Synopsis

Falling is easy. Landing without breaking your heart? Impossible.

Fall or Break, Book 1

Harper is no longer behind bars, but it doesn’t feel like it. Ten years serving time for a crime he didn’t commit have left him shut down, numb, and a frozen wreck over the simplest of choices.

He’s acutely aware of the dark-haired young man checking him out in the supermarket, but he’s too deep in panic mode to even meet the guy’s gaze. Afraid the slightest move will trigger a fall that will never stop.

Fresh off a long-term relationship with a controlling man, Malachi is stuck living with relatives who think he’s a waste of oxygen. The tall guy in the long, gray coat is the first bright spot he’s glimpsed in a long time…though the man’s unblinking stare at a bottle of shower gel is a touch alarming.

Hard experience tells both of them to turn away before lust turns to hopeless attraction, and inevitably to disaster. But once their sparks connect, the arc of electricity is too strong to deny. Even if the cost is too much to bear.

Warning: Contains an ex-con with disaster written all over him, a boy toy who’s trouble with a capital T, a damp old British house, compulsive meddling, and enough hot sex to cure the severe case of nervous babbling.

Tina’s Review

All Male Romance. Setting: England.
Immediately, I fell in love with the character of Malachi. Harper took a little more time to warm up to. Both have such uniquely tragic pasts. Malachi was miserable, as the submissive partner to an over-dominant man for too long. Harper was falsely convicted and imprisoned for ten years. Both are trying to make adjustments to their new lots in life.
There’s a full cast of secondary characters that create a rich spectrum of personality types. The dialogue and interactions are believable, natural and brimming with humanity of the best and worst kind. This entire book is a study in conflicts, better is how those conflicts are resolved. Mature and time-appropriate progression, with an allowance for mistakes and misunderstandings to be corrected. The plot is deceptive in that it seems like it will be a straight-forward contemporary, but there is a lot of hidden conspiracy and mystery going on. Festering hatred and blind ignorance fuel crimes both old and new and leave Harper and Malachi in a tailspin of what-the-f@ckery. There was very little predictability; in fact, my short list of top suspects were all wrong. That does not happen often. I would have liked to have known if the culprit knew him prior to the initial contact (that’s about the best way I can phrase is while not giving away a spoiler). The conclusion was very solid. There were no cliffhangers.
This was a very enjoyable read. Emotional and suspenseful.

Ashley’s Review

“No one is normal. Everyone is just pretending to be normal.” –Deanna Madden

Deanna Madden has been locked in her apartment for 3 years, by choice. Confined to her small 900 square-foot apartment, she relies on her drug addicted neighbor, Simon Evans to lock her in each night from the outside world by continuing to supply him with prescription pills in exchange for this small but very important task.

Using the internet as her escape, a means of interacting with society and her means of an income, she lives by the alias Jessica Beth Reilly where she makes her living as an internet adult entertainment superstar fulfilling the fantasies of those with odd and eclectic tastes. When she is contacted by RalphMA35 who has a bizarre and quite concerning appetite for young girls, Deanna is left questioning what she should do.

When her regular UPS delivery man named Jeremy, who has been delivering packages outside her door for the past three years via verbal approval from Deanna from behind her apartment door brings a package but doesn’t get his typical response from the girl inside; Jeremy takes a chance, twisting the knob to 6E to check on the girl inside. What he discovers and what ensues within the apartment sets in motion a nail biting suspense that’ll have you hooked till the past page.

While her clientele think she’s a bubbly 19 year old college student, “Jessica” is far more sinister than anyone could imagine… she’s got hunger to kill.

“That’s the reason I stay away from people. Because I want to kill. Constantly. It’s almost all I think about.”

This is the first book I’ve read by A.R. Torre who also writes as Alessandra Torre. This book is unique as I’ve never read anything like it. The characters are so well developed, the plot is weaved so brilliantly, and the author obviously did extensive research into the adult online entertainment community to make this story as realistic as possible. I’d classify this story as romantic/suspense/psychological thriller. It’s not your typical HEA and its not cookie cutter, its raw and jaw dropping. It’d definitely got a shock factor that’ll captivate readers. This story is a solid 4 stars and I cannot wait until the next installment!

