Faking It
by Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde
Publication Date: April 11th, 2017
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Confirmed bachelor Max Sterling isn’t into rescuing damsels in distress, but when the very tempting Hailey Ellison needs his help, there’s only one thing for him to do. Step in and pose as her loving fiancé. Except there is nothing fake about his attraction to her, or how much he wants her beneath him in his bed, moaning his name. But what starts as a sexy, flirty, temporary engagement, quickly becomes something more serious that neither one ever anticipated.

Tracey’s Review

Okay, I’m pretty sure that Carly Phillps and Erika Wilde are going to have to work really hard to write another guy that I adore as much as Max Sterling. This man. This hot, sexy, pretty near perfect man, is the kind of man that we all wish we could find. He’s the reason that we read romance novels. Because, not only is he successful and good looking. Those things are a bonus, but they’re not the things. No, the thing about Max is how freaking perfect he is with Hailey, how careful he is to make sure that she knows that she is perfect, just the way she is.

One of the things that makes a book a winner for me is a storyline that resonates with me, and FAKING IT hit it out of the park in that regard. There are more than a few of us out there that can relate to Hailey and the relationship trials that she’s encountered. She’s worked hard not to be defined by the things that have held her back in the past, but there’s that one area, that one thing, that keeps Hailey from feeling completely free. Enter Max, with his big heart, his understanding ways, and his passion. And, oh, my goodness, this man is not taking no for an answer. Once he’s set his mind to something, it’s all systems go, and Max’s mind is set on Hailey.

Carly and Erika are extremely gifted at crafting stories that make us feel good, and they’ve brought their A-game with FAKING IT. I loved every minute, every encounter, every sizzling interaction, between Max and Hailey. I enjoyed it because they were having such a great time. Throw in the lovable family and friends, folks that we know from previous books, and it makes for just the sort of read that guarantees that I’ll finish up and put it down with a smile on my face. An easy 4.5 stars, FAKING IT is a book that I happily recommend. If you’re looking for a contemporary romance that you’ll enjoy the heck out of, grab it and add it to your TBR.

Synopsis:

Everybody dreams of a Hawaiian Vacation…

They sell you on the drinks with little umbrella’s, dolphin watching, and long walks on the beach. Which probably happens, if you’re that lucky schmuck living out your dream with your destination wedding, but if you’re a fish out of water PI like me, there’s no time for relaxing because trouble is never far behind.

Instead of cocktails, I ended up dealing with the seedy underbelly of The Big Island.
And, I didn’t see one damn dolphin while undercover on a boat which was spilling over with drug dealers, Kingpins, and Pedophiles.

Elin and Elena think Cade’s family are the coolest people outside of Snapchat, but it’s hard to meet the parents when your boyfriend is in his late thirties and has never had a serious relationship.

I’d never missed my girls so much in my life, but Amy May, Bea, and Carmen are all dealing with issues of their own, and can’t come to my rescue.

The only thing that may help me with this “vacation” is if I could get Lei’d with Cupcakes.

WARNING: THIS BOOK CONTAINS FOUL LANGUAGE, SEX, SOME VIOLENCE, AND SHENANIGANS. IF NONE OF THAT BOTHERS YOU, GRAB A CUPCAKE AND READ ON!

Tracey’s Review

Who wouldn’t love a vacation in Hawaii? I mean, sun, sand, surf, how much more relaxing and attractive could a destination be? Add in meeting the family of the man of your dreams, and it should be nothing but smooth sailing. Unless your Lila Compton, because, even when she wants to take it easy, chances are good that things will not go as planned.

Author Bethany Lopez has brought her ‘A’ game again with LEI’D WITH CUPCAKES, the third book in her Cupcakes series. Besides the sun and fun, this is a read chock-full of all of the things that make these books so enjoyable.

Lila’s her same snarky, sassy, jump-right-in self, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. She doesn’t even have to look for trouble in Paradise, because it finds her anyway, and she more than rises to the occasion. Aided by Cade and his family and friends, Lila never stops kicking butt and taking names.

We finally get to see a different side of Cade here, and, if possible, I love him even more. He’s still the big, strong, take-charge alpha guy that we know and love, but being home with his family shows his softer, more relaxed side. There’s a moment (and you’ll know it when you see it) that was so seriously swoony that I could just see it, that endeared him to me forever.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the previous books in this series, because the characters are engaging, there is such a strong emphasis on friends and family, and they constantly make me laugh out loud. LEI’D WITH CUPCAKES has all of this and more, and leaves me hoping for more shenanigans with the whole crazy crew. 4.5 sweet, sexy, action-packed stars for this treat of a read.

Ain’t He Precious

By Juliette Poe ( aka Sawyer Bennett )

The Sex And Sweet Tea Series – Book 1

Release Date: April 11, 2017

Ain't-He-Precious-FOR WEB-newWelcome to Whynot, North Carolina, population 3,872. It has one stoplight, one bar, and the one-and-only Trixie Mancinkus.

Eleven years ago, Trixie graduated Harvard Law, turned down a job offer from one of the most prestigious law firms in Boston, and headed home to Whynot to open her own firm. Not only did she leave behind the big city, but she also left her boyfriend of three years. And just so we’re clear… that would be me.

So what am I doing in Whynot at this very moment? It seems Trixie needs help with a legal case and for some insane reason, she called on me for assistance. I’ve been in town for five minutes, and I’m every bit as out of place as I feel. Trixie is all sweet, southern curves to my tailored suits and high-priced haircuts. It’s a culture clash of north versus south and about the only thing we have in common is our physical attraction to each other.

But I have a new motto since coming to Whynot: When life hands you lemons, all you need is a little sex and sweet tea to make things better.

Excerpt

Over lettuce wraps, I let her vent more about her brother but I only let this go on during the appetizer. Once our entrees arrive, I insist we change the subject. She’s not calming down, only getting more worked up, and diversion has always worked best with Trixie.

