The determined woman his family almost destroyed.Locke Montgomery has only one purpose — atone for a sin that has tortured him for nearly a decade. With the hard-earned billions from the sale of his tech company, Locke created a new identity that’s perfect cover for the mercenary organization that doles out justice to those who have avoided it. He spends his off time planning new and reckless ways to test the boundaries while dreaming about the one woman who stole his heart.

The one woman who will never give him a second chance.

Elle Matheson has finally rebuilt the bookstore run by her parents before the corporation that put them out of business drove her dad to a heart attack.

Working in the little beachside shop surrounded by the smell of ink and paper, she can almost forget the pain of finding out the company that ruined her life was owned by the family of the man she loved. But when another mega-store threatens to expand across the street, Elle’s nightmare seems to be playing out all over again. Then she runs into the one man who could make the situation worse — the one responsible for the demise of her parent’s dream.

She promises herself she’ll only give him five minutes in a coffee shop, but before she knows it Locke is showing up at the store, sending her flowers, pulling her into his high-stakes, adventurous life.

And she’s falling every bit as hard as she did the first time.

But when she uncovers the terrible truth about Locke’s line of work she’s forced to admit there are only two possibilities; either Locke has never been anything but wrong for her, or some rules are meant to be broken —in life and in love.

Excerpt

She looked up at him, looming over her, his eyes flashing with desire. Even clothed, he was perfection, his big biceps and broad shoulders straining the fabric of his long-sleeved T-shirt, his erection pushing the bounds of his jeans. But it wasn’t enough.

She wanted to touch him. To feel the heat of his skin under her fingers.

She sat up, ran her hands up his denim-clad thighs, let them snake under his shirt, moisture rushing to her sex when her fingers finally came in contact with the heat of his skin, the ripple of his abs.

She touched her lips to the skin just above the button on his jeans, and he hissed as her tongue snaked out to taste the salt on his skin. He held her head in his hands while she undid the button, unzipped his jeans, reached in to free his cock.

He groaned as she wrapped her hand around him, stroking him long and slow.

He gently removed her hand. “I think we better save that for later.”

She leaned back on the bed. He’d always been a considerate lover. Someone who liked to take his time, to make sure he’d wrung every drop of pleasure from her before he took his own.

“What are you going to do to keep me busy until then?” she asked.

He stripped off his shirt, then pushed his jeans to the floor.

“I think I’ve got that covered.”

She couldn’t take her eyes off him.

He’d always been beautiful, his cock large and thick, perfectly formed. But now it was part of a larger whole.

Emphasis on the word larger.

His chest was sculpted as if by a master, the defined muscle tapering to rippled abs, a prominent “V” leading downward. His cock stood at attention, the sight of it bringing a visceral pulse between her legs as she imagined him pushing into her. His thighs were muscular without being beefy, the thighs of an athlete — and a world-class lover.

She spread her knees, giving him a glimpse of her pussy, throbbing with need for him. “Are you just going to stand there? Or are you going to join me?”
He stepped toward the bed, kneeled on the edge of it until he was nestled between her knees. “Do you have to ask?”

He leaned over her and she gasped as the head of his cock brushed against the sensitive bud of her clit. Then he was stretched out over her, his face inches above her own as he smoothed the hair back from her forehead and looked into her eyes.

“I never thought I’d get to look at you like this again,” he said.

She reached up to smooth the furrows from his brow, wishing it was that easy to take away the pain he’d felt for the last eight years.

Wishing she could erase her own.

“I’m right here,” she said. “Can’t you feel me?”

“I can feel you.” He pushed his hips into hers until his erection slid between her folds, the tip teasing her clit until she squirmed under him. “Can you feel me?”

She locked her hands behind his neck, thrust her hips upward to meet his. “It’s not enough. Make me remember.”

She realized it was what she wanted: not to forget everything that had happened since they’d been apart, but to remember the way it had been when they were together. To remember how it once was and then build something new on top of it, a big open room with walls of glass and no secrets.

About FRAUD

From USA Today Bestselling author J.L. Berg comes a sexy standalone about love, lies and every dirty little thing in between.

It wasn’t just a job.
It was my way back to the top.
After losing my position as a journalist for one of the biggest news publications in the world, I knew I’d do anything to get it back.
Even if it meant breaking a few hearts to get there.
She was the hottest author in the country. Known only by a pen name, there wasn’t a person alive who wasn’t dying to discover her true identity.
And I’d figured it out.

Her real name was Kate O’Malley and not only did I plan on finding her, but I fully intended on learning every dirty secret she had and exploiting it for my own gain.
But I underestimated my prey.
I didn’t anticipate how her words would intoxicate me, or how the curves of her body would consume me.
I never meant to fall in love.
And now I had a choice to make.

Do I give up everything for the woman I set out to destroy, or walk away, making me the biggest fraud of all?

What had started as a fun little game to bring this timid beauty out of her shell somehow turned into a wrestling match.

And I was the one about to lose.

Katelyn O’Malley was nothing like I’d imagined.

What had I imagined?

I wasn’t sure exactly.

I’d diligently done my homework— reading Scandal not once, but twice— before I’d hopped on a plane to Oregon. I’d thought the novel would give me insight to this perplexing woman I was about to meet.

It hadn’t.

Not one bit.

If anything, it’d created a thousand more questions.

At first, cracking her ironclad shell seemed like a daunting task. She had come off dry and dull.

God-awful boring.

But boring women didn’t do tequila shots until two in the morning.

Boring women didn’t lie to waiters for free wine and dessert.

And boring women definitely didn’t make me feel this way.

Needy. Desperate. And fucking horny as hell.

Even the way she licked the chocolate off her fork was making me shift uncomfortably in my seat.

This was a job.

Get your head in the game.

“You were pretty good at that,” I said, trying not to stare at the way her pink tongue darted out to grab the last bit of mousse from the tip of her finger.

“Good at what?” she asked.

“Lying.”

She let out a choking cough, patting her chest with her palm. “I’m not a good liar,” she argued.

“Really? You seemed to have everyone around us fooled, including that charming elderly couple who offered their congratulations on their way out.”

“That really was sweet.” She smiled, a touch of whimsy in her gaze. “Did you see the way they held hands? I’m pretty sure he even grabbed her ass when she walked past him to go to the restroom.”

I laughed. “My kind of guy.”

“I just wonder what it’s like— to be that in love after all that time,” she said, bending forward and resting the curve of her chin on her hand.

“How do you know it has been a long time?” I asked. “Maybe they got married late in life.”

She shook her head. “I don’t think so.”

“Why?” I asked, curious how she’d reached that conclusion.

