BLURB

I’d never forgotten him—a man I’d yet to meet.

Griffin Quinn was my childhood pen pal, the British boy who couldn’t have been more different from me. Over the years, through hundreds of letters, we became best friends, sharing our deepest, darkest secrets and forming a connection I never thought could break.

Until one day it did.

Then, out of the blue, a new letter arrived. A scathing one—one with eight years of pent-up anger. I had no choice but to finally come clean as to why I stopped writing.

Griffin forgave me, and somehow we were able to rekindle our childhood connection. Only now we were adults, and that connection had grown to a spark. Our letters quickly went from fun to flirty to downright dirty, revealing our wildest fantasies. So it only made sense that we would take our relationship to the next level and see each other in person.

Only Griff didn’t want to meet. He asked that I trust him and said it was for the best. But I wanted more—more Griff, in the flesh—so I took a big chance and went looking for him. People have done crazier things for love.

But what I found could change everything.

EXCERPT REVEAL:

The small dining room table had a pile of mail. I’d had Dad’s mail forwarded to my house, so mostly it was just catalogs and junk. Once a month, Mrs. Cascio sent me everything that arrived, even though I’d told her it wasn’t necessary. I mindlessly fingered through the pile, not expecting to see anything worth keeping. But I stopped at an envelope addressed to me—well, not me, but Luca Ryan. That was a name I hadn’t heard in a long time. In second grade, my teacher, Mrs. Ryan, started a pen pal writing program with a small town in England. We weren’t allowed to use our real last names for safety reasons, so the entire class used her last name—hence I was Luca Ryan. I checked out the return address for the sender’s name.

G. Quinn

Wow, really? It couldn’t be.

I squinted at the postmark. It was from a PO box in California, not England, but I didn’t know any other Quinn other than Griffin. And the handwriting did look pretty familiar. But it had been close to eight years since we’d exchanged letters. Why would he write now? Curious, I ripped it open and scanned right to the bottom of the letter for the name. Sure enough, it was from Griffin. I started at the beginning.

Dear Luca,

Do you like scotch? I remember you said you didn’t like the taste of beer. But we never did get around to comparing our taste in hard liquor. Why is that, you might ask? Let me remind you—because you stopped answering my letters eight damn years ago. I wanted to let you know, I’m still pissed off about that. My mum used to say I hold grudges. But I prefer to think of it as I remember the facts. And the fact of the matter is, you suck. There, I’ve said it. I’ve been holding that shit in for a long time. Don’t get me wrong—I’m not obsessive or anything. I don’t sit in my house thinking about you all day long. In fact, there have been months that go by when thoughts of you don’t even enter my brain. But then some random thing will pop into my head out of the blue. Like I’ll see some kid in a pram eating black licorice, and I’ll think of you. Side note—I’ve tried it again as an adult, and I still think it tastes like the bottom of my shoe, so perhaps it’s that you just have no taste. You probably don’t even like scotch. Anyway, I’m sure this letter won’t find its way to you. Or if by some miracle it does, you won’t answer. But if you’re reading this, you should know two things.

1. The Macallan 1926 is worth the extra cash. Goes down smooth.

2. You SUCK.

Later, traitor, Griffin

What in the hell?

Michel’s Review

The dynamic duo, Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward have released Dirty Letters, their final novel for 2019. Dirty Letters was a phenomenal book that featured two very unique people finding love through words.

Dirty Letters features the story of two individuals who find love through years of letters. Luca suffers from debilitating anxiety and PTSD which deeply affects how she maneuvers through life. Griffin has experienced his own trials, tribulations, and heartbreaks. Through letters they both find much more than a way to escape their own worlds but also a way to express themselves completely.

A pen pal writing assignment was a life line for two children and became so much more. At the age of seven Luca and Griffin became childhood pen pals who shared so many things they could never express outside their letters.  They became best friends until life got in the way and ended their letters ended abruptly.

Eight years later at the age of twenty five, Luca finds herself forced to deal with her father’s death from a year earlier. Her therapist, Dr. Maxwell, helped her decide to face the reality and get the task done herself rather than hiring someone else to do it. When she finds a recent letter from Griffin it changes her direction once again. He’s angry that she stopped writing without explanation. He goes as far as saying she SUCKS!

