Synopsis

From the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Driven series.

ONE NIGHT. THAT’S ALL IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE.

All she wanted from Beckett Daniels was a sexy distraction to help her escape her pain for just a little while….There weren’t supposed to be any strings attached—so why can’t she shake the memory of that unforgettable night from her thoughts? Or the taste of his kiss from her lips?

No matter how hard Haddie tries to forget about him, Becks relentlessly tries to prove that she should start living for today. But she is determined to avoid romantic commitment, and she can always use her ex-boyfriend’s reappearance to help snuff out the slow burn within her that Becks has sparked….

Or will fate force her to realize that this kind of connection doesn’t come along very often and a chance at love is worth the risk?

“Yeah. That’s one way to put it. Is there something else you called for besides trying to stick your nose in where it doesn’t belong?”

I open my mouth and then shut it, unsure how calling him because I just needed to hear his voice has devolved so quickly into this. Into me scrambling for words I can’t find to fix shit that doesn’t need fixing.

Because I don’t want this. Don’t want him.

“Well then, if you want to actually talk instead of pull this ridiculous bullshit, I’m here for you…but Had…? Whatever this is here…this passive aggressive crap? I don’t do too well with that. We had our one night. You made it quite clear you didn’t want anything more than that so you don’t get to call me up and question what I might or might not be doing with anybody else. You want no strings? Then cut the ties…but frankly I don’t think you know what the fuck you want so until you figure your shit out, I think it’s best that we say good night before we make a bad situation even worse.”

“Wait!” Desperation rings in my voice in the single word. And I hate myself for sounding like this but I’m so lonely, so scared and just want the comfort I know he can bring me right now.

I wait for the sound of the dial tone to assault my ears. Wait for the incessant beep that reaffirms why I have barbed wire wrapped around my heart – painful but necessary. But there is nothing for a few moments until I hear the phone scrape against the stubble on his face.

And I wait…my throat burning with the tears I want to shed but am so sick of. The ones that no longer bring me comfort.

“I’m here, Haddie. I’m not going anywhere, okay?” The timbre of his voice carries his concern and sympathy to me through the line.

The incoherent sound I make is all I can offer in thank you to him for not hanging up on me. For not giving up on me.

Kelley’s Review

Wow!  K. Bromberg brings readers a scorching hot romance filled with love, loss, and healing.  Get your tissues ready because you will need them for this emotional ride.

Haddie is so lost after losing her sister to breast cancer.  Lexi was her other half.  They were inseparable as kids and when the opportunity to open their own business together presented itself it was too good to be true.  Lexi was diagnosed with a rare form of genetic breast cancer and she was taken from Haddie in the blink of an eye.  Haddie has been living in the darkness ever since and has been pushing everyone away….that is until Becks comes along.  He slowly and stubbornly creeps his way into Haddie’s heart.  Will Haddie be able to let her walls down long enough to let him in?  or when times get really tough will she shut him out?  Becks is a determined man but there is only so much a man can take.

This book had me turned inside out.  I could not put it down.  Kristy weaves an emotionally gripping story about a selfless woman who will do anything to keep those that she loves from being hurt.  This story resonates with me because my grandmother died of breast cancer.  She died because she tried to hide it from everyone and by the time it was found out it was too late.  I admire Kristy for writing such a strong character that is willing to go to drastic measures in order to survive.  I went through and entire box of tissues.  When we go through tough times in life we have so much more of a fighting chance if we are surrounded by people who love us.

I wish I may, I wish I might, have this wish I wish tonight…I wish I could have a love as strong as Haddie and Becks.

Tempt The Night

Trust No One Series – Book 5

By Dixie Lee Brown

d8082-add-to-goodreads-button3

Synopsis

Dixie Lee Brown concludes her thrilling Trust No One series with the fast-paced tale of a damaged hero and the sexy fugitive he can’t help falling for.

Samantha “Mac” McCallister barely believes her own tale of dirty cops and murder that landed her in the hands of the sexy Jim Brady. One minute she was enjoying a ride-along in her best friend’s cruiser, the next he’s dead and she’s wanted for his murder. Mac never expected to be hiding out from the law, but with Jim by her side, maybe she can survive long enough to clear her name. The question is, can she survive the way Jim makes her feel?

Former Navy Seal Jim Brady works best under pressure. At least he used to. Now, fighting flashbacks from his time in Iraq, he has given up everything he knows in order to protect the innocent … from himself. So working with a woman on the run from the law? Not in his plans for this lifetime. Still, something about the blue-eyed beauty tells him she’s not the source of the danger—she’s running from it. Deep down he knows he’ll protect her no matter what. But his heart? That’s another story.

Michel’s Review

Tempt The Night is the final book in the Trust No One series by Dixie Lee Brown. It can be read as a stand alone novel or in series order. This book will not disappoint. It is action packed, immersed in thrilling suspense, and has a red hot romance.

