Synopsis

From New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis…

SOMETIMES YOU CAN GO HOME AGAIN . . .
After an overseas mission goes wrong, Army Special Forces officer Jacob Kincaid knows where he must go to make things right: back home to the tiny town of Cedar Ridge, Colorado. All he needs to scrub away his painful past is fresh mountain air, a lakeside cabin, and quiet solitude. But what he discovers is a gorgeous woman living on a boat at his dock.
Sophie Marren has nowhere else to go. She’s broke, intermittently seasick, and fighting a serious attraction to the brooding, dishy, I’m-too-sexy-for-myself guy who’s now claiming her dock. Something about Jacob’s dark intensity makes her want to tease-and tempt-him beyond measure. Neither one wants to give any ground . . . until they realize the only true home they have is with each other.

Tracey’s Review

“I’ve never seen you look at anyone like that before…You look at her like she’s…”
He slid her a look. “What?”
“Like she’s a double-fudge brownie, warm from the oven.”
“You’re wrong.” He wasn’t looking at her like she was a double-fudge brownie. She was more important than dessert. She was a main course, the base of the food chain.
And hell.
He hadn’t seen her coming.

I know that picking up a book by Jill Shalvis is like a cure for whatever is ailing me. Writing books that are funny, sweet, steamy, and with just the right number of serious moments, Jill creates stories and characters that make it easy to lose yourself in them and emerge having really enjoyed yourself.

I don’t think that there is a man in any of her books that I haven’t adored, but Jacob Kincaid is just, wow. The son of a philandering father with a penchant for making babies far and yon, Jacob and his twin brother, Hud, were blessed to have been welcomed into the patchwork Kincaid family. But Jacob never felt as though he belonged, and was bound and determined to escape their home in Cedar Ridge, CO, as soon as he was able. That decision cost him his family for nine long years, but, now that he’s back, he’s doing all that he can to mend fences and hearts, and create a home for himself with the people that he loves the most. When Jacob makes the acquaintance of Sophie Marren, he has no idea that his world is about to be rocked, in every possible way. Sophie is a firecracker, and a survivor. Recently unencumbered of her lout of an ex-husband, she’s trying to make a new life in her adopted home of Cedar Ridge. Granted, living on a boat that she hates just to infuriate said ex may not be the usual way to get started, but it does have the advantage of a) making her ex crazy, and b) catching the eye of one Jacob Kincaid.

Jacob has been through a tough nine years, and is really looking for a new start and a soft place to land. He’s used to guarding his heart, but, from the moment he lays eyes on Sophie, the walls begin to crack. And, Sophie, burned by love from way back, doesn’t want anything to do with love. Sure, Jacob lights her up like nobody’s business, but that’s as far as it goes. Until, like most best laid plans, lines begin to blur, and feelings come into play, and, well, love does what it does.

I loved the relationship between Jacob and Sophie. The stars were absolutely aligning to bring the both of them just what they needed: each other. For all of that neither of them were looking for anything emotional or long-lasting, the spark between the two of them was instantaneous and explosive.

“How do you know how hungry I am?”
The words-not to mention his voice-gave her a shiver in the very best kind of way. “How hungry are you?” she heard herself whisper.
He let five solid beats go by, during which time he just looked at her. “Frighteningly hungry,” he finally said.
Another woman promptly ran her cart into Sophie’s. “Oh, sorry!” the woman gasped, face red as she hurried off.
“You’re making quite an impression,” Sophie managed dryly.
He shook his head like he disagreed and stepped closer to her, right inside her own personal little space bubble. Now she was in his orbit and in danger of being sucked in and going up in flames.

Fight it as they might, these two are the proverbial moths to the flame for each other, and watching them work that out is fun, humorous, and downright steamy. Because, Jill Shalvis can write the darned sexy time like nobody’s business, and the scenes between Jacob and Sophie should come with a spontaneous combustion warning.

Beyond being a love story, NOBODY BUT YOU is another of Jill’s trademark stories revolving around a cast of characters that we’ve come to know and love, set in a place that we’d all like to call home. I really enjoy the small-town dynamic and close-knit feeling of the Cedar Ridge stories, and the relationship between all of the members of the Kincaid family, because, let me tell you, they are some characters. But what shines forth the most is the love that they have for each other, and the way that, at the end, they have each others’ backs completely. Watching Jacob and Sophie discover this, and find their own places, both in Cedar Ridge, and together, makes this another 5-star read for me. If you haven’t read this series, you’re missing out. Do yourself a favor, and add them to your TBR.

