Genre: Contemporary Romance

Publisher: HEA Press

Friction a SEXY All-New Standalone from Emily Snow is now LIVE!

Former overachiever Lucy WillIams sucks at adulting.

Recent divorce, check.

Pending lawsuit, check.

A move back to Boston to live with her mother, triple check.

It can’t get much worse, right?

When she starts her new marketing job at EXtreme Effects, she’s positive shit’s stopped hitting the fan. Sure, what she’s advertising is a little … unorthodox, but it pays the bills. And since she’s seconds away from becoming Lucy Williams: Wednesday Night Bingo Enthusiast, she needs money to get the hell out of her mother’s house.

The only problem is her boss, Mr. Extreme himself: Jace Exley. He’s everything any sane woman dreams of—alpha, successful, ridiculously gorgeous. He’s also Lucy’s worst nightmare. Because like every overachiever, she has that underachiever she brushed off. The slacker who, once upon a time ago, was the object of her dirtiest schoolgirl fantasies.

Jace Exley—with his sarcastic smirk and delicious accent—just happens to be that guy.

And the friction between them?

Well, that’s the only adulting Lucy seems to be winning at.

Tracey’s Review

Have you heard this one? A girl walks into a room…and gets almost the biggest shock of her life…

And, once again, author Emily Snow has knocked it out of the park with this sexier-than-sin, frenemies-to-lovers read that is FRICTION. Yep, I still have flames coming out of my ears after this one, because it was STEAMY. But in typical Emily fashion, there is so much more to this book than just the combustible chemistry between the hot mogul and the uptight woman that finds herself working for him. So much more.

To say that life is not going Lucy Williams’ way is an understatement. So she’s hardly surprised when a blind job interview lands her squarely in the domain, and at the mercy, of none other than Jace Exley, the guy that Lucy once wrote off as the guy most likely to amount to nothing. Fate, Karma, Destiny, call her what you will, is a fickle, fickle lady, with a memory miles long, so how ironic that Lucy, out of a job and down on her luck, would need to make nice with her one-time nemesis.

Emily Snow can write a hot alpha guy, and she has done a superb job with Jace. Being in charge comes naturally to him, and he’s none-too-subtle about the fact that he’s the one calling the shots – and enjoying it – with Lucy. But Jace is more than just a guy with a thriving, um, alternative business and a body and face to die for. He’s got those layers, the ones that aren’t apparent at a single glance. Discovering those layers is a lesson for Lucy, and one that fans the flames of her attraction and admiration.

I like Lucy a lot. Like others of Emily’s heroines, she’s got spine. Those life lessons? Yeah, they’re coming fast and furiously, and she’s not just sitting back and focusing on how bad things have gotten, she’s moving forward and cutting the dreck out of her life. Seeing her loosen up as she gets to know Jace and his world better only makes me like her more. And, Emily, if you’re reading this, MORE JAMIE. Because a girl’s best friend, especially one as feisty as Jamie, deserves a story of her own.

A book is a success for me if I can’t put it down, if I feel strongly about the characters, if the story is original and fresh, and Emily hits all those markers expertly in FRICTION. This book is an easy 5 sexy, compelling, page-flipping stars, and one that I won’t forget soon. It needs to be on your TBRs, guys, so grab it now, and thank me later.

Home Run

Boys Of Summer Series – Book 2

By Heidi McLaughlin

Buy: Amazon / B & N / IBooks / Kobo

Synopsis

LOVE ISN’T A GAME . . .

I’ve given up everything for the chance to play major league baseball. Everything. Now I’m so close I can practically hear the crowd chanting my name. There’s nothing that could take my dream away from me . . .

Unless I lose focus. And Ainsley Burke is the most beautiful, distracting woman I’ve ever met. When I’m with her, I can’t think of anything else.

But no matter how much I want Ainsley, there’s no room for love in my game plan. I can give her a quick tour of the bases, but that’s it. Then I have to let her go. If she wants to think I’m a love ’em and leave ’em player, fine.

All dreams require sacrifice. I just wish this one didn’t mean tearing out my own heart.

Michel’s Review

Home Run, the second book in the Boys of Summer series, by Heidi McLaughlin has released.  The Renegades are back and looking to make their mark this season.

Cooper Bailey has prepared for this moment his entire life.  He has finally moved up from the minor leagues to the major leagues.  It’s his rookie season with the Renegades and he’s feeling the pressure.  He has to prove that he is a valuable asset to the team.  He’s challenging a legendary player, trying to take his starting position.  Everything rides on the spring training season in Florida. He has to stay focused because he is finally chasing his dream.