“Raleigh seems to be a nice town,” I say conversationally in an effort to get her relaxed.

She rolls her eyes at me because as much as I know how to “handle” her when her temper is spiked, she recognizes the fact that I am indeed handling her. Apparently, she finds it adorable. She cuts a piece of her orange chicken and gives in to my attempt to switch the conversation. “It really is. It’s spread out so you don’t have that overwhelming big-city feel, but you have all the luxuries a big city affords like museums, professional sports, fine dining, etcetera.”

“Overwhelming is an interesting choice of words,” I observe. “You didn’t feel that way in Boston, did you?”

I’m surprised when her cheeks turn a bit red. Her voice is reluctant when she admits, “Yeah… it was a bit too much for me.”

My mouth hangs open as I stare at her. How could I not know that? We had made plans to live in Boston, and there was a time when she was completely on board.

“I’m sorry,” she blurts out. “I know what you’re thinking… Why would I have even considered all those plans we’d made if I felt that way?”

“Got to admit… this is a bit surprising to hear.”

Trixie puts her fork down and levels her gaze on me. “Ry… I loved you. And I loved Cambridge. It was small and well… comfortable. It wasn’t small like Whynot, but it reminded me of home a bit. But honestly, I was only considering staying there in Boston because of you. I didn’t like it at all. Too many people. Too much concrete and glass. Too much noise. It’s just not me.”

“You should have said something a lot earlier than you did,” I reprimand her quietly. I can’t help feeling a bit angry over this revelation, because who knows what would have happened had we had some honest discussions about where we wanted to go that could suit both of us.

“Would it have changed anything?” she asks me bluntly. “You were set on Boston. You wanted that job at Hayes Lockamy. You worked your ass off at Harvard and the clerkships to get that job offer. It was everything to you.”

“It wasn’t everything,” I tell her sharply.

“Maybe not,” she retorts. “But it clearly meant more than me. As I recall, I asked you to come to Whynot to practice, and I got a resounding ‘no’ to that offer.”

“You sprung that on me at literally the last minute, Trixie,” I say angrily. “After I’d accepted the job offer at Hayes Lockamy. You didn’t give me any time to process any of it.”

“And you didn’t bother to try to talk me into staying,” she snaps.

“Seriously, Trix,” I say in exasperation. “I’ve been here two days, and I’ve watched you in your element. You were born to live here. This is where you’re supposed to be. Being a small-town lawyer in Whynot surrounded by your close-knit, if not nutty, family is what brings you joy. Are you seriously trying to infer that you would have left all of this to stay in Boston with me if I’d just tried to talk you into staying?”

“No, what I’m saying,” she sneers at me as she leans across the table but I don’t miss the light sheen of tears in her eyes, “is that you and I clearly weren’t meant to be, and we’re both better off for making the choices we did.”

Now that hits me hard, right in the middle of my chest, and I have to resist the urge to rub my knuckles over my breastbone to ease the pain.

Trixie merely pushes up from her chair, grabs her purse, and practically runs out of the restaurant.

“Shit,” I mutter as I stand up. I grab my wallet, take out enough money to cover the meal and tip, and toss it down on the table.

I jet out of the restaurant, scan the area, and see Trixie walking quickly toward her car. I wouldn’t put it past her to jump in it and drive off without me, so I break into a fast trot to catch up with her. My hand latches onto her elbow just as she reaches her car, and I spin her to face me.

“What the hell, Trix?” I ask her with frustration, anger, and a little bit of self-loathing that I let the conversation get so out of hand. I’ve always been the mild-mannered one between the two of us, knowing how to deftly control and sidestep her temper so it doesn’t get the better of her.

Or me.

I brace, expect her to rail and rant some more. Instead, she launches herself right at me, making a tiny hop to throw her arms around my neck. Her mouth comes to mine hard as one of her hands grips into my hair, fisting it tight.

Jesus Christ… stars wink in my vision at the feel of her mouth on mine, so long forgotten and yet completely familiar all at once. I don’t think—just act. My arms band around her tight, hauling her body to mine. I push her back into the side of her car, tilt my head, and I kiss her back with every bit of longing and regret that she seems to be mutually feeling in this moment.

Michel’s Review

What a treat… Sawyer Bennett has an alter-ego that is sugar and a lot of spice.  Writing as Juliette Poe, she has released Ain’t He Precious, the first book in the Sex And Sweet Tea series.  This is a charming second chance, small town storybook romance will give the reader a delightful and romantic reading experience.  It’s the perfect book to sit back, relax,  and enjoy.

Trixie and Ryland were college sweethearts at Harvard.  Both are studying law and have big plans for their futures.  Big plans have a way of changing when reality sets in.  Trixie had a change of heart and wants to move back home to the small town of Whynot. Ryland is not the small town kind of guy nor is he ready to let go of his dreams of working in a big law firm.  They both walk away from their relationship heartbroken.  Trixie returns home and the small town life she left behind.  Ryland moves onto Boston and follows his dreams of being a high profile lawyer.

Fast forward eleven years later.  Trixie has a high profile case that needs more than her experience can provide.  She asks Ryland to come to Whynot to help with the case. When he readily agrees, it opens the doors for their second chance of love and happiness.  The kind only they can give one another.

Once again Trixie and Ryland will have choices.  Will they choose each other or will they choose their careers and family?

I loved everything about this book.  Both the characters, Trixie and Ryland were strong individuals without being overbearing or annoying.  They both had charming personalities. Their passion for one another and strong abiding love was unquestionable.  Their story being set in a small town with it’s quirky population made this story all the more charming.

I highly recommend reading Ain’t He Precious by Juliette Poe.  Sawyer’s alter ego is just as fantastic as her true self.  Loved this book!

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000035_00022]Hiring my brother’s best friend was not on my to-do list.

Neither was he.