 Excerpt-BannerExcerpt

Only a week after, he’d stuck out his hand and introduced himself as Tom, Tom Porter, in a sort of James Bondian way that made her giggle. They had been eating dinner at that very same hotel restaurant.

Only a week after that, dinner with Tom had become the norm rather than the exception.

The week after that?

They occasionally threw lunch into the mix, either her coming to meet him at some fancy place while her mom was in physical therapy, or him bringing fabulous picnicstyle lunches to her mother’s house, where he’d proceed to charm Jill’s mom almost as thoroughly as he charmed Jill.

Five weeks into Jill’s stay in Florida, Jill had stuck around for breakfast.

In his hotel room.

And then there’d been last night.

“Okay, okay, so he’s a dreamboat,” Elena said as the car crept slowly through rush hour traffic toward Manhattan. “How’d he pop the question? Champagne? Roses? Fancy restaurant with a water view?”

“Holy crap,” Jill said with a laugh. “Were you there?”

“I know all,” Elena said, extending her hands to the side as though she were some wise sage. “Did you see it coming at all?”

“Not even a little bit,” Jill admitted.

Not even with the expensive champagne, or the two dozen roses, or the fact that the restaurant staff seemed to be going out of their way to give Jill and Tom privacy at the terrace table overlooking the ocean.

She’d simply thought it had just been a really fantastic good-bye.

Instead it had been a bit more of a be mine forever and ever.

And Jill had said yes.

She’d said yes almost the second he’d gone down on his knee, not because she’d been that sure—she’d been pretty sure . .. sort of sure—she’d said yes because in that moment, Jill had wanted what Tom Porter was offering her.

A companion. A partner. Love.

And that’s what it came down to. Jill wanted to be loved. She wanted to love.

She loved her mother, obviously. And loved the memory of her father, God rest his soul.

And though she had no siblings of her own, the Morettis had filled that gap. And with the recent addition of Luc’s girlfriend, Ava, and Anthony’s new wife, Maggie, she had some amazing girlfriends to add to the mix.

And last, but never least, there was Vincent. Her partner. In some ways her best friend, although in a way that was different from her relationship with Elena.

But as much as Vincent sometimes seemed like two parts of the same whole, he’d always held a bit of himself back from her. From everyone.

He’d made no secret of the fact that he had no intentions of getting married, ever. Any fantasies Jill had had that her partner would one day wake up and see her were long gone.

Which left her a bit.. . lonely.

She wanted someone to come home to at the end of the long day who would just be there. Who’d pour her a glass of wine, maybe rub her feet and just listen.

Tom offered Jill what nobody else had offered her… ever.

Love. Commitment. A future.

And she knew that he loved her. Fast as their relationship had developed, she could feel it. And she loved him too. At least she was pretty sure.

“Aww, you like him,” Elena said teasingly, reaching out a finger and poking the dimple in Jill’s left cheek.

“I want to be happy, El. I want the happily-ever-after with someone who wants it with me.”

She met her friend’s eyes and saw from the flash of regret on Elena’s face that El understood what Jill wasn’t saying out loud.

I can’t wait for Vin forever.

Synopsis

Dodging Trains
Sunniva Dee
Publication date: March 29th 2016
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

I was twelve when a stranger at a train station taught me the meaning of ugly. He forced himself on me and threatened to kill my family if I told.

I stayed silent and the ugliness grew.

Now, that word rolls in film clips through my mind. All I’ve done since my best friend, Keyon Arias, left town is cement how ugly I am. Ugly on the inside—deep down to my core. On the outside… I am a Vixen. I flash men a smile and make them moan out pleasure I control.

Not them. Never them.

After five years of being away, my beautiful boy has come back to town for his father’s masquerade ball. He’s different. Hard muscle supersedes the skin and bone of his once boyish frame. One thing hasn’t changed though: the murderous look in his eyes when he slaughters his opponents. In the ring, I see the bullied boy, all grown up, dominating in ways he couldn’t in high school.

He’s the mayor’s son. The rising MMA fighter. The beautiful one.

I’m not the Paislee Cain of before, not the sweet girl he once knew, the one who chased away his bullies. I’m the town slut. The dirty girl whose shame will never fade no matter how many men I use. He’d disown what I’ve become.