“There was a familiarity in the way they touched. The way they leaned into one another, the way they walked. It was as if they’d been doing so forever.”

I studied her for a quiet moment, recalling the intensity of her words and the passion in her voice. It was the first time since meeting Katelyn O’Malley, I could actually see a sliver of Laura Stone, the author, somewhere inside.

“I do believe you are a bit of a romantic at heart,” I replied.

She smiled sweetly. “Maybe a hopeless one.”

My hand reached out to hers, a needless gesture since we’d already achieved our goal for the evening and sold everyone on our false marital status.

This time, I touched her because I wanted to.

“Definitely not hopeless,” I said softly, knowing that instant that I was crossing the line between business and pleasure.

And heading straight to the land of hell.

“So, tell me about technical editing,” she said, shifting topics. “How does one get into something like that?”

I suddenly felt like I’d been hit in the face with a bucket of ice water. Here I was, in a dimly lit room, romancing the hell out of a woman I’d just met, and then reality hit.

I was lying to her.

Flat-out lying.

I needed to remember that. “There’s not much to tell,” I said, straightening slightly in my chair. “Rather boring really.”

We continued to chat about our lives. She told me more about her work at the college. I rambled off more lies about mine until the check came around.

I was feeling quite good about myself as I led us outside.

My head was clear.

But then I saw the way the moonlight highlighted her golden-blonde hair. I became mesmerized by the sway of her hips and the soft curves of her body.

Katelyn O’Malley was casting a spell on me, and she didn’t even know it.

And I wasn’t sure I wanted her to stop.

✮✮✮ JOY RIDE is here! Grab your copy today! ✮✮✮

From the #1 New York Times Bestselling author of FULL PACKAGE and BIG ROCK, comes a hot & hilarious new standalone romantic comedy…

Let’s be honest, ladies. A good man is a lot like the perfect car. You want a hot body, an engine that purrs, and superior performance under the hood…for the best joy ride of your life.

I’m at your service. Ready to go all night long.

But then a wildly sexy brunette appears in my life and throws a wrench in all my plans. She’s fiery, she’s talented, she’s gorgeous, and I’d really like to know what makes her engine hum.

Henley also happens to be my biggest rival, and now we’re forced to work together every day on the most important custom car build of my career. The trouble is I can’t quite figure out if she wants to kick me in the lug nuts or beg me to give her a good, hard fuel injection. Until one night that question is answered on the hood of a sports car when she calls out my name three times. And we can’t seem to put on the brakes.

If sleeping with the enemy is a bad idea, how much more dangerous would it be to fall in love with her?

Excerpt:

I point to the guy behind the glass. “You want Peter’s number?”

“I don’t know. Do you think he likes piňa coladas and making love in the rain?”

For a flash second, a burst of wildfire curls through my veins. It feels like white-hot jealousy. Which is ridiculous since she’s not making love to Peter.

Or me, for that matter, obviously.

I fight off the envy with a full dose of sarcasm. “Have you ever noticed you never have a good pair of headphones when you need them?”

She huffs. “Message received. I’ll just shut up and read a book.” She reaches for her phone on the seat, but accidentally knocks it to the floor of the car. I lean down to pick it up, and when I hand it to her I see her playlist.

Nena’s “99 Luftballoons.”

The Go-Go’s “Vacation.”

Madonna’s “Like a Virgin.”

I smirk. That’s too fucking adorable. “You like bubblegum pop?”

Her cheeks go red. “There’s nothing wrong with bubblegum pop,” she says as she tries to grab her phone from my hand.

I. Can’t. Resist.

I don’t know what comes over me, but I’m pretty damn sure it’s the way this girl needles me. It’s her French maid routine. It’s her pushing all my buttons. It’s the way she detests me.

I hold her phone behind my head.

“Max,” she says, in a perfect plea. God, it’s hot. I can hear her saying it in bed.

I feign surprise. “Oh, did you want your phone back, tiger?”

Her eyes widen when I use that word. Frankly, I’m surprised I said it. But she is a tiger, especially right now as she leans across the seat, reaching for it.

Damn, I’m an asshole. And yet, I can’t seem to stop playing keep-away with her phone, jamming it far behind me so that it hits the side of the car. She lunges for it, thrusting her arm out, but only hitting my forearm.

She swats me. “Give it to me.”

My brain short-circuits. She would sound hot saying that bent over the bed.

Then in a flurry, she unbuckles her seat belt and lunges at me.

Foul play indeed.

She’s on me. She’s fucking on me. She climbs, stretching high, her tits near my motherfucking face, so help me God. They are saggy, drooping, ugly breasts.

Except they’re not.

They’re perfect. Lush, ripe.

Like her sweet perfume scent. Like her cinnamon breath that flutters across my cheek as she rises higher. As she reaches, her T-shirt rides up, revealing a sliver of her stomach.

I’ve never seen anything so sexy in my life.

I don’t move. I don’t breathe.

I simply try not to grow more aroused. But then she wraps one hand around my wrist and pries the phone with the other as her breasts smash against my eyes.

Man down.

The bowtie is BACK!

Dre was just a beautiful stranger when Preppy saved her the first time around. Now, he has to save her again, but she’s no longer some stranger, she’s family, and he has no idea who or what he’s up against.

What he does know is that putting his family back together is the only acceptable outcome.

Preppy’s to-do list?

SAVE FAMILY. SEEK REVENGE.

He’s alive…and he’s out for BLOOD.

Preppy Part Three is the third book and conclusion of Preppy and Dre’s story. It’s also the 7th book in the King Series, which should be read in order starting with KING & TYRANT.

Excerpt:

Kevin had occasionally done something that reminded me of myself, but next to a DNA test, I still had no valid proof he was my brother. Nothing that connected us as family.

Until now.

“Dude, you’re creeping me out,” Kevin said, reaching for his shorts.

Before he could pull them back on I dropped the hose and bee-lined toward him, wrapping him in a bear hug. “You really are my brother.”

“Huh?” Kevin asked, standing as still as a statue.

“Shhhh…just let me love you.”

“What exactly is going on out here?” Dre asked from the porch, flipping on the light. I still didn’t let go.

“He’s my brother. I’m sure of it now,” I informed her.

“I have no idea what’s going on,” Kevin said, wiggling free from my grip.

“Oh yeah?” Dre asked, amusement in her sleepy tone. She yawned and cinched the sash of the sexy little robe she was wearing that showed off those amazing legs of hers. “How are you so sure?”

I stepped back and pointed down to Kevin’s massive cock. “Because of that!”

