I laugh and find myself tempted by her hand, which sits on the metal table. After our impromptu snogging session, Jade put on a nice little sundress which has my imagination running wild and some strappy sandals. Her toes are painted a turquoise blue. I found it a little weird at first; normally I see reds or pinks on toes, but rarely a blue colour. I quite like it. I like it a lot. In fact, I’ve yet to find something about this woman I don’t like.
“And yet, you didn’t. I came over and kissed you. You could’ve punched me, kicked me in the nuts, or groped me. I’m grateful you let me kiss you the way I did.”
She blushes again. “Why did you? I’m sure there are other, more beautiful women at the resort that would’ve been happy to oblige you.”
“But then I wouldn’t be here with my pretend wife, trying to get to know more about her.”
Her eyes don’t waver from mine as she takes a sip of her cocktail. “Do you really want to get to know me?”
“The fake you, yes. I don’t want to get cornered by one of the triplets and not know my facts.”
“Are they in fact, triplets?”
I shake my head. “I haven’t got a bloody clue, to be honest with you. Fake tits all look the same at the end of the day.”
Her mouth falls open into a sexy little O and images of other ways I can make that happen pop straight into mind. “I named them Muffy, Tuffy, and Buffy. The names seemed fitting,” she says with a shrug.
I crack the fuck up. “Then that is what we’ll call them until they leave.”

“Do you know when that is? Or what room they’re in?”
I lean over the table and pick her hand up. “They leave after us, and no, I don’t, thank goodness. I don’t care either. I made you a promise and I always keep my promises.” I bring her hand to my lips and let them linger against her skin until a passer-by makes a comment about us being in love.

Not love, lust though, and I couldn’t be happier that I chose her to be my distraction this week. When I finally let go of her hand, she picks up her drink and finishes it.

“Want another one?” I ask, already standing by the time she nods. I lean down and kiss the top of her head, inhaling the scent of her shampoo. The smell of grapefruit assaults my senses, making my heart race. I groan as I walk into the restaurant. I could’ve easily waited for the waitress to come back to us, but I needed to step away from Jade for a minute. She’s fucking deadly with her innocent façade and I have a strong reason to believe I’m going to fall victim to her and love every minute of it.
When I walk out, there’s a bloke talking to her as if it’s an everyday occurrence. I have never been jealous of any man until now. The pure rage I feel, watching him talk to my pretend wife almost takes over my body, yet I find the will to let it go. Who am I to stand in the way of her potential hook-ups?

Excerpt:
He waved over his head and kept moving, looking down to make sure his leg didn’t get caught on anything in the crowded space. While the trajectory of his leg could be controlled well because he had an intact knee joint, he couldn’t feel if anything below his knee got knocked or caught when he was in close quarters. It made the navigating somewhat more difficult, and since he preferred not to fall on his ass in front of half the town, he kept his gaze down.

Which was why he knocked right into something, eliciting a squeak that jolted him out of his hyperfocused state. His hands shot out in reflex, and he caught whatever—whoever—it was as they stumbled. The other person’s weight pulled him off-balance, and he was forced to take another step, planting his good leg to keep upright. The extra step meant that his victim was now virtually under him, bent back in a slight dip as he held what was definitely a her.

His gaze moved up from a set of perfect breasts snug in stretchy azure fabric with a deep V in the front, and on to a neck that was smooth and slim. And then he reached the face, that face, the face that haunted him day in and day out, even when he wanted nothing more than to be free of it.

“Sorry,” he murmured as they stayed frozen in their embrace, T.J.’s big brown eyes blinking at him. But then his gaze dropped, against his will, to her breasts again, and he jerked both him and T.J. upright, setting her away as much as he could in the middle of the tables, stools, and people.

T.J. cleared her throat and smoothed her tight, short dress. Vaughn was caught speechless at the vision of his wholesome, lifelong best friend wearing something that looked like it belonged in a Los Angeles nightclub. The brilliant shade of blue contrasted with her black hair and golden skin, making her glow like some sort of goddess.

Fuck, she was beautiful.