Because beautiful can never love ugly.

EXCERPT:

I’ve been on a one-track rail to landing Paislee in my bed since she got off the plane. Not that it’s been planned, but I convinced her that Pizza Pazza in Tampa is better than Mamma Lucia’s in Calceth. I told her about Simon during dinner, one thing led to another, and here I am unlocking the door to my duplex and letting her enter first.

She hasn’t commented on how we took my car from her hotel, how she’s basically dependent on me and my whims. But hey, I’m fucked too; it wasn’t my choice to have someone fill my head, and I didn’t ask that person to come to Florida.

We haven’t talked about tomorrow’s schedule, but I’m going to the rich dude’s house with her. He could be a total freak for all I know, so she’s not facing him alone.

“Oooh,” she whispers through a reverent puff of air like she’s never seen a cat before. Simon’s playing it up too, slinking around the corner with all the grace in the universe, stroking the doorjamb with a hip before he meanders over to us. “He’s soooo beautiful.”

“He’s just a regular old black street cat,” I say, but by the wink she shoots me, she doesn’t buy it. She read me back when too. “’Kay, fine: Simon’s awesome. Straight up the best pelt ever.”

“Pelt? You ass,” she giggles as she pets him from the top of his head and down the length of his body to his tail. Simon lifts it, happy. Any minute now, he’ll crank the volume on his purr-machine.

“Wow, he purrs loud.”

And there. For a cat, he’s being unexpectedly predictable.

“He loves the ladies,” I say, which makes her giggle more. I love to make her giggle. When she stands up again, I pull her in with one arm, fingers splayed across her spine. Firm breasts press against me, and I groan a little.

She puffs another laugh, all Simon’s fault. He’s gotten to the part of the agenda where he’s going to cramp my style. His purrs reach us from the floor, and he’s scissoring in and out between both of our legs.

“Never mind him. Look at me,” I whisper. Let my thumb and forefinger slide over her chin. The amusement recedes from her eyes when she sees that I mean business. I’m hardening. She yelps. Then she laughs out loud.

“Simon, quit it!” I say, exasperated, and bend to unhook his claws from the fabric over her knees. “I’m sorry. You see how it is now, right?
Simon’s the ass in this house. I should sell him to the highest bidder. Fifty cents flat will do. Come to think of it—I’ve got fifty cents in my pocket,” I say, kissing her down the corridor. “I could pay someone to take him. ‘Perfectly good cat with a year’s worth of free cat food.’”

Obviously, I’m digging my own grave here. There’s no hot lovemaking when your girl’s laughing so hard she’s about to pee herself.

Between studies, teaching, and advising, Sunniva has spent her entire adult life in a college environment. Most of her novels are new adult romance geared toward smart, passionate readers with a love for eclectic language and engaging their brain as well as their heart while reading.

Born in the Land of the Midnight Sun, the author spent her early twenties making the world her playground. Southern Europe: Spain, Italy, Greece–Argentina: Buenos Aires, in particular. The United States finally kept her interest, and after half a decade in Los Angeles, she now lounges in the beautiful city of Savannah.

Sometimes, Sunniva writes with a paranormal twist (Shattering Halos, Stargazer, and Cat Love). At other times, it’s contemporary (Pandora Wild Child, Leon’s Way, Adrenaline Crush, Walking Heartbreak, and Dodging Trains, coming in late March 2016).

Synopsis

Introduced in Toni Aleo’s Bellevue Bullies Series, it’s the Sinclair brothers’ big sister’s turn to find love in the next installment of the New York Times and USA Today best-selling series, the Assassins.

Lucy Sinclair was no stranger to pain.

She grew up with three younger brothers, met a bad boy, got pregnant by him, married him, and then suffered through a nasty divorce from him. Pain. That was pain. To top it off, she even had to go through the heartbreaking divorce of her parents. Through it all, she survived. All she cared about was making sure her daughter was happy and taken care of. Despite an ex-husband hell-bent on ruining her life, she fought to overcome. She’s gotten to the point that she’s okay with being just okay. She never cared about herself because she never had the time. It was Angie and only Angie she focused on, but that all changed when Benji Paxton offered to help her daughter on the ice.
Benji knew the moment he saw Lucy, he’d never be the same. Especially when she came with the bundle of crazy that was her daughter. His heart wasn’t ready for them. After years spent sobering up and finding who he was without the alcohol, he never forgot he was being punished for not appreciating the love he had when he was younger. Because of his past, he had gotten used to being alone, a recluse, but even he had to admit it was getting old. He was lonely. Hockey wasn’t enough anymore. He wanted a family; he wanted his true love, and Lucy and Angie were just that.