Cooper Bailey never dreamed he’d meet a woman that could affect how he plays the game.  Nor did he dream a woman could capture his heart completely.  Ainsley Burke is an unexpected pleasure as well as his possible downfall.

Zookeeper Ainsley Burke has put her personal life on hold after she found out her mother is battling cancer.  She has changed her job position so that her schedule can work around her mother’s medical needs.  When she meets rookie Cooper Bailey at a community service event, she foresees the possibility of having something fun in her life for a few weeks.  After all he is only in Florida for spring training.

Life has a way of rearing it’s ugly head when things seem to be going well.  Cooper and Ainsley are both going to experience these obstacles and be tested beyond their limits.  It’s how they move forward that counts.  It could be the greatest season of their lives or it could be the season that destroys them both.

This book ran hot and cold for me.  I liked this book better than the first book in the series and felt a little more connected to the Renegades world.  Home Run started out with a bang but stalled throughout the middle of the book and the ending seemed a bit rushed.  At times I had a hard time connecting Cooper’s and Ainsley’s struggling relationship.  There were also other factors that seemed too coincidental in their story. I struggled with those coincidences. Overall I did enjoy the book but was hoping for a little more swoon worthy romance.

I am looking forward to what comes next in the Boys of Summer series.  Hopefully the Renegades will be chasing the pennant.

Taking Turns

The Turning Series – Book 1

By J A Huss

Buy: Amazon

Synopsis

I’ve never been afraid of the dark…but that doesn’t mean I wanted to live in it. And maybe everyone wants what they can’t have, but I should’ve thought it over before I accepted the key and unlocked the door to their forbidden world.

Number One is mostly silent. He watches me with them very carefully. His gaze never wanders. His interest never wanes.

Number Two is mostly gentle. But it’s the other side of him I like best. The wild side.

Number Three is mostly reserved. He refuses to cross the line. Even when I beg.

It was carnal, it was sensual, and it was erotic. That’s it. That’s all it was supposed to be. A trip into the dark. A peek into the forbidden.

I just didn’t expect to like them.

*****

I heard the door open and close and said nothing. And the footsteps coming down the hallway towards the bedroom. I even heard him say, “Hey.” So softly. “You awake?” Like he didn’t want to wake me.

I listened as he stepped into the closet. There was that slick sound a man makes when he pulls his tie through his shirt collar. I heard the unclasping of his watch. The jingle of his belt buckle and the shuffle of his pants as they dropped to the floor.

I even heard his moan as he stood over me. I could feel his shadow from the streetlamp outside like it was heat.

Then the bed creaked, the mattress sank. And his warm, hard body straddled me.

Still, I said nothing.

I just buried my face in the sweet scent of the pillow and closed my eyes, feigning sleep.

“Rochelle,” he whispered, leaning over me. His fingertips gently brushed the hair away from my shoulder. His mouth pressed against my skin. “Did you miss me? God, I’ve missed you. Two weeks is too long. We need to renegotiate.”

He nipped my neck. Kissed it. Licked my ear as he positioned himself to begin.

And I said… nothing.

Even though my name is not Rochelle.

That’s why I’m here. Tied up and gagged inside the closet. Sitting in the dark as three men on the other side of the door argue about where Rochelle went, why I was in her bed, and what they should do next.

I should be scared but I’m not.

I should be screaming, but I won’t.

Because this just feels very, very right.

And the only thing on my mind is… what will happen next?

End of Game

JA Huss is one of those authors that completely takes me by surprise with every new novel or new series she unleashes into the reading world.  Expect the unexpected.  Be prepared for twists and turns that add layers upon layers before reaching a concise conclusion or ending to a story.  The ending may just be the beginning or an unexpected revelation.  Be prepared to journey into the dark sensual world that not only fulfills the erotic fantasy but also delves into the minds of very unique individuals in the darkness.  With JA Huss there is no black or white, light or dark, right or wrong, or good and bad. It’s a combination of it all melding together to make one outstanding and thought provoking story.  The story holds the reader captive and leaves them wanting more.

After reading Taking Turns by JA Huss, I was completely floored by what I had just read.  It was not the typical erotic romance novel that revolves around the darker side of sex or menage scenes that scorch the pages.  It had those elements but also included so much more.  This book is about four characters driven by a dark need. Taking Turns is told through each characters POV with a very clear understanding of who is who in each passage.  Each character stands uniquely on their own merits with distinct and very likable personalities.  While their motivations are questionable, the reader gets a sense of who they are until JA Huss throws another layer to their persona.  What makes this book stand out was not the sex itself, it was how the sex scenes came into play, how each individual approached the situation, and what they gave to reach each situation.

