Excerpt:

“We ate at the hotel.” Her lips twisted to the side. “Mind if I stick some stuff in my bag for later?”

A tiny wrinkle formed between Ian’s eyes, just below the long sweep of his black bangs. “There will be lots of food available later too. But…” he shrugged, leaning forward and resting his elbows on his knees “…take whatever you want.”

Jersey glanced over her shoulder at the food and the three other men in the room. She decided to wait a little while before shoving as much as possible into her bag like a free-for-all. “Thanks.” Jersey returned her attention to Ian. “So … you’re a singer. Like … are you a big deal?”

Every word she spoke seemed to feed his level of happiness. “Well …” He rubbed his chin, twisting his lips. “We play music. People like to listen to our music. But no … it’s not a big deal. We’re not saving lives or anything like that.”

She eyed him with suspicion for a few seconds. That smile of his didn’t feel worthy of complete trust. “Um … what exactly do you need me to do? What’s my job? They already took Chris. Will that big, bearded guy come for me too?” Jersey couldn’t remember his name.

“No.” Ian stood, pushing his elbows out from his shoulders, twisting side to side. “Tonight you are just going to watch the concert from backstage. Tomorrow night you’ll sell merchandise.”

“Drugs. You mean drugs, don’t you?”

Ian paused his stretching, letting his arms fall limp to his sides. “Merchandise—T-shirts, posters, keychains, phone cases, hats, guitar pics …”

“To who?”

“Fans.” Ian grinned. “Okay. I might have understated all of this to you … can you name a famous singer? Old or new. Doesn’t matter. Just a famous singer.”

“I had a foster parent who used to listen to Josh Groban.” Jersey gnashed her teeth, still feeling so much anger. Dena wasn’t just a foster parent; she was Jersey’s friend.

“Okay. Well, Josh has sold millions of records, and he’s a huge star in his genre of music. Thousands of people pack venues all over the world to see him sing live in concert. And they sell merchandise of his at those concerts.”

Jersey gazed unblinkingly at Ian as he scratched his jaw.

“Well, I sing a different genre of music, but I, too, travel the world, singing to sold-out concert venues, andI have people who sell my merchandise at these concerts.”

Jersey dropped her bag to her feet and planted her fists on her hips. “Listen, Coop. Stop talking down to me. I’m not an idiot. I know what a concert is. But earlier today you didn’t say what you did or what the job was you were offering. You bought a homeless person a hot dog and offered her a job. Of course, I’m going to think something sketchy might be involved.”

Tipping her chin up, she held her breath to puff out her chest, pretending the recent revelation of Ian Cooper being a famous singer didn’t faze her one bit. Inside, Jersey’s heart hammered into her ribcage, and her mind reeled trying to figure out the day’s events.

“Coop?” His lips twitched into a tiny grin.

“It’s short for Cooper.”

“Clearly.” Ian chuckled. “But my name is Ian. Everyone calls me Ian.”

“I busted the nose and jaw of a kid named Ian. He tried to stick his cock in my ass. I’ll call you Tom, Dick, or Harry, but I’m not calling you Ian because that makes me want to physically harm you.”

Ian’s eyebrows shot up his forehead as his head whipped back a few inches. “Coop it is.”

2019 Favorite

Wow!! What an incredible book! Jewel E. Ann has outdone herself and created an unforgettable, impressive story with unique characters that takeover your heart. Like most of her novels, she blends several tropes/ genres into a compelling novel that readers can’t put down. Every time I finish one of her novels I instantly say that was her best novel to date and that is an honest truth. What amazes me is that Jewel E. Ann keeps digging deeper and finding something new for her readers to consume. It’s no wonder that she is one of my all time favorite authors.

Jersey Six is unlike any novel. This story begins with a homeless woman, a badly scarred man, and a beautiful charismatic rock star. The one thing these three have in common is Marley’s Gym, a run down refuge for derelicts, criminals, and street rats. All three of these people have some kind of past connection to the old New Jersey neighborhood where Marley’s is located. Marley’s is being forced to close down in order for the city to redevelop and beautify the area. It is going to leave two of these people completely on the streets. A chance meeting at a hotdog stand leads to new beginnings, a new path in life for all three characters.