Michel’s Review

I have been a huge fan of Elle Kennedy’s writing for years.  I loved her Out of Uniform series and Killer Instincts series.  Her After Hours series is sizzling hot.  She has a way of bringing her characters to life and making them demand your absolute attention.  Her books have a combination of witty dialogue, dynamic characters, a well developed plot, and pacing that keeps the reader enthralled.  Most of her books have either been erotic romance or romantic suspense.  I was wondering how she would pull off a New Adult romance.  New Adult romance is a generalized genre that can contain sweet & sexy, dark & intense, angsty & anxious, or exciting & erotic.  The Deal has all of these elements and more.  It is one of the most enjoyable and entertaining New Adult romances that I have read.  I connected with the main characters as well as the secondary characters.  They were all larger than life in their own way.  The one thing that stood out besides the main characters romance was Elle’s portrayal of college life.  She portrayed a very realistic look at life on the college campus and how it relates to their courses as well as social life.

Garrett Graham is the bad boy of the college hockey team.  He makes panties melt and owns his man whore reputation with relish.  He has an overinflated ego that matches his cocky attitude.  He is a star player and lives for playing hockey.  He is diligent with his grades, practices, and performance.  When he fails his philosophy mid term, it could not only ruin his GPA, it will affect his position on the team.  He could lose the one thing he lives for.  He is going to have to retake his philosophy mid term and ace it in order to remain on the team.  He needs help.  Who better to help him than one of the few students that managed not only to pass the mid term but ace it.  He never really noticed Hannah Wells before until she accidentally dropped her exam and he saw her A. Now he is on a mission to get Hannah to tutor him.  He will try to bribe her, entice her, and woo her.  When he discovers the golden carrot that will make her give in, he will dangle it in every way he can. His life is counting on that golden carrot.

Hannah Wells is a music major.  She is a pretty confident and outgoing girl with her friends and peers.  She is smart, personable, and resilient.  She is dedicated to her craft.  The one area she lacks in is her confidence with the opposite sex.  She has finally found a guy that she is interested in and she has no clue how to deal with her attraction. Not only is he out of her league, he is also the star quarterback on the football team.  Not the type of guy she would normally take an in interest in.   She has had some very bad experiences with the opposite sex.  Although she has mostly overcome her issues, she is still a bit leery and scared.  If she can get past her fears, she may be able to approach him.

When the ego maniac sex god, Garrett Grant, approaches her to tutor him in philosophy, she thinks he is out of his ever loving mind.  There is no way she is going to tutor the self absorbed jock.  That is until he finds out her ultimate weakness and offers her a guaranteed solution.  His persistence and golden carrot are enough to make her cave.  It’s time to make a deal with the Devil.

Hannah and Garrett are in for some big surprises.  They are both quite different than they appear on the surface.  Hannah may have the upper hand when the tutoring begins but Garrett will quickly take control of the situation.  Both will be in for a great learning experience.  Both will come out winners in the end.  Their Deal will seal both their fates.

I loved the banter between Garrett and Hannah.  The snarky sarcasm, witty comebacks, and dirty talking are beyond clever and entertaining.  The heated bedroom scenes make your temperature burn out of control.  The emotional and intimate moments will have you swooning.  What I loved best is how they formed a deep respect and friendship with one another.  They were able to honestly confide in one another and know that their trust was not misplaced.

I loved everything about this book! Read The Deal by Elle Kennedy.

I am looking forward to the next book in the Off-Campus series.  The Mistake will release in June of 2015.  It is a complete mystery of who this book will feature or what their story is about.

Tracey’s Review

A night in jail has left Aedyn Cumberland angry and determined to leave Granger, Iowa, and all the memories of his past in his rear-view mirror. But as he tries to forget home and the betrayal by Lauren Mitchell, Aedyn finds himself unable to stop thinking about the woman that he loves.

Driven By Destiny is the second book in the AEDYN series by Eve Carter. I had not read the first book, and felt like I was missing out on the backstory with Aedyn and Lauren, so I do suggest that you read them in order. That being said, I enjoyed this story. It is fast-paced and full of action, not to mention some seriously hot scenes between Aedyn and Lauren. I was glad to see Lauren finally stand up to her bully of an ex and be strong enough to leave her old life behind to pursue her dreams with Aedyn.