In most cases, erotic romance walks a fine line in definition.  The romance tends to get lost or overpowered by the erotic elements.  I went into this book expecting that to happen. Throughout most of the book the erotic elements were the forefront of the story unfolding. It was questionable if a romance would develop and who would be the ones involved in the romance.  As each man’s personality materialized I found myself hoping he was the one. As the sexual heat intensified between the four, one man began to surface to the top. It is at that point the reader realizes that this story has had the romance all along but it was cleverly disguised as something else.  This is pure JA Huss brilliance at it’s best.

I can honestly say that I am still processing what I read in Taking Turns.  I have many questions that I know will be answered by the end of the series. I have no doubt that JA Huss is going to throw some new kinks into the mix.  She’s going to take the readers on a mind boggling journey before The Turning Series ends.

What started out as a game with no losers or winners has turned into a game of consequences.  I can’t wait to see what comes next in The Turning Series.  Turning Back will release on April 12, 2017.

Excerpt

I’m a woman on a mission when I step off my last flight at six o’clock at night, annoyed it took me an entire freaking day to get here since I made my plans at the last minute. As soon as I leave the rental car desk, I’m headed for my first destination. Logan’s shop.

He’s never going to know what hit him. My skirt is short, my heels are tall, and my hair, skin, and nails are perfect from the pampering I managed to sneak in this week.

I pull into the parking lot an hour and a half later, mostly because I was so busy singing along to every kick-ass female anthem on my playlist that I missed the turn and went fifteen miles in the wrong direction.

But no one needs to know that little detail.

The lights are still on, and Logan’s truck is parked in its normal spot alongside the building. No other cars remain in the lot.

I pull out my phone and switch it out of airplane mode. I told myself I kept it there all day because I was worried about the safety of my flights and obviously because of the FAA regulations, but that’s total bull.

I didn’t trust myself not to answer what must be at least a few messages from Logan. I wanted this to be a surprise. Like when Logan thought I might be pregnant, this is a discussion that needs to happen in person.

A few text messages pop up from him immediately, and they’re progressively more . . . let’s call it assertive.

My Sexy Man: Bruce, call me.

My Sexy Man: Seriously, babe. Call me.

My Sexy Man: CALL ME.

My Sexy Man: This radio silence shit will not fly. Call me, Bruce.

My Sexy Man: Banner Regent, don’t even try to dodge me. I know where you are, and I will come to you and show you how a real man handles this situation.

A smile spreads over my face. I’ve come to terms with a few things in the last twenty-four hours, and one of them is that I don’t care if I’m the first one to say those words I’ve been holding back. I love Logan Brantley, and I’m not going to let another day go by without telling him. To his face.

After I park, I slide out of the car, careful not to pull a Britney and flash anyone my vag because I’m going commando under this skirt, and strut my ass up to the entrance.

I push on the door that opens into the waiting room, but it doesn’t budge. Locked. Well, dammit, that’s not part of my plan. I bang on it, but no one comes. The beat of whatever rock song he’s listening to is thumping through the walls.

I pull my phone out of my wristlet and text him back.

Banner: Open the damn door.

A response pops up in seconds.

My Sexy Man: What door?

Banner: I’m waiting.

Tracey’s Review

OMG, OMG, O.M.Gosh! I read a lot, but there aren’t many times that I stop for virtually nothing, flipping pages like it’s my business, because I love a book so darned much. Okay, yes, there are, but, oh, my gosh. It’s only January, and author Meghan March has released two, yes, TWO, books that are on my 2017 Favorites list.

After the mother of all cliffhangers at the end of REAL GOOD MAN, Meghan totally brings it with this second book of her Real Duet series. More Banner, more Logan, more spurned Kentucky lady smackdowns, this book has it all. I found myself laughing out loud on more than one occasion, and when I say that I loved everything about this book, I mean everything.

If I thought that I couldn’t love Banner and Logan and the unexpectedly awesome relationship between them any more, I was wrong. Because, just, so much love. This is a couple that totally should not work together, but Meghan showed us in Book 1 that love rises above expectations. (And, yes, I said it, the ‘L’ word, because there’s plenty of it here in REAL GOOD MAN.) I credit both Banner and Logan for breaking through expected outcomes and stereotypes to forge a relationship that no one, not even themselves, saw coming, and making it stronger than all the things and people trying to break them apart.

There’s action aplenty in this book, as the mystery introduced in the first book comes to a dangerous and nail-biting conclusion. And, oh, did I say hot and steamy times that require a fan and copious amounts of icy beverage to cool this reader down? Yep, Logan and Banner are made for each other, and don’t hesitate to show it any chance that they get, sharing both passion and humor in a way that had me both grinning and wiping my forehead as I read.