Expanding my dirty cocktail bar into food was supposed to be easy, except finding a chef in my little town of Whiskey Key is anything but.

Until Parker Hamilton comes home—bringing his Michelin starred chef’s hat with him.

He has no work. I need someone like him in my new kitchen.

There’s just one problem: I hate his cocky, filthy-mouthed, sexy-as-hell guts.

Even if I might want him. Just a little…

Working for my best friend’s sister? Not on my to-do list.

She’s another story.

Whiskey Key was supposed to be a relaxing vacation, except I haven’t reached the heights I have by lying in a hammock drinking cocktails. So when Raven Archer is desperate for a chef, I offer up my skills.

I’m bored. She needs what I can give her.

Except there’s a problem: I’ve always hated her.

Her and her big, blue eyes, sassy mouth, and killer curves.

If only I didn’t want her.

The sound of my phone buzzing on the nightstand was loud, jarring, and very, very annoying.
It wasn’t the most pleasant sound in the world to wake up to.
Groaning, I rolled over and batted my hand around on the top of the nightstand. Then, I realized the bed was vibrating. It was a mammoth effort to open my eyes, but somehow I managed it so I could look down the gap between the cupboard and my bed. Just like I assumed it was, my phone was wedged between the leg of the bed and the wooden side of my nightstand.
I fished it out with my finger. The moment it was free, it stopped ringing.
Of course it did.
I picked it up and looked at the screen. Ryan. I frowned—it was early for him to be calling…wait, no it wasn’t. It was seven-thirty. I’d overslept.
No sooner had I finished the thought than my phone buzzed again. It was Ryan.
“What do you want?” I demanded, answering the phone.
“Did you oversleep?” came his response.
“Maybe. I was tired. What do you want?”
He laughed. “Have you seen Parker?”
“You just woke me up. Do you think I’ve seen Parker?”
“Shall I call back when you’ve had coffee?”
“Can you get to the point of this irritating conversation?” I shoved the covers to the side and swung my legs out of the bed. I hadn’t bothered to throw any clothes on before I’d fallen asleep last night.
Ryan sighed. “Ilsa said Parker didn’t go home last night. She came over this morning when his car wasn’t in the drive and asked me if I knew where he was. I don’t, and you’re the last person I know who would’ve seen him, so I’m calling you.”
I jerked around and looked at the other side of the bed. Messy and unkept, but no Parker.
“No idea.” I swallowed and glanced at the floor. His clothes were gone, too. Only mine remained. “Hold on.” I put my phone down and checked the notification bar. There were no messages from him, so if he wasn’t here and hadn’t gone home, maybe he was downstairs?
I threw an oversized shirt on over my head and quickly pulled some panties up my legs before grabbing my phone again.
“I don’t have any messages from him,” I said, opening my bedroom door. “I can’t hel—” I finished on a scream, because the missing man was standing shirtless in my kitchen.
“Raven?” Ryan said into my ear right as Parker glanced over his shoulder at me. “Are you all right?”
“Ssshhh—shit!” I held my finger in front of my mouth. “Spider!” I said to Ryan. “I walked into the bathroom and there’s a big spider in my tub.”
Parker rubbed his hand down his face and shook his head.
“You’re screaming at a spider?” Ryan’s amusement was evident in his restrained tone.
“It’s a big one. It scared me.” I slammed my bedroom door behind me. “I just locked it in there.”
“It’s a spider.”
“You’re not helping.” This was the worst lie ever. “I need to get rid of it, so I have to go. If I haven’t heard from you by the time Parker starts work, I’ll tell him to call his mom. Bye!” I hung up and threw my phone on the sofa like it was on fire.
“What the hell was that about?” Parker asked, spatula-flipper thingy in hand.
“You’re still here!” It came out as more of a squeak than anything.
He stared at me for a moment. “Yeah, but I’m kind of stuck on the fact I’ve been both a stubbed toe and a spider this week.”
I sunk my fingers into my hair. It was messy, and my fingers got caught on some small knots as they threaded through the locks. “Ryan called and woke me up.” I summarized the phone call. “And I panicked when I saw you, because I didn’t know you were still here.”
“Why wouldn’t I be here?”
“I fell asleep and thought you left!”
He shook his head, turning back to my cooker. “I fell asleep, too. I didn’t wake up until your alarm went off this morning.”
“Why didn’t you wake me up? I’m late and I have to put orders through today.”
“You didn’t move,” he said. “So I shut it off, took a shower, and came to make breakfast.”
Now that he’d mentioned it, I could see his dark hair was wet. “Okay, well, you need to call your mom and tell her you aren’t dead or anything.”
“I’ll text her soon. I can’t do it right after Ryan’s called you, can I? That won’t look suspicious at all.”
“Half an hour. Say I left you a voicemail to see if you were coming into work because you were MIA and you realized you forgot to tell her you weren’t coming home.”
“The fact I have to tell her I’m not coming home is, in itself, ridiculous.”
“And that’s why I live alone.” I smiled and pulled a bottle of water out of the fridge. “What are you making?”
“Omelets. Yia-Yia left me omelet seasoning so I thought I’d try it.”
I peered over his arm at the pan. “Where did you get the the ingredients?” I knew for a fact I didn’t have eggs in my fridge.
“Downstairs.” He glanced at me as if the answer was obvious. Which it was, honestly. “Your fridge is both impressively empty and sadly understocked.”
I shrugged and leaned against the counter. “I don’t eat breakfast unless I’m forced to.”
Parker slid the omelet out of the pan and onto a plate in one smooth movement. Then, he picked up the plate, and held it out to me. “Well, I’m forcing you to eat.”
I might not have been a big breakfast eater, but I wasn’t going to turn down food.
“I can deal with that.” I smiled and reached for the plate, but before I could take it, he swung his arm out wide where I couldn’t reach it. “Hey!”
He grabbed the front of my shirt, yanking me toward him. I’d barely righted my footing when he dropped his mouth to mine and planted a slow, easy kiss on my lips. Releasing me like he’d done nothing out of the ordinary, he put the plate back between us and also handed me a knife and fork. “Morning.”
I snatched the plate and cutlery before he could take it away again. “Thanks. I think?”
He laughed as I sat at the table. “Your good morning was screaming at me. The least you could do was kiss me.”
I rolled my eyes and stabbed my fork into the cheesy, melty, eggy goodness. “You should have announced yourself. Left your pants on the floor or something.”
“I’ll remember that for next time.”
“Next time? This is going to happen again?” I was teasing him, because let’s be honest. There were worse things in life than having sex with a hot guy, then waking up to find said hot guy making you breakfast while half-naked.
“Yep. I’ll just remember to call my mom first.”
I laughed, then moaned as I finally put the first forkful of breakfast into my mouth.
Parker side-eyed me. “If you want to finish your breakfast in peace, don’t do that again.”