There is more to Aedyn’s and Lauren’s story beyond the ending of Driven By Destiny, so this book ends on a cliff-hanger. It was well done, though, and left me wishing that I had Saved By Destiny (Book 3) ready to dive into. As it stands, I give Aedyn and Lauren 4 steamy stars, and look forward to the speedy of arrival of the ending to their story.B

The Unraveling Series is a spin off of the Secrets Series by Jessica Sorensen.  In the spellbounding Secrets Series readers fell in love with Ella & Micha and Lila & Ethan.  Both of these couples captured the readers hearts.  These couples overcame great obstacles in their lives and found the love that would last a lifetime.  A love that has commitment, dedication, and passion.  A love that made them better people.

The Unraveling Series is a testament to the steadfast love both of these couples have found.  The Unraveling Series features their children.  Their children are coming of age and paving the road their own lives.  The guidance and wisdom their parents are giving them has made these children remarkable young people.

Each book in the Unraveling Series is novella length.  Each book packs a solid punch and moves the series forward at a fast pace.  The interweaving of romance and mystery builds the story into a solid and fluid series.  The cliffhangers at the end do not leave the reader feeling cheated, it leaves them wanting more.

Lyric is Ella & Micha’s daughter.  She is smart, talented, and compassionate.  She is the best of both her parents.  She is a ray of sunshine.  She is a “glass half full” kind of girl.  She loves fiercely.  She takes the world on full throttle.

Ayden is Lila & Ethan’s adoptive son.  They have adopted all four of their children.  These children were not adopted as babies, they were adopted when they were older.  They are former troubled foster children that were basically unadoptable.  Lila and Ethan wanted to give these children a chance at a happy life, they wanted to give these children the love and respect they deserved.  Ayden was was close to sixteen when Lila and Ethan adopted him.  He has come from a horrific background.  He and his siblings were kidnapped, abused, and tortured.  The experiences he had were so horrific, that when finally freed, he developed amnesia.  His anxiety levels are high.  It was very hard to accept his good fortune of being adopted by such a loving family.  The one person who helped open his heart and trust was Lyric.  Her unconditional friendship and positive attitude have been one of the greatest gifts in his life.  Although he really can’t put the past behind him even though he can’t remember it, he can finally move forward and embrace the good life he has been miraculously given.

unraveling YouIn Unraveling You the reader gets an introduction to the characters.  They also get to experience the strong friendship that builds between Lyric and Ayden.  They get a picture of the dynamics of both families and their relationship to one another.

The book starts out when both Ayden and Lyric are just becoming independent of their parents.  They are learning to drive and dictating their own social calendars. The deep friendship that they form becomes as natural as breathing air.  Lyric is open and breezy, Ayden is reluctant and a bit withdrawn.  He is haunted by the scars of his past.  Although he cannot remember all of it, his body scars are living proof of the horrors he survived.

Life seems to be going on an even keel when Ayden’s past comes back in full force.  The police have found his older brother murdered.  They want Ayden to help with the case.  Even though Ayden cannot remember his past, the police want him to engage in some experimental therapy to kick start his memory and help with the case.

This book ends on a cliffhanger…..

raveling youRaveling You picks up where Unraveling You left off.  Ayden has begun hypnotic therapy.  He desperately wants to help the police solve the murder of his eighteen year old brother. They have also found out that his younger sister has been kidnapped from her foster home.  He is under pressure to regain his memories.

Meanwhile his relationship with Lyric is moving into something more than friendship.  He is falling for her.  She is returning his feelings.  But his past is still a real problem beyond his memories.  He has serious issues with being touched.  He still has problems communicating his feelings.

Lyric and Ayden will grow into adulthood with a beauty that is all their own.  They express themselves through music and lyrics.  They give each other the right amount of comfort and the right amount of excitement.  But is it enough with Ayden’s past knocking on their doors.

The mystery of Ayden’s past begins to surface bits and pieces at a time.  While he is making some strides in his therapy it is not enough.

It is beginning to appear that his past wants him back.  Threats begin to surface.  Odd people begin appearing in weird places.  It looks like he is the next target.

Cliffhanger…….

Excerpt

I have been watching her for three months.

For ninety-two days, I’ve looked into those lifeless green eyes. Let my gaze slide over her flawless, pale skin. Fantasized about her luscious lips.

For ninety-two days she has inspired me in ways I never knew possible. A muse, unbeknownst to her. Motivating me. Encouraging my darkest desires to life through my work. Just when I was so close to giving up, surrendering to my unchangeable fate, I spotted her, and haven’t been able to look away since.

I don’t think she has a clue that my eyes find her the moment I step into this establishment. She’s oblivious to the way I always sit at the same table—the one with the best view of the bar. Of her. Unaware I spend my evenings watching her.