After rereading some of the letters from the past and reading some of the unopened letters, she finally gets the courage to write him back. She owed him an explanation and huge apology. Thus begins the exchange.

They don’t know each others real identities, names, or occupations. This gives them the opportunity to enjoy the freedom to express whatever they desire. It allows them to become more susceptible to experiencing real emotions without boundaries or expectations. It allows their thoughts to become creative and their dirty desires to surface.

Let the fun begin, hang onto your seat, and get ready for one of the best books the dynamic duo, Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward has written. What I loved most is while this book dealt with serious afflictions, it was also fun, light-hearted, and very witty. It was their best book of 2019!

I highly recommend reading Dirty Letters by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward!

Michel’s Review
Nome – O Seeks Juliet by Katy Regnery reminds me of the very reason I fell in love with Katy Regnery’s writing.  Katy has the ability to deliver a character driven, emotionally touching romance that keeps the readers absorbed until the very end.
*
Juliet Sanderson is finishing up her final year in Veternary College when she loses her study candidate for her thesis project on the care and training of sled dogs in the competitive sled racing sport. Rather than throw the towel in, her roommate finds her a new candidate in the classifieds of a popular Alaskan magazine,  The Odds Are Good. While she’s desperate for a new study subject, she’s not willing to follow up in the classifieds until she catches her boyfriend, who is also her advisor, mentor, and professor having sex with another student. His callous attitude about their no strings attached relationship and professional advisories propels her to answer the add for a musher partner in Nome, Alaska.
*
Cody Garrison needs a female race partner for the Qimmiq 200 race in order to qualify for the famous Iditarod Dog Sled race. He’s desperate enough to advertise in a magazine and is willing to train her in a short amount of time.  He’s shocked when a young twenty four year old woman answers his ad and is willing to put in the work and never once mentions romance, relationships, or sex. Her name is Juliet. How can he ignore the signs?
*
Juliet is the first woman / person to see Cody beyond his scarring and injuries he has had since his service in Afghanistan. He’s learned to live with his disabilities and secluded himself from most people. His passion for his dogs and racing are all the fulfillment he needs until he meets his new racing partner. Life is taking on a different quest.
*
Juliet and Cody find that once in a lifetime love but their lives are on two separate paths. Being together forever may not be in their stars unless they are willing to give up their dreams they have worked so hard for. Just when they think they have it figured out, the world once again interrupts their journey.
*
I was immediately drawn into Nome-O Seeks Juliet and fell hopelessly in love with Cody. I admired Juliet’s strength, tenacity, and ability to love unconditionally. I loved learning about dog sled racing and intimately meeting their dog sled teams. Katy tapped into her magical word pool and found a way to deliver the kind of  emotional story she’s known for.
*

Landon & Shay AMAZON

Shay Gable hated my guts, and I hated hers, too.

We went out of our way to avoid one another at all times. When she came my direction, I went the other. When we locked eyes, she’d turn and walk away.

All of that changed the day I was presented with a challenge. It started out as a stupid bet: make Shay fall in love with me before I fell in love with her first.

That was an easy bet for me to win.

I didn’t love, I hardly liked.

Yet slowly the game started to shift. Shay made me crave things I never knew I wanted like love, happiness, and her.

The closer we grew, the more she challenged my darkness, and the parts I kept locked away.

The hurts.

The pains.

The truth.

The game between us became too real, our feelings intermixed, and the risks of hurting one another grew higher.

But you know what they say…

All’s fair in the game of love and war—especially the heartbreaks.

Landon

Spin Seven was a mixture of spin the bottle and seven minutes in heaven. When it was my turn, I reached out to the bottle with no concern about whether or not it would land exactly where I wanted it to go. At fourteen years old, I’d learned how to perfect my spin-seven skills in order to kiss the girl I wanted.

Though, this time, I knew there wasn’t going to be a lot of kissing going on. More like yelling.