Tracey’s Review

Parker Hamilton is the thorn in Raven Archer’s side, the pain in her backside, the fly in her ointment, the, well, you get it. Suffice to say that he doesn’t float her boat. And, as far as Parker is concerned, Raven is his best friend’s pain in the neck sister, a necessary evil in his relationship with Raven’s brother, Ryan. But when Raven’s big crazy Greek family descends upon her bar for an extended family reunion, Parker may be the only answer to her making it through without losing it.

Emma Hart has got the romantic comedy trope down like a pro. Snark, sass, witty repartée, I know that I am going to get a healthy and entertaining serving of all of these things every time I open one of her books, and it’s exactly what keeps me coming back, time and time again.

Raven made an appearance in CASANOVA, the first of Emma’s books set in Whiskey Key, FL. I knew from that first glimpse that she was going to be a firecracker, and couldn’t wait to see what Emma had in store for us with MIXED UP, Raven’s very own story. To say that Raven is a strong woman is an understatement. She can more than hold her own, and takes no prisoners, whether it’s running her bar, Dirty, dealing with her large and hilarious Greek family, or exchanging zingers with Parker.

I liked Parker from the minute that he showed up in the story. He can more than handle Raven, and reading their interactions is a little bit like watching a tennis match. The back and forth is non-stop, and left me laughing out loud on more than one occasion. And, then, there’s his pure sexiness, PLUS, the dude can cook. Like, 3 Michelin stars cook. Raven is nobody’s fool, and knows a good thing when she sees it. When she ends up needing a culinary whiz to run the kitchen at Dirty, she only has to think about it for a minute to see that, no matter how much Parker infuriates her, she’s not about to let him leave and take his chefly abilities with him. And, you know what you get when you put two fiery people in the same kitchen, right? Sparks are flying before the dust settles, and soon the two of them are lighting fires of their own.

MIXED UP is a fun, sassy, and satisfying read. It’s an easy 5 stars for me, and one that all Emma fans must read. And, although there are characters from CASANOVA here, MIXED UP is a standalone, and doesn’t depend on the earlier book to entertain the heck out of you. But wait, there’s more! Emma has included recipes for the awesomely named drinks that Raven serves at Dirty, so, not only do you get a must-read story, you get to drink some scrumptious concoctions while you read. This one’s a no-brainer; add MIXED UP to your TBR and get the good times rolling.

Excerpt:

I’m walking through the senior parking lot when I spot Jordan standing near his black Range Rover, leaning against its side. He’s wearing a white Henley shirt, his arms crossed and his biceps bulging beneath the long sleeves. The breeze ruffles his dark hair across his forehead and he stares off into the distance, every inch the troubled, broody boy that he is.

He looks so freaking good, I’m momentarily distracted by him. I stop and stare, my lips parted, my breath becoming shallow. It’s still hard for me to believe that this guy, this gorgeous, sweet, annoying, smart, strong, wonderful, awful boy likes me. That he might even care about me.

“Hey.” His deep baritone knocks me from my daze, and I head over, stopping just in front of him. “Where’s Livvy?”

“She made last minute plans. With someone else.” I don’t say anything else. Livvy’s secret isn’t mine to tell, and I’m afraid if I start talking about it, I’ll get really pissed. So I leave it alone. “Guess I don’t need to drive your car after all, but thank you for offering. I sense it was huge deal.”

“It is,” he agrees, tipping his head toward me. “But you’re worth it.”

Oh. He says things like that and I’m left speechless.

“You don’t have any plans?”

“No.” I shake my head, feeling tongue-tied.

Jordan grabs my hand, lacing our fingers and giving them a squeeze. “Then let’s go to lunch together.”

“Don’t you want to stay here?” He usually does. He’s always out at the quad, holding court over his loyal subjects. I used to sit out there with him, with all of them, just basking in his presence. But once we had the so-called breakup of our so-called relationship, I stopped going. One, because I couldn’t stand to be near him knowing he wasn’t mine anymore. Besides, most everyone who would hang out with Tuttle is annoying. Frustrating. Awful.

All of the above.

“No, not if I can sneak off campus somewhere with you.” He tugs me closer, his expression serious, his voice low. “Let me treat you to lunch, Amanda.”

When he talks to me like that, looks at me like that, I tend to give in easily.

“Okay,” I say softly, a jolt pulsing through me when he runs his thumb over the top of my hand. Sometimes the simplest touch has the most devastating effect.

Michel’s Review

Forever, the powerful conclusion of Jordan and Amanda’s angsty high school romance has released.  Readers have anxiously awaited the release to find out if Jordan and Amanda are finally going to get their lives in check.  For Amanda, it was never a question of staying on the right path but whether she would end up with a broken heart before she began her college career.  For Jordan it was a question as to whether he could rise above his own insecurities, get past his family problems, and become a man rather than a spoiled boy.  And then there are the group of friends who equally have their own problems and insecurities.

