DESPERATE DOMINATION, the third book in this series, picks up right where the second left off. And, oh, how I had been waiting for this one, because my hair was standing on end at the end of Book 2, just waiting to see what Jackson Hawke had up his sleeve. And, in true Lili Valente fashion, she picked right back up with this mind-blower of a story and ran with it.

Just when it seems that Hannah and Jackson have reached a turning point in their twisted but crazily sexy and oddly romantic relationship, all bets are off. With one scene, Lili turns the mood of the story completely around, keeping me guessing with all of the shifts in action. Has Jackson realized who Hannah is? Is Hannah safe from Jackson? What will be the outcome for the two of them?

Darkness made the light shine brighter, pain made pleasure that much sweeter, and what was the point of angels if not to save beautiful devils like Jackson Hawke?

Jackson believes that he is beyond redemption, that nothing, not even Hannah’s love, can change the man that he has become. Hannah, unwilling to write him off, trusts him with everything that she is, all of her deepest secrets. But when Jackson just can’t forget about the past, a chain of events are set in motion that neither one could anticipate

And, there it is, THE END. I was not believing that Lili could do this again. This series is Cliffhanger Central, but I am not done, not nearly so. This book, like the rest of the series, is 5+ crazy, twisted, star-crossed, redemptive stars, and I cannot wait for DIVINE DOMINATION to answer all of my questions.

Love and hate were opposite sides of the same coin and shared far more similarities than differences. They both came from the heart and the heart could be reasoned with, appealed to, even changed from time to time. The heart knew how to forgive, and as long as forgiveness was a possibility, hope was never beyond reach.

“I’d like to hire you to paint my portrait.”

Harlow almost bounced out of her seat, but caught herself with a single thought. Can’t appear too hasty. “Okay,” she said, playing with the edge of a piece of paper. “If you insist. And if the price is right.” She’d drawn countless images of Beck, but the thought of painting him to scale and seeing him in full color intoxicated her. She could play with different shades of gold, brown and bronze, and even a wealth of greens to get the emerald flecks hidden so deeply in his eyes just right.

Maybe Kimberly had nailed it. Maybe Harlow had stared at Beck for reasons that had nothing to do with the job.

This was punishment for daring to impede his sex life, wasn’t it? “I’ve never actually painted or even drawn what you’re suggesting, and I’m not sure I have the skill.” Or if she would survive.

“I have complete faith in your ability. And as an artist, a professional, I’ll expect you to view me strictly through objective eyes. You can do that, can’t you?”

“Of course,” she said. She could absolutely, one hundred percent view him through objective eyes…if he wore a cloak of invisibility. But even then it would be iffy. “Why do you want a nude?” she demanded, hoping to shame him into retracting his request.

“Maybe I enjoy the thought of disrobing for you.” His voice had gone low and husky, a caress of unfettered temptation, making her shiver. “Maybe I like the thought of your eyes on my bare skin and your hands forming the shapes of my body.”

She gulped. Having only ever dealt with boys, never with men, she had no idea how to respond to so blatant a statement.

“Or,” he said, his voice returning to its normal fun, flirty tone. “Maybe I’m narcissistic and want to immortalize every inch of myself. How is one to know?”

How indeed. “When would you like to start?”

“Tonight.”

I’m going to hate myself for reminding him of this, but… “What about your date? I can’t—won’t—hurt Kimberly.”

“I think we both know she was about to cancel on me. Which makes me wonder what the two of you were discussing.”

Shifting uncomfortably, she said, “I will never betray a confidence.”

“I could change your mind, but I won’t. I admire your mindset.” His gaze dropped to the pulse fluttering in her neck. “I’ll arrive at seven, and I’ll bring dinner.”

“Yes. I’d like that.” A lot. And it wasn’t the thought of food that made her heart race, but the thought of having him in her space. Alone…naked. Within reach.

She sucked in a breath. Oh…crap. The worst had happened, hadn’t it?

Kimberly had figured it out, but Harlow had done her best to deny it until the truth practically vibrated in her bones. How had she ever fooled herself into thinking she could fall for West…when she’d already fallen for Beck?

“What’s wrong, dove?” he asked gently. He came around the desk and sat at the edge, turning her chair to trap her between his legs. “You were twinkles one moment, sullen the next.”

