Oh, my goodness, flames. Flames are shooting out of my e-reader, and I’m down for the count. Author Meghan March has proven time and again that she can bring the heat, and she has done an excellent job of it in REAL DIRTY, the first book in her new Real Dirty Duet.

But, wait, there’s more. Because not only are Boone and Ripley hotter than all heck together. The sass, the snark, the sarcasm, the humor, all of the things that Meghan does so well, are here and in fine form, as well, and watching the interactions between the two of them is truly entertaining, as well as downright combustible.

The intensity between Ripley and Boone is off the charts hot, and they have their hands full with each other, because they are both headstrong to the nth degree. This just serves to draw them to each other all the more, because what guy doesn’t want a woman that can swing a Louisville Slugger like a boss? And what strong woman doesn’t want a guy that will lighten her burden and make her feel like a goddess once in a while? See, match made in Heaven…

The groundwork has been laid for one heck of a follow-up in REAL SEXY, and I cannot wait to get my hands on it when it comes out. In the meantime, REAL DIRTY is, without a doubt, one of my most favorite reads recently, and is an easy 5+ stars for me. You’re going to want to meet Ripley and Boone yourselves, so do yourself a favor and snap this one up, like, stat.

On the surface, Dr. Elle McCray has it all together. Professional, successful, she’s happy on her own, not needing the friendships or relationships that would require any real emotional investment. Lane Cannon knows what it’s like to be on the outside, and he knows how to read people. Try as she might to make him feel ‘less than,’ Lane can feel the current running between them, and knows that Elle does, too. Lane’s not about to miss the opportunity to find out what makes her tick, and knows just how to do it.

I read a lot of books by a lot of different authors, and while there are some that hit a home run for me each time, it’s likely that I will enjoy some books more than others. With author Roni Loren, though, I know exactly what I’m going to be getting, and that I will love it, every.single.time. I’ve inhaled everything from Roni’s Loving On the Edge series to her standalone reads, and all of them just blow me away. BY THE HOUR, the second book in her Pleasure Principle series, is no exception.

Having dealt with betrayal at the most intimate level, it’s easy to understand why Elle keeps others at a distance. Her holier-than-thou, I don’t need anyone attitude, though, is like catnip for Lane. Living the life he has, he’s pretty much a master at reading people’s tells, and he knows that there’s much more to Elle than meets the eye. What starts out as a sort of one-upsmanship between the two evolves almost immediately into something much hotter, much more intense, than either one was expecting.

It can be difficult to successfully navigate the line between an uncomfortable versus an intensely charged interaction, but Roni writes sexy, emotional scenes with finesse and an eye to detail that draws me in every single time. Seeing Lane and Elle work through the impediments from their respective pasts to get to a place of trust, and to do so with respect, admiration, and finally, love for each other made this one of the best things I’ve read lately.

If you’re looking for a book that features smart, self-aware characters I highly recommend BY THE HOUR. This is an easy 5-star read for me. I can’t wait to see what’s next in Roni’s world, and suggest that you add any and all of her books to your TBR.

The Brooklyn Bruisers are back and heading into the playoffs for the Stanley Cup.  The next few months are going to be a grueling, time consuming, and demanding on every level.  Forget having a personal life, time for friends, and real time with family.  Put all the problems aside and focus on the game.  The cup is within reach, it’s worth the sacrifices made.  The players for the Brooklyn Bruisers aren’t the only ones making the sacrifices.  Their support staff and families are feeling the crunch as well. The last thing Lauren Williams wants is to be working with the Brooklyn Bruisers, especially during the play offs. She hates hockey and hates the time demanded by the team.  Stepping in as the assistant to the Bruisers owner is one thing, spending all her time with the team is another. How can she do her job and avoid the team? There is one player in particular that she will avoid at all cost.  Goalie Mike Beacon ruined her life, broke her heart, and left her hanging out to dry.  She will never let that happen to her again.  She learned the hard way and still carries the scars from being burned.

Mike Beacon never forgot the passionate year he spent with Lauren.  She was his everything, the reason his heart beat.  He had his reasons for leaving her and returning to his wife and daughter.  It wasn’t because he didn’t love her, he had a responsibility to his family.  He had to make sacrifices in order for them to survive what was to come.

Lauren is back in his life.  She’s back with the team.  He’s more than determined to win her heart and keep her by his side this time.  This is the most important win of his life, she’s more important than the Stanley Cup and the team.  The only thing standing in his way is Lauren’s stubbornness and his teenage daughter’s attitude. He’s the toughest goalie in the league and conquering the two women in his life is the hardest game he’s ever played.