Monica Murphy captured the teenage world in the Friends series. As a parent of teenagers and freshman college student, I could easily follow this story.  It was like watching parts of my kids lives line up in the pages of these books.  Monica clearly showed the emotional struggle of leaving childhood and becoming an adult.  Taking responsibility for oneself as well as learning to co exist with others in the same boat. Growing up isn’t easy but it’s memorable.  Falling in love for the first time is exciting but can also be traumatic. Becoming a mature, responsible adult is scary but a reality. Learning to trust oneself and not rely on others opinions is freeing. Monica portrayed it all and gave the readers a solid young adult romance.

I would highly recommend this series to teenagers as well as adults.  Romance is timeless and touches us all no matter the age..

ABOUT EASY MAGIC:

The Boudreaux Series. Sexy. Intriguing. Easy.

Family. Responsibility. Stability.

As the co-CEO of Bayou Enterprises, and the eldest of the Boudreaux clan, Beau is the epitome of these. Now that his baby sister Gabby is happily settled down, Beau has moved into the company loft in the heart of the French Quarter to be closer to his office while his own home is built. He doesn’t have time for anything but the family he adores and the company that drives him.

If only the bewitching owner of the herb shop downstairs from Beau’s loft wasn’t so damn tempting.

Mallory Adams is living the life. The good life. The best life for her. After years of hiding who she is, and the gifts she’s been cursed with, Mallory opened her little shop in the French Quarter, offering herbs and lotions for anything from soothing a sunburn to chasing those pesky ghosts New Orleans is known for out of a client’s home. Some call her eccentric, and some say she’s simply odd, and that’s okay with her. She is a bit odd, but in her experience, all of the best people are.

When an old pipe bursts in the loft above her store, flooding her storeroom, Mallory comes face to face with Beau Boudreaux, and she doesn’t need the clairvoyant abilities that have been passed down through generations to know that she’ll never be the same. Beau is her exact opposite; serious, straitlaced. He wears suits for Pete’s sake and probably wouldn’t know the difference between arnica and flaxseed if his life depended on it. But when he touches her, the electricity is through the roof and she’s smart enough to know that a chemistry like theirs doesn’t happen every day.

Can two people so very different possibly find their way to happily ever after?

EXCERPT

I pull my phone out of my pocket to call Beau Boudreaux, who also happens to be my landlord.

Of course, there is no answer.

The man lives upstairs, directly above this shop. Can’t he hear the water? Does he sleep like the dead?

Or maybe he’s not home.

I frown and open my mind, searching the building.

He’s home. I can feel his presence.

And he might be naked.

I immediately slam the psychic door shut and walk outside, up the wrought iron steps to his loft, and bang on the door.

“Wake up,” I mutter. “And put some pants on.”

I raise my hand to bang again, but the door is flung open and there’s Beau, rubbing sleep from his eyes, a frown on his handsome face.

He’s pulled some sweatpants on.

Thank God.

“What’s going on?” he demands.

“I have a leak,” I reply and swallow hard, willing myself to keep my eyes on his face, and not the sculpted muscles of his torso. I’ve met the man exactly twice, including right now, but what he does to my libido is ridiculous.

I’d forgotten that I have a libido.

Which is a sad statement all on its own.

“You had to wake me up at four-thirty for a leak?”

“I have three inches of water on my floor,” I reply and turn to stomp down the stairs. “Come look!”

I don’t look back as I wade back into my store. A few moments later, I hear Beau come clomping down the steps and look back as he fills the doorway with his wide shoulders. He’s tall, pushing six-and-a-half feet. His hair is dark, and his eyes are like old whiskey.

Those whiskey eyes survey the space, frowning when he sees the amount of water on the floor.

“Do you know where it’s coming from?”

“The bathroom,” I reply and lead him to it.

“The fucking ceiling fan?” He exclaims and shakes his head. “I was expecting the toilet to be overflowing. Old plumbing is unpredictable.”

“I was expecting the same, but here we are,” I say and cross my arms over my chest. He glances back at me, and his eyes drop to my cleavage for just an instant before he looks me in the eye.

I don’t uncross my arms.

“I’m going to shut off the water to the building.”

“Good idea.”

He rushes back outside and a few moments later, the water slows to a small trickle, and then fast drops.

He comes back inside and looks up. “Must be a broken pipe.”

“Are you a plumber as well as a billionaire mogul?” I ask, unable to resist.

His lips twitch. “I’m good at a lot of things.”

Oh, I just bet you are.

Kelley’s Review

I adored Easy Magic by Kristen Proby. This story could not have come at a better time in my life. It provided a fun and provocative escape that I had been craving from my library for a while now. Kristen is a master at foreshadowing just enough so that you think you can predict what’s coming until she throws in a twist or two.
Mallory is the most sweet, kind, and gifted female heroine that I have met in some time. She has taken over her Grandmama’s shop with the goal of helping people get through their weekly ailments and day to day drama and trauma. She has many gifts including the ability to sense a person and what they are feeling. This has made relationships almost impossible until Beau comes along and all she feels is a sense of calm when she touches his skin.
I love that Kristen kept this story a dual POV read. We get to then see how Beau feels about Mallory. His dirty thoughts are smoldering with heat and he cant seem to get enough of little miss Mallory. Beau has always been the responsible big brother and he is very protective of Mallory. He wants to be the kind of man that steps in and saves the day. Until one day when he can’t. He gets smacked in the face with things that Mallory is dealing with and the big question is when Beau finds out about Mallory’s abilities will he be able to accept and trust her ever again or will he push her away.
I enjoyed this book immensely. It evoked so many different emotions at one time. One of them being hunger as Kristen describes what a beignet tastes like. I want to take a trip to New Orleans now. I liked this book so much I can’t wait to listen to it on Audio next. Bravo Kristen Proby on a sinfully sexy roller coaster that has left me sated but yet ready for more. I adore this series and am excited to see what comes next.