The bottle spun and spun, around and around. Shay’s eyes stayed glued to the glass beer bottle. The moment it started to slow down, I watched her lips part as she quietly muttered, “No, no, no,” before it stopped directly in front of her.

The circle began oohing and aahing at the idea that the two sworn enemies were on their way to the closet together for seven minutes straight. They were all here for that show, and I knew the moment we stepped into that closet, the door would be surrounded with people whispering and pressing their ear against it from the outside, trying to catch a snippet of what was going on behind closed doors.

I stood from the circle and gestured toward Shay. “Please,” I offered. “Chickens first.”

She grimaced, her thick, full eyebrows lowering a hair before she pushed herself up from the floor and headed toward the closet in haste. We both stepped inside and stood nose to nose.

“Okay, friends, you know the rules,” Eric said, grabbing the handle of the door. “Seven minutes in heaven—or, in your case, hell. Have fun!” He slammed the door shut, and the moment it happened, Shay whined with irritation.

“I can’t believe I’m locked in here with you for seven minutes. I could think of a million things I’d rather be doing,” she grumbled, probably with a pout.

“Like what?”

“Oh, I don’t know…watching paint dry.”

“Well, since we’re here, we should probably spend our time wisely,” I joked, moving to unbuckle my jeans, knowing it would bother her. I wished I could see the annoyance on her face. I loved when I got under her skin enough to make her nostrils flare.

“Oh my gosh, remove that idea from your mind, Landon, and stop messing with your belt, because there’s no way in hell I’m touching you.”

“I’ve thought about it before,” I said, my voice low and tame.

“Thought about what?”

“Kissing you.”

She huffed sarcastically. “I’m sure that’s not true.”

“You’re right, it’s not.”

“I know.”

It was true, though. It’d happened once—and only once—after Lance’s funeral. I had spent a lot of weeks being out of it, using alcohol to cope with the shitstorm raging inside my head, and I was a bit unstable. If my friends hadn’t been looking out for me, I would’ve probably gone overboard. I remembered walking into school one day and seeing Shay standing there at her locker with a few of her friends. She was laughing and tossing her head back in such a genuine way, and I couldn’t take my eyes off her.

I kept thinking about how she’d held me weeks prior and stayed with me during the lowest point of my life. She had been there—my enemy—taking care of my scars. And as I’d stared at her in the hallway, I’d thought about thanking her—walking over to her, parting my lips, and giving her my gratitude. I wasn’t used to people doing shit for me with no hope of anything in return, and Shay had done it without any expectations.

I remembered looking at her eyes, and then moving down to her slender nose, and then her cheeks, then those juicy lips.

I wondered how those lips would taste if I used mine against them to thank her. I wondered if she tasted like the candy she was always popping into her mouth. I wondered if she dripped of the angelic sin I always claimed her to be. I wondered for a split second…considered it for a blink in time…and then she slammed her locker, walked away, and I sobered up.

Still, I had considered it.

We both went quiet for a few moments before I cleared my throat again. I didn’t like silence. Silence and I didn’t get along too well. “Just one kiss, Chick. I can keep it a secret.”

“You keep secrets the same way you keep girls. AKA, you don’t—other than Monica.”

“Monica’s not mine.”

“That doesn’t change the fact that she thinks you’re hers.”

I smirked a little. “You jealous of her?”

“Jealous of her having to deal with a guy like you? Never in my life.”

“Whatever you say, Chick.”

“I wish you’d stop calling me Chick,” she snapped. “I hate it.”

“You want a new nickname, sweet cheeks? I can give you a new nickname, sweet cheeks.”

She shivered in disgust. Good. There was nothing I enjoyed more than getting on her nerves. “Not that either.”

“I’ll keep working on it.”

“Or you could just call me by my name.”

“Nah, Shay’s too ugly a name to leave my lips.”

“I hate you.”

“I hate you more.”

“Yeah, but I hate you the most.”

I snickered. “You really think you can get a guy like me to fall in love with you?”

“Yes. I’m positive, actually. People are the easiest to read, and that includes you.”

“You can’t read me, Shay.”

“I can, like an open book.”

