Michel’s Review

What a great beginning to the new paranormal / biker series by Rebecca Zanetti.  Wild Ride is the perfect title for this cutting edge, dark, gritty, and sexy series.

Wicked Ride has the perfect  mix of darkness and suspense.  This book brilliantly brings two worlds together to fight an  evil that is threatening both worlds.

Kellach Dunne is an enforcer for his coven.  He’s undercover when he crosses paths with the human cop, Alexandra Monealle.  She’s a tough, no nonsense cop that believes in her job.  Crossing paths with an ancient biker is not what she bargained for.

Together these two will battle an evil that could blow the cover of the otherworld.

Secrets will be exposed, careers will be ruined, and cases will be blown to hell. In the midst of it all Alexandra and Kellach will find something that they never found in their own worlds.  They will find something that makes fighting for both worlds worth it.  They will find love in the midst of darkness and chaos.

Wild Ride is a high octane thriller that will have your heart racing.

I highly recommend Wild Ride by Rebecca Zanetti.  It won’t disappoint… it is the best of both worlds.

Michel’s Review

Congratulations to Lauren Dane on her new dynamic Ink & Chrome series. The first book, Opening Up, is a sensational introduction to this series.

PJ comes from automotive royalty.  Her family’s tire corporation has been one of the reigning companies in the automotive industry.  PJ and her siblings are expected to take over the throne.  The only problem is that PJ isn’t conforming into the expected mold for a leading executive in the company.  Between her lack of a college degree to her artistic visions most of her family doesn’t see her as a promising part of the corporation.  PJ has visions of expanding and updating the company’s presence in other avenues of the industry.

When she meets Asa Barrons from Twisted Steel she begins to bring her visions to life.  Not only is she getting the chance to bring her visions to life, she has met a man that makes her stand up and take notice.

Asa Barrons comes from the complete opposite of PJ’s background.  His dedication to his family is to be admired.  His work at Twisted Steel is phenomenal.  He’s the perfect kind of guy for PJ.  He’s strong, inked, talented, and smart.

PJ and Asa develop a relationship that goes beyond friendship.  It is a relationship based upon respect, admiration, and pure sexual chemistry.

Together they are a new force to be reckoned with in and out of the showroom.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book.  I love that Lauren Dane created verbal interaction between the characters rather than focusing on their sexual chemistry, even though that was smoking hot.  The dialogue was fantastic and the story flowed beautifully.

I am looking forward to the next book in the Ink & Chrome series.

“Can’t sleep?” Shane asked.

“No,” Fallon murmured. “It’s too quiet.”

He nodded, rising to his feet from the couch. The dog tags around his neck clacked against one another, drawing her attention to the wide, naked expanse of his chest. How she managed to sound calm and unaffected by the sight of all that taut skin should be filed under minor miracles. Especially since inside her panties she popped, sizzled, and lit up like a damn Fourth of July fireworks show.

“Here.” He scooped up the television remote from the fee table and tossed it to her. “Take the couch.” He bent, picked up his pants, and turned to step into them. “I’ll sleep on the—”

“Jesus Christ.” She caught the remote on autopilot, the sheet dropping from her numb fingers. Horror poured through her in a thick, choking deluge. Before her mind could catch up with her body, she was closing the distance between them. Her hands were reaching for him, gripping his hips above the low-hanging black band of his boxers and unbuckled, sagging pants.

Her eyes were drinking in the terrible scars marring his back.

Shane went unnaturally still, and the tensing of his muscles telegraphed his intention to jerk away. But she tightened her hold, ignored the fact that she’d violated his unspoken edict regarding her touching him.

“Please,” she whispered, unable to prevent the pain and fear from seeping through. Maybe he detected it, detected the desperate need. Because, though he didn’t relax, instead remaining as rigid as a statue, he didn’t move away from her.

Didn’t leave her.

Emitting a sound caught somewhere between a whimper and a sigh, she gently—reverently—traced the gouged-out flesh just below his waist, the hard, puckered skin surrounding the old wound. Pressing her forehead to his shoulder blade, she smoothed fingertips over the long, ridged scar aligning the bottom of his spine. Stroked the raised, shiny mark the size and shape of a nickel on the back of his upper arm.