Jersey Six was abandoned as a child at the local fire station. She has spent her life in the foster care system. For fourteen years she spent her life moving from one home to another constantly enduring physical and sexual abuse. She finally landed in a good home with a family that wanted to adopt her, nuture her, and help her become a whole human being. For six months she belonged to a family until they were killed in a hit and run accident. Rather than going back into the system, she ran. For the last ten years she has done whatever it takes to survive. She has learned to rely on her wits, her knife skills, and ability to fight.

Chris Ten is a burn victim who has complete amnesia and severe PTSD. He has spent months in the hospital alone and abandoned. He doesn’t know where to go once he is released from the hospital. He ends up on the streets and ends up at Marley’s Gym, a place that seems familiar. Marley’s triggers a few memories. Meeting Jersey also triggers some memories. While his life is still a puzzle, he finally has someone in his corner. He has formed a close friendship with Jersey Six. They are family.

While Jersey is scraping together change for a hotdog leads to a chance meeting with the famous rock star Ian Cooper. A cute-meet leads to a job offer and opportunity of a lifetime. This chance meeting changes all of their lives in very different ways. Jersey won’t leave Chris behind.
A rag to riches story with severe PTSD and hidden truths, all three of these characters take a journey down memory lane and jump into the promise of adventure in the future but first they must accept the miracles and gifts of their present day reality.

I was so blown away by this book. The twists, turns, and raw emotions had me reeling. The choice of words and passages gave me absolute goosies! Every word clearly gave these characters the definition of what pure love really is.

Get ready to have your world rocked and soul consumed. Jersey Six has it all… romance, love, glamour, murder, arson, deception, revenge, lies, and broken souls.

When I was fifteen, a single bullet changed my life. I spent the next decade trying to outrun the devastation of my past, building an empire that would shield me from whatever life could throw at me.

But all the money in the world couldn’t help me when I found a screaming newborn abandoned on my doorstep.

I’d never wanted to be a father. Passing the sludge that ran through my veins down to an innocent child seemed like a tragedy. But there she was—pink cheeks, red hair, and mine.

Somehow, against all logic, that little girl became the best thing that ever happened to me. It was impossible to stay lost in the past when I was the only one who could protect her future.

Which is exactly why, when her mother came back four years later, I was ready for battle.

If only I could stop myself from falling in love with her during the war.

Every little girl dreams of the fairytale. The one where the white knight rushes in to save her from the clutches of evil. They fall in love, have babies, and live happily ever after.

By that definition, my life should have been a fairytale too.

When I was eight years old, Caven Hunt saved me from the worst kind of evil to walk the Earth. It didn’t matter that I was a kid. I fell in love with him all the same.

But that was where my fairytale ended.

Years later, a one-night stand during the darkest time imaginable gave us a little girl. It was nothing compared to the pitch black that consumed me when I was forced to leave her with Caven for good.

At the end of every fairytale, the happily-ever-after is the one thing that remains consistent. It wasn’t going to be mine, but there hadn’t been a night that passed where I hadn’t prayed that it would be hers.

I owed Caven my life.

However, I owed that innocent child more.

And that included ripping the heart from my chest and facing her father again.

Aly Martinez has delivered another page turner duet that has kept the readers burning up the pages. Not only does Aly deliver a steamy romance but also centers her story around the family unit. She also adds a heaping dose of romantic suspense which makes her stories stand out in the contemporary romance genre. I thoroughly enjoyed The Regret Duet and could not put either volume down.

Written With You was more than two people coming together and making their family work. There were earth shattering revelations on both sides of their families. The horrific incident they shared as children left more scares below the surface and threaten their lives once again. This time they have a child who is depending on them. She is more important than hanging onto the past and the secrets inside their baggage.