“Okay.” I reached into my pocket, pulled out my cell phone, and turned on the flashlight, lighting up the small space. “Read me.”

She raised an eyebrow. “You sure you want me to do this? Reading people is kind of my gift, and you might not like what I have to say.”

“I never like what you have to say, so this time shouldn’t be any different. Go for it.”

She rolled her shoulders back and stretched out her arms as if she was about to deadlift me. “Okay. You’re fake, Landon.”

That was it? That was the big reveal? “What the hell do you mean I’m fake?”

“I mean exactly that. You. Are. Fake. F-A-K-E. Fake. There is nothing real about you. You’re a walking lie.”

I laughed. No joke, I actually laughed out loud, which didn’t happen often for me. It was a deep-rooted, belly laugh.

“What the hell are you talking about?” I questioned. “Everything about me is real. I’m the realist damn person you’ll come across in our town.”

“No,” she disagreed with a shake of her head. “You are the fakest. You’re even faker than the new boobs Carly Patrick got for her eighteenth birthday.”

What?!” I breathed out, stunned by her words. “I’m not fake, Shay.”

“It’s not a big deal, Landon.” She shrugged her shoulders and went to picking at her nails. “People seem to love your fakeness.”

“I’m not fake,” I argued again, my blood boiling at this point. “Plus, I’ve seen Carly’s boobs up close and personal. Those are straight in-your-face, nips-don’t-flick fake. There is no way in this world I’m more fake than those silicone watermelons. I’m a lot of shitty things, but fake isn’t one of them.”

“Okay then, can you answer a question for me?”

“Anything.”

“How many people know you’re sad?”

“The hell kind of question is that?” I barked.

“A very straightforward one,” she replied. She seemed so cool, calm, and collected—one of the many things I despised about her. It was as if her life was always so solid. I wished for that kind of stable structure, and seeing that she had it annoyed the living hell out of me.

“How long have you been sad, Landon?”

I glanced at my watch. “About a solid three minutes now, because being trapped inside this closet with you is complete hell.”

“Aren’t you the one who wanted to come in here with me?”

“Bad call. A lapse in judgment. I forgot how annoying you are.”

She smiled. She freaking smiled at me, pleased by my annoyance. “Are you going to answer me about your sadness?”

“Are you going to suck my dick?” I replied.

“Do you always do that?” she asked, tilting her head to the left as she studied my expressions. She was doing that thing she did—reading me. Taking note of my movements and the tightness of my jaw, taking in every inch of me.

Don’t let her read your pages, Landon. She couldn’t have even handled my prologue.

All my walls were up, and I wasn’t going to let her knock them down.

“Do what?” I questioned.

“Use sarcasm to shield your hurting.”

“There’s nothing hurting here. Look at this life. I have money, badass parties, and girls throwing themselves at me—why would I have anything to hurt about?”

“Maybe because money, girls, and parties don’t make a person happy. I see how miserable you are in your eyes.”

I grimaced and whisper-hissed, “You don’t know shit about me, Shay.”

“Then how am I able to get under your skin so easily? If that wasn’t true, if you weren’t sad, why would my saying that bother you so much?”

“You don’t,” I calmly replied.

She did.

She was pushing me, making me uncomfortable with the fact that she did seem able to see the parts of me no one else could. Anger was building in my chest, and I needed to defuse it before it became too big.

“Maybe it’s best if we shut up for the rest of the time,” I told her.

“For the second time in my life, I agree with you.”

Shay sat down on the floor of the closet, and I did the same, leaning back against some coats that were hanging. How did seven minutes feel like seventy? Was time moving at all? This was hell.

Then came the silence. The silence that brought out heavy thoughts. Shay could read my mind somehow, and so, when the silence became too much, I cleared my throat and tried to make small talk in hopes of shutting my own brain up. “A chicken and Satan walk into a closet—stop me if you’ve heard this one.”

She laughed a little.

It was quiet and low, and dammit, I’d never heard Shay laugh at anything I’d ever said before, so that was new. What was also new was the small part of me that enjoyed hearing her sound.

“Landon?” she whispered.

“Yeah?”

“Just shut up, all right?”

