi: SUGAR!

Sugar got off her treadmill and walked calmly to the bathroom. The second she was out of sight, she pulled her phone back out.

Sugar: Do I have to teach you how to creep up on a dude!?!?

Lexi: Maybe…

She tittered to herself. Well, that was probably true. For as hot as Lexi was, she was clueless when it came to the art of flirting. Though they weren’t flirting. But still, spying on a guy took a certain level of finesse that Lexi didn’t have.

Sugar: We need a new game plan.

Sugar: Does he still look suspicious of us?

Sugar: Hello?

Sugar: Hey, Thelma, it’s Louise. Why’d you go radio silent?

Lexi: We have a problem

Sugar: On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 is we need to hit the pancake house again, and 10 is I have to hit up GUNS for the ammo Jared wouldn’t let me have, gimme a number.

She grabbed her bag from a locker and wrestled out of her exercise pants and back into leather pants, which—thank the Lord for maternity adaptation—were more comfortable.

Sugar’s screen blinked with the text.

Lexi: 10. 10. 10.

Sugar: Easy, killer. On my way.

But the text wouldn’t send. The little circle kept circling. No signal. Ugh. What the hell? She pushed out the door to find the hallway dark. A tickle of adrenaline crept up her neck, and she slowed her pace.

“Hello?” A Russian accent called into the bathroom where she had just been.

Training and instinct made Sugar drop to the floor, listening to the voice continue to call and the person go in and out of the locker rooms and whatever rooms were down the other hallway.

Her pulse picked up. She could feel the blood thumping in her neck and in her stomach, which was a change from the norm. But all in all, this was no different than creeping like a shadow on any other job. Except she didn’t know who or what she was dealing with, and she had to hide what felt like an additional few feet of her stomach from view while trying to figure out what the double deuces was happening.

She tried her cell phone again. Shoot. She got nothing but a spinning circle and a no service signal. Clearly, somewhere in the building was a cell-phone jammer, which meant this was more of a professional job than a slam-and-bam robbery.

Okay… what to do?

Slinking down the hallway, she heard no exercise equipment clinking and clanking. No men throwing heavy things. No people grunting as they lifted heavy objects for personal enjoyment. There was only the empty blare of music that, now that all was abandoned and quiet, played far too loud. Her phone continued to cycle without a signal, and Sugar’s eyes searched for signs of anyone in the building—most importantly, Lexi. And where had that searching Russian man gone? She needed a weapon. Fast.

She checked her phone again.

Nope. The hell with it. She tucked it in her back pocket. Across the open floor were hand weights. She could grab a few jump ropes or one of the calisthenics bars while she was there. But crossing the gym was too dangerous. With a view of nothing but treadmills, elliptical machines, and stair climbers, she had nothing but magazines to smack a bad dude with. Nothing deadly.

So the plan for the moment was to keep against the wall and head for the main desk. Surely there was a pair of scissors. A stapler. Hell, she could be deadly with a phone cord. All she needed was the right angle. But really, Sugar stressed about Lexi.

She crept around another corner of the main gym. No one was there.

No Lexi. No Bishop. No random meatheads. No guy with a Russian accent searching for rogue people hiding and creeping.

“What is going on?” Her pulse pounded in her neck, and confusion covered every thought. Only Emergency Exit signs illuminated the room, and the place was eerie.

Her quiet question went unanswered, and the baby took that moment to kick. “Easy, tater tot. I’ve got this.”

Get a Sneak Peek:

Through the next ten slides, Chloe shows us exactly how brilliant she is, while I struggle to grasp the landscape of the meeting. She walked in here with a fringe idea and a slim chance of convincing Andrew McCormick to invest on the scale she wants.

And now they’re talking New Orleans, San Francisco, and—

“Rio would be a great target for 2018,” Chloe says, sitting down across from Andrew, tapping the end of a pen against the front of her teeth. “What about Tokyo for 2020?”

“The Olympics!” Andrew and Amanda say at the same time, then laugh.

“We’re getting ahead of ourselves,” I declare.

“You’re not convinced I’m worth taking a chance?” Chloe asks, her nose twitching with amusement, that curled lip driving me mad.

“You’ve convinced me,” Andrew says, standing and finally looking at his phone. “Nick, make it happen.”

“What?”

“Give Chloe whatever she needs.”

“Whatever she needs?” I choke out in surprise. Quickly, I recover, face showing no emotion, even if my pulse and half the blood in my body has migrated below my belt and I can’t stop wondering what’s under that corset. One peek of a nipple is like being given a single sip of Hennessy cognac.

It’s great, but you want the whole thing in your mouth eventually.

God help me, her eyes meet mine and her smile widens.

Best. Job. Ever.