I have to say I was surprised at the direction this story took. I saw the romance coming, I figured out some of the secrets, but the big revelation and climax was a jaw dropper.

Aly Martinez is a multi-talented writer who always delivers a fantastic story.

I highly recommend the Regret Duet!

Storm and Fury by Jennifer L. Armentrout is the first book in her new Harbinger Series, a spinoff of the paranormal young adult Dark Elements Series. If you are looking for an action packed paranormal world filled with demons, angels, gargoyles, witches, and ghosts, the Harbinger series will deliver. Jennifer L. Armentrout has created an exciting world filled with unique characters, witty dialogue, sexy banter, emotionally charged situations that keeps the reader fully engaged to the very end and wanting more.

The Wardens ( Gargoyles) and others must protect the world from the demons who are trying to destroy the world.

Zayne, a Gargoyle protector, is tasked to protect Trinity, a child of mixed race that possesses special skills. Her skills make her a target for the demons. Protecting Trinity is a challenging task because she is not the easiest being to deal with. Zayne has the patience to deal with Trinity and the badies trying to get her.

What happens throughout this story will keep the readers glued to the pages. There are several supporting characters screaming for their own books. Thank goodness more books are coming!

It is not necessary to read the Dark Elements series in order to engage in the new Hairbinger series. The Hairbinger series can stand on it’s own. I highly recommend Storm and Fury by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Winter Flower

By Charles Sheehan-Miles

Release Date: June 22, 2019

Buy : Amazon

Goodreads:

d35c4-tastytoursbutton-goodreads

Synopsis:

From the bestselling author of Just Remember to Breathe and The Last Hour, a shocking and poignant story of a family on the brink of destruction and the transformational events that could bring them back together—or tear them apart.

Every day, Cole Roberts reminds himself that life wasn’t always this bleak. He was once passionately in love with Erin. Sam used to be an artistic and lively kid. They hadn’t always lived in a shabby two-room house in rural Alabama, where he runs a mediocre restaurant in the middle of nowhere.

That was before Brenna disappeared. It was before Cole lost his job and they lost their home.
Every day it gets worse. Erin drinks wine out of the bottle and spends her days with a tormented expression, searching the web for signs of their daughter. Sam hides in his room and rarely speaks. And Cole works himself to a stupor for a paycheck a fraction of the size of his old salary.

Until one day a phone call changes everything.

Winter Flower is at once a tragic tale of the disappearance of a child; struggling with gender identity; of the dark world of sex-trafficking and the transformation and healing of a family. Sheehan-Miles’s longest novel delves into the depths of family life—and how, sometimes, we can heal and find restoration.

*** 2019 Favorite ***

I was so excited when I saw that Charles Sheehan-Miles had a new book coming out.

Charles Sheehan-Miles is one of the best authors I have read. He has an incredible gift of creating characters who the readers immediately embrace as their own. His stories revolve around the family unit with all of the beautiful imperfections and emotional dysfunctions. He captures the reader’s attention with his astute choice of words and vivid descriptions. The reader becomes more than a mere witness to story unraveling, they become an emotional participant.

The story of the Robert’s family is more than losing a child. It’s a journey down the darkest paths while realizing the light isn’t necessarily at the end. The light comes from depending on each other and accepting the things they cannot change. The only thing that matters is their love for one another. It may not fix what’s been broken but it will soothe and strengthen their shattered souls. It will give them courage to move forward one step at a time.

Winter Flower follows each member of the family, switching from past to present. Each member of the family has a different perspective of the past and different way of coping in the present. It all began with the disappearance of their daughter, Brenna. Brenna disappeared on her sixteenth birthday. What should have been a special birthday turned into a horrific nightmare which would destroy their lives. What they didn’t realize was their lives were already on the path of destruction. Brenna’s disappearance was the final blow that tore their world apart. Two years later they are on a very different path trying to survive and rebuild their shattered lives. The only thing they are hanging onto is their tiny thread of hope.