Benji and Lucy were just two lost souls.
Floating through life with no purpose.
But finding each other gave them direction, a chance at a future.

And that had them both Rushing the Goal to be together.

Michel’s Review

My Favorite Book by Toni Aleo!

I am a huge fan of the Assassins series and the Bellevue Bullies series. Hot hockey players, sizzling romance, and Toni Aleo’s talented writing skills are the perfect combination of sports romance, contemporary romance, and new adult romance all wrapped up in an emotionally engaging story.  I have enjoyed every single book in both series.   I have to say that Rushing The Goal is my favorite book in both series.  It had the special magic of both series, strong family dynamics, team unity, and the entire cast of characters (both series) helping Lucy and Benji find their happily ever after.  This book had passion, heartbreak, humor, and dealt with issues that many people can relate to.  Add an adorable little girl to the mix that not only steals the characters heart but also the readers. The best thing about this book is that Toni put a lot of herself in this book.  A reader could easily see huge chunks of who Toni Aleo is.  It made this book even better!

I love witty, snarky dialogue between characters.  I love sassy women and dirty mouthed men.  When the dialogue between two characters has me laughing, cussing, and engaging right along with them, you know the author has done something right. When you reach the point where the characters are revealing their hearts, their hopes and fears, and you are crying right along with them, you know the author has put her heart into these people she created.  Toni Aleo brought Lucy and Benji to life in Rushing The Goal.  Although the readers met these characters in previous books, the impressions we walked away with were completely off, there are many layers to these two dynamic people.

Without giving away any spoilers let’s just say… the shrew and the dork are a match made in heaven.  Angela is the angel that owns both of their hearts.  These three people are going to have to face the biggest battle of their lives in order to win the biggest prize, the title of FAMILY.  It’s going to be more EPIC than the Stanley Cup Championship.  They are fighting for each other.

Benji is going to gain more than he lost.  He’s not only going to win two princesses , but he’s also going to gain three Sinclair brothers, a coach father in law, a lovable meddling mother in law,  and the Glittery Butterflies hockey team.  He’s going to learn to let go of the past and reach for the future.  He’s doing more than collecting rare toys, he’s collecting a family.  He’s getting the title of Daddy.

Lucy and Angela have lived through a horrific past.  They are still dealing with the after effects of that past.  Angela still has to spend time with her father.  Lucy has to let go of the most precious piece of her heart every other weekend and deal with the damage every other Monday.  For her baby she would do anything.  Somewhere along the way she lost herself.  Her family has been supportive, her career is finally taking off, and the woman she lost is beginning to surface since she met Benji Paxton.  The lovable dork hockey player has stolen her heart.  He stole Angela’s heart the first day they met.  Can she let this man into their lives?  He’s worth the risk.  He’s worth opening up her heart for.

There is so much more to this story that many readers will relate to.  Divorce is an ugly thing but when a child is used as a pawn it is heartbreaking.  Alcoholism is devastating but when someone finally accepts and conquers their addictions it’s the ultimate victory.  Learning to forgive yourself and let go of the past is opening the door for a happy future. Fighting for those you love is worth everything you are.  Becoming a family is priceless. It’s the rush of a lifetime.

Toni Aleo delivered a fantastic story.  I loved that she included all of the characters from both series to become the ultimate support system for Lucy and Benji.  The Sinclair family is healing and gaining more members.  I still love those Sinclair boys even though they play with poop… lol… read the book !

Rushing The Goal can be read as a stand alone or in series order.  It is a heartwarming romance and story of family love.

I loved Rushing The Goal by Toni Aleo!

The only time he ever allowed himself to love a girl, she broke his heart, the pieces splintering around him as he flew across country from Utah to New York when he was just a teenager.

Most of all, though, Will wants peace of mind–something he’s never had–and he knows the only way to get that is to face his painful past.