Dre’s sweet laughter filled the air. I picked up the hose again and started to spray Kevin down. “Shit man, that’s cold!” he shouted, dancing around in the grass. “And are you gonna fill me in on what exactly she’s laughing at?”

“That,” I informed him, spraying his crotch with water. “Because I just found more proof that we’re brothers than the fact that we think we both were shot out of the same cunt.” I grinned from ear to ear.

“Okay? And what’s that?” Kevin asked. I turned off the hose and Dre tossed him a towel.

I dropped my eyes to the huge slab of man meat between Kevin’s legs. “From the waist down we’re not just brothers, we’re fucking twinsies.”

“Uh, what the fuck, Preppy?” Kevin asked, putting his shorts back on.

“Quick,” I said. “Tell me something. How do you feel about pancakes?”

Kevin shivered. “Honestly, I’m more of a waffle kind of guy.”

Dre gasped.

I shut my eyes tightly, clenching my fists at my side. I cracked my neck and slowly turned to face him. I opened my eyes. “What the fuck did you just say to me, boy? You better start running.”

“Wait, what?” Kevin asked, taking a step back and tripping over the sprinkler. He stood up and bolted through the gate. I chased him through the field while Dre looked on and laughed.

“I take it all back! You’re not my brother!” I shouted, tackling him to the ground and sitting on his chest.

“What the fuck, Preppy?” Kevin asked, squirming under me.

“You and I need to have a serious fucking talk.” I leaned down until my nose was almost touching his. “About the abomination that is waffles.”

Michel’s Review

It was a bittersweet moment when I opened Preppy Part Three: The Life & Death of Samuel Clearwater by T. M. Frazier.  I knew this was the final book in the King Series and I was going to have to say goodbye to one of my most beloved book characters of all time. Preppy, aka Samuel Clearwater, is a thief.  He stormed into the book world, jumped off the pages, and blatantly stole the readers hearts with no apologies or regret.  He was ruthless with his extreme optimism, odd sense of humor,  quirky fashion sense, unique code of ethics, and his unquestionable dedication to those he loved.  Was he a good guy? The general rules of society would say no.  He was a criminal, a killer, and psycho. But as we all know, the definitions of good and bad can be loosely interpreted. A person can possess both of those qualities, it’s all about how they portray and use those qualities that matter most.  Preppy was ruled by his pure heart.  He loved unconditionally. Receiving his love was like a ray of sunshine in the midst of a hurricane.  He died for those he loved.  He lived to make their world a better place ( by Preppy’s definitions of better).  He was the HEART of the King series.

As the rest of Preppy’s story unfolds, it is another wild ride in the gator infested waters. Preppy has become a true husband and father.  He’s discovered he has a younger brother by blood.  He’s catching up with the world that moved on while he was dead and is finally finding his place in that world.  He’s found himself again and now he’s the new and improved Preppy.  The new Preppy is a bit more cynical and a lot more dangerous. When unknown enemies try to harm his family, he’s going to do more than kill them.  He’s going to make them bleed one drop at a time and feed them to the gators.

It all begins with Dre being kidnapped and his brother Kevin surfacing.  He doesn’t know who his enemies are because most of them are dead by King and Bear’s retribution or by his own hand.  He not sure who he can trust other than King and Bear.  The only thing he can focus on is protecting his wife and son.

As the danger escalates there are many shocking revelations about the past.  Preppy intends to redefine the past and rewrite the story.  King and Bear have his back no matter what.  Dre loves him unconditionally.  Bo is his reason for building a future.

This is the testament of Preppy’s life.

T. M. Frazier created a series that readers couldn’t get enough of.  It was more than a dark romance series, it was an ongoing story of dedicated friendship, deep rooted ties to family, conquering the world, and unconditional love.  Preppy was the HEART!

Although this is the final book in the King series… it is not a goodbye.  Preppy will live in our hearts forever.

Synopsis

Samuel Clearwater, A.K.A Preppy, likes bowties, pancakes, suspenders, good friends, good times, good drugs, and a good f*ck.

He’s worked his way out from beneath a hellish childhood and is living the life he’s always imagined for himself. When he meets a girl, a junkie on the verge of ending it all, he’s torn between his feelings for her and the crippling fear that she could be the one to end the life he loves.

Andrea ‘Dre’ Capulet is strung out and tired.

Tired of living for her next fix. Tired of doing things that make her stomach turn. Tired of looking in the mirror at the reflection of the person she’s become. Just when she decides to end it all, she meets a man who will change the course of both their lives forever.

And their deaths.

For most people, death is the end of their story.
For Preppy and Dre, death was only the beginning.

This is the fifth book in the King Series and it’s meant to be read after Soulless.

HIDDEN DEPTH by Brenda Rothert is LIVE!

BLURB:

I had it all.

Breaking into the entertainment business as a teenager wasn’t easy. I spent years of my childhood traveling, auditioning and hoping my big break would come. And when I did, I rose to a level I never imagined.

Elle Tyler: model, singer and actress. I couldn’t go anywhere without security anymore. It was everything I ever wanted and more – fame, fortune and worldwide recognition. At age twenty-four, I was living a dream.

But a single act of violence shattered my fairytale existence. In a matter of seconds, all the goodness in me was ripped to shreds. Overnight, the people around me dropped away, moving on to find the next big thing. I gave up on myself, becoming a woman so dark and forlorn I no longer recognized myself.

But the stranger who saved me that day, Justin Lockhart, never gave up on me. He still saw light through my darkness. And as we grew closer, I started to see it, too. And I also started to see that before that terrible day, maybe I didn’t really have it all. Maybe I was always missing the only thing that really matters.

I THOUGHT I HAD wrapped my arms around the world. Fortune and fame are the ultimate dream, right? But when an act of violence shattered all my notions, I was forced to face painful truths. It wasnt until Id lost so much that I found the one thing that really mattersand the place that made anything seem possible.

ITS PERFECT,MY ASSISTANT Chloe says, grinning proudly as she tucks a loose strand of my hair into the floppy beach hat.

Im not sure Id use that word,I say, giving her a skeptical look.

Dont be hatinon the hat. Its a perfect disguise hat.

Its a beach hat, and its February in St. Louis. How is this not going to draw attention?

She lowers her brows and tries to fold the sides of the hat down. You think its easy making a redhead incognito? A redhead who happens to have one of the most recognizable faces in the world?

I roll my eyes at that. Stop. You dont need to kiss my ass.

I know. But I saw a BuzzFeed article this morning about the most recognizable faces in the world, and you were one of them.

My lips part with surprise. Really?

She nods and then stands back to eye the bright pink hat. With the sunglasses, I think well be ready.