After all, it makes her feel like she’s making a difference when she couldn’t so long ago. As a private security officer, Anderson Hawkins puts everyone’s life before his own. With his mother fighting for her life in the hospital, Anderson is hellbent on finding a way to save her. On the plus side, he gets to spend his time with a sexy and fiery ER doctor who would do anything for his mother. Though Aspen seems to be pulling back—away from any feelings she may have for him. Now, it’s up to Anderson to prove that they can build a future together if they both let go of the past. Can Aspen trust her heart with someone when she already feels “dead on arrival?”

Michel’s Review

Claudia Burgoa is back with another heart wrenching emotional book that every reader can relate to in some way.  Until I Fall is one of those books that explores all types of relationships, whether it be romantic, friendship, or family.  All these relationships are what molds our lives and defines our individuality.

***

Aspen Zimmerman had it all.  She was just beginning her journey to becoming a doctor.  She was madly in love and soon to be married when tragedy struck.  Losing her fiancé altered her life and changed her. For the next eleven years, she floundered through life emotionally numb.  When she meets her neighbor Anderson Hawkins, her heart begins to wake up.  Can she handle the emotions that go along with what her heart is feeling.  Is she capable of treading through the dangerous waters that come with being in a relationship?  She wants to but knows she’s broken.  Only she has the power to fix what is broken.

***

Anderson Hawkins has come home to take care of his mother.  He’s fighting to keep her alive and make her final days joyful.  His former career as a ranger and present career as a security specialist has kept him from family and committed relationships.  When he meets Aspen, he falls head over heels in love.  He will do anything to make their relationship work.  He has learned the hard way that life is precious and each moment counts.  Can he convince Aspen that their love for one another is worth the risk?

***

Until I Fall is much more than a romantic love story.  It’s about family relationships and how important they are in our lives.  It is also about the importance of friendship and understanding.  I thoroughly loved every aspect of this book.  Claudia Burgoa once again touched my heart in many ways.

fflA larger-than-life firefighter inspires a career-driven woman to live in the moment—and trust in the power of love—in this flirty, emotional novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Searching for Harmony.

Finn Ward has two passions: being a firefighter and being single. Although his parents are constantly nagging him to settle down, Finn just wants to enjoy himself while he’s young. Then, at a union meeting, he meets a gorgeous lawyer with a dazzling smile—and suddenly, settling down doesn’t sound so bad.

Rory Adams is fresh out of law school and looking to make a name for herself at her mother’s firm. She doesn’t have time for silly games anymore. But when she catches the eye of a dashing fireman who makes her body tingle from across the room, something instantly ignites between them. The only problem? Her father is Finn’s boss.

Their relationship turns both of their lives upside-down. Rory tames Finn’s wild ways, while he shows her that life can’t be all work and no play. But it’ll take some serious determination to keep their love secret—and real courage to admit the truth.

She took another bite of her toast. “But work is for sure not on your mind, Rory. Not with that goofy deer-in-the-headlight look on your face. You’re thinking about a guy.”

My mouth dropped. How in the hell did she know that? “I am not.”

Lifting her brow, she tilted her head and replied, “Really? Look me directly in the eye and tell me you were not thinking about a guy and I’ll treat you to a mani-pedi today.”

“Oh, that sounds like fun! I haven’t done that in a long time.”

“Stop avoiding the question, Rory.”

Taking a bite of my parfait, I asked, “What was the question again?”

With a huge smile, Clare pointed her egg-filled fork at me. “I knew it! I knew it. . . . What’s his name?”

I thought about lying and saying it wasn’t a guy who had my mind so damn preoccupied, or blurting everything out and asking Clare for advice. I was positive it would somehow involve his dick.

“It’s Finn.”

Her mouth formed an O as her eyes widened. “Finn? That sounds sexy as fuck.”

Worrying my lower lip into my mouth, I clamped down on it and nodded. I closed my eyes and sighed. Opening them, I focused on Clare. “Oh, gosh, Clare. He is more than sexy. If you were to look up ‘hotashell guy with the most amazing fit body’ in Webster’s, his picture would be there. He’s funny, has the most adorable smile, and when he’s really happy, his dimples pop out. He has crazy hair that looks like he runs his hand through it all . . . the . . . time. His condo is immaculate. Like you thought I was crazy weird about keeping stuff clean, this guy takes it up a level.” I stopped talking and thought about Finn’s eyes. “Those amazing emerald eyes of his are so easy to get lost in. They way he looks at me sometimes is so seductive I feel like I’m going to combust. And his kiss . . . Good Lord, his kiss left me reeling for hours.”

Clare sat there with her toast frozen at her mouth and stared at me. She dropped it to the plate and let a huge grin take over her face.

“Wow. Please tell me you slept with this guy and that he was the best sex you’ve ever had, ’cause the look on your face right now is almost borderline . . .”

She gasped.

Leaning in closer, I asked, “Borderline what?”

“First tell me, did y’all sleep together?”

I shook my head and took a bite of yogurt. “No. He asked me out to dinner, but I turned him down.”

Gripping the table, Clare shook her head. “Whoa . . . time out. Wait one damn minute. You haven’t even been out on a date with this guy? When did you kiss? You were at his condo? Why? How can you be that head over heels for someone and not have gone on a date?” Pinching the bridge of her nose, she moaned, “I’m so confused.”

She turned and searched for the waiter. “We need two Bloody Marys stat!”

Michel’s Review

Fighting For Love by Kelly Elliott is the second book in the Boston Love series and is every bit as wonderful as the first book. The Ward Brothers are not only fighting fires, they are sending the readers up in flames.  Be ready to be scorched by another bad boy fire fighter with a heart of gold beneath the ashes.