If you’re not sure yet about this duet of books, let me assure you that they are at the top of my list of books that I’ve read lately that I would not hesitate to recommend. Meghan has won me over times a gazillion with the Real Duet books, and, if I could give them more than 5 stars, I would. No surprise, then, that REAL GOOD MAN nets 5+ steamy, passionate, addictive stars for a couple that stands out as one of my favorites, like, ever. Ever, y’all, so get your fingers clicking and snap these books up. You’re welcome.

The night I met Drew Jagger, he’d just broken into my new Park Avenue office.

I dialed 9-1-1 before proceeding to attack him with my fancy new Krav Maga skills.

He quickly restrained me, then chuckled, finding my attempted assault amusing.

Of course, my intruder had to be arrogant.

Only, turned out, he wasn’t an intruder at all.

Drew was the rightful occupant of my new office. He’d been on vacation while his posh space was renovated.

Which was how a scammer got away with leasing me office space that wasn’t really available for rent.

I was swindled out of ten grand.

The next day, after hours at the police station, Drew took pity on me and made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. In exchange for answering his phones while his secretary was out, he’d let me stay until I found a new place.

I probably should have acted grateful and kept my mouth shut when I overheard the advice he was spewing to his clients. But I couldn’t help giving him a piece of my mind.

I never expected my body to react every time we argued. Especially when that was all we seemed to be able to do.

The two of us were complete opposites. Drew was a bitter, angry, gorgeous-as-all-hell, destroyer of relationships. And my job was to help people save their marriages.

The only thing the two of us had in common was the space we were sharing.

And an attraction that was getting harder to deny by the day.

Excerpt

Drew

I hate New Year’s Eve.

Two hours in traffic to make it not even the nine miles home from LaGuardia. It was after ten o’clock at night. Why weren’t all these people at a party by now? Whatever tension two weeks in Hawaii had relieved was already back to coiling tighter and tighter inside me as the town car inched its way uptown.

I tried not to think about all the work I was coming back to—the endless string of other people’s problems to compound my own:

She cheated.

He cheated.

Get me full custody of the kids.

She can’t have the house in Vail.

All she wants is my money.

She hasn’t given me a blowjob in three years. Listen, asshole, you’re fifty, bald, pompous, and shaped like an egg. She’s twenty-three, hot, and has tits so young they almost reach up to her chin. You want to fix this marriage? Come home with ten Gs in fresh, crisp bills, and tell her to get on her knees. You’ll get your blowjob. She’ll get her spending money. Let’s not pretend it was ever more than it really was. That doesn’t work for you? Unlike your soon-to-be ex-wife, I’ll take a check. Make that out to Drew M. Jagger, Attorney at Law.

I rubbed the back of my neck, feeling slightly claustrophobic in the back of the Uber, and looked out the window. An old lady with a walker passed us.

“I’ll get out here,” I barked at the driver.

“But you have luggage?”

I was already exiting the back of the car. “Pop the trunk. It’s not like we’re moving anyway.”

Traffic was at a dead stop, and it was only two blocks to my building. Tossing a hundred-dollar tip at the driver, I grabbed my suitcase from the trunk and took in a deep breath of Manhattan.

I loved this city as much as I hated it.

575 Park Avenue was a restored pre-war on the southeast corner of Sixty-Third Street—it was an address that gave people preconceived notions about you. Someone with my last name had occupied the building since before the place was converted into overpriced co-ops. Which is why my office was allowed to remain on the ground floor when other commercial tenants were tossed out years ago. I also lived on the top floor.

“Welcome back, Mr. Jagger.” The uniformed doorman greeted me as he swung open the lobby door.

“Thanks, Ed. I miss anything while I was gone?”

“Nah. Same old, same old. Peeked in on your construction the other day, though. Looking good.”

“They use the service entrance down Sixty-Third like they were supposed to?”

Ed nodded. “Sure did. Barely heard them the last few days.”

I dropped my luggage inside my apartment, then headed back downstairs in the elevator to check things out. For the last two weeks, while I was screwing off in Honolulu, my office space had been getting a total renovation. Cracks in the high, plastered ceilings were to be patched and painted, and new floors installed to replace the old, worn parquet.

Thick plastic remained taped over all of the interior doorways when I walked in. The little furniture I hadn’t put in storage was also still covered with tarps. Shit. They aren’t done yet. The contractor had assured me there would only be finish work left by the time I returned. I was right to be skeptical.

Flicking on the lights, I was happy to find the lobby completely done, though. Finally, a New Year’s Eve with no horrible surprises for a change.

I took a quick look around, pleased with what I found, and was just about to leave when I noticed a light streaming from under the door of a small file room at the end of the hallway.