This book is well written with charismatic characters that encompass the traits readers love. Who doesn’t like an alpha man that has issues but still is able to draw upon his personal strengths ? The leading lady has strength, guts, and the right amount of softness. The pacing of this book kept the reader’s attention and never hit any bumps that made the story stall. I couldn’t put this book down. The story kept me captivated to the end.

Samantha ( Mac ) McCallister has witnessed a horrific murder committed by some Alaskan State Troopers. She is in fear for her life, accused of murder, and on the run. Jim Brady, a former Navy Seal, now working for Joe’s group of merceneries, stumbles upon Mac while doing surveillance for a case. Even though he doesn’t usually get involved in other people’s business, he can’t help but want to protect Mac. But can he protect her from himself and the mind games his PTSD plays?

As the story plays out there will be many twists and turns that keep the reader guessing to the end. Amidst the twists and turns Mac and Brady will find a smoldering hot attraction that cannot be denied.

Tempt The Night was thrilling. This is the kind of book I love to curl up with and lose myself.

Excerpt

Once we were on the road, Phoenix chose the correct music for our drive. I say correct because, according to him, one didn’t start the day listening to hip-hop or anything remotely fun. No. Mr. Rogers had me listening to classical music.

Classical.

Mozart, to be exact.

Not that I wasn’t a fan of the arts, but really? It just seemed so against what you would expect from him. He was the bad boy personified; like, if you put his name in the dictionary, right next to it would be “And mothers warned their daughters to stay away, but the heart wants what the heart wants, and that heart wants that body… bad.”

He was all lean muscle and tight abs.

And I could have sworn he had a dimple, but I’d never actually seen it. Phoenix’s dimple was like Bigfoot; I’d seen glimpses in pictures and via rumors, but I had never actually seen it for myself.

One day.

One day I’d catch it and take a mental picture or five. Maybe ten. Needless to say, I knew that if I had one of his smiles, it would be a magical thing.

His hands gripped the steering wheel so hard I had a brief moment of panic thinking he was actually going to rip the thing from the dash and have a breakdown. Sad part? I half-expected it. He wasn’t acting normal… well, he was always moody, but this morning he seemed downright suicidal.

“So…” I tried to zone out the instruments assaulting my sanity. “You went to Eagle Elite, right?”

He was quiet for a minute then gave a swift nod.

“Wow, don’t talk so fast. I almost didn’t get all that.”

And crickets. Again.

I cleared my throat. “You graduate?”

“Sort of.”

“How do you sort of graduate?”

“Did you bring lunch money?” He asked in a tight voice.

I gaped. “Did you just ask me if I brought lunch money?”

He shrugged.

“You’re driving me to school, forcing Mozart on my poor sensitive morning ears, and just asked me if I had money for milk.”

“I’m concerned about you eating. Sue me.”

“Pretty sure the Nicolasi boss can afford to spare me a few dollars for a sandwich and a can of pop.”

“No pop.”

“Who died and made you my grandpa? Seriously. I want to know so I can steal your gun and point it at them.”

“Nobody touches my gun.”

“Which one?” I smirked, hoping he’d find the humor in my sexual innuendo, but who was I kidding? It was Phoenix. He simply grunted, rolled his eyes, and kept driving.

In a moment of pure rebellion, I undid the first two buttons of my white, collared shirt.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” he asked, his voice calm, his eyes still on the road.

“Wow, you really are like a parent. You can see me even when you aren’t looking.”

“Button that shit to your chin before I pull this car over.”

“Put on Jay-Z, and we’ll talk.”

More cursing.

I undid another button.

“Son of a bitch, you’re annoying.”

“Is this our first lovers’ spat?”

“Were there drugs in your toast?” He finally glanced at me, his blue eyes chilling me to the bone. “Be serious. I don’t want to get called into the dean’s office because you’re high.”

“Do I look like I’m on drugs?”

“Is this a trick question?”

PHOENIXDELANGE

Michel’s Review

HOLY EVER LOVING CRAP!  Ember, the fifth book in the Eagle Elite series was INTENSE!

Ember is Phoenix De Lange’s book.  This man is a killer, a rapist, an abuser, a ghost, an enforcer, and a MONSTER.  He has betrayed the family.  He has betrayed himself.  A death sentence is too easy and too painless for Phoenix De Lange.  Redemption is impossible.  Or is it?

Phoenix De Lange never stood a chance in life or in the family.  He was a monster by birth.  His father made him a horrific human being.  His actions betrayed the family.  He almost killed Nixon Abandonato’s ( the head leader of the  families in the United States) woman, Trace Rooks (granddaughter of the Alfero family).  His betrayal brought the Luca Nicolosi, leader of the original Sicilian family to the States to decide the fate of all five families. This should of been his death sentence.  Luca Nicolosi issued a verdict worse than death.  He made Phoenix De Lange a ghost, an enforcer, a protector, and a leader.  He saw that there was redemption in Phoenix De Lange’s soul.  He saw the man that was buried deep beneath the hideous surface.  He saw a man with that craved absolution.  He gave him a second chance.