Finn Ward is a dedicated fire fighter like his brothers and father.  He’s fun loving and a ladies man.  He makes no apologies for his life style or bad boy tendencies.  As far as he’s concerned he’s living his life to the fullest until he meets Rory Adams, a lawyer that represents the firefighters union. For a man who doesn’t necessarily believe in commitment and love, cupid’s arrow has struck deep.  Finn has fallen for a girl who should be off limits.  Not only is she representing his profession, she is also the daughter of his new boss who doesn’t like him.  But like many of the fires he fights, her father is just an obstacle he needs to get past to get to the heart of the fire.

Rory doesn’t have much experience with men, especially men like Finn.  She also realizes that she has kept herself in a box and doesn’t know how to have fun.  When Finn enters the picture Rory begins to bloom.  It doesn’t matter that her father doesn’t approve.  Finn makes her feel cherished.

Fighting For Love was a delightful romance.  Rory and Finn’s characters compliment one another and the reader gets a true sense of their chemistry with one another.  I absolutely loved their banter, humor, and emotional moments.

I highly recommend reading Fighting For Love by Kelly Elliott.

New Release + Excerpt + 5 Star Review: Riot by Tillie Cole – Scarred Souls Series – Book 4

Stolen by the Arziani Georgian crime mob as a child, 152 was raised and conditioned to be a Mona—the most subservient of the Arziani Blood Pit slaves.

Gorgeous and kind, she has been and under the imprisoning influence of the Type B drug and under the command of the Blood Pit Master’s sister, Mistress Arziani, for most of her life, until the Master calls her back home to Georgia.

He wants her under his total control, and Master always gets what he wants.

But when 152 is gifted to the Blood Pit’s fearsome champion death match fighter as a prize, 152 suddenly finds out that the men who appear most brutal, may just own the kindest hearts. And love may be found, even when living in hell.

Freedom, family, love, 152 will have to fight for what she wants and ultimately make an impossible choice.

Excerpt

He nuzzled his cheek against mine and said, “He wants you.” He stilled. In a flash, the cruel soul from last night possessed his being. Snapping his head up, lips curling, he hissed, “My High Mona. My pretty delicate petal. I don’t want to let you go, but it will serve a higher purpose.” His cheeks flushed with excitement. “Then I can own you completely. When my empire is secure, I can have you all day and all night. I will possess you in every pos- sible way.”
My blood turned cold at his words. Feeling a wetness on my wrist, I glanced over and saw blood trickling downward. Master saw it too and clicked his fingers at Maya, who was hovering like a shadow in the corner. “Clean it, chiri,” he snarled. Maya rushed to the water and wet a cloth, immediately cleaning my wrist. I tried to meet her eyes, but she kept her head down.
When my wrist was clean, I stared at the silver bracelet and im- mediately knew it was the drugs. Instead of a single injection, this would give me regular, automatic doses. The male in the white coat quickly moved around the table, unshackling me from the bed. Master helped me stand. When he did, he stepped back and ranged his gaze all over me.
“Perfection,” he whispered. I could see genuine pride in his ex- pression. Reaching down to his crotch, Master palmed his harden- ing length. “So fucking perfect,” he murmured. No sooner had his words left his mouth and he withdrew his hand than the ruthless Master of the Blood Pit suddenly reappeared.
With a surreal blankness now on his face, he walked out the door and called for a guard. When a Wraith arrived, Master in- structed, “Take her to him. Lock her in his cell.” He smiled that sadistic smile and added, “Don’t let him out until he fucks her.”
I heard Maya’s almost inaudible gasp beside me. But I raised my head and prayed that my fear wasn’t showing. Master pointed to the guard. “Follow him.”
I walked forward. Just before I reached the guard, Master gripped my arm and slammed my back against the wall. Before I could catch my breath, he smashed his lips to mine, ravishing my mouth with his.
Master abruptly pulled back, then stormed toward Maya. I didn’t understand what he was about to do, until he gripped her by the back of her neck and slammed her small body against the wall. I stood, motionless, as Master lifted his hand and sliced it across her face. He was taking everything out on her. She was too young to take such a cruel hand!
Desperate, my eyes drifted to Maya’s, and my heart cracked when I saw in her eyes that she was no longer in the room. Merci- fully, she had taken herself elsewhere.
By her reaction, I realized this wasn’t something new. Master had done this to the young girl before. Beat her. Hurt her, as though she was nothing . . . not even a human at all.
I felt sick to my stomach.
“Move!” The guard beside me ordered, as I stared helplessly at Maya hurting on the floor.
The male who had attached the bracelet worked on something at the back of the room, offering Maya no help. A surge of anger burned within me.
“I said move!” the guard snapped. I forced myself to follow him out of the room, ignoring the young boys in the cages, and into the hallway. When we reached the forked section, this time we went down the right hallway and descended. Unlike the left hallway, where it grew lighter the farther we walked, this hallway grew darker and danker.
My fear grew with every step we took. Then we reached a nar- row hallway. There was a wider hallway to the left. I started when, from that direction, I heard the loud sound of males shouting. I swallowed back my nerves when the guard walked straight ahead. The noise faded the farther we traveled, until we arrived at a small section housing only a few cells. It was much quieter here.
I tried to understand where we were. The guard walked past the cells. I tried to peer in, but unlike others I had seen, these had some semblance of privacy. I heard soft moans coming from one. Instinc- tively, I knew that a female was being pleasured.
The guard stopped and reached for the door before us. When the door opened, the guard looked at me and snapped, “Get in.” I hesitated when I looked inside. I couldn’t see anyone in there, the room was so dark.
When I didn’t move, the guard gripped my arm and hauled me forward. He pushed me inside. I stumbled, landing on the hard ground of the cell. My heart beat hard as I lifted my head. When I did, pure terror seized me.
Sitting on a mattress before me was him. The Blood Pit Cham- pion. The Arziani Pit Bull. Master’s greatest warrior.
Warrior 901.
And he was glaring at me.
Unmoving. Hatred spewed from his hard gaze.
I drew in a short breath, but it was cut off when 901 rolled to his feet. He stepped forward, his huge body towering above me. I choked back a scream.
He was the most intimidating male I had ever encountered. And I was trapped in his cell.
Completely alone. In the unwelcome company of a killer. And there was absolutely nothing I could do.

