I am nothing if not competitive and I will not let this man – this delectable stranger – feel like he’s won some kind of Flirt Off. I don’t pull back far from the kiss, just enough to break our contact. My eyes flutter open at the same time his do and any hint of that smile on his lips is gone. I see the debate flickering behind those unreal crystal blue eyes and dark, heavy eyebrows. I feel the hesitation. His hand on my jaw gets looser. His thumb lifts up like it’s going to sweep my lips again, but it doesn’t. He stops because I pulled back and it’s made him uncertain. Good. I don’t want to be the only one off-balance here. But he doesn’t want to stop – I can sense that, feel his desire radiating off of him. I can see the debate in his head dancing behind those light eyes. Does he play it cool and wait for me to make another move, or does he just go for what he wants, admitting to himself and to me, that he can’t resist just as much as I can’t?

He tightens his grip on me and I smile for the briefest second before it’s forced from my face when he leans in and captures my lips again. This time he’s the one who gave in. Now we’re even.

Michel’s Review

Victoria Denault is melting the ice with her latest release in the Hometown Players series.  Winning It All is the fourth book in the series and by far the sexiest book.  The winning combination of a sexy Frenchman and NHL enforcer has Sebastian Deveau heating up the pages.

Sebastian Deveau has wanted a steady permanent relationship.  His quest to settle has left a trail of ex girlfriends and a bit of a tarnished reputation.  It’s not that he’s a chronic player, he just hasn’t met the right one.

Attending an opening night party at a local gym is going to turn the tides.  There he meets Shayne Beckford.  Shayne is an instructor at her brother’s gym.  She is also the daughter of a legendary NHL enforcer.  Her father’s career in hockey was great on the ice but his family suffered for his greatness.  He had numerous affairs and always put hockey first.  The last thing Shayne wants is to become involved with a hockey player.  She’d rather walk through the fires of hell first.

The chemistry between Sebastian and Shayne is undeniable.  From their first hook up to their manufactured dates, the sheets are blazing.  Chemistry is not enough for Shayne.

Sebastian will do everything in his power to prove he is not like her father.  He will have to prove he has the ability to put her first and hockey second.  He has to show Shayne he has what it takes to love her completely.  Winning Shayne’s heart is better than winning the Stanley Cup.  As far as Sebastian is concerned, it is Winning It All.

Victoria Denault delivered a fantastic story that kept me glued to the pages.  Between the sizzling chemistry and creative dialogue, I loved Shayne and Sebastian’s relationship.  I loved the involvement of all of the beloved players we have met in the previous books.  I can honestly say that the Hometown Players Series is one of my favorite sports romance / hockey romance series.  I can’t wait to see what player is going to score a goal next.

Read Winning It All by Victoria Denault.  It’s in the net!

Cade Hall has always been the golden boy of the gridiron. Because of his talent at football, coupled with his father’s wealth, he’s always gotten his way. But when a night of drunken debauchery lands him in hot water with the college athletic board, neither his influential father nor his charming grin can save him. Cade finds it a total buzz kill when he is sentenced to community service with troubled youth at an inner-city shelter. For Avery Prescott, senior year was a nightmare of epic proportions, and Cade Hall played the lead villain. After she fled her small town for college in the bright lights of Atlanta, she thought she had escaped the painful memories of her past. She never could have imagined Cade would waltz through the door of the outreach program she presided over. But Avery has news for Cade—she isn’t the same shy, doormat of a girl she was in high school. Since she holds Cade’s football future in her hands, she’s more than ready to make payback a real bitch.

Will they stay in the defensive zone or discover that sometimes life’s greatest lessons are learned the hard way?

“Is this one of those old-timey record players?”

“A Victrola,” I answered as I joined him.

Cade snapped his fingers. “That’s right. There was one of these at my grandparents’ house.” He eyed the contraption curiously. “Does it work?”

“Sure.” I set my cup down before winding up the crank. Then I placed the needle on the record, and a slow instrumental tune came out of the Victrola’s horn. At Cade’s groan, I grinned. “Not a fan of classical music?”

“No. It’s more about the fact that it’s one of Strauss’s waltzes.”

Cocking my brows at him, I asked, “You know Strauss?”

With a snort, Cade said, “Don’t look so surprised, and no, I didn’t learn about him in Harlington’s music appreciation class either.”

I held up my hands. “I wasn’t alluding to anything.”

“Yes, you were alluding, as you say, to the stereotype of me being an uncivilized jock,” Cade teased in a snooty-sounding voice.

“I’m sorry. I’ve got to stop doing that. You really are so much more than a jock.”

He swept his hand to his heart. “Why, thank you.”

“So tell me how you know Strauss.”

“I have waltzed at ten cotillions and three debutante balls.”

“Wow. That’s quite impressive.”

“What about you?”

“I’ve never been to a cotillion or deb ball.”

“No, I mean, haven’t you ever waltzed before?”

I laughed. “Oh yeah, I often practice my dance skills out in the corn.”

“Every lady should know how to dance.”

“But I’m not a lady.”

Cade smiled. “Yeah. You are.” When I started to protest, he said, “Money and position aren’t what make a lady. It’s what’s inside you that counts.”

His words and his tone caused the breath to wheeze out of my lungs. Just when I thought he couldn’t surprise me any more with the things he said, he went and said something like that. “Thank you,” I finally mumbled.