Memorizing her. Inch by exquisite inch.

Her soft beauty and innocent naivety keeps me coming back. Over and over, since the day she first served me. My cock grows hard beneath the shelter of the table as she strides toward me, her breasts bouncing lightly with each step. My arousal has nothing to do with sexual gratification. Though she has a beautiful body, curvy in all the places a man’s hands like to grip, and hold, and conquer, I’m turned on by the way she makes me feel inside. By the strength and craving and ambition she has unknowingly restored in me.

A man’s wet fantasy. A woman’s aspiration. My divine intervention.

Michel’s Review

I was really excited when I received an ARC copy of Hard by Cheryl McIntyre.  If you have not read any books by Cheryl McIntyre, Hard may be the book that makes you a die hard Cheryl McIntyre fan.  Her writing is edgy, emotional, honest, and captivating.  I have not picked up one book by Cheryl and not been able to put it down.  When I finally got Hard downloaded on my kindle, I stayed up until the wee hours of the night because I could not walk away from this story until it was finished.

Hard is more than a dark erotic romance.  It is more than an insight to the kinkier side of life.  It is about dealing with the harsh realities of life and learning to cope any way possible.  It is a story of acceptance and finding peace.  It is a story of learning how to love after life has dealt you a very bad hand.  It is a story of healing.

The first few chapters of Hard are devastating.  Holland Howard has experienced the worst that life could deliver.  She is beyond broken.  She has lost everything she cared about in life.  She has lost herself.  Her only way to cope is to leave everything she knows behind.  She is no longer a functioning person.  She is like a robot, existing one moment to the next.  She ends up across the country, in a state where she knows absolutely no one.  She is managing to exist by working as a cocktail waitress in a non descript bar.  That is okay with her, she only has to interact with people to do her job.  She doesn’t have to personable, she doesn’t have to expose herself, and she can keep her pain to herself.

One man, Jensen Payne, takes notice of Holland in a very odd way.  He has been watching her day and day out.  He has become obsessed with her beauty.  He wants to own her beauty.  He wants to own her pain.

When Jensen propositions Holland it will lead them both on an erotic journey that is beyond the imagination.  It will also lead them to accept the people they are underneath the surface.  They will have to face the past, accept their lives, and find something that makes them want to look to the future.  They will find the peace they didn’t know they were searching for.

I am not going to say any more about this book other than it is beyond excellent.  This book evoked so many emotions.  One moment I was crying my eyes out and the next moment I was totally creeped out.  Then a few chapters later I was falling in love and praying these characters would find happiness.

Hard was meticulously written.  It had the perfect flow and right amount of pacing.  The aha moments were delivered with surprise and satisfaction.  The characters were complex and their back stories were heartbreaking.  The journey the characters traveled was hard but also freeing.

I cannot praise this book enough.  It is a dark book that has a bright light at the end of the journey.  There are no cliffhangers and definitely satisfying resolutions.

Hard by Cheryl McIntyre is a 5 Star book.

Katie In Love

An Erotic Romance

By Chloe Thurlow

c79a3-add-to-goodreads-button-2

Synopsis

atie Boyd has nothing in common with Tom Bridge, the volunteer doctor she meets at a party – except in bed she finds a passion to match her own. Tom is intense, puzzling, a man who cares about others and compels Katie to question her own life drifting through the hip clubs and London party scene.

When Tom returns to his post in a Sri Lanka orphanage, Katie isn’t sure if their passion was lit by its brevity, or if love, unexpected and not entirely wanted, has edged its way into her life. Should she go back to being who she always was? Or follow Tom into the unknown?

Katie in Love is a compelling erotic-romance that will grip readers as they follow Katie’s journey to an ending they may have expected – but not in the way they expected it.

Brilliantly written and coolly self-aware, Chloe Thurlow was described by KM Dylan on Amazon as “…the Anaïs Nin of our times.” With Katie in Love – her sixth novel – Thurlow reveals a writer at the height of her powers.

Tina’s Review

First-person female POV. Warning: The journey through Katie’s thoughts can be chaotic and unfiltered. 😉
Ms. Thurlow has an erratically whimsical writing style that is abundantly descriptive. The characters are well-written, each with their own very distinctive personalities and quirks. The dialogue is believable, the interaction is good. There are only a few places where things feel a bit disjointed and awkward, but it’s difficult to tell if perhaps it weren’t intentional. The plot holds the reader’s interest and flows smoothly most of the time. On occasion, I found myself re-reading parts due to the overly-descriptive style but it was not so much that it detracts from the story’s quality. In fact, I find that many books by Nora Roberts effect me in the same manner. The conflicts throughout the books are maturely resolved with little to no predictability. The conclusion is solid and welcoming, with no cliffhangers.