Phoenix De Lange may still be physically alive and breathing but in his heart he is a dead man.  He cannot forgive himself for his past.  He will put his life on the line every time a family member is threatened.  He will sacrifice himself before he allows any harm to come to his family and friends.  He does not expect his family to forgive or forget.  He continually punishes himself for his past.  He is a haunted man without any hope.  He does not understand why Luca chose him to lead the Nicolosi family.  He does not understand why Luca gave him the key to all of the family secrets.  He does not understand why Luca gave him Bee Campisi ( the Cappo’s, Tex Campsisi, little sister) to protect.  He hates that he wants her.  She is sunshine and rainbows.  She is everything good.  She is everything he does not deserve… and she loves him.  Can he stay away from her and keep her untainted from his ugliness?  Or will she be the final nail in his coffin?

There is a storm brewing within the family.  The Russian’s are on the horizon.  They are threatening the family.  The FBI is knocking on their door.  The Family is about to be destroyed.  Someone in the family is betraying them all.  Phoenix knows who it is, after all he knows all the family secrets.  Can he save the family?  Can he keep Bee from be touched by the war that is coming.  Will he have to kill a man that is one of his brothers?  Will he walk out with his heart as cold as it was or will he succumb to his true feelings for Bee?

Luca saw redemption within Phoenix’s soul.  Now it is up to Phoenix to rise from the ashes and soar.

The war is coming.  The Russians are at the door.  One man will be sacrificed for his betrayal.  One man will pay the price.  Welcome to the family…blood in…no out.

The Eagle Elite series is a complex and intricately woven series.  There are plots within plots.  Each book features a different family and the individual members. They are tightly connected to all the characters throughout the series. The grand plot grows throughout each book.  Ember cannot be read as a stand alone book.  Phoenix De Lange’s story began in Elite and has progressed throughout the first four books in the series.

Phoenix De Lange is a character that has been quite a force throughout this series.  In the beginning he was a monster that deserved to be hated.  He proved that there many layers in his persona.  He has evolved from being the devil himself to a broken man.  My heart broke for him.  I wanted him to find a slice of happiness that could be his and only his.  Rachel gave him a life worth living and a future to look forward to.

Ember set up the next book in the Eagle Elite Series.  The next book is Elude, will release in July 2015.  It is going to be a shocker.

Synopsis

BEYOND THE CONSEQUENCES

Book #5 of the bestselling Consequences series

From New York Times bestselling author Aleatha Romig comes more of the suspenseful romantic thriller about secrets and deception, passion and love, choices and consequences.

Secrets and deception

As the pieces of their puzzle come together, Anthony and Claire Rawlings continue to defy the odds. Together they overcame an incomprehensible beginning. Apart they endured unimaginable heartache. Reunited with family and friends, their journey continues as they navigate a dangerous world where secrets threaten to destroy what they hold the most dear.

Passion and love

Tony and Claire turn up the heat as sparks fly, passion rages, and love prevails. With only a dark glance or devilish grin, the fire that sparked in an isolated suite, continues to burn. Though no longer willing to be less than Tony’s equal in life, behind closed doors only one man makes the rules.

Choices and consequences

The safety of the Rawlings family is not debatable, and only Phillip Roach can assure that they are not disappointed. Learn how he leads old friends and new associates through the dangerous world of delusion and revenge. The choices he makes for both the family and his personal life will have consequences.

Beyond the Consequences is a novel that began as the novella, A Peek Beyond the Consequences, in a limited-release anthology, Breathless. Since its publication in 2014, Beyond the Consequences has more than tripled in length with more action, heat, and secrets to reveal. Learn once and for all the identity and fate of the sender of the Rawls-Nichols letters as you join the Rawlings for a special surprise!

Theirs was a long, complicated story with a monster and a knight. What made their story unique was that these two players were the same person.—Aleatha Romig, CONVICTED

4 STAR REVIEW

Robin’s Review

Back in September of 2014, Aleatha Romig published a novella that was included with 11 other stories in Breathless: an Anthology. A Peek Beyond the Consequences was unexpected and a welcomed surprise for fans of the Consequences series! We were given a glimpse of the future as it relates to Anthony, Claire and Nichol Rawlings, their extended family and employees. Romig has now expanded this novella to a full-length novel titled Beyond the Consequences. Her new novel is now almost three-times longer than its original size!

Up until now, I have considered the novels of the Consequences series to be dark psychological thrillers, but Beyond the Consequences seems to fall into the contemporary romance or romantic suspense genres. Yes, there are some elements of darkness, suspense and intrigue in this novel, but overall, I felt a sense of peace and happiness within the Rawlings family while I was reading. If my memory serves me correct, the first five chapters of Beyond the Consequences are the original novella found in Breathless: an Anthology. Just like me, there may be readers who realize they have already read the beginning of Beyond the Consequences. If you have not, please know these five chapters are excellent! They have their own story arc, complete with an entertaining mystery which is resolved.