Thinking nothing of it, I headed to turn it off.

Now, I’m six foot two and a half, two hundred and five pounds, and maybe it was just my frame of mind, my not expecting to see anyone, but when I opened the door to the file room, finding her there scared the living crap out of me.

She screamed.

I took a step back through the door.

She got up, stood on the chair, and began yelling at me, waving her cell phone in the air.

“I’ll call the police!” Her fingers shook as she dialed nine, then one, and hovered over the last one. “Get out now, and I won’t call!”

I could have lunged for her, and the phone would have been out of her hand before she realized she hadn’t dialed the final digit. But she looked terrified, so I retreated another step and put my hands up in surrender.

“I’m not going to hurt you.” I used my best soothing, calm voice. “You don’t need to call the police. This is my office.”

“Do I look stupid to you? You just broke into my office.”

Your office? I think you took a wrong turn at the corner of Crazy and Nutjob.”

She wobbled atop the chair, holding both arms out to regain her balance, and then…her skirt fell to her feet.

“Get out!” She crouched down and grabbed her skirt, tugging it up to her waist as she turned her back to me.

“Do you take medication, ma’am?”

Medication? Ma’am? Are you joking?”

“You know what?” I motioned to the phone she was still holding. “Why don’t you push that last one and get the police over here. They can drive you back to whatever loony bin you escaped from.”

Her eyes widened.

For a crazy person—now that I was really looking—she was pretty damn cute. Fiery red hair piled on top of her head seemed to match her firecracker personality. Although from the looks of her blazing blue eyes, I was glad I’d held off on telling her that.

She pushed one and proceeded to report the crime of entering one’s own office. “I’d like to report a robbery.”

“Robbery?” I arched an eyebrow and looked around. A lone folding chair and crappy metal folding table were the only furniture in the entire space. “What exactly am I stealing? Your winning personality?”

She amended her complaint to the police. “A breaking and entering. I’d like to report a breaking and entering at 575 Park Avenue.” She paused and listened. “No, I don’t think he’s armed. But he’s big. Really big. At least six feet. Maybe bigger.”

I smirked. “And strong. Don’t forget to tell them I’m strong, too. Want me to flex for you? And maybe you should tell them I have green eyes. Wouldn’t want the police to confuse me with all the other really big thieves hanging out in my office.”

After she hung up, she stayed standing on the chair, still glaring at me.

“Was there also a mouse?” I asked.

“A mouse?”

“Considering you jumped up on that chair.” I chuckled.

“You find this funny?”

“Oddly, I do. And I have no fucking idea why. It should annoy the crap out of me that I come home from a two-week vacation and find a squatter in my office.”

“Squatter? I’m no squatter. This is my office. I moved in a week ago.”

She bobbled again while standing on her chair.

“Why don’t you get down? You’re going to fall off that thing and get hurt.”

“How do I know you’re not going to hurt me when I get down?”

I shook my head and contained my laugh. “Sweetheart, look at the size of me. Look at the size of you. Standing on that chair isn’t doing jack shit to keep you safe. If I wanted to hurt you, you’d be out cold on the floor already.”

“I take Krav Maga classes twice a week.”

“Twice a week? Really? Thanks for the warning.”

“You don’t have to ridicule me. Maybe I could hurt you. For an intruder, you’re really kind of rude, you know.”

“Get down.”

After a full minute stare-off, she climbed off the chair.

“See? You’re as safe on the ground as you were up there.”

“What do you want from here?”

“You didn’t call the police, did you? You almost had me there for a second.”

“I didn’t. But I can.”

“Now why would you go and do that? So they can arrest you for breaking and entering?”

She pointed down at her makeshift desk. For the first time, I noticed papers all over the place. “I told you. This is my office. I’m working late tonight because the construction crew was so loud today that I couldn’t get done what I needed to. Why would anyone break and enter to work at ten-thirty at night on New Year’s Eve?”

Construction crew? My construction crew? Something was going on here. “You were here with the construction crew today?”

“Yes.”

I scratched my chin, half believing her. “What’s the foreman’s name?”

“Tommy.”

Shit. She was telling the truth. Well, at least some of it had to be the truth. “You said you moved in a week ago?”

“That’s right.”

“And you rented the space from whom, exactly?”

“John Cougar.”

Both my brows shot up this time. “John Cougar? Did he drop the Mellencamp, by chance?”

“How should I know?”

This wasn’t sounding good. “And you paid this John Cougar?”

“Of course. That’s how renting an office suite works. Two months’ security, first and last month’s rent.”

I shut my eyes and shook my head. “Shit.”

“What?”

“You got conned. How much did all of that cost you? Two months’ security, first and last month? Four months in total?”