Excerpt

I sit outside on a bench, looking at the scuffs on the tips of my black leather shoes. The bottoms are worn from wearing them while riding my bike. It was the only sign that set me apart from the other rich kids where I grew up. Other than Cruise, no one rode motorcycles or had dealt with anything worse than getting a warning after getting busted for smoking, skipping school, sneaking out, smoking weed, getting drunk, or driving over the speed limit. The list could go on.

I have a car. I just don’t drive it much, preferring the freedom I feel on my bike. It wasn’t just my clothes or the bike that set me a part. None of them had lived, breathed, existed simply because their soul mate did. Not even now.

From the moment I saw her, I knew Sara Jane was it for me, an angel in a Catholic school uniform, eating a candy bar. She couldn’t have been more innocent. Except she was. The girl had barely been kissed. It’s like she had been waiting to meet me, as if she had saved herself for me. How a girl who looked that good and smelled even sweeter remained untouched for so long was beyond me.

I would have loved her no matter what. She could have been a prostitute, and I would have only seen her halo. I was a ship navigating a stormy sea, but she called me to her lighthouse, a beacon shining in the dark. It was never about her innocence, or the sins I had inherited. The day I met Sara Jane was about two lives that weren’t meant for only one lifetime, but destined to be together forever.

Maybe that’s what had given me the confidence to break away from the kids I grew up with. I knew I was meant for something bigger than a life of partying and getting high socially.

I was meant for Sara Jane, and she for me.
Tracey’s Review

Well, I finally got my hot little hands on SAVIOR, the second book in the Kingwood Duet by author S.L. Scott, and it was everything that I was hoping. I was hanging onto the cliff that Suzie threw readers over at the end of SAVAGE (Book 1) by my fingernails, y’all, and dying to see what was next for Sara Jane and Alexander. SAVIOR started out with a bang, and, friends, there is no break in the action, the suspense, and the glorious passion of it all, from the first page to the last.

As I was reading SAVIOR, I kept thinking about what a range Suzie has with her books. The two books in the Kingwood Duet are unlike anything else of hers that I’ve read, and they are riveting and wonderful in their own way. There is such a depth of emotion between Alexander and Sara Jane, a bond that nothing, and I mean nothing can break. And, while that’s a common theme in all of Suzie’s stories, there’s just something different about this series. Dark, dangerous, and filled with edge of your seat action, these books make for a story that you just can’t stop reading.

I couldn’t have asked for a more satisfying conclusion to the epic story that began with SAVAGE, and sped through SAVIOR to find the answers to all of the questions, the secrets that were waiting to be revealed, with barely a pause. Suffice to say that fans of romantic suspense NEED to have these books atop their TBR, because they will blow you away. There are plenty of angsty, heart-stopping reads out there, but Alexander King and his queen are in a class by themselves, so do yourself a favor and dive into them now.

EXCERPT:

“There seems to be an explosion in the jackass population,” I reply, and sigh, passing my glass to Kat for a refill.

“Where are you meeting them?” he asks, and I bite my lip.

“I don’t want to tell you.”

“Online,” he says with a nod.

“I didn’t say that!”

“Didn’t have to. If you met him at the gym or the grocery store, or somewhere else in person, you wouldn’t be embarrassed.”

“I’m not embarrassed.”

“Yes, you are. Otherwise, you wouldn’t mind telling me.”

“Fine.” I sigh and rub my forehead with my fingers. “I met them online.”

“Stop that,” he says.

“I don’t know where else I’d meet people,” I reply. “I’m at work at least fifty hours a week. I don’t do school or clubs or church, and I rarely go to the grocery store because I always eat here.”

“I could stop feeding you,” Mia interjects and I toss her a glare.

“I’m just saying, if you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always gotten.”

“I don’t understand any of the words you just said.” I squint at him, trying to process.

“Switch it up,” he says with a grin. “Try to meet people somewhere else. I mean, you didn’t meet me online, and I’m not an asshole.”

“Sure, you’re cute, and you look like you have your shit together, but I suspect that once I got to know you I’d learn that you have mommy issues and fourteen dogs.”

“You might,” he says with a thoughtful nod. “I do hide those things well. All I’m saying is, stop using the dating sites and try meeting people in real life.”