Most of Beyond the Consequences takes place after the events of Convicted and Revealed. According to Romig, “It’s meant as a fun glimpse into the future of a family that had a very dark and unusual beginning.” Claire is now involved in the day-to-day running of the estate. Tony has resumed his position as the CEO of Rawlings Industries after a two-year absence, but he has also decided to share this position with Tim Bronson, who ran the company in his absence. Tony works from home quite often so that he can spend more time with his family. There are some very touching moments between Claire, Tony and Nichol in Beyond the Consequences. There are moments between the Rawlings, their family and friends which made me smile.

A good portion of this novel centers on Phillip Roach. Phil struggles with the decision to add a woman named Taylor Walters to the security team. He knows she is more than capable of doing her job, but he is very protective of the Rawlings family. After all, Phil considers them his family. There is less darkness in this novel, but don’t let that fool you. The security team continues to be concerned about packages and letters from an unknown individual that continue to arrive at the estate. Phil, Eric and Taylor are involved in an ongoing investigation that is one of the more interesting parts of this novel. If you enjoyed the mystery in Consequences, Truth, Convicted and Revealed, you won’t want to miss reading this.

The only negative criticism I have for Beyond the Consequences is that this story is missing the spine-tingling drama – something Aleatha Romig is well- known for – that is found in the earlier novels of the Consequences series. As I mentioned earlier, expect some elements of suspense and intrigue, but overall the darkness of the vendetta has played itself out. I consider this novel to be a contemporary romance or even a romantic suspense novel. Beyond the Consequences is actually a more realistic portrayal of life. The Rawlings family is now dealing with real life issues such as mental health, continued therapy sessions, medications, and the possibility of having more children. Family is a huge theme in this story. And, as always, Aleatha Romig’s writing style is beautiful. Please know that I enjoyed Beyond the Consequences. It was refreshing to see Tony and Claire continue to move forward in their relationship! Beyond the Consequence earns a solid 4 stars!

My name is Aria Winston. I’ve fought desperately to escape the seedy underbelly of Las Vegas. Now I’m in control of my own life and my own destiny . . . but my future belongs to Sebastian Caine.

Technically, Aria may still be in one piece, but she’s feeling pretty damn close to broken. While she knows Sebastian would die before hurting her, their intense, steamy encounters have opened up old wounds in them both. Now Aria is considering the unthinkable: walking away again—this time to save Sebastian from the pain she knows her past will cause him. But Sebastian’s the one who set her free in the first place—how can she not show him the same care and compassion? Because, in the end, being together forever is the only thing that feels right.

The characters in this series are phenomenal.  Their attraction and sexual chemistry is smoldering hot.  Their erotic relationship will keep the readers fanning themselves.  Their story is thrilling in so many ways.  From their current lives, their secrets from the past, their steamy relationship, their smoldering sexual escapades, and complicated new directions , The Play Me series is addicting.

Each book in this series was released on December 2, 2014.  Readers do not have to wait for the next book to come out.  The pricing for each book is similar to other serial romances on todays market.  The pricing for the series all together is equivalent to purchasing one book by one of the major publishing houses.  It is well worth the price and I highly recommend this series.

Although this series is a spin off of the Ethan Frost series it can be read as a stand alone series.

5 starPlay Me Right is the fifth and final volume in the Play Me series.  It rocked!

The journey that Aria and Sebastian started in the beginning has led to a very different path for both of them.  What started out as a way to teach Aria about the true meaning of control has evolved into much more.  Sebastian has learned some new lessons about control the hard way.  He has also learned that it is okay to lose control with someone that you love.  He has learned that control has more than one meaning.

Aria has finally come clean to Sebastian after she witnesses his total meltdown.  She knows what that meltdown has cost him.  She also knows that she can trust her heart with this man.

Together Aria and Sebastian have found a very beautiful once in a lifetime love in the middle of the chaos of Sin City.  They have shared their secrets and placed their trust in one another.  They have committed themselves to one another.

There is a surprise in this final book.  Ethan Frost’s enemy has taken on a much more personal level of hatred to Sebastian.  He has joined Ethan’s personal vendetta with one of his own.  I can’t wait for the next Ethan Frost novel.  I want to see these guys take names and deal out their wrath.

The Play Me Series is a solid five star series.  I was hooked from the first book and devoured the next four.  I highly recommend this series.

WRITING RIPPED

By Katy Evans

RIPPED – I’m so excited to be sharing with everyone RIPPED, Real series book #5! J

RIPPED began with Pandora, Brooke (Real, Mine and Remy) and Melanie’s (Rogue) goth friend. She’s such a wounded warrior and so bitter that I was completely hooked wanting to know—what happened? What made her like this? Why does she hate men so much?

And that’s how I met her man, Mackenna Jones.