“Right. Chloe, why don’t you go back to your office for an hour or so, while Nick and Amanda and I hash out some details in the conference room. We’ll call you,” Andrew says, standing and reaching for her hand. The only hint of emotion in Chloe’s face comes from the micro-movements in her eyes. She is pleased.

I want to please her. And not just with Anterdec’s money.

In this business setting, she should be pleased. Sharp and perceptive, she’s turned the meeting around. A green light from Andrew McCormick isn’t easy to obtain, and she marched right in here in secret dominatrix lingerie and she did it. I am intrigued and a little spellbound.

Maybe I’m just lightheaded from the lack of blood flow to the brain.

She unmoors me, turning back decades, making me feel like an awkward, uncoordinated teen.

But with a man’s appreciation for all that goes into making her her.

“Nick?” Andrew’s clipped tone makes me realize I’m in my own head. Chloe’s standing before me, her nose twitching with amusement, the rest of her face revealing nothing.

“Great presentation,” I say, shaking her hand. My eyes float down to her rack.

“It’s an eyeful, isn’t it?” she jokes.

“Certainly impressive,” I confirm. “The graphs.” I need to dial this down. Andrew’s giving me looks that could peel paint. “You give great data.”

“I aim to be Good, Giving, and Game.”

“Isn’t that what Dan Savage says about sex?”

“It applies to business, too.”

“A universal set of tools.” She shrugs.

“Everyone can have the same tools, Nick. Tool acquisition? Anyone can do that. The real skill is in implementation.”

With that, Chloe Browne leaves me speechless, hard as a rock, and the object of my boss’s ire.

One hell of a hat trick.

Synopsis

Jane isn’t entirely sure that Cinderella got such a raw deal. Sure, she had a rough start, but didn’t she eventually land a prince and a happily-ever-after? Meanwhile, Jane is busy waiting on her demanding, entitled sisters, running her cleaning business, and . . . yep, not a prince in sight. Until a party and a broken shoe incident leave Jane wondering if princes—or at least, a certain deliciously hunky billionaire—maybe do exist.

Except Brock Wellington isn’t anyone’s dream guy. Hell, a prince would never agree to be auctioned off in marriage to the highest bidder. Or act like an arrogant jerk—even if it was just a façade. Now, as Brock is waiting for the auction chopping block, he figures it’s karmic retribution that he’s tempted by a sexy, sassy woman he can’t have. But while they can’t have a fairy-tale ending, maybe they can indulge in a little bit of fantasy . .

“Bentley!” Brock barked and shook his head.

“What?” Bentley shrugged then smoothly walked over to Jane and pulled out a box of black high-heeled pumps in a size eight and a half. “Your foot, milady?”

Brock rolled his eyes. “Give it a rest, Bentley. She can put on her own damn shoes.”

Bentley completely ignored him. “I love a woman’s foot.” He grabbed Jane’s broken shoe and tossed it to the side while his hands danced along the arch of her foot. His fingertips danced along her skin. Seduction by foot rub? That was new.

“It’s sexy, the arch.” He leaned over her, his lips parting just enough to give her the impression he was thinking about kissing her. “The curve of a woman’s foot reminds me of her body…see? Sexy.” He slid the shoe on a very terrified looking Jane and stood. “Perfect fit.”

Jane’s mouth opened then closed as a rosy flush crept over her face. “Th-thank you.”

“I bought you my favorite brand.”

Her eyebrows arched. How did he know about Manolo Blahnik? “Oh.” And then she nodded and said loudly, “Ohhhh! That makes sense!”

Bentley’s eyes narrowed. “Me buying women’s shoes?”

“You wearing them,” she explained. “That’s great. I mean, good for you. I’m sorry I’m so awkward at things like this, but it’s good you’re…you know…” She bobbed her head and sputtered. “Out and…comfortable with it.”

“Out?” Bentley repeated. “I’m confused.”

“Of the closet,” she said slowly then saw the scowl on Bentley’s face. “Or maybe you just like to dress like a woman?” She straightened her shoulders and tried again. “In either case, congratulations on your choice to wear women’s clothing!”

Brock about died laughing as Bentley’s horrified expression went from stunned to genuine confusion.

“You heard her.” Brock held his laughter in check. “Congratulations, brother. I’ll take care of the press release: Bachelor Playboy Bentley Wellington and his private women’s shoe collection.”

Bentley let out a strangled laugh. “Yes, and while we’re at it why don’t we remind the press that the clock is ticking on that auction of yours? Hmm?”

“Auction?” Jane asked.

“Don’t.” Brock shook his head. “You don’t want to know.”

“But she probably already does.” Bentley pointed out. “Unless she doesn’t read the news…?”

They both stared at her, waiting for an answer.

“I, uh…” She ducked her head, blushing again. “I read books.”