Since high school everyone thought Jake Bender would end up behind bars; after all, he comes from a long line of bad boys. He spent years away from the place he called home. When he finally comes back, everyone thinks he’s just a punk kid all grown up who’s now running a dive bar called The Night Club. What they don’t know is he heads up a special task force, which cleans up neighborhoods and makes them safe again.

Stormy Ryan has always felt more comfortable with her books than with people. She loves to spend her days within the pages of her books. When her second-hand bookstore is robbed for the third time in as many months, her employees quit leaving her to run the shop on her own. With the pressure of having to deal with her shop and people, not to mention the declining neighborhood, she is at the end of her rope.

When closing up her shop late one night, she is held up and the neighborhood bad boy saves her, putting both of them at the forefront of a psychotic’s obsession.
Being bad has never looked so good.

 Prologue

Eighteen year old Jake Bender sat slouched over in a chair in the principal’s office listening to the asshole saying over and over and over how he’d end up in jail or dead. Blah, blah, blah. It wasn’t anything he hadn’t heard a thousand times before. He was thankful this one wasn’t followed up by fists like his old man liked to do.

“Are you listening to me, boy?” The principal slammed his fist on the desk and walked around wagging his finger in Bender’s face. “You mark my words, boy; you’re heading for jail or the cemetery. Either way this world is better off without you. You could disappear and no one would care. We don’t need you.”

He sat there and slowly looked up at the principal raising an eyebrow. He’d been hearing this for years from his old man; that song was stuck on repeat. Bender was counting down the days until he could leave this place behind. He’d go full time at the garage, find a place to live, and try to stay alive. Once he was on his own he’d be the one who came first, no one else, just like he’d been raised, look out for number one.

“Don’t give me that look, boy.” He raised his hand as if to slap him.

Bender sighed and leaned back. He knew there was no way he was actually going to hit him. Besides, if for some reason he did, it wouldn’t hurt as much as what his dad did on a daily basis. “Do it. I dare you.”

They stared at each other before the principal backed down. “You’re not worth it. Get out of here and don’t come back for a week.”

“What, no Saturday detention?”

“Never worked for you before; sure isn’t going to work now. We just have to get through the next two months, unless you want to drop out now. Then you’re society’s problem.”

Bender stood up. “Way to inspire the youth there, sir. You may want to write that little speech down for future reference.”

“Get out, Bender. Just get out.”

*****

Bender slowly walked home kicking a rock hoping the old man was out getting drunk somewhere and wouldn’t be home until later. He wasn’t worried about his mom; she’d been beaten down so much over the years she didn’t care about anything as long as his dad wasn’t beating on her.

When he saw the man sitting on the steps to his house he paused. There was something familiar about him, but Bender couldn’t place him. He knew he’d seen him before, but couldn’t remember.

“We need to have a talk son.”

“You’re not my dad.”

The man leaned back and crossed his ankles looking relaxed, but Jack knew he wasn’t. This man didn’t look like he ever let his guard down. “No, thank God for that. I’m here to help you.”

“Yeah, well I don’t want your fucking help.”

“Listen, you punk ass kid, do you want to end up like your old man? Nah, I can see from the look in your eyes you don’t. Well, I’m offering you a way out. A way you can hold onto that tough kid attitude while helping people.”

“Fuck them. They never helped me.”

“What do you think I’m doing? You sure as hell aren’t the first I’ve gotten out of here, and you won’t be the last, but you’d better listen up, boy, before it’s too late. This is your one shot at redemption. I suggest you take it.” He held out a card.

Bender stood there on shaking knees, thoughts going through his head. He wanted to escape the wrath of his father and the scum of the neighborhood. He knew if he stayed, he’d be dead within a year. Slowly, he reached out and grabbed the card, feeling deep down in his gut his whole life was about to change. Now, if it was for the better was yet to be seen.