Grief for his suffering, panic at the realization of just how close she’d come to losing him pummeled the breath from her chest, leaving a hollow, agonizing ache behind. Of course she’d known he’d been hurt; only a serious injury could’ve kept Shane from returning to the Army he loved.

But four years ago when she’d received that call from Addy about Shane being shipped home, her friend had told her he’d been shot. That’s it. She hadn’t detailed the gravity the scars covering his body conveyed. They’d kept her in the dark. Purposefully.

“You wouldn’t let me come to the hospital,” she said.

“No,” he stated, voice flat.

“Why?” she demanded softly. He didn’t reply, only fisted his fingers at his sides. “I would’ve come. If you’d let me, I would’ve,” she murmured, then bent and brushed her lips over the scar on his waist.

Jolting as if struck by a bolt of lightning, he whipped around, a fierce frown darkening his face. “What the hell are you doing?

naima simoneI was born the daughter of a sharecropper… Okay, maybe not. But I am the daughter of a pastor from whom I inherited my love of romance. The man can preach a mean Song of Solomon! (There’s that plug, Daddy! You can pay me later!)

Although my first book starred a cucumber named Fred, my first romance came several years later in the seventh grade, when I wrote myself as a heroine opposite Ralph Tresvant from New Edition. Through the power of my pen and imagination, Ralph took one look across a crowded stadium, met my dark, mysterious gaze, fell passionately in love, and serenaded me in front of millions of fans. Out of all the girls in the world, he chose me! And of course, we lived happily ever after–once we had the inevitable fight, aka black moment, and made up with a passionate declaration of love and fidelity. This same story reincarnated itself many times over the years: with Donnie Wahlberg from New Kids on the Block, Brad Pitt, Denzel Washington, and as recently as last night, Vin Diesel.

Though the characters have changed, my love of love has endured. Shaping the lives of unique men and women who experience the first hungry bites of lust, the dizzying heights of passion, and the tender, healing heat of love–nothing compares to it. Synopsis

From the New York Times bestselling author of Collide and Pulse comes a gritty new novel about a shattered young woman who unexpectedly falls for two best friends.

They were a storm I never saw coming, an unforeseen heartbreak on the edge of a dangerous cliff.

Amber Moretti’s life changes in the span of minutes. An orphaned outsider, she is desperate to start fresh the moment she walks onto campus. In the time it takes to cross the university’s dining hall, she meets two men who bring color, air, and light to her darkened world.

They became my addiction, each a needle to my next hit, my high.

Brock Cunningham’s appeal is dizzying, a potent force Amber can’t deny. A green-eyed smooth talker, he instantly attracts Amber. It doesn’t take long for him to consume her every thought, her every breath.

Ryder Ashcroft, a blue-eyed, tattooed, and pierced bad boy, turns Amber off immediately—that is, until he kisses her, stealing a piece of her heart, her soul.

They were as opposite as fire and ice, yet I ached for them equally.

Never knowing she could be broken down in so many unexpectedly beautiful yet petrifying ways, Amber finds herself falling for both men.

Immoral? Maybe. I say undeniable. Uncontained.

But one devastating event changes everything, shattering each of their lives…and Amber isn’t sure she can recover from it.

“What are you, Casey?” Ryder asks over his shoulder as he scrubs his hands with antibacterial soap.

“Your little cancer warrior,” she answers with a small smile.

“That’s right.” He dries his hands and turns, a proud grin cracking his mouth. “The bravest one ever.”

I grab Casey’s hand and hold it tight, knowing nothing I’ve ever seen, heard, or felt compares to what she’s facing. This child’s living with a fear I can’t comprehend. One that’d slay all of my fears put together.

“Ready?” Ryder asks, his tone soft and caring, everything it should be.

Casey nods, clenching my hand. My heart swells, anxiety building thick in my throat as Ryder slips on a pair of medical gloves and cleans the area around her port with Betadine swabs.

Casey looks at me, the cool blue of her eyes misting over. “Are you scared of needles?”

“No,” I say, running my free hand along the back of her neck. “Are you?”

“I used to be.” She sighs, a single tear slipping down her face. “But not so much anymore.”

It takes everything in me not to drag her little body off the table and run out of the apartment with her. I wipe the tear from her cheek, my need to hide her away, sheltering her from the sinister storm she’s in the middle of, growing with each unsteady breath.

“A little cold,” Ryder warns before spraying the anesthetic on her skin.