When she breaks out a pair of black sunglasses with round lenses large enough to hide half my face, I roll my eyes. Those are the very definition of conspicuous.

Hey,she says defensively. I did the best I could. That little souvenir shop was the only place I could find with hats.

When I sent you out to pick up something, I was thinking like . . . a hoodie. Not Jackie O doing a flamingo impression.

Its a short trip from the room out to our bus. Just keep your head down.

Theres a knock on the door to my suite, and when Chloe opens it, my bodyguard Andre walks in. Ready, Elle?

Yeah, yeah,I mutter, noticing his smirk. Laugh it up.

Its just that its sort of a . . . loud disguise.

Andre kind of looks like The Rock, if The Rock had gotten his nose broken lots of times in fights, and if he were covered in tattoos. Andres usually pretty quiet, and since hes only been my bodyguard for a few months, were still adjusting to each other. Im not quite comfortable firing off a comeback at him yet.

Ill give you that,I say with a sigh.

Ill carry that,he offers, reaching for the bag thrown over my

shoulder.

Thanks.I hand it over, wincing a little.

Hows the shoulder?he asks, his brows lowering with concern.

I give him a half shrug. Its sore.

At my concert last night, I hurt my shoulder while dancing. I just twisted it in a funny way on accident, and by the end of the performance, it was throbbing. The doctor who travels with me on tour said I have to go to the hospital for tests when we get to Chicago later today. Im not looking forward to that, and Im also not canceling the Chicago show if he suggests it.

Youll be okay,Andre says. Youre only twenty-four, so your body heals fast.

How old are you?I ask him.

How old do you think I am?

I cant believe we havent had this conversation yet. I squint as I look him overlaugh lines, grayish temples, and all.

Thirty-five?

Thirty-eight,he says, opening the door for Chloe and me.

Chloe is wheeling a giant suitcase behind her, and Andre insists on taking it, as well as the bag she has slung over her shoulder.

The other bus left half an hour ago,she says. Ours is waiting.

I nod, my mind already moving on to Chicago. Its one of my favorite places to perform. My backup dancers and other crew members ride on another bus, because I like to decompress when Im on the road. Itll just be me, Chloe, Andre, and our driver on the main bus.

Ive come a long way from my days traveling between county fairs to perform in talent shows. At the time, I didnt even realize how rigorous a schedule it was. Now I think back and wonder if my parents were confident Id get a break, or if they thought they might be sacrificing everything only for me never to make it.

Tracey’s Review

I’ve been a Brenda Rothert fan for ages, and have read and enjoyed the earlier books in her Lockhart Brothers series. I knew that there was one more Lockhart brother to get to know a little bit better, but thought for sure that his story couldn’t top the others. I mean, Brenda handled some very touchy subjects with grace, passion, and redemption there, and how do you match that? Well, if you’re Brenda, you write HIDDEN DEPTH, that’s how.

I fell in love with Elle and Justin from the very beginning of their story. Beyond the horror, the loss, and the life changes that both had to endure, there was acceptance, compassion, friendship, and a sense of being home. Elle and Justin are two very special people, and their ability to just be themselves and be there for each other made my heart happy.

Is it crazy to think that a man from a small town and a wildly famous entertainer might just be able to find each other in this world and make a go of it? The romantic in me says heck, no, and cheered Justin and Elle on from beginning to end. I could not have been happier with their journey, but I am always happy to see some ‘down the road’ details, so, Brenda, if you decide to visit Lovely, MO, for some more Lockhart family time, I’m totally down with it.

HIDDEN DEPTH is an endearing, sexy, uplifting 4.5-star read for me, and joins the other books in this series in sharing some of my favorite of Brenda’s characters. I highly recommend making a trip to Lovely and getting to know the Lockart family. It’s a trip worth taking.

New Release + Excerpt + 5 Star Review: Lost Rider by Harper Sloan – The Coming Home Series – Book 1

lostrider1In Lost Rider, the first Western romance in New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Harper Sloan’s Coming Home series, an injured rodeo star encounters an old flame but will she be just what he needs to get back in the saddle?

Maverick Austin Davis is forced to return home after a ten-year career as a rodeo star. After one too many head injuries, he’s off the circuit and in the horse farming business, something he’s never taken much of a shine to, but now that it’s his late father’s legacy, familial duty calls. How will Maverick find his way after the only dream he ever had for himself is over?

Enter Leighton Elizabeth James, an ugly duckling turned beauty from Maverick’s childhood—his younger sister’s best friend, to be exact, and someone whose heart he stomped all over when she confessed her crush to him ten years back. Now Leighton is back in Maverick’s life, no longer the insecure, love-stricken teen—and Maverick can’t help but take notice. Sparks fly between them, but will Leighton be able to open her heart to the one man who broke it all those years ago?

Written in the vein of Diana Palmer and Lindsay McKenna, this Texas-set series is filled with sizzle, heart, and plenty of cowboys!

I should tell Quinn and Clay that he’s here. But one look at him and it’s like the last ten years have never passed and I’m back at the bonfire, the awkward high schooler uncomfortable in her own skin. Marching away from him in the woods. It was the last time I saw him. How is it possible that he can affect me this much after all this time?

He hasn’t noticed me, not with his head bowed, so I quickly turn around and focus on Pastor John as he finishes up his prayer. Him being here means nothing. I should be happy that I remember the pain from that night so well, it will make keeping my walls up around him so much easier.

“On behalf of the Davis family, I want to thank everyone for coming today. At this time, the family has asked for some time alone as they say their good-byes. They wanted me to remind everyone that the PieHole will be opening up for a few hours tonight starting at five for anyone that wishes to join them.”

I keep my arm around Quinn, not looking back to where I saw Maverick. I can hear the church slowly emptying and I feel a frown pull at my lips. I had hoped that when everyone started to leave that he would have come up front to be with his family, but so far, the pew we’re in is still empty save for the three of us. We sit and wait for everyone to leave, something that Clay had asked Pastor John to make arrangements for in place of the customary recessional, knowing that no one in this town would really mean a word of it anyway. Plus, I know Quinn is having a hard time. Regardless of the fact that she wasn’t the closest with her father, she was really counting on this—Maverick home. She’s still shaking in my arms, but when I look over at Clay I realize his silence isn’t because of the heaviness of Buford’s death, but instead anger over his brother’s absence that has started to build to a boil. I fear that he’s seconds away from tipping over the edge.