It all begins in a small backward rural town in Alabama. Cole Roberts is working at a Waffle House. He’s struggling to pay the bills and take care of his family after the loss of his daughter. He not only lost his daughter but also his home, his career and six figure salary. His wife has moved from resentment to pure indifference to him. She has chosen the wine bottle to silence her grief. His son Sam has become withdrawn and spends too much time locked away in his room playing computer games. He has become an awkward social recluse and a target for the bullies in his new school. In a sense he has also become a missing child even though he’s physically present. Brenna has been missing for two years and the FBI has moved it to the cold case stack. The only thing they have left is their hope.

Then one day the phone rings with a new lead that finally changes their paths once again. The biggest difference this time is they are walking into the darkness with their eyes wide open. At least they are together with the knowledge they may never find the light. They just need to hang onto each other along the way.

Charles Sheehan-Miles was brutally honest and delivered the harsh realities of this story’s life situations and circumstances. He didn’t sugar coat the ugliness, he made the reader truly feel it. At the same time he instilled hope and clearly illuminated the goodness dwelling below the surface. Although this story had a horrific situation it also had a beautiful message. The resilience of the human soul with the capacity to love, accept, and forgive is what hope truly is.

Winter Flower was more than a novel to be witnessed by the reader. Winter Flower demands the reader become an emotional participant from beginning to end. Long after the last word is read and the book is closed, the reading experience will live on in the heart of the reader.

I highly recommend reading Winter Flower by Charles Sheehan-Miles.

Exquisitely Broken is a second chance romance set in the glittery world of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Four years ago, one bad decision irrevocably destroyed a six-year relationship. There are some mistakes you can’t get over, some things that an apology can’t fix.

Sinclair James walked away from Jacob Johnson with her heart in pieces and her pride in shreds. She took the pain of betrayal and harnessed it, turned it into a bestselling album that changed her life. She was no longer the girl defined by what she didn’t have because she had everything, money, fame, an award-winning album. But there was always something missing. Some small shard of what use to be.

Now she’s back, her band unknowingly signing a yearlong residency to work for a new hotel on the Las Vegas Strip and subsequently Jacob Johnson.

Back in the same city, working for the same hotel, sparks that had died to embers suddenly burst into flame. Jacob finally has a second chance to remind Sinclair just how good they were, just how good they can be again.

This time he refuses to her go. He can’t. He works to prove to Sinclair he’s worth a second chance. That sometimes love can be enough to erase a disastrous past and embrace a promising future.

History seems to repeat itself as outside forces seem determined to keep them apart. But in the end their love proves strong enough to overcome the past and blaze the way for their future.

Michel’s Review

Exquisitely Broken is the debut novel by M. Jay Granberry.

Jacob Johnson and Sinclair James are broken from their past relationship which ended in pain and heartbreak beyond repair. Ten years later they are forced to face one another. Jake wants Sin back and is determined to win her heart once again. He’s willing to beg for forgiveness and prove he is worthy of her love. His deceptions destroyed her naïve heart. Losing her was the lowest and most unforgettable part of his life.

M. Jay Granberry had me experiencing every emotion and every ounce of pain both these characters felt. I became fully invested in their story even though I had a hard time forgiving Jake for his indiscretions. I admired his persistence and sincerity. I felt his undeniable love for Sin.

Exquisitely Broken by M. Jay Granberry is the perfect story of love and redemption. I highly recommend this second chance romance. A stellar debut novel.

“Get up, Jake.” I’m surprised when she offers me a hand. Our fingers intertwine, and for the first time in days, I feel the frayed edges of my world begin to knit back together. I get to my feet, and she immediately drops my hand as if the contact burned.

“What do you want?” Her arms wrap tight around her middle like she’s trying to hold herself together.

I’m finally face-to-face with Sin and I’ve got… nothing. My brain is blank. Every practiced speech and contrite apology are gone. My eyes are glued to hers and fuck me, I can’t think of one word. After holding my gaze for a little less than a breath, her eyes glaze over with tears, and her teeth sink into her bottom lip to stop the trembling.