“You’re welcome.” The world seemed to slow to a crawl around us as we stood there staring at each other. The sound of Cade clapping his hands together caused me to jump. “Okay. One waltz lesson coming up.”

“I’m going to warn you that you’re probably going to regret this. I’m the worst dancer ever.”

“How can anyone who plays the piano suck at dancing?”

“I’m not sure how it’s possible, but trust me, it is.”

Cade laughed. “We’ll see.”

A tingling jolt of electricity shot through me when Cade took one of my hands in his. After he put his other hand on the small of my back, he drew me closer to him. Even with all the times I had sat next to him while we worked on our project, I hadn’t been this close.

“Now you put your other hand on my shoulder.”

“Okay.”

“Step back with your left foot and then bring your right to the side.” After I followed Cade’s lead, he said, “Now bring your left foot to your right, and then step forward with your right.”

My mind spun as I frantically tried processing Cade’s instructions. Somehow it managed to click together, and I followed his lead. “Hey, you’ve got it,” he remarked with a smile.

“It’s not because of me—it must be the teacher.” I glanced up at him and smiled. “Sports, brains, and dancing; you’re really a true triple threat.”

“You forgot devastating good looks and charm.”

I grinned. “Does that make you a quintuple threat?”

“Make it a sextuple threat if you throw in the money.”

“I should have known you’d find a way to have ‘sex’ in your title.”

Cade threw his head back and laughed. “Always busting my balls, Prescott.”

“Yep. Just consider me your Little Ball Buster like Judith in Walking Dead was called Little Ass Kicker.”

Cade’s brows rose in surprise. “You watch Walking Dead?”

“Sure I do.”

“That surprises me.”

“Why?”

“I guess I just figured you only watched pretentious stuff like Downton Abbey.”

Downton Abbey is not pretentious.”

Cade grinned. “I’ll take that as a yes that you watch it.”

“I certainly do.”

“At least I’m 1 and 1 on picking the TV shows you like.”

“While you know me pretty well, you have a lot more to learn, Mr. Hall,” I teased.

“I look forward to you educating me.”

As I stared into his face, Cade’s expression grew serious. The idea of educating him suddenly seemed to take on a deeper meaning—one of both mental and physical knowledge.

Cade dipped his head to where our mouths were just inches apart. His breath fanned across my cheek, causing me to shiver. I stared into his eyes, silently pleading with him to go ahead and kiss me. We’d already been down this road before. Since Thanksgiving night, I’d wanted nothing more than to feel his lips on mine again.

When he finally kissed me, it sent energy humming all over my body. I’d kissed other boys, but it had never felt the way it did with Cade. It was all-consuming of my mind, body, and spirit.

Considering his experience, it shouldn’t have been too surprising that Cade was a good kisser. What surprised me the most was the emotion behind his kiss. It ran so much deeper than just a physical act, as if he was putting his heart and soul into kissing me.

Cade deepened the kiss by plunging his tongue into my mouth. It tangled along with mine in a waltz of its own composing. My hand snaked up his back to capture the hair at the base of his neck, and I ran my fingers through the silky strands, marveling at how much softer it was than I had imagined.

The Victrola ran out of steam, and the only sound filling the room was heavy breathing. At the loss of music, Cade stopped leading me around the floor, and his hands slid underneath my buttocks. He gripped the globes of my ass before hoisting me up to wrap my legs around his, and I molded myself tighter against him. I couldn’t seem to get enough of him—the way his strong arms felt around me, his thick waist against my legs, his broad, muscular back underneath my hands. Even though I knew I shouldn’t, I wanted all of him.

When we crashed into a chest of drawers, Cade momentarily released my lips to breathlessly ask, “Are you okay?”

“Mmhmm.” I gazed into his hooded eyes. “Don’t stop. Please don’t stop.”

I rubbed myself against the ridge in Cade’s pants, causing him to groan against my throat. “Jesus, Prescott, if you keep doing that, I won’t be able to stop.” When I did it again, my action was rewarded with a growl.

Cade’s wild eyes glanced around the room before leading us over to the wide red settee in the back corner. We collapsed onto the smooth velvet material. I widened my legs to allow Cade’s hips between them and his mouth sought out mine in a frantic kiss.

As our tongues battled against each other, Cade’s hand came to my breast. He kneaded and cupped it over the fabric of my uniform, my nipples hardening under his touch. When he began undoing the buttons of my dress, he broke the kiss to glance at me as if asking my permission. At my nod, he practically ripped the remaining buttons open.

He gave me a sheepish grin as he pulled me into a sitting position. “Sorry about that.”

“It’s okay,” I said as I slid my arms out of the sleeves.

My breath hitched when Cade’s arms snaked around my back to undo my bra. Once it was unhooked, I couldn’t help bringing my arms to cover my chest and keep the bra in place. I hated that in this moment I couldn’t seem to get past my modesty, or my fear that my average-sized chest would turn him off.

Cade tilted my chin with his fingers, forcing me to look him in the eye. “You sure you’re okay with this, Prescott?”

“I am, I promise.”

“Then what’s wrong?”

“I’m just a little scared,” I whispered.

“That I’ll hurt you?” Cade questioned with a wounded look.

I gave a quick jerk of my head. “That you won’t like what you see.”

“Huh?”