For Will, a tour across the States allows him to reconstruct the man he’s known he’s capable of being. He comes face-to-face with his own demons, making choices along the way that threaten some relationships and strengthen others. He meets Shea, a woman that challenges him, and a spark ignites on a blustery, winter night.

Just as Will thinks he’s safe to fall in love again, he’s reminded that his past will always be his past, and no matter how distant, it will follow him wherever he goes. When that past threatens his future, Will’s sleepless nights return, and the woman he has fallen for has to decide where in his life she belongs.

 Excerpt

On my way back to the hotel, I see Damon eating alone in a burger joint. “Mind if I join you?”

“Not at all. If you haven’t eaten, you should get the Baby Bella. Oh, my God.”

“That’s what you’re eating?” He nods. A waitress arrives within seconds, and I point to his burger to show her it’s what I want. “And a Coke, please.” I catch myself watching her as she walks away. I can’t deny that she’s attractive. In hopes of getting my mind off her, I glance around at the other patrons. “Is it me, or does this place make you want to grow a full beard and become a mountain man?”

“Definitely.”

“These river trips and shit? We need to come back and do that sometime.”

“When the beards come in,” he says with a mouthful of food.

“Of course.”

“Where’s everyone else?”

“I’m sure Ben’s gettin’ some action from his girl online…”

“That was a given, man.”

“Tavo’s playing pool at this cowboy bar. It has saddles for barstools. I’m not shittin’ you.”

“Pool, huh? Could I make some money?”

“You gonna go hustle? Some scrawny city boy in that place? Mountain men, Will. We just talked about that.”

“They don’t scare me. And whatever, I’m not scrawny.” I puff out my chest just to make my point… but I’m not.

“Compared to Wooly Mammoth over there, and his sidekick, Big Bad John?” He nods to two guys in plaid flannel shirts walking down the street as if they’ve just dismounted a couple of bulls. “Pretty sure they had an axe to grind with you before you even walked in just because of your damned Yankees cap.”

“Fuck you and fuck your Mets.” He laughs at me as the waitress sets down a soda for me.

“You’re not scrawny,” she says softly to me, poking her head in between us.

“See? Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.” She flutters her lashes at me, smiling.

Damon’s staring at me when my eyes meet his. “What?”

“Nothing.”

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Why were you looking at her like that?”

“Like what?”

“Like you wanted to mount her and grind your axe into her…”

“Oh, shut the fuck up. I was not.” He raises his brows. “Jesus Christ, I’m not sure if you’re aware of this, but the hormones don’t just stop flowing when you meet a woman you like.”

“A hundred bucks says she gives you her number… and you’ve got your own room here for one more night. This has ethical dilemma written all over it.”

“It does not! And I’m not taking that bet. I’m saving my money.”

He chuckles. “You know she’s giving you her digits.”

“Probably…” I can’t help it if I know the signs. “I’m not gonna keep them… or call her. Why don’t you ask her out?”

“Not my type. She has no meat on her bones whatsoever. I have to have something to hold on to.”

“You’re saying if she came on to you, you’d turn her down?” I ask him point blank.

He thinks for just a split second. “No.”

“Dipshit. Hey, you didn’t mention Peron… what’s he up to?”

“He was in the fitness center.”

“No, I said Peron.” He nods. “Peron’s working out?”

“Treadmill.”

“I might have a running buddy?” I ask, over-dramatically.

“You might…”

“Here’s your burger.” Our waitress takes a seat on the empty stool next to Damon.

“You’re Damon Littlefield, aren’t you?”

I grin as I take a bite of my food, now wishing I’d taken the bet. It would have been a quicker and easier way to make money than a round of pool. Nah, I like a little bit of a challenge.

“I hear you like to have a little fun,” she flirts.

“Yeah,” he admits to her.

“Into three-ways?”

He clears his throat before answering. “My favorite of all the ways.”

“So stupid,” I whisper under my breath, earning an elbow in my side.

“What about him?” she asks, nodding at me. I shake my head politely.

“Not Will’s favorite thing…”

“But… would he?”

“I think he might want to know who the third party was.”

“No,” I say, trying to be polite.

“Oh, it’d be you,” she says to Damon.

“Wait, what?” he asks.

She has my attention, too. “Sorry?” I’m biting my lip, stifling a laugh if she’s suggesting what I think she’s suggesting.

“I wanted to see if you two wanted to have a three-way with me.”