“Yeah. Easy for you to say.” I pout into my wineglass. “Do I need to send you some money for this counseling session?”

“Nah, the first one’s on me,” he says, tossing that crazy-hot smile at me again. “Just don’t combine Star Wars and Star Trek anymore and that’s payment enough for me.”

He pulls a few bills out of his wallet and tosses them on the bar, then stands to leave.

“Have a good night, and good luck,” he says.

“Thanks.” Just as he’s almost out of view, I call out. “Wait! I didn’t ask your name.”

“Trevor,” he says, and my stomach immediately does at least four cartwheels. “Trevor Cooper.”

“You’re early,” is all I can think to say. My cheeks burning, my fingertips immediately tremble. “You’re not supposed to be here for two more days.”

“I like to come early. Get the lay of the land, that sort of thing.” He smiles and waves. “See you in a couple of days.”

He walks away, and as soon as I hear the front door close, I turn to my friends and just stare at them in utter horror.

“Tell me that didn’t just happen.”

Tracey’s Review

After the amuse bûche that Kristen threw us in BLUSH FOR ME hinting at what was to come for the ladies of Seduction, I couldn’t wait to see what she had up her sleeve. What she had was THE BEAUTY OF US, Riley’s and Trevor’s book, and I absolutely could not have enjoyed it more.

With the same mix of romance and suspense that I’ve come to expect and enjoy so much in Kristen’s previous books, THE BEAUTY OF US just hit all the marks for me. The characters are people that I truly wish that I could hang out with, the friendship, support, and camaraderie making the FUSION world one of my very favorite places. Riley and Trevor are absolutely perfect for each other, and different from any characters that I’ve read lately. With plenty of twists and turns to keep us on our toes, along with sexy time aplenty and a place that I love to visit, this was a book that I could not put down.

I should have known that I would be in love with Trevor Cooper before the end of his first scene. Wry, witty, and smart, he’s one of my favorite of Kristen’s guys to date (note: I’m pretty sure that I say that about all of her guys, so…). He’s got Riley’s number, and proves to be the perfect fit for her, even though he’s very different from what she’s used to. I love the way that he takes charge to show her that all men are most certainly not created equal, and to be the one to show her just how special she is.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Riley as Kristen wrote her. Smart, strong, and savvy, she made me laugh many a time, and cry right along with her when things got crazy, too. I love the way that Kristen writes her female characters, from way back in the early days, right up through the FUSION books. Riley couldn’t be more different from her friends, but they all just fit. Women supporting women is something that I really cherish seeing, and Kristen has nailed it, writing the ladies of Seduction with wonderful friendship, support, and camaraderie.

With all of the ladies accounted for except Mia, you can bet that there’s some kind of story just waiting to be revealed. As in her other books, Kristen gives just enough juicy deets in THE BEAUTY OF US to make me want that next book now, now, NOW. In the meantime, 4.5 sassy, sexy, nerdy, heartwarming stars for THE BEAUTY OF US. This, and all of the books in the Fusion series, are perfect for fans of contemporary romance, and, if you’re a fan of Kristen Proby, they’re must-reads.

About Kristen Proby:

Kristen was born and raised in a small resort town in her beloved Montana. In her mid-twenties, she decided to stretch her wings and move to the Pacific Northwest, where she made her home for more than a dozen years.

During that time, Kristen wrote many romance novels and joined organizations such as RWA and other small writing groups. She spent countless hours in workshops, and more mornings than she can count up before the dawn so she could write before going to work. She submitted many manuscripts to agents and editors alike, but was always told no. In the summer of 2012, the self-publishing scene was new and thriving, and Kristen had one goal: to publish just one book. It was something she longed to cross off of her bucket list.

Not only did she publish one book, she’s since published close to thirty titles, many of which have hit the USA Today, New York Times and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers lists. She continues to self publish, best known for her With Me In Seattle and Boudreaux series, and is also proud to work with William Morrow, a division of HarperCollins, with the Fusion Series.

Kristen and her husband, John, make their home in her hometown of Whitefish, Montana with their two pugs and two cats.