She takes a step back over the threshold, doorknob in her hand, preparing to close the door in my face.

“Hold on.” I press a palm against the door, keeping it cracked, to wedge myself between the opening. I close the space between us. The need to feel her, smell her, be in her space, and have her in mine propelling me forward. My hand slides around the back of her neck pulling her toward me. She stumbles into my arms and trips over her own feet, but like every other time we’ve touched, it’s right.

Finally, the pressure in my chest lets up, and I breathe easy. I rest my forehead against hers and whisper against her lips, “I still want you, Sin. Only you.” I close my eyes against the accusations in hers. This close, her breath is co-mingled with mine, and I can smell the faint scent of almond from her shampoo.

“Come back home,” I beg. My lips move over hers, but she doesn’t kiss me back. “I need you. I need us.” I breathe out on a plea.

This time when I seek her lips, she yields but it’s not with sweet abandon. It’s stiff and tinged with regret. This kiss is heartbreak played out with the brush of lips and the slide of tongues.

And it hurts.

Our lips pull apart and I let out shuddered breath as my heart finally rips completely apart. Instinctively I tighten my arms around her, trying to keep her close, but she pulls back. The air slips between us as easy as a knife through butter. I know what’s coming. Good-bye.

M. Jay Granberry is first and foremost an insatiable reader.

Among her favorite things are classic fairy tales, smutty books where characters have heart, old lady sweaters (preferably chunky knit), gift baskets (giving not receiving), and charcuterie trays (green olives, smoked cheese, and Genoa salami).

She is a true Las Vegas native, the one in Nevada not New Mexico, and to answer the most frequently asked questions about growing up in Sin City…

  • No, she doesn’t live in a hotel.
  • No, she has never been a stripper although she does know some.
  • Prostitution is absolutely illegal in Clark County (Las Vegas)!
  • And what happens in Vegas does indeed stay in Vegas.
  • M. Jay earned a degree in words and stories, and after fifteen plus years of doing everything other than writing, she penned her first novel.

Giving a voice to characters, that are strong yet fragile, that are sometimes uncomfortably real, that express love in dirtiest ways with the sweetest sentiments is honestly a dream come true.

Winter Flower

By Charles Sheehan-Miles

Release Date: June 22, 2019

Blurb:

Excerpt:

Life had never been easy for me. Chaos had been following me like a dark cloud, looming and hovering, casting its shadow far and wide despite how bright the path in front of me should have appeared. After growing up the way I had, where happiness had been more of a privilege than a choice, I knew better than to believe that that moment would be anything other than fleeting.

And one second later, the universe proved me right.

I opened the door to see who had rung the bell—a cursory check revealed an empty hallway.

And that’s when I heard it: the sound that changed not only my entire life in the present, but my life for all future days to come.

At first, it was just a grunt, but as if that baby could feel my gaze, the minute my eyes made contact, it let out a sharp cry.

Confusion hit me like a lightning bolt, sending me back a step. I used the door frame for balance as I took in the yellow blanket with a hole only big enough to reveal a pale-pink face.

“What the fuck?” I breathed. Glancing around the hall, I waited for someone to jump out and start laughing. When no one spoke up to issue a punchline, I took a step closer and repeated, “What the fuck?”

I was utterly unable to process the absurdity in front of me.

Of course, I knew the facts.

It was a baby.

On my doorstep.

Alone.

But the why in that equation was glaringly absent.

“Uhhh,” Ian drawled, peering over my shoulder. “Why is there a kid at your door?”

“I have no idea,” I replied, staring down at the squirming and now-screaming bundle. “It was just there when I opened the door.”

Ian shoved me to the side so he could stand beside me. “You’re shitting me, right?”

“Does it look like I’m shitting you?”

He looked from me to the baby, then back again. “How did it get there?”

We were two incredibly smart men who had created a technology empire out of nothing. But, clearly, a baby was too big for either of us to wrap our minds around.