“Oh, God, no,” Damon says even before the laughter escapes my lips. “No, see… it’s not like that with us. No. We’ve known each other for too long.”

“Eight years. And neither of us are, uh… curious at all, in that aspect. Sorry. I’ve already seen more of Damon than I ever want to.”

“You wouldn’t have to do anything with each other… just, you know… watch… and maybe touch.”

“Oh, we know…” I say. We’ve seen porn, thank you very much. “I have to pass. Damon, you’re a handsome guy, but, uh…”

“You’re an ugly son-of-a-bitch,” he tells me. “Fuck that.”

We both start laughing as our waitress gets up, clearly embarrassed. “Look, I’m flattered,” I tell her. “We–we–are flattered. It’s just not something we’re into.”

She nods, smiles, and returns to us. “Well, I get off at nine, if either one of you are interested in a little solo action…”

“I’ll be here at five after,” Damon says quickly. “And if you have a girl friend you want to bring…”

“For him?” she asks, nodding to me.

“For him, or for us…” he says.

I glare at him, then start shaking my head vehemently. “Not for me. That’s all you guys. Or maybe Tavo. Or Peron. Or anyone other than me.”

“I’ll see what I can do,” she says. “I’m Ralli, by the way.”

“Cute name,” Damon says. “Suits you.”

“I might need one of these alcoholic shakes to get this image out of my head,” I joke with him.

“Might I suggest the Mudslide?” he asks. “Dark chocolate oozing with sweet, vanilla custard.”

“Awww, fuck,” I say, throwing down my burger on my plate. “You’re the absolute worst.” He can’t stop laughing, and eventually I join in with him, now thinking about how ludicrous her invitation was. When I can talk, I finally pose a question to him. “Do we look like we swing both ways?”

“Compared to…” He gestures to the abundance of mountain men around us.

“Yeah, we’re not coming back until we get the facial hair thing figured out.”

“You better start now.”

“Mine grows fast!” I argue, feeling the stubble on my chin.

“Your mustache takes awhile, though. The beard’s good, but there’s something weird about part of your upper lip.”

“It’s a scar, you idiot. It’s never gonna grow right.” I drag my finger over the line on my lip that I can barely even feel anymore.

“I guess we can’t come back.”

“I don’t think mountain men will take points off for a scar. Girls even like it. You just have to be perfectly coiffed. Can’t have a single imperfection… spend more on beauty products than any woman I know.”

“But feel my skin.” He picks up my hand.

“No!” I pull my hand back into my body, chuckling again. “We do look like we swing both ways. It’s your fault, too.”

He puts his arm across my shoulders and plants a kiss on my cheek.

“We’re so getting beat up as soon as we walk out of this place…” I mutter.

“We’re both too pretty.”

“I’m not shaving anymore,” I vow. “So, Ralli, huh?” I ask him, starting to eat again.

Synopsis:

They say that time heals a broken heart, but you try moving on when your ex is the most famous man on the planet.

Every time I walk down the street, there he is on magazine covers and billboards plastered with his gorgeous face: Finn McKay. Now he’s a drop-dead sexy rock star, but when I knew him, he was just the boy from the wrong side of the tracks – and the first guy I ever loved. He broke my heart into a hundred pieces when he skipped town without saying goodbye – but now he’s back.
And he wants me.
I’m determined not to make the same mistakes twice, but the chemistry with Finn was always way too hot to ignore. He was the guy who had me sneaking out my bedroom window for just one more kiss, and breaking curfew parked by the riverbanks, steaming up his windows in the backseat of his car. The past five years have been good to him, real good, and between his dirty mind and that ‘I know how to make you scream’ smile, he’s breaking through my defenses all over again.

Maybe one last wild fling for old time’s sake is what I need to finally move on. But what happens when Finn wants more than my body? This time he wants everything.

Tracey’s Review

“See, I want to make one thing clear,” I tell her, still holding tight, feeling her body relax again, pulled back from the edge. “I’ll do anything for you, baby. Anything you want. I will love you until the end of the…world, but you don’t get to shut me out again. When I take you, I take all of you. Every last piece of you, body and soul.”

Oh, my goodness, Melody Grace, I die. Why, you ask? Two words: Finn McKay. This man, this wonderful, loving, sweet, hot man, has won me over, heart and soul.