EXCERPT

“Fine,” I said with mock exasperation,” I’ll give you the cliff notes.”

Tasha kept her eyes on me as she waited expectantly. She’d recently cut off her long black hair that had matched mine and Dru’s in length into a cute bob, and dyed it a bright red. It totally suited her.

“The party was great, fantastic even. I had a blast decorating, and the girls loved it. I took pictures to show you guys, and for the website,” I began, but Tasha waved her hand, encouraging me to get to the good stuff. “Jackson asked me out,” I said with a shrug, then teased her by saying, “But, I said no.”

“Wha?” Tasha cried, standing and putting her hands on her hips. “Why’d you do that? I thought he was your diary dream man. At least, that’s what Dru said.”

I raised my eyebrow at my twin, who just stuck out her tongue at me and continued stretching her quads.

“He’s also married, and still wears his wedding ring,” I replied, then sighed and added, “But, he assured me that the marriage is very much over, the ring was just an oversight, and we’re going to meet up for coffee this week. So, not a date, just coffee.”

“A coffee date,” Dru said with a grin.

“Shut up,” I replied, but couldn’t hold back my answering smile. “I don’t know, you guys, he scares me.”

“Why?” Tasha asked. “Because you’ve been so focused on the business, and before that, Mom, that you haven’t met a man for coffee, let alone had one between your legs, since you and Dru were at USC?”

“That’s not true,” I argued, offended and a little embarrassed about how right my younger sister was. “There was Joshua…”

“Ewww,” my sisters groaned in unison.

“You mean that creeper guy who kept taking you to Anime movies and trying to get you to give him a handy in the theater?” Dru asked. “You really want to count that guy?”

Release Blitz + 5 Star Review: Drunk Dial by Penelope Ward

Drunk Dial

By Penelope Ward

Release Date: August 21, 2017

Buy: Amazon / B & N / IBooks / Kobo / Audio / Paperback

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new, sexy standalone novel.

It seemed like a good idea at the time. Look up Landon Roderick, that boy from childhood whom I’d never been able to forget—even though he so easily forgot about me—and call him.

Then again, anything sounds like a good idea when you’ve had a little too much wine before bed, right? It was supposed to be just a quick, meaningless, prank call. Instead, I went off on him—unloading thirteen years of pent-up emotions.

I didn’t think he’d call me back.

I certainly could never have anticipated the weeks of sexually tense phone conversations that followed as I got to know the man he’d become.

Turned out, Landon had never really forgotten me, either. That special connection we had was still there. I opened up to him, but there were also things about me he didn’t know. And he had his own secrets.

Over the countless hours we talked on the phone, I wondered what would happen if we actually saw each other. One night, I did something impulsive again. Only this time, I went to the airport and booked a ticket to California. We were about to find out if one phone call could bring two lost souls together or if my drunk dial really was all just a big mistake.

A complete STANDALONE.

After that evening, I hadn’t heard back from him for a few days.

Then, one night, a text came in from the same phone number I recognized as Landon’s. It was the first time he’d texted me.

I looked down to find he’d sent a photo.

I gasped.

It was a heavily tatted man set against the backdrop of the ocean at sunset. Oh, my. It was him—a selfie.

Fuck. Me. He was beautiful.

I wouldn’t have even known it was Landon were it not for the blue eyes I recognized instantly. The shaggy, caramel hair I remembered from the past was now a darker shade of brown and shorter, cropped closer to his head. His arms and his chest were inked, his body so perfect that if I squinted, it almost resembled carved stone.

I couldn’t stop looking at him. My eyes wanted nothing more than to explore the ridges and valleys of his stunning body.

Was this a cruel joke?

This was not Landon!

But, it was.

With my thumb and middle finger, I kept zooming in and out, examining the details of the ink across his chest and on his arms. There was really nothing sexier than a guy with perfect arms and a full sleeve tattoo.

Even though his lips seemed fuller than I recalled, they still curved into a familiar grin that oozed confidence. The eyes and that smile were the only traces of the boy I remembered. I wished I could’ve leapt through the screen to smell him, touch him.

“Hi, Landon,” I whispered, for a brief moment talking to the boy inside, not the man in front of me.