“Ten thousand dollars.”

“Please tell me you didn’t pay cash.”

Something finally clicked, and the color drained from her pretty face. “He said his bank was closed in the evening, and he couldn’t give me the keys until my check cleared. If I gave him cash, I could move in right away.”

“You paid John Cougar forty thousand dollars in cash?”

“No!”

“Thank God.”

“I paid him ten thousand in cash.”

“I thought you said you paid four months.”

“I did. It was twenty-five hundred a month.”

That did it. Of all the crazy shit I’d heard so far, thinking she could get space on Park Avenue for twenty-five hundred a month took the cake. I broke out in a fit of laughter.

“What’s so funny?”

“You’re not from New York, are you?”

“No. I just moved here from Oklahoma. What does that have to do with anything?”

I took a step closer. “I hate to break the news to you, Oklahoma, but you got ripped off. This is my office. I’ve been here for three years. My father the thirty before that. I was on vacation the last two weeks and had the office remodeled while I was gone. Someone named after a singer scammed you into giving him cash to rent an office he had no right to rent. Doorman’s name is Ed. Walk through the main building entrance, and he’ll verify everything I just said.”

“That can’t be.”

“What do you do that you need office space?”

“I’m a psychologist.”

I held out my hand. “I’m an attorney. Let me see your contract.”

Her face fell. “He hasn’t brought it by yet. He said the landlord was in Brazil on vacation, and I could move in, and he would come back on the first to collect the rent and bring me the contract to sign.”

“You’ve been scammed.”

“But I paid him ten thousand dollars!”

“Which is another thing that should have tipped you off. You couldn’t rent a closet on Park Avenue for twenty-five hundred a month. Didn’t you find it strange that you were getting a place like this for next to nothing?”

“I thought I was getting a deal.”

I shook my head. “You got a deal alright. A raw deal.”

She covered her mouth. “I think I’m going to be sick.”

Michel’s Review

How do I love Vi Keeland books?  It’s impossible to count the ways!  With every new release she brings something fresh, fun, sexy, and emotional to the table.  She creates larger than life characters that are ordinary people finding something extraordinary when they least expect it.  She adds witty dialogue and heart melting moments that hold the reader captive until the very last word has been read.  In other words, her books are a delightful reading experience that leaves the reader with the warm & fuzzies and great big smile.  Her latest release, Egomaniac, is one of my favorite books she has written.

Drew Jagger is a cynical and very successful divorce attorney in Manhattan. He’s easy on the eyes, popular with the ladies, and living the carefree bachelor life. His professional  success has left him a bit jaded where marital relationships are concerned.  His dealings with his clients and personal experience with marriage have proven time after time that marriage is merely a contract of self destruction.  It’s not that he has anything against sex or relationships, they are fine when delegated with the right perspective.  It’s when marriage and commitment enter the picture, the lines become blurred, and the dynamics change. He’s seen and heard it all.  He knows how fast it can all turn ugly.  He has experienced the ugly himself and will never again put himself in that position.  Love and commitment are only words that can be easily be erased by his expertise and ruthless negotiations.

Psychologist Emerie Rose is a couples counselor.  Her speciality is teaching couples to communicate with one another.  She believes that most relationships can be fixed with the right tools and willingness to accept their partners individualities, needs, and dreams.  It’s her job to teach her clients to communicate their needs, respect their partners needs, and find common ground to build a life together that is happy, successful, and fulfilling.  She believes in love and the happily ever after.

So what happens when a jaded divorce attorney and a starry eyed couples counselor share an office?  It could be a match made in heaven or it could be the most ferocious contenders in hell vying to prove they are right.  One thing is for sure, the chemistry between these two is sizzling hot.

Drew is going to learn the true meaning of love.  Emerie is going to actually experience what she strives to teach her clients.  They will both learn there is more to love than contracts and communication.  They are going to learn the meaning of giving it all and accepting what’s given.

The jaded divorce attorney and the naive couples counselor is a great premise for a good romance, but Vi Keeland gives that extra magical element when she adds her special blend to it.  A self absorbed Pyschology Professor playing games, a manipulative ex wife with an agenda that includes a lot of dollar signs, a supportive but jaded best friend that is also top notch PI, a firm case of New York mentality colliding with Southern mentality, two legal systems dictating lives of all the players involved, and an adorable six year old that holds them all captive with his innocence and untainted heart.  It’s pure Vi Keeland magic.

I highly recommend Egomaniac by Vi Keeland.  It is her best book to date.