“You’ve been with so many other girls. I’m afraid I won’t measure up.”

His expression darkened. “That’s the stupidest fucking thing I’ve ever heard.”

I ducked my head. “I’m sorry, but I can’t help the way I feel.”

Cade cupped my face in his hands. “There’s only right here and right now, and there’s no one else but you and me. None of the past, just us and this moment.”

My heartbeat thrummed wildly at his sentiment. “Okay,” I murmured as I stared deeply into his eyes.

“And you could never not be beautiful to me. I like everything about you, both inside and out.” At what must’ve been my incredulous look, Cade grinned. “And I’m not just saying that so you’ll let me in your pants.”

“I know you wouldn’t.” Deep down, I knew it to be the truth. If Cade had really wanted to just screw me, he would have attempted it over the past two months.

“I wouldn’t be here tonight if I didn’t want to be with you for the long haul.”

Once again, my heart began to beat so erratically that I felt a little dizzy. “Really?”

He nodded. “You’re all I need, Avery.”

Michel’s Review

Some people learn through the school of hard knocks while others learn by examples.  For some people life is a breeze, everything comes easily without much thought.

Everything came easy for Cade Hall. He’s a star football player at Georgia Tech.  He isn’t the typical jock, he’s special because he is a triple threat.  He has looks, personality, and brains.  He’s also a filthy rich, spoiled brat.  He has a knack for getting in trouble and a dependency on daddy bailing him out when push came to shove.  He has no qualms using his athletic status or flashing his social status to get what he wants. He utilizes every asset and gift he has been blessed with to skate through life.  He has never considered how his actions affected other people.  He has never had to own up to his digressions.  It’s not that he was a bad person, he just isn’t a really good person.

When a college prank lands him in the hot seat, he thinks daddy can bail him out with false threats or a hefty donation.  The Dean of Athletics has a different opinion.  He has given Cade an ultimatum , he has to do community service, or lose his position in football program for the remainder of his college career.  He has to serve forty hours a week throughout the entire summer.  He has to work the service around his football schedule.  If he screws up, he’s out of the football program.  Cade loves football as much as he loves himself.

His sentence is to work at an inner city center for at risk teenagers.  It should be an easy gig.  What he didn’t count on was Avery Prescott being in charge of his duties at the center.  Cade and Avery have a history that didn’t end well.  She was one of Cade’s victims in high school.  She is the one regret Cade has carried in his soul.  Now he has to face the consequences of his actions.

Cade is not only going to learn humility, he is also going to learn humanity.  His time with Avery and the teenagers is going to change how he looks at himself in the mirror.  He’s going to become a better man.  A man that can be respected and admired.  A man that learns by examples and takes it to heart.

Avery Prescott finally has the opportunity to make Cade Hall pay for what he did to her in high school.  She has moved on from the humiliation and devastation, but she never forgot.  The one thing that she did forget is that Cade Hall also had real potential.  There was more than the egotistical rich boy that everyone sees.  There’s a man with a real beating heart.  Still a little revenge is good for the soul.  Seeing Cade Hall grovel will bring her great joy.  Seeing Cade Hall live up to his potential will make her heart soar.

Can Cade Hall be redeemed? Can Avery Prescott forgive him?  Can the two find the love they were meant to share?  Will Cade and Avery help change the lives of the teenagers who desperately need someone in their corner cheering them on?

I was drawn into this book with the very first paragraph.  I could not put it down.  There was an entertaining as well as emotional story that went beyond the typical new adult romance.  Katie Ashley has a gift of bringing her characters to life and making their story unforgettable.  I mean that in a true sense because some of secondary characters were from a previous book, Don’t Hate The Player, Hate The Game ( which I loved), that was released in May 2013.  Three years later these dynamic secondary characters are standing strong and screaming for their own book.

There is a special bonus book, that I mentioned above, at the end of The Hard Way.  Katie graciously has given her readers a sensational gift and another fantastic reading experience.

The Hard Way is my favorite Katie Ashley book to date.

Boys of Fall Series – Book 3

By Shannon Stacey

Synopsis

The New York Times bestselling author of Defending Hearts returns to small-town New Hampshire where a substitute football coach and a guidance counselor tackle love.

They were the golden boys of fall: Stewart Mills High School’s legendary championship football team. Fourteen years later, they’re back to relive their glory, save the team—and find themselves again . . .

Sam Leavitt has returned home to Stewart Mills with one goal: to fill in for Coach McDonnell and lead the high school football team to the championship. He doesn’t have time for distractions or commitments—but he’s unable to resist falling for the sexy guidance counselor he shared a hot night with months ago.

Jen Cooper knows what she’s looking for long-term, and it’s not Sam—even though the night they shared was explosive. Now, with Sam back in town and working by her side, picking up where they left off is too great a temptation to resist. But before long their fun fling is looking like a future together. And as the championship approaches, Sam is faced with a big decision that will either break them apart—or help them find their way home.

I love this series by Shannon Stacey.  It reminds of me Friday Night Lights combined with Pay It Forward.  There are so many positive messages about life, friendship, family, and love teamed up with a sizzling romance in this sports romance category. It showcases the positive influences from the past leaving an impression. The will to pay it forward is unquestionable.