He’s back in Seattle for the concert of the year, and Pandora hates him so much, she is still so stuck in the past for having loved (and lost) him when she was young, she’s determined to go pay him a visit and give him a little something to remember her by. Nothing nice, I assure you.

And that’s where RIPPED totally exploded for me. It’s one of those books where I couldn’t stop writing even for a second. It seemed like I just opened Pandora’s box of secrets and they came spilling out, one after the other. Memories, what truly happened in her eyes, in his eyes, their first kiss (sigh) and so much more. Their past is tumultuous and passionate and their present, when they reunite again, is just as passionate and rocky. They have a long way to go to their HEA but, though Pandora doesn’t feel she deserves it and has never let herself want it, Mackenna has another plan to conquer back his girl.

What I love about this couple in particular is how equal they seem—the push and the pull always kept me guessing as to who had control of the situation, sometimes Pandora had Mackenna by the pants, and plenty of others it was Mackenna who kept getting the upper hand, knowing each and every one of Pandora’s weaknesses (including that he is the main one.)

He is the boy she could never forget.

She is the girl no other girl has ever compared.

Things are about to get RIPPED during Mackenna’s concert tour when his manager thinks it brilliant to force Pandora to tag along.

Sneak Peek Excerpt

Rage bubbles up inside me full force.

“Now?” Melanie keeps asking me.

  1. Loathe. Him.

“Now?” she asks again.

I loathe him. He’s the only boy I’ve ever kissed. He took kisses that meant everything to me and turned them into a joke of a fucking song. A song that turns me into some sort of Eve, torturing and teasing him to sin. He is the sin. He is the penitence, the hell, and the devil, all in one.

I reach into my bag, nicely tucked under my poncho, and grab the first thing I find.

“Now,” I whisper.

Before Mackenna knows what hit him, Melanie and I have sent three tomatoes and a couple of eggs flying through the air.

The orchestra music isn’t enough to drown out his muttered “fuck,” audible through the microphone.

His jaw clamps and he yanks the mic down over his chin as he jerks his eyes around to find the source of the attack. I feel delirious when I see the genuine anger on his face. I squeal, “The rest!” and grab the remaining things we brought and just keep throwing. Not only at him, but at anyone who tries to get in the way—like the stupid dancers who rush to protect him. One of them makes a whimpering noise as an egg hits her face, and Mackenna jerks her back by the arm so he can take the hits himself, his furious eyes trying to find us in the crowd.

Then I hear Melanie shout, “Hey! LET GO, asshole!”

My arms are yanked behind me, and I’m suddenly shoved and pulled out of my place and down the aisle.

“Let go of us!” Melanie cries, struggling as two burly guards drag us away. “If you don’t let go of me right now, my boyfriend’s going to find your home and kill you in your sleep!”

The guard yanks me back harder, and I catch my breath as pain rushes up my arm.

“Asshole,” I hiss, but I don’t even bother to struggle. Melanie’s getting nowhere and I know it.

“She knows them! She knows the band! Who do you think he was singing about just now, asshole?” Melanie kicks into the air. “She’s Pandora! Let us fucking go.”

“You know Mr. Jones?” one guard asks me.

“Mr. Jones!” I scoff. “Seriously! If Mackenna’s a mister, I’m a unicorn!”

They seem to chuckle among themselves as they lead us past more security, around the stage, and to a small room in the back. One guy starts speaking into a radio as he unlocks the door.

Melanie struggles and tries to kick out, but the enormity of what could happen starts settling on me, and I grow quiet.

Holy. Shit. What have I done?

“You don’t have to look so happy, dickface. My boyfriend will find your home too and kill you next!” she tells the other guard.

They yank a door open and shove us inside. I stumble as I take a step, fighting for some dignity as I wiggle free of his grip. “Let go,” I grit, and he finally releases me.

The radio transmitter on his hip emits a sound. A voice says something I can’t make out, but it sounds a lot like cursing.

“Remove these,” one of the guards commands, pointing at our ponchos.

I pry the plastic off my body and Melanie does the same, then we watch helplessly as they strip us of the bags we’d hidden underneath the ponchos.

Melanie groans when they set our things on a table to the side. Cell phones. Two more tomatoes. Car keys.

“Wow. You guys can’t take a little joke now, can you?” Melanie asks them with a haughty little scowl.

I close my eyes and try to quell the panic rising in me.

Fuuuuck. What was I thinking?

I haven’t done anything this reckless in years.

And it felt good.

Also wrong. Very, very wrong.

But good. Great, in fact.

Hell, I can still picture the pissed, disbelieving look on Mackenna’s face. It gave me intense pleasure. Orgasmic pleasure. But now the intense feeling I’m experiencing is more along the lines of paralyzing fear.

What if the guards call him into the room to ask if he does, indeed, know me?

What if I have to stand here in this small stuffy room and look at him from thisclose!