This Landon was the polar opposite of the Ivy League yuppie image previously in my head. The only thing the man pictured might have majored in was badassery. He looked like a rockstar, a rule breaker, displaying a sense of arousing danger—someone who must have had women from all walks of life drooling over him for the sheer fact that either they couldn’t have him or shouldn’t have him. It suddenly became clear why, as he’d alluded to, a woman might have been begging him for sex. That made me wonder if he had any secret tattoos in spots I wasn’t allowed to see.

God.

A fire was burning inside of me, and I knew it was my crush exploding into a full-blown obsession.

A self-conscious feeling came over me. If I was scared to show him a picture of myself before, now I was really hesitant.

The message that went along with the photo simply read:

Now show me you.

Michel’s Review

Expect the unexpected in Drunk Dial by Penelope Ward.  It’s not the usual second chance romance or a friends to lovers romance. It’s a story of self redemption and forgiveness that finds itself in the middle of a love story.

Rana Banana Saloomi has a moment of drunken inspiration or should I say insanity and drunk dials a childhood friend who meant the world to her when her world was anything from perfect.  She hung onto those wonderful childhood moments, as well as all the hurt that came along with it.  She’s harbored some resentments and misconceptions of the truth and in a drunken moment she decides to confront her past.  What started as a drunken conversation with her childhood friend, Landon Roderick, quickly escalates into a meaningful long distance friendship/ possible romance.  Those late night conversations and little confessions are something all together different when they finally meet face to face after thirteen years.

Growing up has been a painful experience for them both in very different ways.  Both are carrying scars and harboring secrets that could crush their budding adult relationship.  They are both holding back because they are fearful of facing the realities of their past lives. They are fearful of losing each other.  The one thing neither of them realized is the friendship they formed as kids was strong enough to withstand them as adults.  After all they are still the same people … just a little altered and scarred from life.

I won’t say more because of spoilers but I will say Penelope Ward once again delivered an unforgettable romance that touches the heart in so many ways.  Drunk Dial is more than a phone call that went out of control, it’s Rana and Landon’s chance to become complete and comfortable with the life they are living now.

I absolutely loved this book!

New Release + 2017 Favorite + 6 Star Reviews: Wish You Were Here by Renee Carlino

Wish You Were Here

By Renee Carlino

Buy: Amazon

You know when you’re looking at someone and you can’t help but smile at how oblivious they are to their own charm? That’s what was happening to me, and it was making me feel…happy. Euphoric. Something indescribable. It was like we already knew each other, like we had met in a previous life. Memories that didn’t exist began exploding in my mind like fireworks.

Charlotte has spent her twenties adrift, searching for a spark to jump-start her life and give her a sense of purpose. She’s had as many jobs as she’s had bad relationships, and now she’s feeling especially lost in her less-than-glamorous gig at a pie-and-fry joint in Los Angeles, where the uniforms are bad and the tips are even worse.

Then she collides—literally—with Adam, an intriguing, handsome, and mysterious painter. Their serendipitous meeting on the street turns into a whirlwind one-night stand that has Charlotte feeling enchanted by Adam’s spontaneity and joy for life. There’s promise in both his words and actions, but in the harsh light of morning, Adam’s tune changes, leaving Charlotte to wonder if her notorious bad luck with men is really just her own bad judgment.

Months later, a new relationship with Seth, a charming baseball player, is turning into something more meaningful, but Charlotte’s still having trouble moving past her one enthralling night with Adam. Why? When she searches for answers, she finds the situation with Adam is far more complicated than she ever imagined. Faced with the decision to write a new story with Seth or finish the one started with Adam, Charlotte embarks on a life-altering journey, one that takes her across the world and back again, bringing a lifetime’s worth of pain, joy, and wisdom.

Excerpt

“You’re making love sound tragic,” I said.

“No”—he shook his head—“I wouldn’t want it any other way. Tell me about us. What do we like to do?”

“Paint and sail and eat and drink. Just simple things.” “Don’t forget about sex,” he said.
“Yeah, lots of sex. Before the children were born we

“We were practically naked every second of the day.”

