Author Catherine Cowles continues to both break me and lift me up with the books in her Tattered & Torn series. SHATTERED SEA, the fourth book in the series, is a testament to Catherine’s ability to craft a story that evokes emotion that is both painful and beautiful.

Having met Laiken in the earlier books of the series, paired with the fact that every single story has blown me away, I was certain that I would love SHATTERED SEA, and I was not wrong. Both Laiken and Boden have great back stories, ones that have made them the strong people that they are because of the pain that they’ve suffered. They see something in each other, that something that draws them together despite any reservations that they may have.

Each book in the Tattered & Torn series makes me fall more in love with Catherine’s writing, with her skills as a storyteller, and with a place and its people. I absolutely cannot wait for FRACTURED SKY, Shiloh’s and Ramsey’s story, because the build to see Shiloh get her HEA has been tremendous. I can honestly say that this is one of my top series ever, and wish that every single fan of angsty suspenseful romance would snap these books up and binge them. They are amazing, and you will love them. ❤️

I moved from the back room into the gallery, leaving Gizmo on his bed, happily chewing on a bully stick. My steps faltered as I took in the man in front of my photograph, his back to me. He wore dark jeans that hugged his hips, a flannel shirt, and a baseball cap. It was too cold for only a flannel shirt, yet I couldn’t find it in me to be sad that it was what he wore.

The shirt ghosted over defined muscles and showed just how broad his shoulders were. What was it about good shoulders? I was woman enough to admit they were my weakness.

But it was the energy that flowed off him that had me stepping forward. He paid rapt attention to the photograph in front of him. I couldn’t help the question that tumbled out of my mouth. “What do you think?”

The man didn’t turn around. “It’s one of the most visceral pieces of art I’ve ever seen.”

Visceral. This man didn’t know he’d just paid me one of the highest compliments possible. “Most people think it’s depressing.” I’d seen more than one patron scrunch up their nose at it and turn away in favor of a pretty watercolor landscape.

“It’s real. A piece of the human experience. Isn’t that what art should be?”

My heart hammered in my chest. “I think so. That and to make us feel seen. Less alone in one way or another.” That was what it had done for me time and time again. It was why I had been brave enough to shoot this self-portrait. Because I hoped to give that gift to someone else.

“Less alone,” he muttered as he stared at the image. After a few beats, he turned around.

I sucked in a sharp breath as I took in his angled features that I’d seen gracing the covers of magazines at the grocery store checkout so many times. But those photos didn’t come anywhere close to doing his eyes justice. The swirling green and gold could hold a person in a trance. “Oh, crap.”

Seriously, I am falling more in love with Quincy, MT, and the Eden family with every single book in this series, and that is saying something, because INDIGO RIDGE was easily one of my favorite romances of 2021. Devney’s writing is flawless, and her talent for hooking me right from the get-go and keeping me completely immersed never fails.

GARNET FLATS is the perfect blend of a second-chance love story and that dash of suspense that makes it the perfect read for me. I was just as ready as Talia Eden to kick Foster Madden’s butt right back to Vegas and totally rooting for the two of them to work things out, because, oh, my gosh, Foster making amends is pretty freaking amazing. And when that thing happened, the ‘thing’ that Devney always does, that hook that totally threw me for a loop, well, I was a goner.

These books are quickly earning their places in my most favorite reads, and I truly can’t recommend them highly enough. If you haven’t started, now is the time, because I’m telling you right now, you will love them. ❤️