I swept an arm out and pointed to the kid. “I have no clue, but I’m assuming it didn’t catch a cab.”

A light of understanding hit his eyes. He moved first, stepping over the crying baby and hurrying down the hall, searching around the corner near the elevator before returning alone.

The party continued behind me, but even with the door open, the loud chatter was no match for the ear-piecing cries happening in that hallway.

Veronica suddenly appeared beside me, her body going solid as she stammered out. “Is that…a baby?”

“Back up,” I urged, throwing my arm out to block her path as though the infant were going to suddenly morph into a rabid animal. And let’s be honest, I knew nothing about babies. Anything was possible.

Ian dropped to his knees, scooping up the wailing child. Meanwhile, I stood there like a gawking idiot, paralyzed by a weight I didn’t yet understand.

“Call the pol—” He stopped abruptly and reached into the top of the child’s blanket. “Oh shit,” he whispered, his wide, panic-filled eyes flashing to mine.

“What?” I asked, stepping toward him to get a better look at the kid. Only it wasn’t that tiny baby cradled in his arms that made my heart stop and bile rise in my throat.

There, in my best friend’s hand, was a folded piece of notebook paper that had been tucked into the child’s blanket. From the looks of it, the paper was unremarkable in every sense of the word. Blue lines, white spaces, hanging remnants from where it had been haphazardly ripped from a spiral bound notebook. Even the crease was crooked. But it was my name scrawled on the outside in messy, black ink that made it the most remarkable paper in existence.

I snatched it from his hand and, with blood roaring in my ears, opened it.

Caven,

I’m sorry. I never meant for this to happen. This is our daughter Keira. I’ll love her forever. Take care of her the way I can’t.

Written with regret,

Hadley

The hall began to spin, my head feeling like every ounce of blood had been drained from my body. The thundering in my ears faded and the loud chatter of my guests, who were suddenly aware that something was happening at the door, roared to life.

And then the chaos finally found me all over again—the past playing out in my head like my life flashing before my eyes.

I sucked in a deep breath and looked at the baby in his arms. The blanket had fallen off its head just enough to reveal a patch of fine hairs, more orange than its mother’s red.

“Call the police,” I declared, turning on a toe and walking back into my apartment, leaving Ian standing in the hall with Hadley’s child.

Shoving through the crowd of concerned onlookers, I headed straight to the bottles of liquor lining the counter. I didn’t bother with ice or even a glass. I threw back that bottle of vodka, hoping like hell the burn of the alcohol could numb the panic coursing through my veins.

Through it all, that baby never stopped crying.

The cliffhanger leaves her readers wanting the final book yesterday! Readers won’t have to wait long for the final book, Written With You.

Hadley not only left with Caven’s wallet and laptop, she also left with his DNA. Nine months later she is returning Caven’s precious DNA on his doorstep.  Rather than celebrating his six hundred million fortune he is gifted with a new born baby girl. His baby. He is forced become a father rather than a playboy millionaire conquering the world. Who knew fatherhood would become his most successful and rewarding endeavor?

Four years later Hadley’s back and she wants her baby. Caven is not going to let Hadley steal the most precious thing in his life, his daughter. He’s not even willing to share her for a few moments. Michel’s Review

Emma Scott has once again blew my mind and held my heart hostage with her latest release, A Five Minute Life. I could not put this book down and read it in one sitting. Her descriptive narrative, emotional content, and pacing made this book come to life. It was like experiencing a big screen movie while reading this book. Each character came to life and jumped off the pages demanding their story be heard and validated.

Thea Hughes was a vivacious young woman experiencing everything life had to offer. She was a talented college art student who had the potential to become one of the greatest artist of her time. She poured her soul into her paintings. Everything changed when a car accident not only stole her memory but also imprisoned her soul. She was trapped inside her own mind and could not find a way out of her continuous loop. Every five minutes her mind resets. Her only way to express herself is through the words in her art. The loop of words are more than mindless rambles, they are a cry for help. Nobody is seeing her silent screams until one day a new orderly with kind eyes comes into her life. He’s there every time she resets. He sees her soul but can he help her find her way out? One thing she knows is he’s willing to follow her into the dark and that she’ll never be alone again.