Tina’s Review

Bender had a craptastic upbringing, where the general consensus was that he’d wind up rotting in a jail cell or a grave somewhere sooner rather than later. During one of this bleakest times, a stranger emerges offering him a way out. This man not only teaches him the skills to survive, but to thrive, and be an asset to others. Stormy just wants to run her old, used bookstore in peace but when all of her employees quit after the store’s been robbed several times, she’s forced to notice just how crime-ridden the neighborhood’s become. Still, she does not want to close shop nor does she want the skeezy “protection” the local thugs are “offering” to provide to her at a price. One of the thugs has a very twisted creative side… and he’s fixated on Stormy.

The characters range from light and innocent to dark and twisted. They are thought provoking. The plot is woven with thrills and romance, balancing beautifully. Dialogue is realistic, interaction believable – even when it is hard to fathom someone of Stormy’s age being so naive to the world as much as she’s moved around. The ease of reading is fluid, very well-written; it allows you to immerse yourself and not come up for air until the final scene is played out. WARNING: Whereas the sex scenes are not too graphic, Nutter’s scenes tend to be. The conflicts, threats, and hurdles were plentiful. Predictability was low. The conclusion was as solid as it could be, including a stellar epilogue. The only thing I’d like to have yet known was the outcome of Murdoch’s crew. Other than that, I’d recommend this to anyone who has an appetite for dark thrillers with just enough sexual heat and attraction to keep it balanced.

Michel’s Review

Bender is the first book or novella I have read by M. Stratton.  I love darker type of books and Bender definitely is qualified as a dark thriller.

The overall story line, plot, and characters were fairly well developed.  The problem was that this book was a novella.  It was just too short to execute the story to make an impact on the readers.  The reader did not get enough of a background of Bender to fully grip the man he is today.  The antagonist, Nutter, overwhelmed the story.  It seemed the story focused on his diabolical endeavors more than the the relationship between the hero, Bender and the heroine, Stormy.

Bender just did not find the perfect blend of being a dark thriller and romance.  It needed more words, more character development, and better plot execution.

Overall it was an entertaining novella.

Author Bio:

AuthorM. Stratton is an International Amazon bestselling author in the romantic suspense and mystery suspense categories for her debut novel After the Storm. She is a self-proclaimed dork that loves to make people laugh and can trip over nothing. Her inner rock star is always on stage performing to a sold out crowd but is quiet and shy on the outside.

She lives with her husband and son in Arizona, which is a big difference from where she grew up north of Chicago Illinois. As an only child she learned to tell herself stories to make the long winters go by quicker while dreaming of summer vacations. Now as an adult she still makes up stories to pass the time, but now she writes them down to share with other people.

When not writing you can find M. watching football (Go Bears!), NASCAR, or classic movies, watching her husband and father restore classic cars, and seeing who can be sillier, her or her son, and of course reading.

Things you don’t know about M. Stratton:
1. She loves the movie Twister… she can say all the lines along with the actors. She will also use those lines in real life as often as possible.

2. Halloween is her favorite holiday. She starts planning months in advance. She has more Halloween decorations than Christmas.

3. She once made up a monologue about her love of chocolate chip cookie dough for her high school drama class.

4. There are times she thinks she is so funny she has tears running down her face while laughing at herself.

5. M. can play the clarinet but is in awe of anyone who can play the guitar, piano or drums, pretty much anything where your hands have to do two different things at the same time.

6. Cary Grant is her favorite actor. When she was in high school after Cary Grant died one of the cable stations ran a marathon, she watched his movies from 6 in the morning all day and night until 4 AM the next day.

7. Reading has always been an escape for her. She can devour a book in hours. When she moved in with her husband she literally donated over 1,000 books and saved over 1,000 for herself. She can reread books over and over again if she loves them. There are some that she has reread about once a year for the past 20 years.

8. She eloped after knowing her husband for only two months in 2006. They are still married over seven years later.

Synopsis

A onetime bad girl comes home to small-town Oregon in the first in a sexy, heartfelt new series from USA TODAY bestselling author Maisey Yates

Sadie Miller isn’t expecting any welcome-home parades on her return to Copper Ridge. Least of all from part-time rancher, full-time lawman Eli Garrett. The straitlaced, impossibly hot deputy sheriff glares at her as if she’s the same teenage hoodlum who fled town ten years ago. But running from her demons has brought Sadie full circle, ready to make a commitment at last. Not to a man, but to a bed-and-breakfast. On Garrett land. Okay, so her plan has a tiny flaw…

Eli works too hard to let a blonde ball of trouble mess up his town. But keeping an eye on Sadie makes it tough to keep his hands off her. And if she’s so wrong for him, why does being with her feel so right?