Sam Leavitt is summoned back to Stewart Mills to fill in for Coach McDonnell. For the life of him he can’t figure out why the coach wants him to fill this position.  Coach McDonnell remembers the troubled kid with more black marks against him turning himself around through high school football.  This kid turned his bleak future around and made something of his life.  Coach McDonnell believes he has the right stuff to mentor these impressionable young men.  Coach McDonnell also recognizes that Sam needs to make peace with his past.

Sam’s journey towards forgiveness from the past will guarantee a healthy, happy future that includes love and family. His journey will make your heart swell with joy.  His influence on the teenage football players is compassionate, positive, and insightful.  He understands their teenage mentality along with the quirks that hide the impressionable young man beneath the surface.  He understands peer pressure, family pressure, and community pressure.  He understands low self esteem and sense of rejection.  He’s been there, he was that boy fourteen years ago.

Over the summer he met Jen Cooper, the school guidance counselor.  Jen not only understood his background but also saw what a fine, honorable man he had become. It was too bad that they only had a short encounter.  With Sam being back in town, it is the opportunity for something more.

Shannon scored big with Homecoming. It had the perfect blend of small town romance and sports romance.  I loved every word, every play, and every character.  I highly recommend this book.

Excerpt

Fuuuuuuuuuck! This seriously was not happening. Just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse, apparently the universe didn’t just hate me. It fucking despised me. Not only was I stuck working forty hours a week at this shithole, but now I had the worst blast from my past standing before me. Avery Fucking Prescott.

In every “manwhore with seemingly no soul’s” world, there is one girl he regrets. One girl he thinks about from time to time. One girl he measures all the other ones against. One girl he even cries about when he’s shitfaced.

Mine was Avery Fucking Prescott.

I couldn’t help noticing that the Avery standing in front of me didn’t seem the same. Sure, she still had the same long, dark hair that she swept back in one of those ponytail things. Gone were the glasses, which made it a lot easier to see her green eyes that had flecks of gold in them. Of course, today there was pure and unadulterated hate burning in them directed at me where back in the day, there had been love.

But I had managed to kill that love by being a prick. Yeah, I’m sure you’re thinking that isn’t all too shocking based on the pure stupidity you’ve seen me exhibit so far. The thing is that Avery brought out the good that was buried deep down inside me. The good that you needed a fucking bulldozer to unearth.

While there were slight differences in her appearance, her entire personality seemed different, and no, I don’t mean just about how she hated me with a fiery passion. She wasn’t the wide-eyed, innocent farm girl who seemed so out of place at Harlington Prep. It was like she’d had a personality transplant. It reminded of me of what happened to my older sister, Catherine, the summer she turned fifteen, and my mother sent her off to some glamour school shit to detox the awkward out of her. When she came back a month later, it was like she had become a Stepford Kid. Catherine no longer took the time to play with me. She had “more important” things to do like contouring her brows or preparing for cotillions. Things were never the same between us after that.

My ego couldn’t help wondering if what had happened between us had caused the seismic shift in Avery. Like I’d broken the Old Avery with my actions, and this was what had been rebuilt in its place. But another voice rationalized that unlike me, Avery had probably gotten her shit together in the last three years. College had matured her.

After a few moments of a silent standoff, Avery said, “Hello again, Cade.” Her words might have been polite, but her voice was strained. I could tell it was taking everything within her not to go off on me.

“Oh, you two know each other?” Tammy or Theresa, or whatever the hell her name was, questioned.

Do we know each other? Oh yeah, we know each other. Like in the biblical sense. I can even tell you about the heart-shaped birthmark on the inside of her right thigh.

But I knew I would mortify the hell out of Avery if I said anything like that in front of her boss. So instead, I cocked my brows at Avery for her to take the lead on how she wanted us to respond to that question.

“A little. We went to high school together,” she replied diplomatically. The wounded look that momentarily flashed in her eyes told an entirely different story—the story where I played the villain.

But Tammy didn’t seem to pick up on it. “Well, isn’t it a small world?” she mused.

“Yeah,” Avery and I said in unison.

Tammy smiled at me. “I was just about to sing all of Avery’s praises to you, but since you know her, I don’t need to waste my breath, right?”

“Right,” I muttered.

“Well, then. I’ll leave you two alone to catch up, and for Avery to show you the ropes.”

“Thank you, Tamar,” Avery said politely.

Oh it was Tamar. Shit, I needed to remember that. “Yeah, thanks, Tamar.”

Tamar started out of the door and then stopped. She threw a grin over her shoulder. “Now, Avery, just because you know Cade, you can’t go easy on him. He has a debt to pay to Georgia Tech’s athletic department.”

Avery glared at me before flashing a fake smile at Tamar. “Oh, I promise to make him earn his keep.”

Apparently Tamar wasn’t picking up on the heavy tension between us. “Unfuckingbeliveable,” I muttered under my breath.

“Excuse me?” Avery demanded.

I held up my hands. “Nothing.”

Avery crossed her arms over her chest. “I never thought I’d have to see you again.” She shook her head at me, which caused her ponytail to swish back and forth like a whip. “Yet here you are standing before me. I guess, I must’ve done something epic to piss the universe off this much to put you back in my path.”

Whoa, that was sure as hell not what I was expecting. “I could say the same.”

Her green eyes narrowed to fury-filled slits. “Excuse me? You have some nerve to stand here in front of me and say that considering what you did.”