“Hurry, Ry,” Casey pleads, her voice weak yet panicked. “It doesn’t last that long.”

“I have to make sure you’re numb, Case.” Ryder ducks his head and stares into her eyes, trying to keep her focused on the silly faces he’s making.

His tactic works.

Casey’s tiny giggles bounce around the kitchen, their musical notes blocking out the sound of Ryder popping the cap off a weird-looking needle. With a small, clear tube like a tail—and plastic wings stretched out on either side—it reminds me of a dragonfly. Ryder presses his gloved finger against Casey’s port a few times, his attention honed in on her face as he says, “Knock, knock.”

“Who’s there?” Casey smiles at me, completely unaware that Ryder’s pricked her skin with the needle.

“Aardvark.” Ryder pushes the medicine through the syringe, his attention cutting between Casey’s face and the needle.

“Aardvark who?” she manages, a thin sheen of sweat dotting her upper lip.

“Aardvark a hundred miles for one of your pretty smiles.” Ryder pulls the needle from her chest, and before she can blink, he rests his lips against her forehead, kissing away her remaining fear.

Close to immobile, my heart tugs, the magnitude of what this man means to this little girl—what they mean to each other—scraping tears up my dry throat. I swallow the sound before it can leave me, warmth pinching my stomach into a beautiful knot as I observe them.

“It’s over?” Casey asks, uncertainty flashing in her eyes.

“Yeah, kiddo. It’s over,” Ryder answers, his voice heavy with relief as he applies a small piece of gauze over her port. “You’re all set, warrior. Go get cleaned up, and we’ll get ready to leave.”

With Ryder’s aid, Casey slides off the table and heads for the bathroom, the bounce in her step less tangible as she slips around the corner. Quiet reigns, the events from the last few minutes whispering across my mind as Ryder looks at me with exhausted eyes. Stress lines cut across his forehead, wariness drowning his beautiful features. Overcome, I watch him swipe a tired hand over his face and turn, resting his palms against the counter. As though having no control over my body—a magnet pulling in my gut—I stand and move toward him, each tentative step I take carried out with shallow, quick breaths. I come up behind him, lift a shaky hand and tap his shoulder, my pulse lurching as he turns and meets my gaze. Our connection strikes, a bolt of emotions paralyzing us as we stare at each other.

I touch my fingers to his stubbled cheek, my conscience crying out that my actions are wrong, so very wrong, but my heart mutes the warning as I move my palm to the back of his neck.

His muscles go taut, restraint lighting the fiery blue of his eyes. “Amber, don’t.” The words come out not as a rough warning but a soft plea. “Don’t do this.”

“I have to,” I whisper, trembling. “You’re . . . amazing, Ryder. What you did for her, everything you do for her . . . I just . . .” I drop my eyes to his chest, my heart galloping as I register his hands gripping my waist. Their heat sears through me, a thrill jumping from cell to cell. “You’re tender, cocky, gentle, and an asshole all at the same time. You’re kind, giving, nurturing. You’re . . . everything.”

My lips find his, testing, teasing, barely touching. Our breathing comes faster, harder as I pull him down, our foreheads pressed together as we stare into each other’s eyes. “Please . . . I just . . . Just once more. That’s all I need.”

I think . . . hope.

With hunger demolishing all traces of restraint from his gaze, Ryder buries his hands in my wavy curls and looks at me a beat before capturing my lips in a slow, passionate kiss. I sigh into his mouth, my senses drowning in his familiar flavor as I fall in step with his calculated strokes. On a deep groan, he draws me closer, his tongue dipping in and out, out and in. Still, nothing about his touch is rough, yet everything in it screams that he needs me in this moment.

In this wicked space and time of his life.

Every lick and nip is a soft caress, like he’s trying to burn the sensation of my lips into his memory. My pulse hammers in staccato mode as I melt the full weight of my body into his. With my blood swimming through my veins, and sinking further into everything that is Ryder, I feel the emptiness of his soul slice through me. A dull ache pinches my heart, spreading its misery through my muscles as he cups my cheeks and deepens the kiss with a gentleness I never knew he possessed. My breath catches, wiped from my lungs as he glides his lips along my jaw, down the base of my throat. The cadence of his exotic growl slips through my ears, dizzying my head in the sweetest way.