I stand when Clay and Quinn do, but hang back at the edge of the row we had been sitting in as they meet Pastor John and gather their father’s ashes. I can’t wait to get out of these heels. If it would have been acceptable to wear my boots, I would have, but Quinn would have killed me. As it is, I feel like I can’t take a deep breath with how tight my dress is against my chest. I never wear tight shirts. I haven’t since my boobs became beasts of their own right. I’m too busy fiddling with the straps of my dress, trying desperately to get some of the pressure against my chest to ease up so I could take a deep breath, when I heard Quinn gasp.

“Mav!” Next thing I know she’s running past where I’m standing, her black hair streaming in the air behind her as she speeds forward right into her brother’s arms. Clay moves to stand next to me and I look up to meet his green eyes, the questions he isn’t vocalizing dancing in their emerald depths. He’s not stupid and I’m doing a crappy job at hiding the memories haunting me right now. He gives me a small smile, shifting his hold on the urn to wrap his free arm around me and pulls me into a strong hold.

“You’re shakin’,” he says against my temple and I just nod.

“I’m good, Clay. Go see your brother.”

“I’m fine right where I am, sugar.”

I keep my eyes to the ground, focusing on his worn boots instead of looking up, hating myself for making this moment about me when I should be focused on them. Like it or not, I can’t fight the feelings that being near him bring me. I’m that stupid, naive sixteen-year-old all over again. “Let’s get out of here,” he says after a few silent seconds. I look up and give him a smile, hoping that it looks a hell of a lot braver than I feel. Inside I feel like I might puke.

“You think I could have a second with my family?”

My head shoots up at the coldness I hadn’t anticipated in Maverick’s voice. He’s not focused on me, though, instead looking at his brother with a hard expression and one brow raised upward.

“Mav!” Quinn gasps and he moves his attention from his brother to her.

“Sorry, Quinn, but I’m thinkin’ that Clay’s lady friend would understand that this should be a moment for our family and give us time alone.”

“I’ll just—”

“Don’t you dare finish that sentence, sugar,” Clay all but spits through clenched teeth and drops his arm to take a step forward. “You’ve got something to say, Mav, then say it.”

“Nothing to say, Clayton, I just think it would be nice for your girlfriend to give us some space.”

“My girlfriend,” he parrots sarcastically, his deep voice vibrating in anger.

“Mav.” Quinn attempts to butt in, but stops when Maverick leaves her side and turns to stalk out of the church. I should find it comical that he obviously didn’t recognize me, or hell, maybe he did and he’s just picking up where he left off ten years ago in the middle of the dark woods. I take a deep breath. “It’s okay. He’s right. Y’all need some time as a family. I’ll head over to the PieHole and start settin’ up for tonight.”

Quinn brushes a tear from her cheek and just shakes her head. I look at Clay to see him staring in the direction that his brother just left.

“You’re family,” he finally says, not looking in my direction.

“Clay, really, it’s okay. It’s been a long time since y’all were back together and I don’t need to be there for that reunion. It sucks that it takes all of this to finally bring him home, but he’s here and y’all need to make up for a lot of time lost.”

“Shut up, Leighton.”

“Don’t, Clay.”

“Don’t what? You’ve got every right to be here. You’re just as much a part of our family as he is. Hell, maybe even more so than he is at this point. So just shut up, come with us, and ignore him.”

I shake my head, the fight instantly leaving my sails, knowing I would be arguing until the end of time if I

pressed this issue.

“I can’t believe he doesn’t even recognize you,” Quinn whispers.

Michel’s Review

I have been reading Harper Sloan since she first became a published author.  I fell head over heels for her hot alpha men with a taste for danger. I wondered how she would transition from the alpha security world to the rodeo and ranch.  Could her cowboys hold up to those bad#ss security guys or would they stay on the range?  OMG… buy me some boots and send me to the ranch.  Harper has delivered more than the typical cowboy, she has delivered a swoon worthy, tortured, alpha cowboy that will take the bull by the horns and bend them around your heart.

Maverick Davis left home at a young age, chasing his dreams of becoming a rodeo star and running from his demons on the ranch.  He was a boy escaping his past and is now a man grabbing onto his future.  Ten years later he’s returning home a broken man with the potential of becoming the man he was meant to be. First he will have to mend all the bridges he burned as he rode out of town.  One of those bridges is Leighton James, the girl who loved him unconditionally.  He turned his back on her love only to realize ten years later that her love is the only thing that matters.  Time has moved on and things never say the same. Leighton is no longer the naive and innocent girl he left behind.  She’s a woman to be reckoned with.  A woman with a heart worth winning.  Maverick will do anything to make up for the past and win her heart.

Needless to say their relationship is very complicated.  They will both travel an emotional road before their passion for one another sets the pages on fire.

Harper Sloan wrote a beautiful second chance romance that was emotionally charged.  The chemistry between Leighton and Maverick is sizzling hot and you may get scorched as you turn the pages.  I can’t wait to see what comes next in the Coming Home series by Harper Sloan!

FINN

She sits quietly as I eat, and shakes her head when I offer her a sandwich section. Because I’m hungry, and because I don’t like the idea of her having to wait for me to eat, I wolf down my food. The brownie follows with a few, quick bites.

Wiping my hands on a napkin, I set the plate and empty can on a side table, and then let out a contented sigh. “Thanks. I needed that.”

Her smile is small and quick. “I should have fed you as soon as you got here.”

“I’m good now.”

Chess braces her hands on the seat and leans forward to watch her feet as we slowly rock the swing. Silence descends, thick and awkward, and for the first time in her presence, I’m at a loss for words.

I don’t know this girl. Not really, and yet I’ve inserted myself into her life with a determination I usually reserve for winning games. Except I have no endgame here. I told her I want to be friends. But how does that work for us?

Our friends and lives couldn’t be any more different. Parties for me are self-congratulatory events, filled with people whose one focus seems to be bolstering my ego, followed by me searching for a quick hookup. And my friends are all part of football in some way. We talk football or sports. It’s a narrow focus life, but it’s my comfort zone. That chafes too, knowing I live a life that seems wild and free to outsiders but is actually small and structured on the inside.

The silence has stretched too long. I should go. But I don’t move. If I go, I know it will be the end of whatever this is. Embarrassment will have me avoiding seeking her out again. Likely, she’ll do the same. And that will be that.

The knowledge sits like a stone on my chest.

“I’m sorry about my friends,” Chess says. “They can be uncomfortably brazen.”

“So can mine.” I shrug. “Your friends are…fun.”

Her lips pull tight. “They can be. But they were definitely giving me—and by extension—you shit tonight.” She bites her bottom lip. “I don’t think they know what to make of you.”

“So I wasn’t imagining things.”

“’Fraid not.”

The novel sensation of being a fish tossed into the wrong pond grows. I’ve taken away Chess’s fun by coming here, and I’m sorry for it.