She was right. Only an epic tool would not immediately apologize for what I did to her. It should have been the first words out of my mouth. And not just to make things run smoothly here at The Ark, but because it was the right thing to do. After all, she had truly been an innocent in the whole fucked up situation of me being an emotionally crippled bastard. I’d let her be tortured by a psychotic chick who thought she belonged to me. I’d humiliated her with my deceptive words and cruel actions. But the greatest of my crimes was I had broken her heart.

But in this instance, I was being King Epic Tool because I couldn’t get those words to come out of my mouth. It wasn’t something I struggled with today. I’d had three years to stay those two words. Hell, I’d started off a hundred texts, but I’d never sent them. I’d even done a few stalkerish drives by her house to say how sorry I was in person, but being an emotional pansy ass, I had never gotten out of the car.

So instead of taking the emotional high road, I went slumming. “It’s been three years, Prescott. You really need to get over that.”

Michel’s Review

When I first began reading The Pre-Season, I thought I was reading an erotic novella.  After I finished this short story, I realized it was the first step in Josie Savage’s journey to becoming an independent woman.   A vacation affair with an older hot Navy Seal makes her realize how important her upcoming college career is.

Josie and Elijah are perfect together in and out of bed.  Their red hot affair is going to leave them both with steamy memories and fantasy material.  Their lives are on two very different paths.  Josie is heading off to college on the east coast at Montgomery University.  Elijah is a Navy Seal.  He’s bound to his duty and serves with honor.

What started out as a vacation with her superstar NFL quarterback father begins to change the dynamics in the father/ daughter relationship.  Their life together has been a very rocky road.  From denial to neglect, Josie’s father has always been out for himself.  He craves the lime light, fast women, and hero worship.  Josie just wants a father that loves her for who she is.

The relationship begins to change as the time slips away in vacation paradise.  Elijah and Josie’s father are both going to have to let her go.  Josie has to find the courage to leave both these dynamic men behind.

Once I got into The Backup, the first full length novel in the series, I realized how much this short story added depth to the woman Josie has become.

Michel’s Review

Josie Savage’s story starts right where it left off in The Pre-Season.

Her arrival at Montgomery University is anything but quiet.  Once again her father is stealing the limelight as she moves in.  She wants her peers to see her as an individual rather than Joey Savage’s daughter.  It doesn’t help that he bribes her roommates with new computers and threatens the guys outside her Campus Home.

Josie slowly begins to settle in.  She has bonded with her roommates and it looks like freshman year is off to a great start.  At her first college party she catches the attention of both quarterbacks, the starter- Mark Bishop and the backup -Runner Rarity. One is completely available and the biggest manwhore on campus, the other is taken by the meanest woman on campus.  Both are super hot, but one makes her heart race.  The one that is unavailable.  One is a naturally talented athlete that doesn’t need football to succeed in the future and the other is an incredibly talented, hungry player waiting to take the field and make his future.

What starts out as friendship with both of these incredible guys turns into a love triangle that tests her friendships with her roommates, her reputation, and makes her a target for the meanest woman on campus.

One will steal her heart and become the most important man in her life.  The other will become the best friend and strongest ally she has in school.

Fate will step in and prove which player commands the field.  Fate will also test his commitment to the game.  Josie will have find the strength to stay by his side and believe that this is not her father all over again.

I really enjoyed this book.  It was a great introduction to a colorful, dynamic cast of characters that will play a huge role in this series.  It showcased exactly how college is in the freshman year, as well as the importance of college sports.  It also showcased family dynamics and how those relationships can mold our lives.

Synopsis

Montana Tierney had her college path planned. But then her father took the head-football coaching job at Montgomery University and all of her plans came crashing down. Free tuition at MU meant Montana would be going there instead of the college of her dreams. To make matters worse, she has a crush on one of the players on her dad’s new team. Mark Bishop is a notorious playboy who makes it clear to Montana that he doesn’t have time for inexperienced girlfriends. Humiliated, Montana is moving on when Mark admits to himself and to Montana that he has feelings for her. Just as it seems Montana will end up with the hottest guy on the team, a brutal on-field injury threatens to end Montana and Mark’s relationship before it can even begin.

Book two of the well-received “Montgomery University” series of New Adult romances.

4StarPlaid

Michel’s Review

Montana Tierney’s freshman year is quite different from the year she expected.  Rather than going to Notre Dame and spending her freshman year with her boyfriend, she’s going to a small university on the east coast.  Her father took the job as head football coach.  The tuition is free and her family is close by.  She’s left the midwest and her friends behind.  Being the youngest child in the family, her siblings are pursuing their own careers and lives.  She’s stuck in a world that revolves around football.  Her roommates are quite different from her, one is outgoing ,super friendly, and tied to the football team through her boyfriend. The other is withdrawn, moody, and anti social on a good day.  She’s in the same Campus Home that the football team resides in as well.  She can’t escape her life. After her long distance boyfriend breaks up with her, she is determined to try to fit in and pave her own path.

Mark Bishop is finishing out his senior year quite differently.  Rather than being the starting quarterback, the new coach has moved him to playing tight end.  He’s not overly sure about the position but at least he’s starting.  His natural athletic ability and love for the game is all that matters.  After his senior year he will be done with football.  He will take his place in his family’s wealthy world.