Michel’s Review

J. Sterling has a new series featuring three sexy brothers.  No Bad Days is the first in the series and features the youngest brother, Nick Fisher.  Nick is a senior in college.  On the surface it appears that Nick has led the enchanted life.  He has a reputation of being a ladies man.  He’s the president of his fraternity.  It’s very clear he’s extremely intelligent and has a very bright future ahead.  Beneath the surface is a very troubled young man.  A young man that is being controlled by his father.  His dreams for the future are being crushed.  He can’t even tell his older brothers because the father they grew up with was a different kind of man.  He’s hanging onto his college days and freedom for dear life.  When he meets a girl that could make a difference in his future, his life begins to spiral out of control once again.

Jess Michaelson has secretly crushed on Nick Fisher.  When their paths finally cross she meets a different Nick Fisher than most people know.  Jess and Nick click on every level.  Their relationship is going full speed ahead until life rears it’s ugly head.  Jess is being forced to switch schools because of her major.  Nick can’t handle long distance relationships.  A vicious woman is waiting on the sidelines to swoop in and grab Nick by the balls.

What happens next?  Some very bad decisions that destroy everything Nick and Jess had.

For fans of new adult romances with a lot of angst and back & forth are going to eat this book up.  For me it was a bit predictable and immature.  I wanted Nick to have more substance and backbone.  I loved Jess and the strength she was able to muster in a bad situation.  Overall I think this book is for a younger reader base.

I am looking forward to Nick’s older brothers stories.  These guys have ten years on Nick and a lot more life experiences.  I think I will be able to relate to their stories a little more.

About J. Sterling

j. sterlingI got fired from my last job. It’s true. I know you’re sitting there thinking “Jenn, how could anyone in their right mind fire someone as amazing and awesome as you???” And i’d love to give you a good reason, but the truth is- being this awesome is clearly very scary to other less awesome people.

So I said screw them and started writing my first book. And you know what I realized? Writing books that mean something to me is a million times better than working for my ass off for someone who doesn’t really care about anything other than the bottom line.

My soul feels more satisfied.
My heart, more full.

So thank you for reading, loving and recommending the stories I write.
I appreciate it more than you know. 🙂

When Alexis Romera is taken and her kidnappers find her fake ID in her purse, she must become Sophia in order to keep her family safe. Revealing her real identity to the man she’s sold to would be easy enough, but can she trust him? Hell bent on revenging the murder of his uncle, Rebel doesn’t seem all that interested in playing things safe.

Wildwood Series – Book 2

By Skye Jordan

Synopsis

Newly divorced, Avery Hart returns home to Wildwood eager to take on her dream opportunity and transform her family’s dive bar into her own bakery. The contractor for hire isn’t just a master with his hands—he’s big, built, and wears a tool belt like nobody’s business. Despite being an ex-con, Trace Hutton is irresistible. Too bad he’d never go for someone as inexperienced as Avery.

Trace needs to focus on the job at hand, not daydream about smearing icing all over the sexy baker…and licking it off. This job is the key to getting his construction company back on its feet after his time in prison. Besides, no one deserves a fresh start more than Avery, and she certainly won’t get that with him.

After a delectable night of passion (and pie), Trace craves something more. But he’ll be damned if he’ll let his checkered past crush her dreams. And as Avery starts to realize how Trace fulfills more than just her physical needs, she struggles with whether to let her history decide her future, or explore the wild new possibilities of forever…

Michel’s Review

The Hart sisters are back and Wildwood has never been hotter.  With the release of the second book in Wildwood Series, Skye Jordan has turned up the heat.

Avery Hart returned to Wildwood after her sister Delaney convinced her to return home after her disastrous divorce.  Avery is struggling to become a stronger woman after many years of neglect.  Being an army wife had taught her how to become independent and self sufficient but didn’t teach her how to value herself.  She is weary of love and commitment after her husband’s betrayal.  Coming home to Wildwood is her second chance.  Her chance to become whole.  A chance to prove to herself that she has value.

Avery and Delaney have chosen to turn the family bar into a restaurant and catering business.  Avery has a gift in the kitchen.  Her pastries and baked goods are in high demand.  She’s building a solid reputation in the community while the renovations are being done to the bar.  She has become in high demand and is working her fingers to the bone.  She doesn’t have time for romance but the sexy contractor is a big temptation.  He’s proving that she is a desirable woman that deserves to have her needs met.  He is also very leary of labeling their affair as a relationship.  He has his own issues and family problems that have destroyed his life.  Now he is responsible for taking care of his father and trying to rise above his jaded past.

Trace Hutton is a convicted felon.  He spent his younger years in prison.  Being a man with a record is hard enough, let alone being a business owner.  He is struggling to keep his contracting business afloat.  He has to go one step beyond to prove to the community of Wildwood that he is a man that is dependable and productive.  The last thing he needs is Avery Hart tempting his heart.