He always read her so well, while she always struggled to make sense of his moods. Life wasn’t fair. “It’s nothing I want to discuss right now,” she said, refusing to lie to him. But she had to talk to someone about this.

Who? She had no confidants, and any secrets she revealed to others could be used as a weapon against her. A game of “humiliate Harlow for sport.”

“What will it take to get you to trust me, hmm?”

“No.” If she told him, she’d have to show him. If she showed him, he’d never want her again. And right now he wanted her. He had to. The way he was looking at her…

He leaned down until his nose almost brushed against hers. “One day, Harlow, you’ll open up to me.”

“One day,” she whispered. “Maybe. But probably not.”

He cupped her nape, the heat of him making her gasp. “Definitely. And in more ways than one. I’ll make sure of it.”

The Hotter You Burn by Gena Showalter is the second book in the sizzling hot contempory series, The Original Heartbreakers. These bad boys are going to burn up the pages and smolder your heart.

Beck Ockley is the womanizer of their family. He goes through women like water. His only rules are one night only and no repeats. He’s not interested in relationships. He just wants to have a little fun. His womanizing ways are a deflection of what is really below the surface of Beck Ockley. Being a product of the foster care system has left a negative effect on his heart. He has a jaded view of love. When he catches Harlow Glass, the town pariah, he is in for a change of heart. Can he handle it?

Harlow Glass is the true definition of “mean girl”. Her heartless antics and cruel behaviors in her youth have made her the town pariah. She was truly a horrible person, that is until something happened when she was a teenager. Since that time she has become a recluse. She withdrew from high school and was not seen again by the townsfolk. In the past ten years her mother has died, she lost her beloved home, and has become a homeless recluse. This book was loaded with angst and passion. I absolutely loved Harlow. She owned her past and never tried to flinch away from it. Beck was a bit wishy washy when it came to matters of the heart but after what he went through as a child it was valid.

I love this series and am looking forward to the final book. These heartbreakers have stolen my heart.

Thoughts of tomorrow’s encounter should have filled her head too full to dwell on the pretty cowboy splashing around in the water below, but her brain had other ideas. Preferably Canyon’s, the way it had been last night. It was all sorts of wrong, probably akin to a nurse lusting after her patient. She’d been sent here to help this man, not think about how good he looked in a swimsuit. She was ashamed of herself, but not so ashamed that she could keep her eyes from drifting from the romance novel she’d purchased last night to where Canyon frolicked in the water. Romance had clearly been a bad choice. She should have brought poor Grace’s well-worn copy of The Bell Jar and spent an hour inside the mind of a depressed genius, instead. But she was tired of sad, depressing things. She didn’t want to think about being in a body her sons wouldn’t recognize or that the man she would always love like a piece of her own soul was married to someone else. She didn’t want to think about only having a week to save a good man’s life or what waited for her on the other side of this brief return to earth.

After so many months wandering the world in-between, light and weightless as a feather, coming back into a human body hurt like hell.

And so begins the story of Lily Grace Lawson and Canyon O’Donnell in EIGHT SECOND ANGEL, the follow-up novella to ROPES AND REVENGE in the Lonesome Point, Texas, series by Jessie Evans.

Lily Grace, wife of John Lawson, was killed in ROPES AND REVENGE, and, feeling that she still has unfinished business in the here and now, has been in the ‘in-between,’ unwilling to cross over. Canyon O’Donnell has suffered great loss himself, and, feeling that this world would be better without him, has decided to take matters into his own hands. It’s up to Lily Grace to show him just how precious life is.

Jessie is one of my go-to authors. I just love the way that she writes, her words, her characters, the love that she infuses into each of her stories. Jessie’s Lonesome Point, Texas, series is one of my favorites, full of strong sexy cowboys, women full of sass and strength, and tales of overcoming odds that sometimes seem impossible.

EIGHT SECOND ANGEL is a true second-chance romance, of sorts. Both Lily Grace and Canyon are living in the past, and it isn’t until the possibility of losing each other in the now arises that each are able to let go of what was and find the redemption that they seek.

This story may be one of my absolute favorites in the series. It’s full of love, loss, tears, smiles, and, yes, plenty of steamy sexy time, too. Canyon and Lily Grace touched my heart, making me want their HEA from early on. I happily recommend this book, and the whole Lonesome Point series, with 5+ ‘I’m crying, I’m smiling, life IS good and beautiful’ stars.