He befriends the coach’s daughter and it leads his senior year down a new path.  The friendship is tested by the sexual tension that lies beneath the surface.  She is also forbidden territory.

Montana is testing her new independence and isn’t making the best decisions.  Rather than trying to find a nice guy to hang out with, she’s flirting with the wrong kind of guys.  She’s attracted to Mark Bishop and knows he’s off limits.  She can’t keep herself away from the sexy football player.

Montana’s mistakes and relationship with Mark turn into something much bigger than either anticipated.  Some of her mistakes could endanger her father’s position as coach and hurt the football program.  When she finally makes the right choice, fate steps in and changes the path once again.

Mark and Montana are going to be tested in every way.  Both are going to struggle to find what is more important, football or love.  When it comes down to it, there isn’t really a choice.

Once again I was glued to the pages waiting to see how the Montgomery coeds survived another year at Montgomery University.  All of the dynamic characters have captured my heart.  Football isn’t the only thing happening on campus.  Love is in the air and ready to score.

Synopsis

Maddy Cassidy has hit her stride at Montgomery University. She has great friends, stellar grades, and sees no bumps on the road to a drama-free junior year. Classes haven’t even started when sparks fly between her and Elijah Hart, a moody Navy SEAL who’s landed in academia after a devastating battlefield experience. He’s not planning on falling for anyone until Maddy’s looks and brains start to get under his skin. Will someone as beautiful as she is be able to look past his life-changing injury? And will Elijah’s passion for Maddy be able to protect her from an unexpected danger?
**Contains plot-driven descriptive consensual sex**

5StarPlaid

Michel’s Review

Maddy Cassidy could care less about football.  She is there for the academics, a degree in  physics.  Her social life doesn’t revolve around the football team like her roommate Josie Savage.  She’s really not interested in dating.  She just wants to complete her junior year with stellar grades.

Junior year is starting out quite differently than expected.  One of her former roommates has moved on to become an exchange student in London.  Their new roommate Nella, an exchange student from London, is annoying. To top it off, her first encounter with one of the other students at the swimming pool has left her seething.  Not a good start.

Elijah Hart is at Montgomery University, as a guest professor, after he was severely injured. His career as a Navy Seal has ended quite differently than he thought it would.  He’s grateful he’s alive after losing his leg.  Fate has stepped in and landed him at the same university as Josie Savage.  Their torrid vacation affair turned into a close friendship.

He was shocked when the sexy coed he insulted at the pool is none other than one of Josie’s roommate.  He finds Maddy intriguing.  He wants to get to know her better.  He didn’t count on the complications that come from Maddy and Josie’s history.  He’s willing to do anything to get Maddy in his bed and in his life.

Life at Montgomery University is anything but boring.  Maddy has become this season’s poster girl for the football team.  One the players is head over heels in love with her.  She’s not attracted to him, she’s attracted to the new sexy, egotistical professor.

As Elijah and Maddy’s relationship heats up, so does her notoriety.  She is  trying to dissuade a volatile football player attentions, repair her friendship with Josie, learn to tolerate Nella, and keep her grades up.  She’s under pressure.

The pressure escalates as her relationship with Elijah becomes more solid.  What neither of them anticipated was a very dangerous stalker determined to have Maddy for himself.

It’s a life or death situation.  Elijah may be a former Navy Seal but it may not be enough to save Maddy.

I could not put this book down.  This book turned into a pure romantic suspense novel that had me on the edge of my seat with my heart racing a mile a minute.  Kathryn Renard found her niche writing this book.  It was fantastic. I am looking forward to more from this dynamic author. Her writing talent is blossoming.

book blurb

From the USA Today Bestselling Authors, A.M. Hargrove and Terri E. Laine comes a new standalone sexy sports romance, Sidelined – A Wilde Players Dirty Romance.

Cassidy

I hate him… I love him… He destroyed me… and now He needs me.

Fletcher Wilde, a gorgeous quarterback in the NFL, is the man I should have married. He’s is the one that walked away, choosing football over me. He shouldn’t be back, especially not looking that good. And not sitting in my waiting room chair with a bum leg and confident cocky grin that sets my insides on fire.

It’s impossible to forget how he rocked my world both in and out of the bedroom. Keeping things professional won’t be easy, especially given our history. My mission, however, is getting him back on the field—the place he loved more than me, while not losing myself in him all over again.

Fletcher

Cassidy Miller is the only physical therapist in town. And after a potential career ending injury, she’s my ticket back on the field or my NFL career is over. Unfortunately, she’s the same Cassidy who ripped my heart to shreds when I thought we were a team.

Sexy and intelligent, she’s the last person I thought I’d see again. As it turns out, she looks better than ever, making me want that smart mouth of hers doing things to me that would drive a sane man crazy.

Lucky for me, my determination is legendary. Winning is in my blood, which makes me number one on the field. Being a single-minded man, my focus is to get her back and this time for good.

excerpt

“Can we start from scratch? Like this whole night?” I ask.

“What do you mean?”

A frustrated sigh leaves me. “I don’t want it to be like this between us.”

I expect a snappy response, but that’s not what I get. “I don’t really either. But after you dumped me—”

What is she saying? “I didn’t dump you. I had to leave to go with the pros.”

She looks at me like she wants to say duh.

“Yeah, you dumped me for the pros.”