“I shouldn’t have asked you to come here,” Chess says in a low voice.

She’s only echoing my thoughts but the stone sitting on my chest pushes harder against my ribs.

Chess makes a small sound, as if she’s trying to laugh but can’t. “Parties suck when you arrive halfway through and don’t know anyone.”

“I know you,” I point out quietly.

She turns and the porch light illuminates her face. Green eyes met mine and hold, as a slow, true smile curls over her cherry lips. Something inside of me shifts and slides. I want to kiss Chester Copper. Haul her onto my lap and make out with her like we’re teenagers hiding out at our parents’ party. But that’s not what she invited me here for.

“I wanted to see you,” she confesses in that husky morning voice that goes straight to my cock. She turns away and stares out into the darkness. “It’s weird, you know? But hanging out with you was so unexpected it kind of felt like I imagined the whole thing.”

I know exactly what she means. My hand settles next to hers, close enough that our pinkies touch. That small point of contact sparks along my skin, makes me want to move closer. I hold steady because I don’t trust myself not to act. “I wanted to see you too,” I tell her. “It’s been a long fucking day.”

I hadn’t planned to admit that, but it feels good to tell her.

Chess eases back against the seat and then curls her fingers over mine with a light squeeze. The unexpected touch holds all my attention. It’s nothing more than a simple offer of comfort, and here I am twitching in my seat as if she’d cupped my dick instead. I’m in so much trouble here because this woman is getting to me in ways I don’t know how to navigate. But I don’t pull away. Not one fucking chance of that.

Chess speaks, pulling me attention back to our conversation. “So tell me about it.”

I can’t remember the last time anyone asked me to tell them about my day. Likely, no one ever has.

So I do. And with every word that leaves my mouth, a little bit more of my stress eases. No, I don’t yet truly know Chess. And yes, our lives are different. But there’s no way I’m ending this. Because when it’s just her and me, everything else falls away. I’m not going to let myself forget that again.

Michel’s Review

Superstar quarterback Finn Mannus was not thrilled to be posing nude for the beefcake charity calendar.  He knows this is part of his job and he accepts it even though he hates everything about it.  He’s prepared for the worst, expecting someone different than the beautiful photographer Chester Copper.  What starts out as a confrontational photo session turns into to an eye opening experience.  Chess is more than a pretty face behind the camera.  She has no expectations or pre conceived ideas of who Finn Mannus is off the field. He wants to get to know her better.  He wants her to get to know the man he really is underneath his superstar status.  There’s more to him than a beautiful, talented quarterback leading his team.  He’s a man with real imperfections, an unpolished personality, and a really dirty mind.  He’s never experienced a real relationship with a woman whether it be romantic or friendly.  He wants more.  He wants Chess to see he’s more.

What begins as a snarky and somewhat combative relationship turns into a beautiful friendship that slowly leads to the real kind of love they were both looking for.  Friendship is easy, romance takes work, and happily ever after takes commitment.  Both Finn and Chess are in for the long haul and they are both going to win in the game of life.

Once again Kristen Callihan has delivered an entertaining and emotional story that keeps the readers connected to the main characters and to the series.  I absolutely loved this book.

Author: JA Huss
Genre: Dark Erotic Suspense
Release Date: April 12, 2017
Blurb
I lived in the dark for three years. My whole world revolved
around the whims and happiness of three men. It was just a trip into the
forbidden. A way out of a bad situation and forward into nothingness.
Quin, with his easy smile and charming good looks. He was
always there for me… Until he wasn’t.
Smith, and his dispassionate attention. He was never there
for me and he never regretted it.
Bric, the one who listened, but only to himself.
Self-absorbed, self-obsessed, and self-serving. He was never the one I wanted.
And now he might be the only one I have left.
It was good while it lasted, I guess. But it could’ve been
so much more. It could’ve been so much better.
And that’s why I’m turning back.

“So then
what happened?” Bric asks.
We’re
sitting at our booth in the White Room. Before I left, I’d sit in the middle of
the bench, Quin would sit across from me in a chair, and Bric would sit to my
left.
Bric is
still to my left, Quin isn’t here yet—if he’s coming at all—and Adley is in her
baby seat on my right.
Everything
is familiar—but off.
“Then he
went to bed.”
“What’d you
do?”
“I sat
there on the couch for a while trying to figure out what happened.”
“What did
you come up with?” Bric is looking very intently at me. Like everything I’m
saying is critically important.
“He hate-fucked
me, that’s what I came up with, Bric!”
“Rochelle,”
Bric says, throwing me one of those Don’t overreact looks.
“I’m
serious. There’s no other explanation for it. He hate-fucked me. Revenge fuck.
Whatever you want to call it. That’s what happened last night.” I sigh and try
not to feel depressed and sad. “And then this morning I got out of bed to go
check on Adley when she woke up, and when I came back, he was gone.”
“Gone?”
Bric asks. “Where’d he go?”
“Just
left,” I say. “I texted him. Asked if he’d be here for breakfast. And he never
texted back.”
“He’s just
mad,” Bric says.
“I know.” I
huff. “He told me that last night too. He spelled it out very clearly. He was
worried about me. Sad about my leaving. But then when I came back—”
“Now he’s
just angry.”
“Right.”
“It’s a
pretty typical reaction,” Bric says.
“I realize
that. Which is why I’m not going to make a big deal about this. But I don’t
know if this is going to work, Bric. He might not want me. He might just want
to hurt me. Exactly the way I hurt him.”
“No,” Bric
says, like I’m being ridiculous.
“I’m not
being ridiculous,” I say. “Maybe he’s not out to hurt me. But he’s doing
something, Bric. He’s playing a game, but I’m pretty sure we’re not all playing
the same game.”
“He’s mad,
Rochelle. You have to expect that. He’s gonna come around.”
“What does
that mean? Come around? Do you really think he’s gonna fall back in love with
me the way he was? Because I don’t. I think he’s here for us. Me, you, and him together. And that’s all.”
Bric rubs
his hand across his scratchy jaw as he thinks this over, so I check on Adley.
She fell asleep in the car on the way over here and hasn’t woken up yet. Bric
is still thinking.
“I don’t
want an us, Bric.”
He looks me
in the eye and says. “I do. But I get it. And I’m fine with you and Quin
getting your little happy ending. But I’m telling you, Rochelle, he’s just
trying to protect himself right now and the best way to let him work that out
and ensure you two get back together is to have an us.”
“He said he
doesn’t trust me.”
“He has a
good reason,” Bric counters.
“I know
that,” I say, starting to get angry. “I understand that. But the whole point of
us doing this… game… or whatever it is, was so that you can help me figure this
out. I want him, Bric. You’re supposed to help me.”
But as soon
as the words come out of my mouth I realize how stupid that is. I trust no one
and I have very good reasons for that. I’ve learned over the course of my life
that people are selfish. People are out for themselves. People are liars. I
have a lot of experience in being lied to.
Elias
Bricman definitely fits all those assumptions I have about people. And then
some.