The authors of “Crimson Reign” and “Love, Life and Circumstance” have never been ones to shy away from digging deep to give their readers a story that pushes boundaries, makes the readers think and feel and clamor for more. Crimson Reign gave us the wickedly sexy vampire king and his angel in a paranormal world in upheavel. LLC gave us two men with a baby to care for in the South with all its prejudices. And now “Broken Oaths” gives us Ryan and Thierry, pushing the limits again with the story of a priest and a Navy Commander.

Thierry Donovan is a former Navy Commander falsely accused of treason and jailed in a super secure facility in solitary confinement. The only other people he sees are the guards who watch over him, including his friend A.J. who goes easy on the rules for the prisoner. Thierry has no outside contact until he asks for, and is sent, a priest, Father Ryan Flynn. Their connection is instant, but like anyone else whose life is tied up in the rules and restrictions of their chosen profession or current fall from grace, both try to deny what they feel.

We learn of their pasts right away. The opening chapters tell us why these men chose the path they did, and give us a glimpse of the obstacles they faced along the way. Thierry’s career and life have been destroyed by his imprisonment. Father Flynn’s profession is an effort to get rid of the sinner label he brought down on himself because of his and his foster brother’s teenage exploration of their growing attraction. Both hide behind these shields they use so effectively – for a while. Thrown together in the priest and penitent roles, they soon acknowledge that there is something more between them as they work to bring justice to Thierry and bring down the one who used him as a scapegoat in a treasonous plot. And tying these two couples together is the intrigue, a plot very carefully constructed that makes the reader anxious to find out just exactly how the whole thing will be revealed. It builds like the walls of Thierry’s prison cell, brick by brick. And with four strong-willed characters, there is no doubt they will figure it out.

Unfortunately, the villains were the one area that let me down. Characterization and angst is definitely these authors’ strong suit and in this book the whole mystery was right up there with it. The plot was complex and excellently crafted, with all the characters’ actions and reactions to each other and to their situation adding to the edge of the seat reading experience. Until one particular scene that made me stop and go “Really?” I just didn’t buy it. With that one scene the villains, who up until then were wonderfully evil, became caricatures of themselves. That one scene weakened the intrigue, pushing it into campiness instead of suspense.
Everyday struggles for love, for recognition, for redemption made this book a winner, overcoming the problem with the villains. The love stories of Ryan and Thierry and of Orrin and Jay are well written and very realistic. They struggle with their feelings, each one questioning his worth, his actions, his heart. As they work through all the machinations of being together, we as readers realize right along with them that outer trappings don’t matter. It’s what’s in the heart that rules.

Wow…Wow…Wow ! Uncharted by Claudia Burgoa took me by complete surprised. I was captivated, mesmerized, and a hostage of this book. I could not put it down. I loved every moment of this book. It was a powerful story of two young people’s life journey from being naive college freshmen to cynical adults that had experienced too much and not enough along the way. They both have went from searching for rainbows and chasing unicorns to dancing in the darkest storm waiting for lightening to strike. The only thing that has kept them semi glued together is their families. For one it was their curse in life. For the other it was their only anchor in turbulent times. Their precious memory of their young love wasn’t enough to hold onto hope. Their paths will cross once again and both of these people will find a new meaning to love, life , and happiness. It’s not what they dreamed of or what they thought it should be. Their new path was exactly what they needed. This time around they have life experience to draw upon and new dreams to follow.

This book was an amazing journey. After I finished this book I had to go and buy the first two books in the series. The family dynamics in this series is astounding. The triplets themselves are intriguing. They have their own special way of communicating with each other. They have their own language. They are an integral part of each other. Watching these three grow and learn to become individuals on their own paths has been an incredible journey. Their famous parents are one of the most stable, loving, supportive, as well as protective role models that truly guided their children and taught them the true meaning of family. It was refreshing to see a stable home life / family life in an unusual environment. Their lives are very complicated and in many ways deceptive.They never took the the easy road and met the road blocks head on. How they handled their lives and family issues was admirable.

Claudia Burgoa is an extremely talented writer. She delivered an emotional story that will touch any reader that opens her books.

Uncharted can be read as a stand alone novel. I started out with this book but became so mesmerized by this family that I had to go back and read the first two books. It has been a powerful reading experience.

I can’t wait for Mathew’s book, titled Uncut.