“Christ, I fucking want you so bad,” Ryder whispers hoarsely. He drags his lips back to mine, his kiss urgent, greedy. However, he brings it down a notch, his movements revisiting slow, sensual, worshipping this moment for everything it is. Worshipping me for all I am. “So badly, peach. More than I’ve ever wanted anything or anyone. You drive me crazy. Your smell, skin, eyes.” He sucks my lip between his teeth, a groan punching from his chest as he runs his fingertips along my bare arms.

Goose bumps pop, deliciously pricking my skin as I tighten my grip in his hair.

“Your little giggles, pouts, personality. Every single fucked-up scar you own in and out. All of it. All of you.” He licks into my mouth, his tongue exploring mine with precision as his hands find my nape, their hold possessive. “Fuck. It should’ve been me. Not him. Me.”

And just like that, our moral compasses spring due north, Brock the center of its attention—our attention. We slowly break the kiss, our breathing choppy from the loss.

Michel’s Review

Wow… what a great book for Summer 2015.  Amber To Ashes by Gail McHugh is the first book in the Torn Heart Series.  This book has all the right ingredients to make your reading experience wickedly scorching.  This book is not your ordinary love triangle.  It is more of a dark erotic thriller.  When you reach the end of this book you will be left with chills.  The suspense will leave you hanging on the edge of your seat.  You will begin to formulate many different scenarios and theories on what is going to happen next and how the story is going to finally play out.

Gail McHugh crafted a very complex story.  The characters are not what they seem to be.  At the beginning of the story you get very distinct impressions on both Brock and Ryder’s personalities.  As the story unfolds the reader begins to see subtle changes and by the end of the book both guys are completely different from the early impressions.  Neither one is really good or really bad.  The one thing they both have in common is their feelings for Amber.  Both are at the point that they will do anything to make her completely theirs.  The choice may be taken out of all of their hands.  Brock and Ryder’s illegal activities may cost them all their lives.

Amber is a very damaged girl.  Her childhood experiences have left her scarred and emotionally damaged.  She has never had a successful relationship whether it be romantic or platonic.  She has kept herself emotionally closed off.  Now that she has met both Brock and Ryder, she is wanting more out of life.  The problem is that she doesn’t know what or who she wants.

Like I said this love triangle is unusual.  It does not have the predictable angst like readers have experienced in other New Adult books.  The interactions between the these three characters has an unusual element that keeps the readers bouncing back and forth.

The dark elements in this story come from outside the love triangle relationship.  Brock and Ryder have been living a duel life that is catching up to them.  This duel life is deadly. This element is what really fuels this book more so than the love triangle.

Both Brock and Ryder wanted Amber to be completely happy.  I think one wanted to be the one to fix her.  I got the impression that the other one wanted Amber to fix herself by giving her love and support.

It’s hard to say whether I am team Brock or team Ryder.  Both guys were easy to love.  They were both good and bad.  They both had redeeming qualities.  I wouldn’t want to be in Amber’s shoes.

I would love to give this book 5 Stars but there were a few things that kept me from giving that rating.

*** Brock’s motivations were never very clear.  We were told why but the explanation was so brief that it really didn’t convince me.

***Brock and Ryder were supposedly best friends since childhood.  I never felt that deep bond that they supposedly had.  The book lacked interaction between Brock and Ryder that would convince the reader of this friendship.  There were very few interactions with the two of them together.  The friendship was more of a suggestion from each character when dealing with Amber.

*** Amber’s problems with Hailey kind of popped out of the blue.  When I reached the scene where Amber and Hailey have a confrontation in Starbuck’s I was totally confused.  I went back several chapters to see if I missed something, which I did not.

*** Lastly, I found it hard to connect with Amber’s character completely.  We only got to see one facet of Amber’s true personality.  We only saw what damaged her and left her emotionally scarred.  Every once in a while we would get a glimpse of something else like her love for writing.  Most of the time her personality came off as an insecure girl rather than a young woman that was strong enough to survive the crap hand life dealt her.

Overall Amber To Ashes was a fantastic book and I cannot wait for the sequel!

Tracey’s Review

Jackson Hawke is a man bent on revenge. It’s taken years, but he is ready to show the woman that he once loved the consequences of her betrayal. Following a wild night of passion with a mysterious stranger and the suspect death of her twin sister, Hannah North has spent the past six years hidden away from the world. When circumstances arise that force her to offer herself as an escort to an unknown benefactor, she has no idea that her two worlds are about to collide.