Tracey’s Review

Sadie Miller has come home to Copper Ridge, Oregon, to put a past of running away far behind her. A decade of moving from one place to the next has left her rootless and without any real sense of self. By coming back to the place that she’s always seen as the start of all of her problems, she hopes that she will finally be able to lay old ghosts to rest. Eli Garrett is the poster boy for stability. As both deputy sheriff and part owner of the family ranch, he’s been the glue that holds his family together, following one tragedy after another. He likes order and rules, and is not ready for the changes that Sadie brings with her.

I am a big fan of the Copper Ridge series by Maisey Yates. The small-town community, the richly drawn characters, and the absolutely wonderful dialogue all come together to make these books immensely readable. I fell in love with Eli from the minute he stepped into the story, with his stoicism and order. It was just a matter of time before Sadie, with her quirkiness and her ideas for change snapped him right out of any sense of complacency and rocked his world. These two could not be more different, and have little in common other than a white-hot desire for each other. Until, that is, they begin to spend time together, and to reveal pieces of themselves that show that they are more than they appear to be. Both have very real shadows coloring their pasts, things that have molded them into the people that they are. It is being with each other that allows them to face their demons and evolve into stronger people, both separately and together.

While Maisey covers some serious subject matter, there are also plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. Maisey has a real gift for writing dialogue, both internal and between her characters, and I spent much of the book giggling to myself. And sexy time, Maisey has that down. The heat between Eli and Sadie is palpable, and their growing emotional connection heartfelt. And Connor, Kate, Liss, Jack, and all of the citizens of Copper Ridge make this a cast of folks worth getting to know. 5 stars for Part Time Cowboy, a book that shows that you really can go home again.

ìSheís beauty for my ashes. And Iím hope for her heartache.îóCole Danzer

Pocketful-of-Sand250I donít know what makes a great love story. Is it that instant attraction when boy meets girl? The passionate kisses and the fairy-tale ending? Or is it a lifetime of tragedy, paid in advance, for a few stolen moments of pure bliss? The pain and the suffering that, in the end, you can say are worth it for having found the missing piece of your soul?

The answer is: I donít know. I donít know what makes a great love story. I only know what makes my love story. I only know that finding Cole when I did, when Emmy and I were running from a nightmare, was the only thing that saved me. That saved us. He was more broken than I was, but somehow we took each otherís shattered pieces and made a whole. If that is what makes a great love story, if that is what makes an epic romance, then mineÖours is the greatest of them all.

Contains material that some may find disturbing. Not intended for readers under the age of 18.

Tracey’s Review

There are books that just absolutely sweep you away, that touch you so completely that you have to sit with it once you’re done and just be. To say that I think this book is amazing would be an understatement. There are not enough ways for me to express just how much this book affected me, and how wonderful I think it is.

I have long been an avid fan of Michelle Leighton. Her stories are always full: love, joy, angst, and, yes, pain, Michelle writes all of these emotions so very well. Her characters most often have pasts that have left them not quite whole.

“Sometimes I think broken people gravitate toward one another, like our shattered pieces connect on a level that unscarred people never know.”

Both Eden and Cole have faced things in their pasts that would have leveled lesser people. That they are able to find in each other, brokenness and all, a connection and a safe place is a testament to love and healing. This is not a simple love story, though, and Cole’s and Eden’s journey to each other is not without challenges. I think that this is part of what makes Pocketful of Sand so powerful, because the characters and their story are more real.

“I’ve been alone a long time, and not once have I ever felt lonely. Bereft, yes. Angry, hell yes. Bitter, remorseful, hopeless, yes, but never lonely. Not until you. You changed everything…And I wasn’t prepared for that. I wasn’t prepared for you…

I hear him shift and then I feel the feather-light brush of his lips on my forehead, the tip of my nose, the curve of my cheek.

‘I know you’re awake. And I love you,’ he says quietly, his mouth near my ear.”

Michelle has captivated me with Cole, with his anguish, his self-imposed solitude, and with his heart. And Eden, fighter that she is, overcomer that she is, along with little Emmy, deserve every single bit of happiness that comes their way.

I can’t say enough times that Pocketful of Sand should be on your must-read list. It is certainly one of my favorites of 2015, and if I could give it more than 5 stars, I would. Thank you, Michelle Leighton, for this heartbreakingly beautiful book.