“I like that.”

“When they got older, we’d sneak away for weekends and leave them at my mom’s.”

“What are they like? Our children.”

“Happy. That’s all we wished for. We put our love first and it just spilled over into them and now they’re happy.”

Tears sprang from my eyes and ran down my cheeks. Isn’t that what we all hope for when it comes to our children?

His tone suddenly changed. “That’s beautiful, Char- lotte.” It was like he was waking up from the dream. I didn’t want to go back to reality yet, but I knew these fantasies were just to help Adam get his mind off things.

“I can imagine a long life with you,” he said. “I can imagine what a great wife you’d be.”

I pulled my hand out of his. “The story is about you and me.” He didn’t say anything; he just nodded and then continued to stare out the window. I bent and kissed the top of his head again, and whispered, “It’s about us. Don’t take that away from me.”

Robin’s Review

I think I may have found a new Renee Carlino favorite! Wish You Were Here has all of the elements of a great romance, although I would probably classify this story as a mixture of contemporary romance and women’s fiction.

Our protagonist is Charlotte Martin. She’s drifting in a sea of limbo – jumping from career to career but never feeling satisfied by any of her choices. Dating different men but never finding the passion to commit. Instead, Charlotte chooses to play it safe alongside her lifelong best friend, Helen.

Charlotte and Helen are wandering home from a bar one night when they run across Adam, who is standing in the middle of the sidewalk and looking very lost. He seems a bit confused, so Charlotte and Helen decide to help him with directions. Adam is handsome and kind, charismatic and extremely endearing. And because there is such an ease about him, Adam makes it easy for Charlotte to do something spontaneous. She hangs out with Adam all night long.

What they share that night feels promising to Charlotte, but the next morning Adam is very different, and she sees that she was wrong. During the coming months, Charlotte realizes she’s having trouble moving on from her encounter with Adam. Even as she considers dating Seth, her feelings for Adam continue to nag at her. Charlotte is forced to conclude that she fell in love with Adam, and she recognizes that she needs closure.

Carlino’s characters are interesting, and her protagonist in this novel, Charlotte, undergoes extensive character growth. Wish You Were Here has clever dialogue with laugh-out-loud humor in all of the right places. The descriptive writing is also outstanding. For example, Carlino transformed a visual of a famous landmark into an experience of the senses. That scene in the book truly impressed me.

Perhaps the best feature of Wish You Were Here is the focus on selfless, pure love – the kind of love that only makes your heart sing. A novel with two love interests can be a hard sell, but please don’t let that hold you back from reading this story. I promise that the manner in which Renee Carlino wrote this novel is pure class. There was never a point that this story felt like a true love triangle.

Wish You Were Here triggered many of my emotions ranging from joy to tears, but after crying those tears, Carlino pieced my heart back together. As I take a final look back at Wish You Were Here, I realize how truly special this story is. I highly recommend reading this 6-star novel! It’s one of my favorite this year!

Michel’s Review

Wow! Renee Carlino astounded me and left me emotionally floored in a very good way.  It took a lot of ugly tears and emotional hiccups along the way but the end result was so worth the emotional journey.  The epilogue validated every single reason I believe in love.

I can honestly say that I suffered a very serious book hangover for days after reading this book.

The first chapter introduces the reader to Charlotte, a twenty seven year old woman still struggling to find her niche in life.  She’s had as many bad jobs as she’s had bad relationships.  She’s educated and has tried many different types of jobs.  Nothing seems to stick. She’s still working a crappy waitress job with crappy uniforms, crappy tips, and a crappier boss. She’s become perpetually stuck in life. Even though her life is less than stellar, she is eternally optimistic and is still searching for the right fit.  She’s constantly comparing her non achievements in life to her over achieving, younger brother who’s on the road to success.  Her parents are bewildered by her life choices.  Her best friend, who is also perpetually stuck in her twenties, is her biggest cheerleader and lifetime roommate in their crappy apartment.  One bad breakup ( the BFF) leads to a night that changes the course of her life.  She meets a random stranger on the street and immediately makes a connection that leads to the most unusual but very memorable one night stand.