I feel sick to my stomach. Later, Melanie’s going to want explanations. Big-time explanations; more than what I’ve told her so far. She’s going to have to tell Greyson what happened, and he’s going to want to know everything, because these stupid security guards messed with his girl. I don’t even know if I can explain to her the kind of past Mackenna and I share. January 22: the day I unfailingly get drunk and don’t bother to even see the light of day—I’d sworn to myself I’d never discuss that day. But Melanie and Greyson? They will want me to open my box of secrets. Of me and Mackenna Jones.

Hot, wet mouths melding . . .

Him, pushing into me, stretching me, taking me, loving me . . .

Promises.

Lies.

Loss.

Hatred.

The kind of hatred that’s only born of an intense, out-of-this-world love that went woefully wrong.

What am I going to say to him if I see him?

What am I going to do?

Please god, don’t punish me by making me look at him thisclose.

I pace and pray, pace and pray while Melanie studies her nails, the wall, and me, sighing with the bored confidence of someone who knows she’s getting out of here intact. If I see Mackenna, I really doubt it’ll be so easy. My stomach’s already in knots, and I’m having the most awful urge to vomit right now.

The concert seems to last forever. One of the guards comes and goes while the other opts to stand a few feet behind Melanie, standing all military-like, as if waiting for something.

Oh god, please let that something not be Mackenna.

I’m wearing off a layer of my boots’ soles when, a century later, the door swings open and a chubby man in a suit and tie steps in. My blood pools in my feet from my nervousness. Lionel Palmer, the band manager, also known as “Leo.” I saw his face and interview in this morning’s paper, but I have to say he looked much happier in that picture.

He glares at us—Melanie glaring back, me standing motionless—and his hands make meaty fists at his sides.

“Have you any idea what you just did?” he grits out, chubby cheeks blazing red. “How long we could keep you two cozy in a fucking lady prison? What kind of fucking fans are you?”

“We’re not fans,” Melanie says.

The door swings open and the twins, in all their male glory, join the melee. They look intimidating all the time, but now—with their blond hair, odd-color eyes, and perfectly pissed-off scowls—they’re a force to be reckoned with.

I can’t breathe.

“Who the fuck are these bitches?” the one with the snake tattoo demands.

“I’m getting to that, Jax,” Lionel says.

So the other one must be Lexington. He charges forward and looks at me, eyebrow piercing and all, then he looks at Melanie. He points his index finger, swinging it from her to me. “I hope you two have a lot of money, because one of our dancers is injured. If she’s screwed up for Madison Square Garden—”

“Don’t worry, Pandora, Greyson will take care of this,” Melanie says easily.

“Pandora,” Lionel repeats suddenly. He grows still, his eyes sliding back to me. “Your friend called you Pandora. Why?”

“Because it’s my name? Duh.”

I’m in the middle of rolling my eyes when the door swings open and a figure fills the space. I don’t think my heart is beating anymore. I feel like someone is strangling me and punching me on the inside.

Mackenna.

A few feet away.

In the same room as me.

Bigger and manlier than ever.

He kicks the door shut behind him. He’s wearing aviators, so I can’t see his eyes, and ohmigod, I hate him with a passion. I came here to hurt him, but I’m so overcome by my anger, I can’t seem to do anything but stand here with my breath getting trapped in my lungs, my heart squeezing in my chest, my body trembling as all my suppressed anger bubbles up inside me.

He is tall and dark, and the remains of a red gooey liquid trickle down his chest.

But what a perfect chest, with its thin trail of hair that leads the way from his navel to his dick. Tight leather pants mold to his bulging thighs. A bulging cock too. I swear girls might think he sticks a loaf of bread down his pants, but I can assure you that fucker is real. As huge as his fucking ego, and I remember it used to get as hard as his fucking head.

Not everyone can pull off a buzz cut, or a diamond stud earring, but he has a perfectly shaped head that makes you want to curl your hands around it and trace the curves with your lips. The diamond glints almost menacingly in his right ear, and when he takes off the sunglasses with an angry jerk, I see his brilliant, furious silver eyes, and I swear that it feels like coming home.

To a home that was wrecked, and burned, and there’s nothing left, but it’s still your home.

How fucked up is that?

God, please let him not be real. Let this be a nightmare. Let him be on the other corner of the world while I hate him safely from my corner in Seattle.

“She’s fucking Pandora?” Lionel asks Mackenna.

When Mackenna’s hard jaw only tightens, Lionel turns slowly around to study me. My brain is a tangle of confusion because Mackenna is staring straight at me like he can’t believe I’m standing here.

I can barely take his steely gaze. I thought this night would give me closure. That I could make him feel in front of his fans like I felt when he left: humiliated. Instead he stands there, every inch the rock god, even with tomato puree on his chest. He owns the room, carrying that unnamable X factor that nobody can pinpoint but that he has in spades, that tells you he owns this room and everyone in it.

And that fact only serves to piss me off further.

“Lionel,” he says in a low, warning tone.

Just one word makes Lionel ease back. Now nothing stops Mackenna from staring straight at me.