Both Avery and Trace struggle to find their place in Wildwood.  Their biggest struggle is learning their own value and accepting themselves.  Once they can learn that, their relationship may not be doomed.  It may be their saving grace.

The Wildwood series is one of Skye Jordan’s more erotic series.  The passionate love scenes are sizzling hot.  What makes this series shine is the characters.  They are very strong and compelling people with very real issues.  Their lives are anything but perfect.  I thoroughly enjoyed Wild Kisses and can’t wait to see what comes next in the Wildwood series.  There is a missing Hart sister that needs to return home to Wildwood.

Synopsis

Forbidden Fling, Book 1 in the Wildwood Series by Skye Jordan

Delaney Hart has come a long way from her wild youth, dating tattooed bikers at her father’s bar, The Bad Seed. But when his death pulls her back to Wildwood, California, she must stay to renovate the dive he left her. And also face the lies and secrets that sent her running ten years before.

When Wildwood’s chief building inspector, Ethan Hayes, shows up on the property, Delaney doesn’t recognize him. The last thing he wants to do is save the bar where his cousin died in a brawl. But the good boy from her past is all too willing to remind her of the bad girl she used to be. And one night of passion leaves them both in a compromising position.

The last place Ethan should be is in Delaney’s bed. Guilt, family pressure, and plans for a brewpub of his own make shutting down The Bad Seed his top priority…until his feelings for Delaney interfere. Excerpt

I remained still, my arms wrapped around my knees, my jean shorts digging into the space where thigh met crotch as my red hair was whipped around my face by a passing breeze. I breathed in and out, counting backward from a hundred. Taking deep breaths and closing my eyes, I allowed positive energy to burn through me and eat away at the bad.

Giggles wafted from the benches below, near the fountain, and then drifted off as the other girls made their way out of the sports complex. Reality returned. It was present day, not back then when I was helpless.

Today I was in control.

Only after the others left—not that it mattered, I was invisible to them—did the coach nod in my direction and motion for me to come down.

That simple gesture felt like something more. Like I meant more to him than was appropriate for a coach and his student. His head tilted to the side for a beat too long, his gaze rested on me more thoughtfully than it had on the others, and he squinted at me in a way I liked very, very much.

“Think you can keep up with them?” He jerked his head back toward the gymnasium, a smirk twisting his mouth.

I zoned in on his lips and became a sailboat slicing through the sea, jumping into the blue ocean that was his eyes as I made my way down the stairs.

That’s your coach, Juliette. Let it be.

“I play singles, so I’m pretty sure I’ll hold my own with or without them,” I said from the bottom step, allowing my natural confidence to make an appearance. Hello, ego, my good friend.

“Yeah, I know. I meant, think you can hold your own with that crowd? In general?”

“I’ll be fine. I’m looking forward to it,” I lied. I wasn’t looking forward to dealing with them. Not today. Not tomorrow.

Though, now that I was in the presence of Coach King—up close and personal, outside, shouting, coaching, wearing shorts—I was more excited than before. His forearms fascinated me all over again. They rippled with strength when he moved, making me wonder what they would look like braced over me.

I pulled my hair back into a messy knot at my nape, allowing the breeze to hit my heated neck. “Thanks for asking me to come and watch.”

Michel’s Review

Looking for a forbidden romance that is loaded with angst?  Break Point by Rachel Blaufeld is what you are looking for.

Juliette Smith is a tennis superstar.  She had problems at her former college and is now being recruited for another school.  When her new coach, Drew King, shows up at her home, she knows she’s going to have problems at her new school.  She’s attracted to her new coach and suspects the attraction is mutual.

Drew knows he has to keep his attraction for Juliette hidden.  It could ruin them both.  The temptation is too much for either to handle.  When they finally give into the attraction it changes the course of their lives.

Their short lived affair has changed them both.  Drew left the school so that Juliette would have the opportunities she should have.  Juliette ended up leaving school anyways.

For six years both have lived their lives in the shadows of what could of been between them.  Their passion for one another isn’t the only secret being kept.  Will the ultimate truth tear them apart further or will it finally lead them to where they need to be?

I loved Drew King’s character.  He was truly an honorable man and handled a bad situation with great care.  I struggled with Juliette’s character.  I felt that she was a bit self centered.  She was more concerned about her repercussions than she was about Drew.  Her immaturity and selfish actions caused Drew to miss the first six years of being a father.  In this day and age, there was no need to keep this secret from him.  He was a good guy and always had her best interest at heart.

I personally struggle with these type of books… but that’s just me.  Break Point was well written and had some very emotional moments.  Fans of this type of book are going to embrace it whole heartedly.