An adventurous one night stand that is filled with spontaneity, maple donuts, and forgotten Chinese food leads to a confusing and somewhat degrading walk of shame the next morning.  Charlotte can’t seem to forget the night she spent with Adam, the vivacious artist with a thirst for life. His spontaneity and pure joy marked her soul.

Months later, she’s finally ready to move on when she meets a sexy baseball player, Seth, on an online dating site.  What begins as a fun flirtation starts developing into a real relationship that has potential of being the very thing she’s been searching for.  Everything is perfect until it’s not.  There’s something holding her back and that something is her one night stand with Adam.  From that point on everything begins to change and spiral out of control.  Her best friend is moving on in life and grasping the adulting concept.  Her successful baby brother has become her new life coach and roommate.  Seth has made it to the major leagues and wants her along for the ride.  The problem is that Charlotte is still stuck in her life.  Maybe she needs to go back to the beginning or back to the one night that still haunts her thoughts.  She needs some kind of closure from the disastrous one night stand that muddled her direction in life.  The answers aren’t what she was expecting nor are they black and white.  Adam’s life is anything but carefree and spontaneous.  He’s a different man than the one she met on the street.  Now that she has the answers, the choices are hers to make.  Does she let go of Seth, the man who offers her everything she’s looking for in life or does she take the risk and follow Adam on a spontaneous adventure that has no guarantees of a future?

Choices are never easy and many times they aren’t right or wrong.  They are merely  stepping stones in the journey of life.  The most important thing is accepting that choice and letting it become part of life’s compass.  Eventually it will lead Charlotte to the place she was meant to be.

I’m usually not a fan of love triangle themed romances but this novel was an unusual triangle that had all the “feels” from every angle.  I loved both men equally and swooned over them both.  What I loved most is how they both loved Charlotte.  They both loved her unconditionally, without measure, or expectations.  They accepted her as she was.  They both encouraged her to become something better for herself rather than for them.  They wanted her to have everything she deserved in life.  Most of all, they wanted her to know she was loved no matter what happened in her life. They both gave her pure unconditional  love.

I’m choking up with tears as I write this review.  Thinking about all that Charlotte experienced, the pain, joy, and rebirth, was phenomenal.  This novel gave Charlotte the potential to experience all of the possibilites offered in life.  I think we all strive to experience the pure love Charlotte received.

Wish You Were Here by Renee Carlino is more than a romance novel, it is an amazing reading adventure. It has become one of my all time favorite books.

Exclusive Excerpt

When I woke up on my sixteenth birthday, I didn’t leap out of bed to go get my driver’s license. I wasn’t thinking about the appointment I had to buy my first car that afternoon—a car that I’d been saving for since the day I turned fifteen and was legally able to work. I didn’t give two shits about going to the mall, or opening presents, or eating a fucking piece of fucking cake. All I wanted for my birthday was to sleep through it, because whenever I was awake, so was my gnawing, soul-crushing pain. I could feel it chewing through the lining of my stomach, devouring my once bubbly personality, sucking the energy from my bones like marrow, swallowing my will to live. Being eaten alive hurt. Being awake hurt. Being asleep didn’t.

I reluctantly opened my eyes and glanced over at the nightstand. The red numbers on the clock announced that I’d slept past noon again. The blueberry muffin sitting next to it with a candle shoved haphazardly in the top told me that my mom must have come in and tried to wake me up. My wide-open blinds—which were letting in an obscene amount of summer sun—let me know that she’d tried more than once. And that little white pill and glass of water on my nightstand? Well those only pissed me off.

I sat up and squinted at the assorted bullshit on the table until I spotted my pack of Camel Lights. Swinging my spindly legs over the edge of the mattress, I reached past the food and water, opting for poison instead. I lit a cigarette and waited for that comforting, calming first inhalation to do its thing, but even smoking had become joyless. Just like everything else, I was going through the motions.

Hand to mouth.

Inhale.

Exhale.

Repeat.

I ashed my cigarette in an empty Altoids tin on the nightstand and stared at the pill my mother had left for me—the tiny white hope that had turned out to be just another disappointment. I picked it up and inspected it. If it hadn’t had the word PROZAC stamped on the side of it I would have assumed they’d just been giving me Tic Tacs.