Jim Whelan has never had love. He was raised in the foster system and has struggled with stuttering all his life. He knows what it’s like not to be heard or not be able to express oneself. He knows what it’s like to be trapped in a life you didn’t choose. When he meets the beautiful patient at Blue Ridge Sanitarium, he knows she’s still there but trapped inside mind. He just has to figure out how to listen to her and give her a way to express herself. He’s willing to follow her into the dark.

Their happily ever after was not easy but it was pure. It was their LIFE, their MASTERPIECE, and their SONG. Together they both learned to express their emotions and thoughts through the power of love.

Emma Scott has written a MASTERPIECE!

I highly recommend A Five Minute Life by Emma Scott!

EXCERPT:

“This the one, Ms. Priss?” I turned in a circle, hating how restrictive and stiff the refined suit felt. There would be no staying on the horse for eight seconds in something like this. I doubted I could even bend over and pull my boots on in this getup. I failed to see how being dressed like I was going to high tea with the queen was going to convince normal men with a little extra cash to buy the junk in my hair. It felt like overkill, but I would chew my tongue off before telling Della that. I knew how much this campaign meant to her, and I needed her to keep me around so I could get paid. .. and get to kiss her again.

Della circled around me, eyes scanning from head to toe. A small frown tugged her perfectly arched brows down into a V, and her lush, soft mouth pulled into a pout I was becoming achingly familiar with. She lifted a hand and touched the knot of the silk tie where it rested at the base of my throat. She fingered the delicate material and heaved a sigh.

“You look perfect, but something is still off.” She met my gaze with a scowl. “Can you try and look a little less like you’re being tortured? That might help the overall image.”

Her snippy tone and the upturn of her nose made me grin. I rolled my head around, causing my neck to pop and my shoulders to relax. Della’s expression softened when I was no longer standing at attention, but she still let out a dejected-sounding sigh and reached for my tie, releasing me from the expensive noose.

“You have a body made for designer clothes, but something is lost when you put them on. I feel like we’re trying to wrap the Mona Lisa in silk or something. Frankly, it’s annoying that you make denim and flannel look just as good as Versace and Prada.” Once she had the tie off, she told me to go ahead and get back into my own clothes. I asked her what the plan was for the shoot and a brief flare of panic and doubt lit up her catlike eyes. She forced a smile and told me she would figure it out.

Since I was totally a fish out of water in this scenario, all I could do was follow orders like a good soldier. I stripped out of the fitted vest and worked on the tiny buttons of the shirt. I was handing them both off to the flirty wardrobe girl who was enjoying the impromptu striptease when Della’s “Wait a second!” had both of us freezing on the spot.

She was looking at me in the mirror, eyes roving over my half-dressed form. She wandered over to where my jeans and boots were tossed in a haphazard pile on the floor. After a second of rooting around, she came toward me, my black wifebeater in one hand and my boots in the other.

“Put these on with the pants.” She looked at the wardrobe girl with a lifted brow and had to snap her fingers in the woman’s face to get her attention. “Go find me a pair of suspenders, leather if you have them.” The other woman scurried off to do as she was told and I dropped to the seat to pull on my boots.

“I keep trying to turn you into something better.” I looked up at Della as she snorted out a laugh. “But from the start, you were perfect the way you are.”

Michel’s Review

Unbroken by Jay Crownover is a sexy delightful novella introducing her new  Loveless, Texas series. Jay has lived up to her reputation and delivered another emotional romance with the perfect alpha hero and strong confident woman. Unbroken is the perfect combination of sinfully sexy moments and emotionally compelling moments for the city girl and country boy trope. Together these two steamed up the pages and before I knew it the story ended too soon. I wanted more of Crew and Della.