I have been a fan of Melody Grace for a very long time. Instantly smitten by her Beachwood Bay series, I grew to love the stories of broken folks that found love, peace, and their other halves, in a lovely little town on the coast of North Carolina. Seeing the end of the series left me feeling a little bit like I was leaving friends behind, and a place that I had grown to love. So, when I came across the blurb for HEARTBREAKER, Melody’s latest book, I was so excited to see what she had in store for us.

High school sweethearts, Eva and Finn were everything to each other. When he left her and their hometown of Oak Harbor without a word or a backward glance, Eva was heartbroken. Leaving town seemed like the best medicine, but broken dreams, a life spinning out of control, and the pull of the peace of Oak Harbor drew her back home. Finn, though, made a life that he’d always dreamed of, finding fame and success through his music. Seeing him in Oak Harbor again was the last thing that anyone expected, and his return has Eva reeling, especially when Finn makes it clear that he’s back for her.

He was our claim to fame now, the wayward son made good, and even though it would have been easier if he’d just stayed gone, there’s a part of me that knew this was inevitable. One day Finn would be coming home.

I loved this book. From the first page through to the last word, I could not read quickly enough. In her typical style, Melody has written a story full of love, passion, longing, and redemption. These characters are well-rounded and complex, flawed, yet honest and open, and their passion for each other was palpable. I love that, while there is plenty of sizzle, it is the emotion that leaps off the page, the tie that binds Eva and Finn together, despite, or perhaps because of, their past. HEARTBREAKER is a 5+ star read for me, and one of my favorites of 2016. Thank you, Melody, for sharing Eva’s and Finn’s story with us. It was absolutely worth the wait.

LOGAN KADE TEASER

Excerpt

Someone new had arrived at the party, and turning around, I assumed it was Logan Kade. I could only see the back of him. He was talking to a group of guys right outside the back door, and someone motioned in our direction.

Jason groaned.

Logan lifted his head, looking right at us.

From the back, he was the finest specimen I’d seen in a long time. Tall. Lean. Broad shoulders. Trim waist. His shirt clung to his form, outlining his lithe build. He was obviously an athlete. Guys couldn’t get that look unless they played sports on an almost-daily basis and for hours at a time. Others might try to mold and sculpt their bodies to look as good as this one, but their efforts never played out.

Even the back of his neck was delicious. His shirt hugged the muscles of his shoulder and the ridges where his neck and shoulders became one. His hair had a crew cut. When he finally glanced over his shoulder again, looking in the direction the other guy had pointed, his eyes found mine. They held firm.

I swallowed, feeling like I’d just gotten the wind knocked out of me. He was breathtaking.

Dark chocolate eyes. Long eyelashes I would’ve killed for when I was younger—hell, I still would. He had an angular face with high cheekbones, and the front of him matched his back. His biceps bulged, and his shirtsleeves tightened around them for a second before they relaxed. The outline of washboard abs was visible through his shirt. His jeans sealed the image, making my mouth water, and I finally pulled my eyes away.

I had to. I hadn’t reacted to a guy like this in a long time.

There’d been storylines and characters in my head all my life, but it came to a boiling point one day and I HAD to get them out of me. So the computer was booted up and I FINALLY felt it click. Writing is what I needed to do. After that, I had to teach myself how to write. I can’t blame my teachers for not teaching me all those years in school. It was my fault. I was one of the students that was wishing I was anywhere but at school! So after that day, it took me lots of work until I was able to put together something that resembled a novel. Synopsis

Born into blood, I was a mafia princess. Raised in hiding, I was a Californian sweetheart.

The day my father sold my thirteen year old body to pay off a five year old debt was the day my mother stole me in the dead of night. She protected me as she was supposed to.

My father may have been the king, but my mother was the queen.

The mafia blood was hers.

That was ten years ago. Now… the devil was on the loose.

Carlo ‘Hunter’ Rosso was my father’s right hand man and the boy I’d loved since I could tie my own shoelaces. He was always the most ruthless and the most deadly of all the children.

He’d thought I was dead until the day his assignment was given: Kill Adriana and Alexandria Romano. Kill the princess, and definitely kill the queen.

What he didn’t know was that the queen was dead, and the princess had taken her throne.

Blood didn’t lie. It smeared, distorted, stained. But it didn’t lie.

My father was going to learn the hard way that the empire he’d stolen belonged to me.

And so did Carlo ‘Hunter’ Rosso.