Since her arrival on the scene, Lili Valente has quickly proven herself as one of the fresh voices in erotic fiction. Über-alpha men, fast-paced and intriguing plots, and, oh, yes, hotter than hot sex, make her books go-to reads for me. Dark Domination is the first in Lili’s new Bought By the Billionaire series, and it is on fire. Jackson Hawke is as alpha as they come, and, even hellbent on retribution, he’s one of the sexiest leading men I’ve read lately. And Hannah has been through a lot, but she’s willing to do what she has to to save her family, even if it means submitting to an unknown man, and moving far beyond her comfort zone. This book needs to come with a fan and an extra set of panties, because the sexy scenes are seriously molten. And, holy cliffhanger, Batman, Lili knows how to leave us cursing and ready to throw our e-readers. Waiting for Deep Domination (Book 2) will be no easy feat, but I’m all in. In the meantime, Dark Domination gets 5+ ‘hot, hot, did I say hot, give me a fan, because it’s HOT’ stars. Read it. You know you want to.

Hannah’s eyes flew open and her lips parted in a scream, but the enormous man straddling her pressed his hand tighter to her lips, muffling the sound.

She jerked her arms downward, ready to fight him off, only to discover that her wrists were tied to the headboard. Terror rushed through her and her pulse sped, setting her heart to slamming against her ribs as she tugged harder on her bonds. But the rope biting into her wrists assured her she wouldn’t be able to fight her way free.

She was bound tight, powerless to protect herself from whatever this man intended to do to her.

“Relax, princess. It’s just me.” The man leaned down, the water dripping from the end of his nose, landing on Hannah’s cheek, making her flinch. “I came in through the window. I thought I’d make that fantasy you were telling me about a reality.”

Hannah swallowed, her thundering heartbeat slowing a bit as she understood what was happening.

She wasn’t being attacked by an intruder. This man must be Harley’s guy of the moment, and he clearly thought he was straddling her sister. Once she cleared up the misunderstanding, he’d untie her and she could show him to the door. They’d both be embarrassed, no doubt, but she wasn’t about to be raped or murdered.

The realization made her whip-tight muscles sag with relief, an action she realized too late that the man took as an invitation to continue living out Harley’s bondage fantasy.

“I’ve been dying to touch you all day,” he said, his dry palm moving from her mouth to her breast, teasing her nipple through her thin tee shirt, drawing a gasp from her throat.

She expected his touch to feel foreign and unwelcome, but his fingers were gentle, teasing her with a sweetness that made her arch into his warm hand. Electricity shot from her breast to coil between her legs, the sensation intensified by the feel of the rope digging into her wrists as her biceps tightened reflexively in response to the stranger’s confident touch.

“God, the sounds you make drive me crazy,” the man said, pinching her nipple tight enough to make her gasp again.

“No, please, I’m not—” Hannah’s words ended in a moan as he pushed her shirt up and bent lower, tugging her nipple into the warm, wet heat of his mouth. His tongue flicked and teased, flooding her body with pleasure and longing so intense she was panting by the time he transferred his mouth to her other breast, sucking and nibbling at the aroused skin as his big hand slipped down the front of her panties, finding where she was already wet.

Wet, from her sister’s boyfriend’s mouth on her breasts. And now his fingers were sliding into where she ached, making her shudder.

If she didn’t stop this soon, it would be too late. There would be no avoiding tragedy, there would be only shame and the nightmare of confessing to her sister and this innocent man that she’d done something unforgivable.

“Stop, I’m not Harley.” She tensed her thighs only to relax them a second later when she realized her locked muscles were trapping his fingers inside her embarrassingly slick sex.

“No, you’re not,” he said, driving his fingers in and out of her as he trapped her nipple between his teeth and bit down, making her cry out in pain before he soothed away the hurt with his tongue.

“You’re my little slut,” he continued in his deep, sexy rumble of a voice, his fingers still busy between her legs, making the tension coiling low in her body fist even tighter. “And I’m going to fuck you until you scream.”