Once again Sarina Bowen had my full attention.  In the two previous books of the Brooklyn Bruiser series, readers were given a very distinct and different impression of Lauren Williams.  She was not a very likable or impressionable character.  Sarina let the readers become intimate with the real Lauren hiding beneath the surface.  The woman loved with her complete heart and was badly burned.  To make matters worse, the repercussions of the break up were more than most people could bear.  It’s no wonder she hated everything about hockey.  What impressed me the most was her strength of character, her sense of morality, and her drive to become a better person.  I loved that she didn’t let heartbreak ruin her, she embraced it, moved on and made a good life for herself.  She was a classy woman to be admired.  It’s no wonder Mike Deacon was hopelessly in love with her.

I highly recommend Pipe Dreams by Sarina Bowen.  It can be read as a stand alone novel or in series order.  The Brooklyn Bruisers are out to win your heart.

Teague walked along the sidewalk outside the White House, trying his damnedest to figure out why he’d asked her to coffee. Bloody hell, as Kamal would say, had he lost his mind? In those moments in the press conference when he’d been replying to questions while he struggled not to look at her, he’d felt like twelve years had been stripped away in one supercharged moment. He still felt less than, and she was still the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen.

Her thick dark hair was long, just the way he’d always loved it, and certain parts of his anatomy had no trouble remembering how he used to wrap those silky tresses around his hands as he pumped into her from behind, long and slow.

“So, what’s it been?” he asked, even though he knew exactly, nearly down to the minute. “Ten years?”

“Twelve,” she answered. “I was twenty and you were twenty-two the last time we had coffee.”

And sex, his mind added.

“Well, it appears the years have been good to you.”

“And obviously, they’ve been successful for you,” she added. They each sipped their drinks, the awkward bleeding all over them.

“So, you married? Living with someone?” he asked nonchalantly. Yeah, sure, that.

She shook her head. “No. I was seeing someone back in Boston where I moved from, but it wasn’t going anywhere.” She looked up at him from under her lashes. “And you?”

“No. No time for all that. I work eighty hours a week and spend the other few at the gym or sleeping. I’m not all that exciting.”

She shifted on her chair, and her blouse slipped a touch, giving him a peek at the cleavage that hid beneath. His heart raced and his skin heated.

“Well, from what I heard on the news earlier, today’s been enough excitement for a few years at least.”

He chuckled softly. “It’s been a strange day for sure.”

Ava

I’m just about to text Rowan back when the door opens, and he’s standing in the entrance. His face is unreadable. He doesn’t enter. I look down at my shoes, awkwardness filling my stomach.

“It just seems like everything is in such chaos. What makes us want to bring a child into this mess?”

His dark eyes soften as they hold mine, but he doesn’t answer immediately. I love that he doesn’t pat me on the head and tell me to stop being ridiculous. He takes my fears seriously.

“It’s our royal duty,”he finally says.

Now I’m frowning.

“That’s your only reason?”

“No…”

He touches the side of my cheek with his thumb, and I wait.

“I’d also like to see what happens when we take half of you and mix it with half of me.”

My frown softens a little.

“I have dreamed of our babies.”

I remember my chubby, dark-haired daydreams.

“I expect we’ll have an overly analytical, extremely controlled little leader,” he says,and I sigh and nod. “Or a thief who steals cars and races them away.”

“Rowan!”

I push his arm, ready to storm across the room.

Tracey’s Review

I’m going to have to say that this is probably my favorite book yet in the Dirty Players series by author Tia Louise. There are all of the people that we’ve come to know and love (yes, even the crotchety queen mother) in previous books, and plenty of the intrigue that makes this series what it is, but something about this book just really grabbed me, and I could not put it down.

Maybe it’s that Tia Louise has so perfectly touched on issues that concern the world right this very minute. Or the way that Rowan, all alpha but totally adoring, makes Ava feel like she’s finally safe and home. Or that Ava has finally completely come into her own, and is an equal match for her royal husband. All of these things together make for an intriguing, passionate, pertinent read that I thoroughly enjoyed, and that hooked me from the first page.

There is all of the usual sizzle and steam that Tia does so well, and, oh, my goodness, was it wonderfully done here. The magnetic pull between Rowan and Ava is palpable, so much so that it virtually jumps off the page. They’ve absolutely found a way to keep their marriage fresh, and, boy, does it work. They are a true fairy tale, and so completely likable that I would love to see more of them. Cal and Zelda remain a breath of fresh air, and I loved catching up with them here.

DIRTY THIEF is a great blend of passion, political maneuvering, and just desserts, and I highly recommend it. An easy 4.5 stars for Ava, Rowan, and all of the folks from Monagasco. If you haven’t read this series, you’re missing out, and should add it to your TBR right away.