My face burns as I remember how I loved him. Deep, hard, completely.

Don’t think about that. You hate him now!

“Nice hair.” He shoves his glasses into the belt loops of his pants.

His voice, oh god.

His eyes run down the length of my hair, and Melanie offers, “I suggested she add a little spirit to her hair, so at least she looks happy.”

He doesn’t even look at Melanie. He looks at me in the most intense way, specifically the pink strand in my hair, waiting for me to answer. I loathe that pink strand, but not as much as I loathe him.

“Nice tights,” I return, and gesture to his leather pants. “How’d you get into them? From the top of a building and with a pound of butter?”

I refuse to let his chuckle move me, but I feel it run down my legs as he starts approaching. “No need to use butter anymore. These pants are a part of me.” He holds my gaze helplessly trapped. “Like you were a part of me once.”

He’s coming closer, and every step affects me. My cheeks burn. The gall of him to remind me. I’m so angry. Years of hurt simmer in me. Of loneliness and betrayal.

“Fuck you, Mackenna.”

“Already done, Pandora.”

Excerpt

“Mark.”

I squeeze my eyes shut as Crystal’s voice stirs an odd sensation in my chest that somehow eases the ache in my gut. Desire rockets through me, and I tell myself it’s about fucking and control. I need it, and she’s my safe zone outside of the club.

“Are you okay?” she asks when I do not speak.

When our gazes meet the jolt is as unwelcome as it is intense. She feels it, too. I see it in the slight widening of her eyes, the way she curls her fingers into her palms on the counter across from me.

“You were furious with me a few minutes ago,” I say. “Why are you standing here now?”

“I’m not one-dimensional. I can be furious and worried at the same time.”

Unable to squash my intrigue over the unknowns of her past, I agree. “No, you aren’t one-dimensional. Nor are you simply a rich girl who wants to prove something to daddy.”

“Thank you.” She crinkles her brow. “I think.”

We fall into silence, a hum of electricity charging between us. “I still go back to you saying ‘The End’ to me a few minutes ago. You meant it this time, too. That doesn’t translate to you standing here.”

“Neither does much of what you do, where I’m concerned.”

“You’re absolutely right. It doesn’t. What does, though, is sticking to ‘The End.’ What doesn’t is how badly I want to drag you into another room and fuck you right now.”

She shakes her head. “It’s not me you want. It’s someone who’ll sign a contract and be your outlet and bridge to control. You left that bedroom thinking about the impossibility of a reason for Rebecca’s death, beyond your self-blame and guilt. You need that bridge.”

There is banked pain lacing her words, and a hint of the earlier anger I’d seen in her eyes. I could make those things go away by telling her what she’s said isn’t true. I could tell her she’s gotten under my skin. But I don’t even know who the man beneath the surface is right now. I’ve destroyed two women. Crystal doesn’t deserve to be number three.

“Is everything okay?” my father asks from the doorway, repeating Crystal’s earlier words.

“Yes,” I say, my gaze lingering on Crystal before I push off the counter, hands going to my hips. “We’re ready to talk to Mom about what’s been going on.”

“We are?” Crystal asks, sounding surprised. “Tonight?”

“We can’t risk her finding out from somewhere else,” I explain.

“She’d feel betrayed,” my father adds.

Crystal gives a choppy nod. “Yes. I can see that. But I am not looking forward to telling her.”

“None of us are,” my father says. “Right now, though, she wants us all to eat together. And since it’s the best chance we have of getting some food down her, I say we wait until after we’ve finished. I don’t want to jeopardize her appetite.”

“I’m all for getting food down her,” I say. “She’s skin and bones.”

“I’ve been force-feeding her what she does eat,” Crystal adds. “The nurse suggested some high-calorie protein shakes. I tried that, but she hates them.”

My father starts to turn, then pauses. “By the way, Crystal, Larry Prescot called me just before you got here. You won him over. Thanks for calming him down before he got to Dana.”

“My pleasure.”

He disappears into the hallway and I grab Crystal’s arm. “How okay is Prescot?”

“Very.”

“How can you be sure?”

“I threw out my father’s name—something that I normally would never do.”

“But?”

“I was on the phone with my father when the receptionist buzzed to tell me that Prescot had arrived for our meeting. My father overheard and insisted that I drop his name. I reminded him that I’m adamant about succeeding on my own merits. But I’m also not one to foolishly ignore resources when backed into a corner, and I was. Prescot was being a total jerk. I knew we were about to lose the business.”

“So you broke your rule.”

“I did. And it was an amazing turnaround. Prescot suddenly remembered the many ways people have tried to paint him as a monster in the media, and became sympathetic rather than judgmental. I called my father afterward, and it turns out that Prescot enjoys the benefits of his secretary beyond her exceptional organizational skills, and his wife of twenty years doesn’t know.”

“But your father does.”

“Yes. And now, so do we.”

My lips curve. “Sounds like I owe you and your father a thank-you.”