“How pure.” Bentley smiled and sat down next to her. “And just so we’re clear.” He leaned in as though he was going to kiss her. “My bat only swings one way…and I can assure you, every time I get thrown a pitch, I hit it out of the park.”

Looking for a fun loving, romp roaring fun fairy tale?  Do you love Cinderella?  Would you like to see Prince Charming a little bit flawed with a set of younger, crazy twin brothers that make his life more difficult.  Rather than having the kingdom handed to him, he has to be auctioned off the highest bidding princess.  Yet when he meets his Cinderella not only does she come with two evil sisters but also an evil Cock and a magical mule.

Brock Wellington has always been the yes man in his family.  His grandfather has decided that it is time for him to marry and show the board members and investors that the Wellingtons are stable businessmen.  His other two grandsons are not ready to take on the responsibility.  Brock is ready but doesn’t want a woman changing his life.  When he’s forced to become the hottest item on a charity bachelor auction, the press is having a field day.  The only thing he can do is hide out at the family ranch.

Jane was hired to get the Wellington ranch in order for the upcoming marriage of the oldest grandson. This is a golden opportunity to make some good money and get away from her spoiled, demanding sisters. It’s like a working vacation until  Brock Wellington shows up and interferes with her job. The only thing she can do is work around him. She doesn’t count on him being so charming yet beautifully flawed.  Nor did she count on his brothers showing up and playing cupid.  Dealing with three Wellington men can make a woman crazy. Their crazy pets are much easier to deal with.

Jane and Brock find love in a hopeless situation.  She is a real life Cinderella, the poor girl without a chance.  He is the determined Prince Charming.  He is going to find Jane her own fairy godmother to help her win him fair and square.

Jane and Brock never realized that Brock’s grandfather was the author of their fairytale romance.  He has his own fairy godmother doing her what she does best, meddling in the love lives of the next upcoming generations in the Titus & Wellington families.  Grandma Nadine ( from The Bet series) is on the job and working her magic.

This isn’t a Disney movie… it’s Grandpa Wellington’s and Grandma Nadine’s script.  Let the fun begin.  Look out Wellington twins, the fairy godparents have already waved their wands and set the world into a spin.

Rachel Van Dyken has once again made me laugh and swoon at the same time.  This book may not be overly angsty or dramatic, it is a purely delightful romance to lighten your day.

Everything about her turned him on. Pity she didn’t feel the same. Yet. “You never intended to win a date with me, did you?”

“Why would I buy the cow when the milk’s gone sour?”

“Because the cow has more fresh milk to produce, and it’s yours for the drinking?”

Ew. That’s disgusting.”

Ew. You have a dirty mind. A word to the wise, Mimi. If you screw with somebody, be prepared for them to screw you right back.”

“We tried that already, remember? Didn’t quite work out that way.”

“Oh, I definitely remember. Ready to finish what we started in Puerto Rico?”

“Hmmm. Let’s see.” She tapped her lips with two fingers. “Um. That would be a no.”

“What is it about me that you find so unpleasant? Because I have to say methinks the lady doth protest too much.”

“See there? That right there is what annoys me. You go around acting all suave and smooth and expecting everyone to fall at your feet. And I bet they do. Oh, I bet they do.”

She laughed, though he failed to see what aspect of this conversation was funny. Her reaction wasn’t just about him. Something had prompted her to feel this way about men, or about men like him. He wished he knew what.

“My guess is that you’ve gone through life flaunting your sexuality and throwing your fake-ass charm at everyone. It’s gotten you laid. It’s probably gotten you clients, too. But take away your good looks and sparkling personality, and what are you left with? I’ll tell you. Not much. And this lady doth prefer way more than not much.

EXCERPT:

He blocked her way but didn’t budge. Wet hair hung around her face, trickles of water sliding down her shoulders and disappearing into the towel. She looked so pretty, so sweet.

Caught in that magnetic force that always bound them together, neither one made a move. His hands fisted to keep from touching her. He wanted…what did it matter what he wanted?

And then she smiled, breaking the tension. She reached around him for her doorknob.

His heart pounded, his nerves vibrated. He wanted to say something to keep her, but he couldn’t keep her. He couldn’t have her at all.

Her door opened, and she stepped inside. She’d shut him out in one second, and he’d be stuck with Brittany, Todd, Joe, and Kevin for the night. For all the nights of his college life. And then he’d go home to his Colorado friends and sink back into the sameness, the ugliness of that life.

And this girl? She was like a portal to a whole different world. Fresh, clean, pure.

He could feel her warm body curving along his under the covers, smell her subtle, sweet scent, see the look in her eyes in the darkness just before they fell asleep—the soundest sleep he’d ever had in his life—and he wanted that. Wanted it so badly his body throbbed with it.

Excerpt

He turned to find Hope standing behind him. Again. “You sure move quiet when you want to.” Especially for a woman with a bum leg. Not that he could say as much without sounding like a jackass.

