“Damn, wet floor. Like mopping is going to make it any better looking.”

Jax’s ears perked up at hearing a familiar voice. He lifted them both up so they were standing. The woman was brushing off her navy blue, hip-hugging skirt, so he couldn’t tell who it was, but when she looked up, Jax instantly knew why he recognized the woman’s voice.

“Brooke?”

Her eyes widened, and then recognition fell over her features.

“Jax. Wow, never thought I would ever cross paths with you again. How’s it going?”

“Alright, and yourself?”

As Brooke talked about her new clothing line and her little apartment in downtown Denver, Jax took her all in. Her hair was short now, just below chin length, and styled to frame her face. Mason is done with love. He’s had his heart broken, and he’s not about to go through THAT again, so he does what any self-respecting pro football star would do: he’s leaving a trail of conquests a mile long, while having the time of his life, or so he’d like to believe.

THREE AND OUT is the final book in the Love and Sports series by Meghan Quinn. And, while it is largely Mason’s and Piper’s book, it is really an ensemble story, like the others in the series. Jax and Brooke, Ryker and Hannah, Jesse and Ashlin are all featured as well, as Meghan brings the series full-circle and gives everyone the ending that they need. Even Lexi and Jake make an appearance, and it’s nice to see the crazy kids from the first book, still happily together several years down the line.

I enjoyed this book a lot. Meghan has written characters that are so nuts that you can’t help but love them, with all their quirks, insecurities, and issues. The dialogue made me laugh out loud, and I am just a little bit in love with every one of the obnoxious guys in this book. I feel like the writing, which was not bad, but more immature in the first book, has vastly improved, and is much more polished and readable. I would very much recommend this read, as much for the zany cast of characters as the storyline that rounds out the series in a very satisfying way.

But love isn’t enough for Lexi when she is trying to find her way after college. She slowly sinks into Jake’s shadow and finds herself clawing out of the Jake sized hole she buried herself in so she can find who she is, who she wants to be and what her future holds for her.

Fair Catch is a true love story that goes through the trials and tribulations of Jake and Lexi’s insecurities, jealousies, short comings and strong personalities. Love is one hell of a strong bond but sometimes, it’s not strong enough. Follow Jake and Lexi as they try to hold on to the love they share while they try to find themselves and find out what life is after graduation.

She’s also sure that she doesn’t want anything to do with Jake Taylor, quarterback of the Cal U football team, and jerk with a capital ‘J’. FAIR CATCH is the first book in the Love and Sports series by Meghan Quinn. Reading this book was like watching a tennis match. The interactions between Jake and Lexi were so back-and-forth that it was sometimes hard to keep up with the way that they kept changing their minds about their relationship. Luke has a well-earned reputation as a manwhore, having slept with practically then entire women’s athletics department at the university, so he’s got his work cut out for him to convince Lexi that he’s done with all of that, and ready to be a one-woman guy. And Lexi has all sorts of family drama, and has a hard time showing her real self to Jake, opting instead to throw in the towel with little convincing reason. This is New Adult, though, so I could forgive a lot of this, if not actually appreciate it. The supporting characters, especially Parker and Margo, made this a much more enjoyable read for me.

FAIR CATCH is the first book in a trilogy, and, since I like Meghan’s writing style, I will continue to read the series, and look forward to seeing the characters grow and mature in the subsequent installments.

The McCauly’s are back. In the third book of the McCauly Brothers Series, Ruining Mr. Perfect we get Cameron’s story. Cameron McCauly is the youngest of the McCauly clan and quite different from his older brothers. Being a successful investment advisor has led him to develop a taste for the finer things in life. He is not as rough and rugged as his brothers. He is more of a perfectionist. He has taken quite a bit of ribbing from his siblings because of his more refined nature. It has also created some tension with his father. This tension between them is hard to deal with in a close knit family like the McCaulys.

Vanessa Campbell is a hardcore, driven CPA with an attitude that can make grown men weep. She has issues that go beyond her need for order, control, and cleanliness. She’s beautiful and smart but comes across as being a downright bitch.

Vanessa and Cam have butted heads throughout this series. They are very similar in a lot of ways but also very different in others. They are antagonistic to one another and don’t see eye to eye. Both have the need to be right all the time. The one thing they have in common is their attraction to one another.

When these two get together and finally let go, it is smoking hot. Cam has the ability to get Vanessa to let go and loosen up. His playful but witty antics have a way of breaking through her ice princess persona. Between Cam’s dirty talking and her need for control in the bedroom, the sheets sizzle.

These two can be perfect together but first both will have to learn to compromise.

Meanwhile, outside of the steamy head butting relationship between Cam and Vanessa, there is another plot going on in the McCauly family. The parents are having some serious problems in their marriage. The build up of these tensions just adds to the ongoing saga of the McCauly family.

I absolutely loved this book. I had hesitations about Vanessa’s character because of the ice princess attitude. She is one of those characters that you love to hate. Marie Harte did a brilliant job with her character. Vanessa is who she is, but Marie showed us a softer and vulnerable side that most people don’t see on the outside. Cameron stole my heart. He may be quite different from his brothers, but he has the right amount of McCauly traits and the right amount of unique traits that will endear him to the readers.