Tina’s Review

Judging a Book by it’s Cover —
Nice colors. But I’m not a big fan. Both models on the cover poorly depict the characters as described in the book. The male model looks older and “softer”, at the same time the pose makes him look like he’s one of those grabby PitA guys who think they’re cute but they’re not. Sadie also looks older and way more “buttoned up” than described. The model’s got that look like “Oh yeah? I don’t think so buddy”. It seems more playful and cheeky, but you really do not sense any romantic connection from the cover.
Synopsis sounds okay, not like something I’d pick up on my own though. I’m not a huge fan of baseball and it sounds a little too redneck as well. But, as a favor to a friend, I’ve agreed to read it. I have liked the author’s firemen series, so I’m hoping the writing style will transfer over to this new series as well.
Looking Deeper —
Caleb is a great brother. But, the way he approaches Sadie? I’m surprised the guy hasn’t been charged with sexual assault. He’s always pawing at her, and more! And, maybe it’s some sort of hole-in-the-wall small-town mentality, but if Sadie’s so dang shook up over what Ham did to her, without looking into the violation of privacy laws and reporting the photos and video to the proper channels, how did she expect to ever become a successful lawyer? I get the familial tie in the law enforcement thing, but once it hit the web, it became Federal and she would not have had to deal with Ham’s podunk father. Their parents were a damn mess, both of them. The cast of secondary characters were enjoyable, but are currently little more than filler… only one or two actually contributed to the plot. The whole slug cause seemed like an unusual mockery. The conflicts were rather plentiful and, with better communication, could have been resolved much more smoothly and efficiently. The plot, as a whole, was good. There was some predictability, but not enough to be off-putting. The conclusion was solid, with a completed HEA and hints of others to come.
I found it difficult to connect to the characters. Caleb and Sadie seemed to have some trouble connecting as well… almost like an engine with one cylinder misfiring. The dialogue was still classic Jennifer Bernard, however. Smart, sassy and fun. Maybe it’s because this is the series’ debut and a whole new world needs building, but I’m not really a fan of the small-town busybody mentality in Kilby and hope like hell that future books in the series will focus less on the narrow-minded, nosy inhabitants. Fans of Jennifer Bernard will also note that this book is quite a bit steamier than her Bachelor Firemen books ever were. I have a pet peeve about “boner” being used in adult plots, my opinion is that it’s a term used by children, teens, and up into college. It is suitable for Young Adult and New Adult, but I don’t feel it is a mature word for mature adults. Unfortunately, the terminology had made an appearance a few times throughout the book. I felt as though maybe Jennifer’s alter-ego had a more predominant hand in writing this book, expecially the sexy scenes.

Michel’s Review

Baseball and romance… the perfect way to welcome in the summer season.  Jennifer Bernard has given the readers some new Boys of Summer to fall in love with.  The great thing about a baseball romance is that at the end of the book the readers know that there is more coming.  After all a baseball team consists of nine players.

All of Me is the first book in the new series Love Between The Bases by Jennifer Bernard.  It is a good mix of romance, angst, humor, small town quirkiness, and baseball.  One bad boy baseball player and one good girl with a bad reputation is the perfect blend.  Both have made mistakes that they need to right.  Both need second chances.  Both need each other whether they know it or not.  The chemistry between Caleb and Sadie is sizzling hot and could melt a popsicle in a flash.

All of Me was a very good book to start the summer.

Michel’s Review

One More Shot is the debut novel by Victoria Denault.  This New Adult book has everything that fans of this genre look for in a book.  The overall theme has so many things that readers love in romance.  There is the friends to lovers theme.  The second chance romance theme.  The sports romance theme.  And finally the small town romance theme.

Victoria Denault did an excellent job creating the atmosphere for this book.  The reader was quickly drawn into the small world of Silver Bay, Maine.  A world where mostly everything revolves around hockey.  The younger generation wants to escape the small town life any way that they can.  For Jordan Garrison and his brothers, hockey is their ticket out.  For the Jessie Caplan and her sisters, education is the only way out.

Jessie and Jordy have been best friends since the third grade.  Their families are close.  Both have had crushes on each other since they hit puberty.  One high school party and a cheating boyfriend lead to opportunity that neither Jessie or Jordy expected.  It leads to them finally professing their love for one another.  It leads to the loss of Jessie’s virginity. This should be the most wonderful thing in their lives and it could be, but this new found love has very bad timing.  Both Jessie and Jordy are at the point in their lives where they have to make choices about their future.  Jessie has applied to various colleges for a physical therapy degree.  She is hoping to get a full scholarship.  Jordan is going into the NHL draft.  He is hoping to be drafted by a good team.  He wants Jessie to go with him once he finds out what team he will be playing for.