My hand drives through my hair. “That’s not how it went. I had to leave, and you were supposed to come.”

That one word has me harder than I thought possible. She speaks, but I’m barely coherent to what she’s saying.

“I had to finish college. Then there was PT school, my dad, and I couldn’t possibly go.”

Reaching out, I take her wrist and pull her closer. Her eyes widen, making her look like a doe in the middle of the road. And, damn, if that doesn’t make her my prey.

The words crawl out of my mouth like a growl. “Take your clothes off and get in this tub with me.” I shut off the water and push the button to get the jets running. This is a dead-end conversation, like it will always be.

Her head shakes, sending all that hair I want to wrap around my hand flying.

“You’re crazy.”

“Maybe.” I haven’t let go of her wrist, determined to convince her to stay. “Everyone’s entitled to a little crazy.

When she doesn’t answer, I give her hand a slight tug. “Take your clothes off, Cass, and get in here.”

“I might hurt your knee.”

“Chicken.” I splash her with some water.

She jumps back, and I lose my hold on her. “Fletcher, you got me wet.”

Her eyes narrow as my grin widens. “That’s the idea.”

Michel’s Review

The football season is almost upon us.  The training camps are underway and the fans are gearing up for opening day.  Sports romance fans are also getting in the mood for some football, or should a say a hot football romance.  A. M. Hargrove and Terri E. Laine have delivered the opening football romance for the readers to devour.  First up on the players roster is Fletcher Wilde, NFL quarterback.  Are you ready for some hot passes and scoring touchdowns that will make your panties wet and your heart flutter?  Fletcher has the plays.

Fletcher Wilde has returned home to North Carolina on his season break to take care of his parents home and dogs while they are away on vacation.  Nothing ever happens in this sleepy small town and it’s a good rest before summer training camp.  He hasn’t been home since he signed with the NFL.

Twenty five seconds can be a game changer.  It can change the coarse of the game or change the outcome of your life.  Fletcher knows this but didn’t realize the impact until twenty five seconds changed everything.  His career is on the line and his heart is taking back his life.  A hit and run accident changed Fletcher Wilde’s life.  It brought him back to Cassidy, the only woman he has ever loved.

Cassidy Miller was devastated when Fletcher left her for the NFL.  Picking up the pieces of her broken heart was difficult.  She moved on, finished college, married, started a career, and became a business owner. On paper it looked like her life was perfect.  The fact is that she had a miserable marriage and is now divorced.  Although she is the only therapist in town, her business is struggling.  When Fletcher Wilde walks through her door for therapy, her heart is on the line.

Cassidy and Fletcher are finally going to get closure or the happily ever after they were meant to have.  They will have to deal with Fletcher’s injuries, Cassidy’s mistrust, a conniving agent, overprotective BFF, greedy team owners, and a diabolical ex husband.  Fletcher’s game for anything as long as Cassidy is his end zone.

A. M. Hargrove and Terri E. Laine have a winner with this second chance romance.  I’m looking forward to seeing what Wilde is up next the game roster.

Sidelined was the perfect, sexy sports romance to kick off the season.

Kicked

By Celia Aaron

Trent Carrington.

Trent Mr. Perfect-Has-Everyone-Fooled Carrington.

He’s the star quarterback, university scholar, and happens to be the sexiest man I’ve ever seen. He shines at any angle, and especially under the Saturday night stadium lights where I watch him from the sidelines. But I know the real him, the one who broke my heart and pretended I didn’t exist for the past two years.

I’m the third-string kicker, the only woman on the team and nothing better than a mascot. Until I’m not. Until I get my chance to earn a full scholarship and join the team as first-string. The only way I’ll make the cut is to accept help from the one man I swore to never trust again. The problem is, with each stolen glance and lingering touch, I begin to realizing that trusting Trent isn’t the problem. It’s that I can’t trust myself when I’m around him.

This is a full-length, standalone American football romance novel with hot guys in tight pants who really know how to handle their balls.

Kicked Teaser 2.jpg

A movie started playing on the back of each seat, but I focused on Cordy. Her polo was unbuttoned, and I could see the swell of her breast. My cock went from fight mode to fuck mode in the time it took me to shift more toward Cordy.

“Are we…” She nibbled her lip.

I grabbed her chin and turned her to face me. “What?”

“Are we like, together?” She stumbled over her next words, as if she couldn’t get them out fast enough. “I know it’s too early to DTR—”

“DTR?” I grinned.

“Define the relationship.” She furrowed her brow.

“Right. Well, I define it as you’re mine and I’m yours. How’s that?”

Her gaze brightened. My phone buzzed again, but I ignored it.

“Someone’s calling you.” She glanced to my pants.

“It’s my mother.”

“Oh.”

I’d told Cordy about the difficulties I had with my mom, but I didn’t go into the details of how much acrimony our relationship would stir up. Mom had no doubt seen the press conference. She would know. Mom always knew. She was waiting for me to pick up the phone so she could load me down with Carlotta’s tears, my family’s legacy, and the bright future she thought I was throwing away. I’d deal with it. Later.

I leaned close to Cordy’s ear. “Put your jacket on your lap.”

She turned to me, a wary look on her heart-shaped face. “Why?”

“It’s cold.”

“Not really.”

“You’re trembling.”

She arched a brow. “Not because I’m cold.”