The McCauly family and their contributions to this novel made the book even more endearing. This family has captured the reader’s hearts. I am looking forward to the next book in the McCauly Brothers series. What To Do With A Bad Boy is going to be explosive.

I am a huge fan of Marie Harte and the McCauly Brothers series. Ruining Mr. Perfect was fantastic and I highly recommend this book and series.

It was hard to explain the way he spoke to me; at times he was flirtatious and well… happy. Other times? It seemed like he was fighting another side of himself, one that was more reserved, uptight, controlled. And if you were to ask me which side scared me the most? I’d say both. Because both sides were dangerous to me — both pushed a person like me past the point of no return. His seriousness made me curious; his flirtation made me want more.

“Just dinner?” I asked. “Isn’t that against the rules?”

“Yeah, well…” He glanced down briefly before flashing a sensual smile, his eyes dilating. “…it seems to be an impulse I can’t really control around you.”

“Control’s overrated, you label-making fool.”

Suddenly, I realized how stupid it would be to go with him. I knew nothing about him, nothing at all!

He smiled, tilting his head toward me. “Why am I getting the sudden urge to pull out a list of character references?”

“Because I just scared myself,” I admitted out loud.

“You want my social security number?” He winked. “Credit score? First grade class photo? Oh, and by the way, in first grade I was nominated most likely to own a pet store… so, if you aren’t okay with that, we probably shouldn’t continue this.”

“This?”

“Dinner.”

“Because you liked pets?”

“I wanted to own a lizard farm.”

I covered my mouth with my hands and nodded solemnly. “All little boys have dreams.”

“A bully crushed mine when he told me lizard farms don’t exist.” He shook his head. “In second grade I was voted least likely to succeed, on account that I didn’t speak for the entire year.”

“Why’s that?” I took another step toward him.

He took another step in my direction and shrugged. “It took me a while to get over the lizards.”

“So you stopped speaking?”

“It was more of me trying to make the public aware of my outrage.”

“Ah, like lizard strike.”

“I made shirts.”

“Tell me, professor, is that when the label-making started?”

“No.” He nodded toward the door and started walking. I followed, genuinely interested in what he was going to say and hating that it was possible he was stringing me along only to go all cold-crazy-psycho on me again. “That was an entirely different situation.” He pulled the door open.

“What? No more stories?” I asked.

“Dinner.” He shrugged, his eyes a stormy gray. “I’ll tell you at dinner.”

“Bribery.”

“My trump card. Label-maker stories. You know, I do actually know how to romance a woman.”

“Well…” I cleared my throat and broke eye contact. “…since I’m your student, I’ll just take your word for it.”

“Right,” he said quickly then repeated, “Right, shall we?”

“Lead the way.” I forced a smile and tried to remember that this was dinner, nothing romantic, just my very sexy professor once again apologizing for being a jackass during class.

Shame is the third book in The Ruin series by Rachel Van Dyken. I have loved every book in this series. Lisa has been a prominent character throughout this series. From her dedicated friendship to “Taco Tuesday’s” the readers have come to love her character. There is an air of mystery concerning her past that the readers are finally going to see.

Lisa was not always the happy go lucky college girl she appears to be. She has a very dark past. A past she is ashamed of, with just cause.

Lisa was a model in her past life. She was wild, selfish, insecure, and easily influenced by others. Being raised in a town where looks and appearances are everything, her insecurities run deep.

Lisa had the wrong kind of friends and the wrong kind of boyfriend. Her actions towards others went past the point of bullying to downright cruelty. Together with her boyfriend, they destroyed young lives and humiliated unsuspecting people. To them it was all a game. But in reality it was total destruction, not only to their victims but to themselves. After a horrific incident, that resulted in death, Lisa no longer wants to be the girl she is. I finally turn to Dorian to find him naked and so close that my breasts press against the top of his abs. My lips part automatically, but he doesn’t kiss me. He never gives me what I want—just what I need.

“You want to explain that look earlier?” he deadpans looking down at me, his voice low and sinister.

“What look?” I slide my hands up onto his shoulders, yet he still doesn’t touch me.

“Between you and my brother. And don’t lie. I know when you lie. And it will just make it worse for you.”

Without looking him in the eye, I give him a carefree smile. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Suit yourself.”

He’s kissing me hungrily, angrily, painfully before I even know what’s happening. His greedy hands cup my breasts, so swollen for him, and pinch my nipples hard enough to leave a lingering sting. I yelp into his mouth and he nips my bottom lip with his teeth.

“Hurts, doesn’t it?” he rasps, pulling away just enough to utter the words. He doesn’t even give me a chance to answer before he’s kissing me again, smothering my little whimper and whines with his lips and tongue.

Still devouring my resistance, he parts my thighs and cups my sex possessively, as if he’s holding a rare jewel in the palm of his hand. Then, without warning or provocation, he sinks two fingers inside of me to the knuckle.

“What are you doing, Dorian?” I manage to gasp against his demanding lips.

I blink once…twice…before good sense returns. “Of what?”

He eases his fingers out slowly, those pale blue eyes lit with passion trained on me, before pushing them back in to the hilt. “Who owns this.”