Miscommunications, interferring manipulative ex girlfriends, and tons of insecurities will rip these two apart before they can really develop a strong intimate relationship.  It will cause their relationship to go from a loving relationship to hateful enemies.  It will change their families relationships.  It will define how they both live in the future.  Six years later they finally have to face the music to their destructive demise.

Jessie and Jordan will have to face each other once again and put the past to rest.  The funeral for Jessie’s grandmother in Silver Bay, Maine will set the next stage of their relationship in motion.  They have both grown up.  They are both different yet deep down still the same.  They both still love each other with all their hearts.  Can they get past the hurts and mistrust to build the future they were meant to have together.

I really enjoyed One More Shot by Victoria Denault.  At times I felt that Jessie and Jordy behaved more like immature high school kids but in the end it made sense.  That was how their relationship stalled and once they let go of that they were able to act their age.  I loved the secondary characters and look forward to the next book in the series.

Add One More Shot to your summer reading list.  It will not disappoint.

Michel’s Review

Shannon Stacey has a new series out that blends the magic of small town romance she is well  known for writing.  In her new series Boys of Fall, she is featuring guys that played for the high school champion team fourteen years prior.  They were legends in their home town.  Like most small town youth, these guys moved on to bigger and better things after high school.  They moved as far away as they could.  Fourteen years later they are brought back home to help out their coach raise money so that the high school can keep their football team.

Chase Sanders was the running back for the champion Stuart Mills High School team.  He is now in the construction business in New Jersey.  His life is falling apart.  His girlfriend has cheated on him and dumped him.  His business partner has ran off with all his company’s money.  He is losing jobs and his good reputation.  He broke and broken.

One phone call gives him a reprieve from the disaster his life has become.  He is summoned back to Stuart Mills to help raise money for the high school football team.  His old coach was his mentor and gave him more in life than his family did.  He would do anything to help him.

When he gets to Stuart Mills his life will change drastically.  He forgot how small town life was.  People were invested in one another for all the right reasons.  Sure they may know each others business but it is still a far cry from city life.

Chase will once again get acquainted with his coaches daughter Kelly.  Kelly has become a strong beautiful woman with a sense of integrity, compassion, and strength.  He is attracted to her.  He can only let the attraction go as far as a vacation affair.  He has nothing to offer Kelly with his life being in shambles.

After reconnecting with his old football buddies, the town members, the high school ball players, his coach’s family, and Kelly; Chase will begin to see things in a different light.  Kelly may be the new beginning he needs.  Stuart Mills may be the place he can once again call home.

I enjoyed the first book in the Boys of Fall series.  All of the characters and town members came to life.  Shannon Stacey weaves magic in small town romance.  I look forward to the next books in this series.

Michel’s Review

What’s wrong with a little friendly competition in the work place?  Usually nothing unless the two competitors are vying for the same partnership.  When the stakes get higher, the two combatants will be fighting over landing the same client.  They will battle it out in the workplace.  They will take the competition to the next level with red hot monkey sex.  Each competitor will do anything to get the other to concede.  Let the battles begin.

Cassidy Whalen and Shaw Michaels are vying for the same partnership in the sports agency they both work for.  They literally hate each other.  In order to get the partnership one of them will have to land star quarterback “Rocket Man” Rockford to their client roster. Their competition becomes a brutal battle of witt, wills, and orgasms.  Although these two absolutely abhor one another, their sexual chemistry could compare to a volcanic eruption. A lot of hate sex and monkey business will send both into a tizzy.

The battle is on. The sheets are burning.  Cassidy and Shaw may end up destroying each other.  The only people finding bliss are their co workers. This book ends on a cliffhanger and I am not sure I want to continue with this series.

Playing Dirty had very little romance. Over 75 % of this book was hate sex scenes.  Both the characters were not very likable at all.  I felt the bad tension between them carried out too long. I just did not feel like there was any substance to the story.  It was a book of screwing each other into submission without regard.

Playing Dirty was not my kind of book.  I am sure there are other readers that will find this kind of push and pull entertaining.