Michel’s Review

Turning Back by J. A. Huss is more than an erotic ménage novel. It’s a novel that contains many different things that lead the characters to emotional self-discoveries, self worth, healthy relationships, and romance. Yes, a happily ever after filled with love and romance. First the game has to be played until the very end and each player has to make moves as a team as well as an individual player. The stakes are high and hearts are on the line. Love is the grand prize.

Before opening this novel, it is imperative to read the first novel, Taking Turns. This book is the next level of the game that is already in play.

The Game is back on even though the rules and the players have changed. Rochelle has returned after disappearing without a trace for over a year. Even though she had one brief contact with one of the players after she disappeared, her reasons for leaving are not what the other players assume were her motivations. She’s back in town and the game is on. This time there is more at stake than sexual gratification where everyone wins until the game no longer satisfies their needs. This time she is putting her life on the line, she’s surrendering her heart, and she’s playing for keeps. She wants to rectify her mistakes and make a permanent life. But the rules have changed, she no longer has only herself to worry about. One of the players has left the game but is still very much in control of the outcome. One of the other players has changed his spots so to speak and is showing a more personable and human side he’s hidden away. The final player, the one she wants heart and soul, has also changed the rules. He is no longer the same easy going , fun loving man she fell in love with. He’s an angry man bent on revenge and punishment, all in the name of the game. She is dealing with a game of control and sexual fulfillment, she is in a dangerous game being ruled by emotions, fears, and extreme matters of the heart. A game she’s willing to surrender to in order to win the heart of the man she loves. She will stoop low and change her standards. She will do anything for his love.

J.A. Huss brought the Turning series to another level. In the first book, Taking Turns, the readers were introduced to the game and the players. We were given a clear understanding of how the game works but not the whys as how the game was created in the first place. We were introduced to all the players but really only got to know one of those players intimately. In the second book, Turning Back, not only does the reader get the answers to the whys of it all, the reader also gets to know the other two players of the game. We also get acquainted with the fourth original player, the woman who is the key player, the player who determines the outcome of this new game. J. A. Huss gives the reader an in depth look into the psyche of each of the players while allowing them to change and evolve as the game progresses. The game becomes an emotional rollercoaster with unexpected dips and turns She made readers sympathetic with each of the men, wanting each of them to win the game.

I don’t read very many ménage romances any more. I got tired of reading the same type of story where the sex propelled the plot. When J. A Huss writes a book the reader knows they are going to get a lot more than steamy, red hot sex scenes. We know J. A. Huss digs deep, weaves an unpredictable tail, delivers quite a few surprises and mind blowers, while keeping the readers satisfied with a true romance. This series has been quite consuming and I can’t wait to see what happens next in the game. His Turn is coming soon.

“I wanted to talk to you a bit more about what happened between us online,” he said, his mouth a serious straight line. “How I came to use my brother’s profile.”
Ugh. “I’m pretty sure I found out everything I needed to know last night.”
“I didn’t mean to lie to you, Alex.”
“Once is a mistake.” I crossed my legs, kicking my black leather bootie back and forth. So I was a little aggravated. Sue me. “Months’ worth of e-mails is not. You could have introduced yourself to me, Joe, told me who you really were. You chose not to. Christ, no wonder you kept putting off meeting. I should have known something was wrong.”
“You’re right. I shouldn’t try to sell you excuses.” A big sigh from my “friend.” “Truth is, I’m not used to being the bad guy. Usually I’m the one cleaning up my brother’s messes.”
“Lucky me.”

Michel’s Review

The crew at the Dive Bar is back and the drama is at an all time high. With Eric and Nell’s upcoming parenthood, nobody thought that older brother Joe Collins would one up one in the drama department.  He’s too solid, too dependable, easy going, and always lending a helping hand.  Joe is the exact opposite of his baby brother, Eric.  When an unknown woman shows up ready to pick up a relationship with Eric, all hell breaks loose in the Dive Bar.  It seems Joe has been up to something behind the scenes, he has been involved in computer dating under the alias of his brother Eric.  The truth has come out and the drama has been diverted to Joe.

The Dive Bar crew is like family. They are nosy, meddling, and will not stay out of each other’s business.  Joe not only has to right his wrong, he also has to deal with the romantic meddling, the pissed off brother, and the upcoming addition to the family, while trying to keep his own family happy and stable.  Where does that leave him.  Maybe what he did wasn’t so wrong after all.  Maybe it’s time he does something for himself and learns to put his needs before everyone else.  First he has to right the wrong, build a real relationship with Alex, and reach for more.

Alex has always held the world at bay.  She secludes herself away from the world.  She has a thriving business that she operates from home.  She doesn’t do relationships and sees nothing wrong with casual sex.  She has one friend and one friend only.  When she meets Eric Collins on a dating website, she begins to rethink her views on relationships.  For the first time she wants to try for something more.  When Eric disappears from the cyber world, she makes the decision to go Coeur d’Alene and find Eric.  In her heart she knows he is worth her effort.  What she finds is something else altogether.  Eric is not the man she thought he was, in fact he’s not the same man at all.  What she encounters is another man who is so much more than she ever expected. First she will have to get over the fact that Joe Collins is a liar.  Once she gets past that, she’s going to find there’s more to Joe than meets the eye.  She is also going to find there is more to herself than she has ever allowed herself to experience.

The YES man meets the NO woman.  Both are stuck in a life of their own makings.  It’s time to shake things up, make changes in their lives, and learn from one another.  A little hot sex along the way won’t hurt either.  Finding love… totally unexpected but totally worth all the effort.

Once again Kylie Scott has floored me with her fun, quirky characters. It’s great to read a romance but it’s even better when there’s a cast of characters make the book even more delightful.  I am addicted to Kylie Scott’s books and can’t wait for Eric to get his day of reckoning in the next Dive Bar Book.

Ain’t He Precious

By Juliette Poe ( aka Sawyer Bennett )

The Sex And Sweet Tea Series – Book 1

Release Date: April 11, 2017

Ain't-He-Precious-FOR WEB-newWelcome to Whynot, North Carolina, population 3,872. It has one stoplight, one bar, and the one-and-only Trixie Mancinkus.