That shit did nothing. Nothing but mute the vibrant colors of my world to a dirty, dull gray. Instead of my feelings being a violent riot of bitter, angry crimsons, churning, crashing ceruleans, and blinking, cautionary yellows, my inner world was now as gray as the cloud of smoke that hung four feet above the floor and three feet below the ceiling in my bedroom. As gray as my skin, where it draped between my ribs and puddled in the hollows of my cheeks and eye sockets.

As gray as the fading knight tattoo on the inside of my wedding ring finger.

I threw the glorified breath mint across the room and listened to the plink, plink, plink sound it made as it bounced off the wall, onto my “desk”—which was just two filing cabinets and an old door that my mom had scrounged up at Goodwill and spray painted black—and landed in a heap of shiny army-green nylon on the floor.

My chest felt as if someone had come up behind me and yanked the laces on an invisible corset. Tears stabbed at the corners of my eyes as images began flashing, unbidden, behind them. Images of a skinhead standing behind me at my locker, sliding an army-green flight jacket up my arms and over my shoulders to warm my perma-chilled skin. Images of his smile when he turned me around to admire the fit. I’d never seen him smile before. Not like that. Making him do it again soon became my reason for getting out of bed every morning.

Now what reason did I have? Knight was gone. All I had left was his stupid fucking jacket.

“Seems like all we’ve done these last two years is fuck and fight. We’ve got to figure out a way to be around each other now that you’re back. I don’t want to bump into you on the street and watch you run in the other direction.”

I couldn’t agree more. “We used to be friends once. Maybe we could get back to that.”

“Friends would be good.”

Silas pulled off his faded brown baseball hat and combed his fingers through his hair. It was getting a bit long and could probably use a trim, not that I’d advocate for one. When he was on top of me, my hands loved to wander through those soft strands and grip them tight. That and his sculpted ass.

Oh, lordy. Control yourself, Felicity! We had just agreed to be friends. I had made a rule. No sex with Silas. What was wrong with me?

“Are you okay?” Silas asked.

My cheeks were flushed and I was starting to sweat. “Great. This shrimp is just really spicy,” I lied.

He dug back into his food as the awkward silence descended again. While I chewed, my eyes wandered around the room so I wouldn’t stare at the man in my guest chair.

The Fan Mountain Inn had impeccably clean and stylish rooms. I had plenty of space for my abundant luggage, and the wide desk provided a more than adequate workspace. But right now, this room was much, much too small.

Silas sat by the door while I swiveled nervously at my desk chair. Between us was the bed. The same bed where we’d had sex just a week ago. Seeing him next to it wasn’t helping me push thoughts of sex aside.

“You were jealous, weren’t you? The other day when you saw me talking to Maisy in the office.”

“What?” I said, pretending to be surprised. “I wasn’t jealous.” My declaration came out in a high-pitched squeak.

Silas smirked, trying to fight back a smile, but it was pointless. He burst out laughing, filling the room with sound as his head tipped back and he let loose.

Even though I was embarrassed he’d busted me on the jealousy thing, I couldn’t keep the corners of my mouth down. Silas’s laughter was a deep rumble, a hearty sound that could warm the coldest of souls. I hadn’t heard it nearly enough lately.

The last time I remembered hearing him laugh had been at Jess and Gigi’s wedding. We’d both had too much to drink and had found ourselves in the backseat of his truck. He’d discovered the Spanx that my satin dress required and had laughed his ass off as he tried to yank them off. That seemed like eons ago.

Silas got control of his laughter and bent forward, resting his elbows on his thighs. He shook his head a few times and then lifted his eyes to mine as he smiled.

Breathtaking. He was breathtaking.

Silas’s smile transformed his face. Dimples broke across his cheeks. His eyes warmed and crinkled. Those soft lips parted, revealing his flawless white teeth.

I was a sucker for that smile and smolder. All he had to do was snap his fingers and I’d leap over the bed and crawl into his lap.

“You’re blushing, Felicity. Are you going to lie and blame it on the shrimp again?”