“You mean since I had my knee replaced.” Of course she knew what he meant anyway. Apparently damn near reading his mind was one annoying habit she hadn’t outgrown.

“I didn’t say that.”

“You didn’t have to.” She leveraged herself down next to him, the move not quiet as smooth as it’d been when she was eighteen.

Daniel almost cursed. He had to stop doing that. Comparing her now to how she was then wasn’t fair to either of them. It was another lifetime completely, and thinking about it was just fucking depressing. “Hope—”

“Are you seeing anyone?”

“No.”

“Why not?”

He was so surprised by the question that he answered honestly, “Why the fuck would I bother?”

“Oh, I don’t know, because you don’t want to be a creepy old man who lives in the middle of nowhere and has to run off silly high school kids with his shotgun because they tell ghost stories about him?”

He looked at her, half sure that she was the one who’d lost her damn mind. “That’s not a thing.”

“It is most definitely a thing.” She leaned back on her hands and stared at the sky. The most move arched her back and pressed her breasts against the fancy tank top she wore. It was made of some kind of drapey fabric that looked soft and shiny, and it highlighted the fact that he seriously doubted she was wearing a bra. “You’re too young to just give up.”

“It’s not about giving up.” Though he didn’t expect Hope to understand that. He’d checked up on her a few times since the accident, and every single time he was amazed at the things she’d accomplished. Life had kicked her in the teeth and she’d come back swinging. She’d taken two years off and then attended the University of Texas and graduated with honors. She ran her own successful consulting business to work with companies that wanted to set up scholarships and nonprofits.

She shifted to look at him. “It looks like giving up from where I’m sitting.”

4.5 Star

Tracey’s Review

***4.5 Heartbreaking, Sexy, Redemptive Stars***

Daniel Rodriguez has never forgiven himself for his part in the accident that cost the life of one of his best friends. Years have passed, and still, as far as he is concerned, the burden is his to carry. Hope Moore lost more than a brother that night thirteen years ago. She lost the one person that could have helped her navigate the pain of her suddenly empty world when Daniel turned his back on her, too mired in his own darkness to stand by her side, and Hope’s life has never been the same.

So, finally, we have it. I’ve been waiting for Daniel’s and Hope’s story. Because Daniel Rodriguez is all sorts of angsty, troubled, in-need-of-his-HEA cowboy, and I needed to see him get his happy back. And because Hope Moore has overcome many trials, but still has this one unhealed wound in her heart. And because a second-chance romance is near and dear to my heart, and this one has been thirteen Devil’s Falls years in the making.

The Foolproof Love series by author Katee Robert is one of my favorite this year. Katee has a way of writing that draws me in and snags me from page 1 every single time. I have so enjoyed both of the first books, and could not wait to read A FOOL FOR YOU, because I’ve had my eye on Daniel all the way through this series. I like a little bit of angst in my reads more times than not, and this book delivers in spades.

Daniel is still bearing the burden of guilt that started the night of the accident that claimed John’s life and badly injured Hope, John’s sister and the love of Daniel’s life. When Hope needed Daniel to be there for her, to help her adjust to her new normal, he was too full of self-blame to reach out, and so began the break that severed Hope’s and Daniel’s relationship and kept them apart for thirteen long years. But when Hope returns to Devil’s Falls to set up a scholarship in John’s memory, it takes less than no time for the flame between her and Daniel to roar back to life. The problem, though, is that so much time has passed, and Daniel still hasn’t forgiven himself. No matter, because the heart wants what the heart wants, and things get out of hand pretty quickly, leaving Hope and Daniel is a situation where they will be forever linked.

“Do you still love me, darling?”
Her breath stilled in her lungs, and her eyes went wide. The world tilted crazily around her like had last time she had the misfortune of being on a carnival ride. She hadn’t liked the experience any more then than she did now.
“What the hell kind of question is that?”
His smile was the very definition of smug.
“I thought so.”

Oh, heck, yes, the spark is still alive, and burning as hot as ever, but Hope isn’t sure that they can go back to the way that they were before. But despite the reservations of friends and family, despite the fact that Daniel can’t get out of his own way, he knows what he wants, and he knows that it’s Hope.

“We tried. We failed. Some things just aren’t meant to be.”
“You’re right…Some things aren’t. But we aren’t some things. A love like ours doesn’t come around more than once in a lifetime, and the fact we get a second chance to do it right is miracle enough. I don’t deserve a second chance-or third or fourth or whatever number chance we’re on now-but I’m here asking for it all the same.”

THUD. And, I’m done. And so is Hope, because, how in the world is she not going to give in to that?!

I’ll say it again, I loved this book, and I loved the series. My suggestion? Add them all to your TBR and get started. You can thank me later.