In The Fast Lane by Audra North was a fun book. I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet romance.

Kerri Hart is working in man’s world. She is the only rookie driver that is female. Her family is a legacy in the racing world but their team is in trouble financially. When Colt Hardware tries to buy into sponsorship for the racing team she flat out refuses because of their conditions. She is perceived by the media and fans as a hot headed woman. It is farther from the truth. She has ethics that she lives by. Being the only woman in her field puts her in the spotlight and her behavior is blown out of proportion.

When Ranger Colt shows up and states that he now owns Hart Racing, Kerri is beyond angry. She is upset with her brother for selling out. She is upset that Ranger Colt is too sexy for his own good. She is upset that she has to pose as his finance in order to keep her reputation clean. What she is most upset about is falling for the sexy new owner. Ranger Colt has her heart racing and panties melting.

Ranger Colt looked upon his promotion as a road block. He had no interest in turning Hart Racing into a profitable business. He is only doing it to prove to his father that he is better than him. He has an ax to grind. If it takes turning Hart Racing around, he will do it. What he didn’t count on was losing his heart to the beautiful, dynamic driver on his team. Kerri is making his head spin and heart beat faster.

Molly had reached the bottom step when she glanced up and saw Deacon leaning against her car.

It took every bit of resolve not to break into a run.

When she reached him, he pulled her into his arms and softly kissed her lips. “Hey.”

“Hey. How’d you know where I was?”

“Only so many churches in this town, babe.” His gaze searched hers. “You okay?”

Brandi’s mouth dropped open. “Are you threatening me?”

“Not me. Molly. The woman’s got a mean right hook. And I oughta know, since she learned how to throw a punch from me.”

Molly sent Deacon a look of adoration. “Of course I’d never hit someone out of anger.” Then she looked at Brandi. “Besides, if I used my fists on you every time you insulted me, you’d be black-and-blue from head to toe.”

Without another word, Deacon opened the passenger door for her.

Then he skirted the front end and climbed in the driver’s seat. “Keys.”

She dropped them in his hand. “Thank you.”

“For?”

“Showing up.”

Michel’s Review

Fans of the Mastered Series have been waiting for this book. Deacon and Molly have been engaging in the cat and mouse chase and verbal foreplay from the very beginning of this series. Their coming together is long over due. Their relationship is explosive and quite a surprise. Unlike the former books, their relationship does not revolve around the Dojo and the club. It stands on it’s own merits, two dynamic people coming together and blending their lives together to make a strong loving relationship.

When reader’s first met Molly she was a shy, easily intimidated kind of girl. She had enrolled in self defense classes after an attack that left her afraid of her own shadow. Rather than let the fear of her own shadow take over her life she was brave enough to do something about it. Deacon was her instructor and he was very hard on her. He wouldn’t allow her to withdraw or quit. As the series grew so did Molly. Throughout the books we watched her grow and become a strong confident woman.

Throughout the series Deacon has been a bit of a mystery. He has secrets that he holds close to his chest. Although he is a champion amateur MMA fighter about to go into the pro circuit, he is still a part of the Dojo. His fighting career is taking on a new path. Embarking on a new relationship could hinder his career. He has come to the realization that he wants Molly more than he wants the career title.

These two will muddle through their relationship. Both have family histories that are ugly. Neither one has been in a committed relationship so they are both clueless. Molly has romantic notions but at the same time wants her independence and individuality. Deacon is pure alpha male and assumes Molly knows where his head is at. He has problems, like most men, communicating and expressing his feelings. Then the conflicts with his family make their relationship all the more difficult. Add a hard driven trainer that sees their relationship as a road block, the Dojo politics, meddling friends, and a championship fight and it looks as if they are doomed. Deacon has the fight of his life on his hands .He is fighting for his heart. Molly has to be confident enough to take Deacon’s hand and fight for their relationship.

I loved watching these characters grow as individuals and as a couple. They didn’t need the kink that we have experienced in the prior books of this series. Their passion for one another is so hot it will burn the house down. Together they are unbeatable.

I am looking forward to more books in this series. There are so many dynamic secondary characters that are screaming for Lorelei James attention. They want their stories told.

I highly recommend reading the entire Mastered series. It is fantastic. Caged is another outstanding addition to this series.

When one door closes, another one opens. I closed the door to my business for the last time in 2011, which left me with a decision. What now?