Michel’s Review

Riot is another great book in the Scarred Souls Series by Tillie Cole.  This gritty novel picks up where Ravage left off.  Valentin is trying to rescue his sister, 152 from the Arziani Georgian mob.  She has been trained to be a Mona, a pleasure slave.  She was conditioned by Mistress Arziani until Master demanded her return to the Blood Pit. She is the Master’s personal slave and ultimate tool in controlling 901, his champion fighter.

901 is the Master’s champion fighter in the blood pit.  At a young age he learned to how to survive in the world he was thrust into without choice.  The master has never been able to fully control 901.  When 901 expresses an interest in 152, Master uses her to make 901 bend to his wishes.

As the story unfolds, it’s heartbreaking, emotional, and victorious.  For 152 and 901, the victory is paid with blood and tears.

Tillie Cole has once again delivered an enthralling novel in the Scarred Souls series.  This series just keeps getting better.

Tillie Cole hails from a small town in the North-East of England. She grew up on a farm with her English mother, Scottish father and older sister and a multitude of rescue animals. As soon as she could, Tillie left her rural roots for the bright lights of the big city.

After graduating from Newcastle University with a BA Hons in Religious Studies, Tillie followed her Professional Rugby player husband around the world for a decade, becoming a teacher in between and thoroughly enjoyed teaching High School students Social Studies before putting pen to paper, and finishing her first novel.

Tillie has now settled in Austin, Texas, where she is finally able to sit down and write, throwing herself into fantasy worlds and the fabulous minds of her characters.

Tillie is both an independent and traditionally published author, and writes many genres including: Contemporary Romance, Dark Romance, Young Adult and New Adult novels.

When she is not writing, Tillie enjoys nothing more than curling up on her couch watching movies, drinking far too much coffee, while convincing herself that she really doesn’t need that extra square of chocolate.

“Who the hell books a flight for seven a.m.?” I grumble under my breath as I hoist my suitcase out from the boot of the taxi. I toss a twenty through the open window of the driver’s seat, telling him to keep the change. The whole twenty cents. Yeah, I’m generous like that.I’ve barely slept, which I guess is good considering the eighteen-hour flight I have ahead of me. Unless she’s going to want to talk the whole way, in which case no sleep is bad. Of course she is. Women always want to talk. Dying women probably take that to a whole other level. I chastise myself for being so insensitive. Let’s see if I can get through this trip without offending the girl. Or more realistically, let’s see if I can get through the week.

I stroll through departures, scanning the crowd for Erin. I’ve only met her twice now, but she was kind of unforgettable—hot in a she-has-no-idea-how-hot-she-is kind of way. Even that first time, all wet and dishevelled, she was mesmerizing.

My eyes fall on her and a smile tugs at my lips. She’s bent over her open bag, her long blond hair hanging loosely over her shoulder. It feels kind of wrong that I’m checking her out, given her situation, but I can’t help myself. I give it another minute before I walk over to join her.

“Hey,” I say.

She jumps, straightening up. Her face reddens when she faces me.

“You’re supposed to do the packing thing at home,” I tease her. Half her luggage is dumped onto the floor next to her, and I love that she doesn’t seem to give a shit.

“I’m looking for something,” she retorts, narrowing her stunning blue eyes.

I raise my eyebrows curiously and grin.

“It’s not important.”

“It obviously is,” I argue. I’m enjoying playing with her. “And the fact that you don’t want to tell me what it is makes me wonder…”

“Well stop wondering,” she replies. “If you want to do something useful, help me zip this up. It’s stuck.” She bends back over and gives the zip a yank, as if to prove her point.

“It’s stuck because you have this caught in it.” I grab hold of the offending material and back the zipper up. It releases, and I proudly hold it up. “Lacy and transparent,” I say when I realise I’m holding a pair of her panties. I let out a low whistle. “I’m impressed.”

She blushes and snatches them out of my hand, shoving them back in her suitcase. She zips it closed and glares at me. “I’m beginning to regret this already,” she growls.

“Never regret lacy panties, Erin,” I tease. “But seriously, I’m just messing with you. This trip will be great. Trust me. We’ll have fun.”

“I’m having trouble believing that,” she retorts, properly facing me for the first time.

Michel’s Review

Don’t Hold Back is the first book I have read written by Missy Johnson.  When I read the blurb for this book it sparked my interest.  I was looking for an emotional tearjerker and this book delivered.  It absolutely wrecked me.  By the end I was a blubbering mess.

***

It all begins with Erin determining what she is going to do with the remaining months of her life.  Does she commit suicide or put her family through more pain.  A stranger appears in her darkest moment and changes the destiny of her life.  His intervention gave her the will to control what was left of her life.  He showed her she had choices, an opportunity, and more control than she thought she had.  That one moment kick started her life.

***

Erin decided to travel the world rather than spend her last few months at home with her family.  She advertises for a traveling companion on Craigslist.  The potential applicants just aren’t working until the stranger she met in darkest moment applies.

***

Cade is a man with a huge problem.  He has a gambling addiction and has basically ruined his life.  He has hit rock bottom.  When his mother offers him money to be a traveling companion to a friend’s daughter, he jumps at the opportunity.  This is a chance to get his hands on money and turn his gambling debts around.

***

Cade and Erin embark on the journey of a lifetime.  It’s not the beautiful sights of Italy and Spain that make this trip spectacular, it’s the raw, brutally honest friendship that leads to love.  Their moments are precious and few.  In the end they can’t fight fate but their time together changed them both.  It gave them a life that was worth living.

All I can say about Don’t Hold Back is WOW!  This book touched every emotion. The story itself was delivered with brutal honesty and a realistic delivery, which made it more believable.  I absolutely loved this book.