“Then why?”

“Because you—” She seemed to rethink her answer and, instead of responding, pulled her jacket into her lap as I’d requested.

“Good. My hands are cold.” I slid my palm along her thigh beneath the jacket.

She jumped and looked at me with a scandalized expression. “Trent!” She hissed through clenched teeth.

“What?” I pressed my fingers higher until I reached the apex of her thighs, then I eased my hand between her legs.

“We can’t do this here.” She glanced around, but no one could see us in the dark, and if anyone was looking, all they’d see was us sitting together and Cordy’s jacket in her lap.

I rubbed my index finger along the seam of her jeans over her clit. “We can.”

She gripped my wrist, but I didn’t stop. Her breathing grew faster as I stroked her. My cock demanded reciprocity, but it would have to wait. I wanted to pleasure her more than anything. When her lips parted, I knew I had her.

I pressed my lips to her ear. “Unbutton your jeans, and unzip them.”

She tilted her hips forward and did as I’d said.

“You’ll have to be quiet.” I ran my fingers along her quivering stomach and she let out a small sound.

4.5 Star

Michel’s Review

I have to give kudos to Celia Aaron, she brought college football to life.  I was impressed with the fact that her “football star” was a female.  Celia Aaron’s knowledge of the game, tenacious research of the kicker position, and blow by blow descriptive plays made the book come alive.   The relationship between Cordie and Trent was the perfect push and pull kind of relationship readers look for in a new adult romance.

Cordie and Trent have a history.  They were skirting on a relationship two years prior to becoming teammates on the football team.  It was the typical rich boy and poor girl issues that kept them apart.  Cordie and Trent both walked away broken hearted.

Cordie is the first female kicker in college history.  She became the third string kicker to appease the equal opportunity regulation in college sports.  Her first love is soccer but personal finances have forced her to accept a partial scholarship in football.  It doesn’t matter because she is the MAV (Mascot With A Vagina ) rather than a valued player.  Fate has a way of stepping in and changing the rules of the game.  The first string kicker is injured and out for the season.  The first string kicker position is open and the team is holding walk on try outs.  This is an opportunity for Cordie to show her stuff and get a full time scholarship.  Trent volunteers to help her win this position.  He is going to train her and make her the strongest contender in the try outs.

Trent has ulterior motives.  It’s his second chance with Cordie.  He knows he screwed up two years ago.  He wants to make things right and make Cordie his own.

Cordie and Trent not only have to deal with the demands of the football team but also have to deal with every obstacle blocking their relationship.  There are so many obstacles coming in so many different directions.  They are going to have to fight for their love.

Kicked was very entertaining and put me in the mood for football season.  Celia Aaron did a stellar job writing this book.

Alessandra Torre is one of those writers that can deliver a good book, no matter the genre, the theme, or heat level.  She draws the readers into her stories and holds them captive until the very last word.  Moonshot took me by complete surprise.  The way Alessandra synchronized this story was pure genius.

Moonshot started out as a sweet new adult type of romance that evolved into a contemporary romance based around baseball (sports romance).  Throughout the first half of the story I was thinking to myself, ” I thought this was supposed to be a romantic suspense novel”.  As I became involved with the characters personalities and their immature, impossible young relationship, I became deeply invested in the characters lives.  Like any good new adult novel, it was loaded with angst and drama.  The story soon evolved into a second chance romance four years later when the characters had a chance to mature and become successful adults invested in their careers.  Once again they are facing  impossible situations that prevent making their relationship permanent.  I was still looking for the imminent threat that would turn this story into the thriller novel I was waiting for. Suddenly, BAMM! Out of nowhere, the story is a full blown suspense novel with threats and danger lurking in the shadows.  Like the characters, I never saw this coming.  The hints were right there, subtlety camouflaged in random chapters throughout the story.  By the time I reached the second half of the book, the story became something more than a romance. It became intensely alive! The final revelations were shocking.  I was blown away by the who and whys.  I didn’t see any of this complex plot coming into play with this conclusion!

Moonshot spans a four year period.  Ty and Chase started as young lovers with an impossible chance at a real relationship.  Four years later, life has intervened and made their relationship all the more impossible.  Through all the strife and impossibilities, their love for another grew stronger.  The only thing standing in their way is their love for baseball and their commitment to the New York Yankees.  Their love for the team may cost them their happily ever after.  Their happily ever after is almost as impossible as hitting the Moonshot.

I loved everything about this book.  I think my favorite part was the how this story was meticulously synchronized to deliver a very complex plot.

Moonshot will appeal to readers of all genres.  Alessandra Torre combined new adult, second chance romance, sports romance, and romantic suspense into a page turner novel.

Read Moonshot by Alessandra Torre.

Hockey player Leo Trevi has spent the last six years trying to do two things: get over the girl who broke his heart, and succeed in the NHL. But on the first day he’s called up to the newly franchised Brooklyn Bruisers, Leo gets checked on both sides, first by the team’s coach—who has a long simmering grudge, and then by the Bruisers’ sexy, icy publicist—his former girlfriend Georgia Worthington.

Saying goodbye to Leo was one of the hardest things Georgia ever had to do—and saying hello again isn’t much easier. Georgia is determined to keep their relationship strictly professional, but when a press conference microphone catches Leo declaring his feelings for her, things get really personal, really fast…