“All you’d get in return from my father is a demand that I quit my job. He hates me working for anyone but him, especially now with all this bad press.”

“Is he afraid it will overflow to him?”

“No. He’s afraid I’ll get hurt.”

Me too, I think. Me too. “And what did you tell him?”

“I told him I’m his daughter, not his possession. He doesn’t own me any more than you do, and neither of you gets to claim responsibility for my happiness. That’s all mine.”

As she leaves the room, I stare after her in silent agreement. I’m not responsible for her happiness. But I’m not going to be responsible for her misery, either.

Tracey’s Review

some of my favorite books, filled with twists and turns, mysteries, romance, intrigue, and danger. It is literally hard for me to put these books down when I’m reading them, because they are just so compelling. Lisa Renee writes great characters, angsty and real, that draw me in to their worlds, and storylines that hook me every single time. I BELONG TO YOU, the final chapter in Mark Compton’s and Crystal Smith’s story, was no exception.

Over the course of the series, we have come to see the different sides of Mark, but he has always been, without exception, in control. He is a Master, after all, careful to keep his emotions in check, even to the point of losing his beloved Rebecca because of it. In the novellas THE MASTER UNDONE and MY CONTROL, we began to see glimpses of a different Mark Compton, as his relationship with Crystal Smith awakened feelings in him that he kept buried deep down. Crystal also has a past that shaped her and made her a woman determined to forge her own way. She challenges Mark in every way, in the workplace and in the bedroom, refusing to hand over control.

I did not particularly like Mark in previous books. He was aloof, condescending, and very much in charge, and he took great pleasure in letting everyone know that he was the boss. Recently, though, the realization that his actions with Rebecca put her in a position that led to her death, and his feelings of helplessness around his mother’s illness have begun to change him. As his relationship with Crystal evolves and they become a real couple, learning each others’ secrets and earning each others’ trust, Mark emerges as the man that he likely would have been all along, if his past hadn’t taken such a painful turn. This is a Mark Compton that I could actually appreciate, as he has finally come to a place of peace.

Lisa Renee has done a nice job of weaving all of the pieces of this series together to get to the point where we understand the cause of each character’s pain, and are looking forward now to their continued growth. The final book in the series, ALL OF ME, releases in February 2015, and I am looking forward to seeing how she will wrap everything up for all the characters and answer any remaining questions. I would easily recommend both I BELONG TO YOU and the entire Inside Out series as some of my must-read books.

Kelley’s Review

I Belong To You is a very seductive and suspense-filled read.  This is a mini-series that I really didn’t want to see come to an end.  Why do I call it a mini-series?  I call it that because it reads like its own stand-alone series.  The first 3 novellas from Mark’s POV(The Master Undone, My Hunger, and My Control) culminate in this novella .   I feel like Ms. Jones’s skill and talent outshine many other authors because she provides enough information regarding Mark’s backstory for the reader to connect emotionally with his character.  I don’t need to know all the details of Mark and Rebecca’s past relationship to understand that he made some serious mistakes that continue to haunt him.  Ms. Jones gives the reader just enough background that her heart will break for Mark and Crystal as they battle demons from their pasts in order to create a future together.

We start off I Belong To You with Mark still being a person of interest in Rebecca’s disappearance.  The media are hounding him after his D/S relationship with Rebecca was revealed.  At the same time, he is dealing with his mother’s illness and the auction house- he feels his world spinning out of control.  Crystal becomes his rock and solid ground.  With one touch she is able to calm the demons he is wrestling with.  Mark is so afraid of Crystal ending up like Rebecca that he keeps his heart guarded for as long as he possibly can.

Crystal is burning the candle at both ends handling operations of the auction house, keeping clients happy when they call upset about what is going on in the media, and sitting at Mark’s mother’s bedside as she recovers from debilitating treatment.  Crystal loves Dana like a daughter loves her mother.  They have formed an unbreakable bond and it devastates Crystal to see Dana so weakened after her cancer treatments.  She is grateful that Mark has moved back to town because his mother is now driven to get better more than she ever was before.

A beautiful love story unfolds between Crystal and Mark as the walls they have built around themselves begin to crumble and their darkest secrets are revealed.  The man behind the master is finally unveiled and readers will not be able to help but fall in love with Mark Compton.  Lisa writes an amazingly suspenseful and action-packed read as Crystal and Mark stay on alert as danger lurks around every corner.  She kept me flipping the pages and losing sleep because I had to see what was going to happen next!

The only thing I could ask for to make this book even better is a longer epilogue.  I feel like the book ended so abruptly that I did not get to bask in the glow of the happily ever after.  Because Lisa Renee Jones is always surprising us I hope she considers maybe just one more novella for Mark and Crystal to give readers that euphoric feeling they get from a spectacular end to an epic series.  I really enjoyed this mini-series and am looking forward to watching this story unfold into a television series.  Bravo Ms. Jones on a job well done!