Excerpt

“Staying, are you? Figure it’s easier to kill me in my sleep?”

Once again, he rubbed his hand across his face. He said nothing.

“Trying to work out whose life is worth more, right? Mine is probably worth a lifetime of comfort for you. Kill me and everyone’s happy, right? My pathetic excuse for a father gets to keep his empire and you’re taken care of for life.”

He looked at me, and his expression was a little tortured. I was being harsh. I knew that. But I needed to be. It was easier to provoke him and be angry with him than give in to the horrible ache that had settled in my heart.

“Adriana…” Weak. The word was weak.

I wanted to ignore the indecision on his face, but I couldn’t.

He was considering it.

He really was.

I scoffed quietly at him and grabbed the gun from the coffee table. His mask and gloves fell to the floor, but he made no move to pick them up. The safety was on the gun, and I held it out to him. “Here. Take it. I don’t care, Hunter. I don’t have much of a life here in hiding anyway.”

He didn’t even look at the gun. His silvery gaze never left mine. I wished he would look away, because in that gaze, I saw the Hunter I knew. The boy who once ripped his favorite shirt to stem the bleeding when I fell and cut my leg, then proceeded to carry me home. The boy who offered to pee on my foot when I got stung by a jellyfish in Mexico on vacation when I was seven.

The boy I loved before I knew what love even was.

“You’re weak, Hunter,” I whispered. Slowly, I turned the gun back to me and touched the barrel to my temple the way he did earlier. His jaw clenched when my thumb edged toward the safety, and when my finger moved to hook around the trigger, he moved.

He was like a lightning bolt. He came at me like a flash, snatched the gun from my hand, and dropped it on the sofa. It bounced but stayed on the seat, and then he turned on me with blazing eyes. “Don’t,” he ground out, his arms tensing and looking even bigger. “Don’t ever fucking put that to your head again.”

“Why? I was saving you the job.”

The words had barely left my lips when he pounced on me. It was deadly, the way his hands clasped my face and his mouth descended on mine. I staggered back into the wall, gasping at the ferocity of his movement. Shock paralyzed me as he kissed me harshly. His tongue ran along the seam of my mouth, and as I fisted the sides of his shirt, I bit his lower lip.

A low growl left his throat, but he didn’t relent. He just kissed me harder. He kissed me until I was fucking spinning and could barely string two thoughts together. Until my whole body was alight with his touch and responding to his every movement.

He tasted like whiskey. The strong, rich taste that lingered on his lips was heady and only added to the intoxicating way he touched me.

And then… It hit me. He was touching me. Kissing me.

Twenty minutes ago, he could have killed me.

TEASER

4 Star

Tracey’s Review

Being tapped to perform a hit should be no problem for the Romano family assassin. But when said hit is on the Boss’s daughter, the daughter that is the other half of your soul, lines could get a little blurred.

For as long as they could remember, Adriana Romano and Carlo ‘Hunter’ Rossi were two parts of a whole, the other half of each other. So when Adriana’s mother took her and disappeared, faking their deaths to escape Adriana’s mob boss father, everything that was light in Hunter died, making it easy for him to become a stone cold killer.

Whisked far away from the life she’d been born into, Adriana had always known that the day would come for retribution. Her mother, the queen of the Romano crime family, made sure of that. When Hunter shows up, ready to make the hit on the order of Adriana’s father, she’s not sure how to feel. Because Hunter still owns a piece of her heart, and the heart wants what the heart wants.

After reading and being totally blown away by DEAR PROFESSOR by author Blaire Drake, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book. Part love story, part episode of The Sopranos, HUNTER is one heck of a read. Carlo ‘Hunter’ Rossi has what it takes to be a successful hitman. Showing no compassion and no remorse, he gets the job done. But when he and Adriana meet again, all of the feelings that they once shared come flooding back. Adriana knows that she shouldn’t trust Hunter, but old feelings die hard. And, passion, well, these two have it in spades. Super-steamy, oh, yes. The heat-o-meter between these two is absolutely palpable.

Blaire’s second book is very different book, but it is still a story that I could not put down. Action-packed, with complex and likeable characters (which sounds so strange, because, well, they’re all mobsters), and plenty of heat, HUNTER is an entertaining page-turner that gets 4 ‘ya gotta read this now’ stars from me. I don’t know what Blaire will have for us next, but I look forward to it very much.