Michel’s Review

Overruled by Emma Chase is the first book in the Legal Briefs series.  Once again Emma Chase has delivered a fun ,sexy romance that will keep the readers glued to the pages.  The quirky characters, the southern charm, and fumbled romantic expectations are guaranteed to keep readers laughing out loud.

Stanton Shaw is a successful upcoming defense attorney.  He is working at one of Washington D.C. s most prestigious law firms.  He’s on fast track to making partner.  His life is quite different from his simple southern roots in Sunshine, Mississippi.

Stanton couldn’t wait to get out of Sunshine.  Although he was the star football player and offered a full ride at Ole Miss, he chose a different route.  He accepted a full scholarship to Columbia in New York.  But there is a hiccup in his plans.  His cheerleader girlfriend , Jenny is pregnant.  He is about to become a father before he graduates from high school.

Both Jenny and Stanton realize that Stanton needs to go to Columbia for their future.  She is going to stay home in Sunshine and attend nursing school while he gets his degree in pre law.

What starts out as a temporary separation turns into more of a permanent one.  Ten years later, one law degree later, and a different city has put Stanton Shaw on a different path in life.  He is still planning on returning to Jenny to spend the rest of his life, just not at this time.  He still has to make partner.  He still has things to accomplish before he can pursue his life with Jenny.  When he gets a wedding invitation everything changes.  He has been invited to Jenny’s wedding in Sunshine, MS.  It looks like he is going to lose his lifetime love.  Stanton is finally going home and claiming his woman.

Stanton and Jenny had an open relationship.  When he was home in Sunshine she was exclusively his.  While he was away they were both free to date.  Stanton has become involved in a friends with benefits relationship with his co council, Sophia Santos.  Sophia is beautiful, brilliant, and the very definition of red hot sexy.  She is his confidant and helps keep him focused.  He is going to need Sophia with him to help win Jenny back.  She will keep him on track, keep him from going off the deep end, and keep him focused on the prize.  She has to go with him to Sunshine.

Once Stanton and Sophia hit the Sunshine city limits ( or should I say the one red light in town) the adventure begins.  From the gun toting Nana on the front porch aiming at Stanton’s balls to the new age free love older brother that seems to frequently lose his clothes, Sunshine is at it’s finest.  Everyone is ready for a wedding.  Who will be the groom?  A tractor race may decide the outcome.

Meanwhile Sophia is learning that she may fit into the Sunshine community.  She also realizes that she wants to fit into Stanton Shaw’s heart.  How can she help him land the bride when she wants to capture his heart?  A tractor race won’t do the trick.  It’s going to take a tornado to make Stanton sit up and take notice.

You can take Stanton Shaw out of Sunshine, MS. but you can’t take Sunshine out of Stanton Shaw.  He may be able to charm the jurors but can he use his southern charm to win the case of a lifetime? Can he win the woman he was meant to love for the rest of his life?

Stanton Shaw has been Overruled.

Emma Chase delivered another fantastic book.  I cannot wait to read the next two books in the Legal Briefs series.

A knight in tarnished armor is still a knight.

When you’re a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be, and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I, Jake Becker, have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating—and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.

Complications don’t work for me—I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will get you off. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming—and I don’t pretend to be.

Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I’m going to Mommy & Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room, and am knee deep in a damn compost pit.

Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, and defend her…and the kids.

And that—that, I know how to do.

When Brent Mason looks at Kennedy Randolph, he doesn’t see the awkward, sweet girl who grew up next door. He sees a self-assured, stunning woman…who wants to crush the most intimate—and prized—parts of his anatomy beneath the heels of her Louboutins.

When Kennedy looks at Brent, all she sees is the selfish, Abercrombie & Fitch catalogue–worthy teenager who humiliated her in high school in order to join the popular crowd. A crowd that made those years a living hell for her.

But she’s not a lovesick social outcast anymore—she’s a Washington, DC, prosecutor with a long winning streak. Brent is the opposing attorney in her next case, and Kennedy thinks it’s time to put him through a little hell of his own.

But things aren’t exactly working out the way she planned. Brent has his sights set on Kennedy, and every fiery exchange only makes him want her more—and makes her wonder if he’s as passionate in the bedroom as he is in the courtroom. In the end, they may just find themselves in love…or in contempt of court.