Eleven years ago, Trixie graduated Harvard Law, turned down a job offer from one of the most prestigious law firms in Boston, and headed home to Whynot to open her own firm. Not only did she leave behind the big city, but she also left her boyfriend of three years. And just so we’re clear… that would be me.

So what am I doing in Whynot at this very moment? It seems Trixie needs help with a legal case and for some insane reason, she called on me for assistance. I’ve been in town for five minutes, and I’m every bit as out of place as I feel. Trixie is all sweet, southern curves to my tailored suits and high-priced haircuts. It’s a culture clash of north versus south and about the only thing we have in common is our physical attraction to each other.

But I have a new motto since coming to Whynot: When life hands you lemons, all you need is a little sex and sweet tea to make things better.

Over lettuce wraps, I let her vent more about her brother but I only let this go on during the appetizer. Once our entrees arrive, I insist we change the subject. She’s not calming down, only getting more worked up, and diversion has always worked best with Trixie.

“Raleigh seems to be a nice town,” I say conversationally in an effort to get her relaxed.

She rolls her eyes at me because as much as I know how to “handle” her when her temper is spiked, she recognizes the fact that I am indeed handling her. Apparently, she finds it adorable. She cuts a piece of her orange chicken and gives in to my attempt to switch the conversation. “It really is. It’s spread out so you don’t have that overwhelming big-city feel, but you have all the luxuries a big city affords like museums, professional sports, fine dining, etcetera.”

“Overwhelming is an interesting choice of words,” I observe. “You didn’t feel that way in Boston, did you?”

I’m surprised when her cheeks turn a bit red. Her voice is reluctant when she admits, “Yeah… it was a bit too much for me.”

My mouth hangs open as I stare at her. How could I not know that? We had made plans to live in Boston, and there was a time when she was completely on board.

“I’m sorry,” she blurts out. “I know what you’re thinking… Why would I have even considered all those plans we’d made if I felt that way?”

“Got to admit… this is a bit surprising to hear.”

Trixie puts her fork down and levels her gaze on me. “Ry… I loved you. And I loved Cambridge. It was small and well… comfortable. It wasn’t small like Whynot, but it reminded me of home a bit. But honestly, I was only considering staying there in Boston because of you. I didn’t like it at all. Too many people. Too much concrete and glass. Too much noise. It’s just not me.”

“You should have said something a lot earlier than you did,” I reprimand her quietly. I can’t help feeling a bit angry over this revelation, because who knows what would have happened had we had some honest discussions about where we wanted to go that could suit both of us.

“Would it have changed anything?” she asks me bluntly. “You were set on Boston. You wanted that job at Hayes Lockamy. You worked your ass off at Harvard and the clerkships to get that job offer. It was everything to you.”

“It wasn’t everything,” I tell her sharply.

“Maybe not,” she retorts. “But it clearly meant more than me. As I recall, I asked you to come to Whynot to practice, and I got a resounding ‘no’ to that offer.”

“You sprung that on me at literally the last minute, Trixie,” I say angrily. “After I’d accepted the job offer at Hayes Lockamy. You didn’t give me any time to process any of it.”

“And you didn’t bother to try to talk me into staying,” she snaps.

“Seriously, Trix,” I say in exasperation. “I’ve been here two days, and I’ve watched you in your element. You were born to live here. This is where you’re supposed to be. Being a small-town lawyer in Whynot surrounded by your close-knit, if not nutty, family is what brings you joy. Are you seriously trying to infer that you would have left all of this to stay in Boston with me if I’d just tried to talk you into staying?”

“No, what I’m saying,” she sneers at me as she leans across the table but I don’t miss the light sheen of tears in her eyes, “is that you and I clearly weren’t meant to be, and we’re both better off for making the choices we did.”

Now that hits me hard, right in the middle of my chest, and I have to resist the urge to rub my knuckles over my breastbone to ease the pain.

Trixie merely pushes up from her chair, grabs her purse, and practically runs out of the restaurant.

“Shit,” I mutter as I stand up. I grab my wallet, take out enough money to cover the meal and tip, and toss it down on the table.

I jet out of the restaurant, scan the area, and see Trixie walking quickly toward her car. I wouldn’t put it past her to jump in it and drive off without me, so I break into a fast trot to catch up with her. My hand latches onto her elbow just as she reaches her car, and I spin her to face me.

“What the hell, Trix?” I ask her with frustration, anger, and a little bit of self-loathing that I let the conversation get so out of hand. I’ve always been the mild-mannered one between the two of us, knowing how to deftly control and sidestep her temper so it doesn’t get the better of her.

Or me.

I brace, expect her to rail and rant some more. Instead, she launches herself right at me, making a tiny hop to throw her arms around my neck. Her mouth comes to mine hard as one of her hands grips into my hair, fisting it tight.

Jesus Christ… stars wink in my vision at the feel of her mouth on mine, so long forgotten and yet completely familiar all at once. I don’t think—just act. My arms band around her tight, hauling her body to mine. I push her back into the side of her car, tilt my head, and I kiss her back with every bit of longing and regret that she seems to be mutually feeling in this moment.

Michel’s Review

What a treat… Sawyer Bennett has an alter-ego that is sugar and a lot of spice.  Writing as Juliette Poe, she has released Ain’t He Precious, the first book in the Sex And Sweet Tea series.  This is a charming second chance, small town storybook romance will give the reader a delightful and romantic reading experience.  It’s the perfect book to sit back, relax,  and enjoy.

Trixie and Ryland were college sweethearts at Harvard.  Both are studying law and have big plans for their futures.  Big plans have a way of changing when reality sets in.  Trixie had a change of heart and wants to move back home to the small town of Whynot. Ryland is not the small town kind of guy nor is he ready to let go of his dreams of working in a big law firm.  They both walk away from their relationship heartbroken.  Trixie returns home and the small town life she left behind.  Ryland moves onto Boston and follows his dreams of being a high profile lawyer.

Fast forward eleven years later.  Trixie has a high profile case that needs more than her experience can provide.  She asks Ryland to come to Whynot to help with the case. When he readily agrees, it opens the doors for their second chance of love and happiness.  The kind only they can give one another.

Once again Trixie and Ryland will have choices.  Will they choose each other or will they choose their careers and family?

I loved everything about this book.  Both the characters, Trixie and Ryland were strong individuals without being overbearing or annoying.  They both had charming personalities. Their passion for one another and strong abiding love was unquestionable.  Their story being set in a small town with it’s quirky population made this story all the more charming.

I highly recommend reading Ain’t He Precious by Juliette Poe.  Sawyer’s alter ego is just as fantastic as her true self.  Loved this book!