Yeah, okay.

“One more minute, you horny hatebirds!” Eric called out.

We both stood, and I took a step closer toward her. “I get you not wanting to kiss. That’s intimate and personal, but if you want, this is your last chance to touch my cock while no one’s looking. I won’t stop you.”

“No thanks. I’m allergic to peanuts,” she said so effortlessly and loudly, causing the crowd on the other side of the door to burst into laughter.

Shay smirked again, feeling proud of her little dig at me. That beautiful, annoying smirk I loved to hate.

Shay: 1

Landon: 0

I wasn’t worried, though. The game was just getting started. She might’ve scored one point, but I wasn’t going to let it happen again. We were playing on my field, and Shay didn’t know what she was up against.

Michel’s Review

***2019 Favorite***

I get so excited every time Brittainy C. Cherry releases a new book. I know I am in for a reading experience that will play on all of my emotions while being thoroughly entertained. Brittainy takes her readers along on the life journey of all her characters. Her characters become our friends, our family, and a part of our hearts. As readers we identify with all aspects of their lives including the struggles, failures, and victories. We celebrate their growth as individuals. Most of all we celebrate their ability to love unconditionally and accept it without reservation.

Readers met Landon and Shay in Brittainy’s previous novel, Eleanor & Grey. They were the devoted friends and family that always offered their support, strength, wisdom, and unconditional friendship. They were both very strong people who could weather any storm. Never in a million years could I have predicted what was going to be unleashed in their story!

Landon was the life of the party, the one to always bring a sense of joy, and light heartedness. Beneath the surface he’s anything but lighthearted. He suffers from severe depression which goes beyond circumstantial causes. It’s an inherited genetic disorder that needs more than wild parties, wild sexcapades, and recreational drugs can provide. Although his best friend Grey sees some of his pain, he doesn’t know how deep it runs and is deflected by Landon’s ability to hide his pain. There is one person who sees the darkness that lurks beneath the surface. He hates that she can see his demons, he hates that she can see him. He doesn’t want her to see that part of him but at the same time that part of him needs her to help him through the darkness. Shay is the only person who sees his pain. She sees Satan lurking beneath his sexy good looks and irresistible charm. His darkness is desperately reaching out for her even though he despises that need.

Shay has a gift of seeing people for who they are beneath the surface. She has trained herself to look beyond what the world sees. The amazing thing about her gift is her ability to be empathetic, compassionate, patient, kind, and loving. She leaves judgement out of the equation. Landon is the one person she hates because of how careless he is with other people’s feelings, how he uses girls like a revolving door, and how dismissive he is to those who try to help him. She purposely steers clear of him until the day she sees his undeniable pain at his darkest moment. She can’t turn her back on him when he is hurting so badly. She can’t allow him to push her away. Landon isn’t easy and he can push harder because it is easier than  reaching out.  She’s going to keep pulling him in until he can no longer push back.

Landon & Shay: Part One is only the beginning of this difficult life journey. Somehow I know they are both going to be okay because I saw glimpses of it in Eleanor & Grey. What Brittainy has in store for these two characters is going to take them to hell and back. Without a doubt they are both going to survive the in between and come out stronger people. Together they are going to learn to embrace every side of the human spirit and validate every emotion and feeling they have. They are going to learn to deal with their darkness and reach for the light. They are going to learn the real definition of love and hope. They are going to learn to use these emotions as their coping mechanisms.

In a sense I can’t wait to see what comes next for Landon & Shay but I am preparing myself to experience all aspects of human emotions. Brittainy C. Cherry can take her readers on a beautiful journey no matter what is in store because she has a gift of showing the beauty of the human spirit. That is what makes a great love story!

About GIRL IN LUV:

Langley Vaughn is in desperate need of a date.

But not just any date.

She’s looking for a date to the wedding from hell. It isn’t every day you’re forced to be in the bridal party while your first love marries your archnemesis…otherwise known as the world’s worst stepsister. The entire situation is a nightmare, and Langley is sick and tired of taking orders and forcing a fake smile. She’s done being the bad guy when she was the one who was wronged.

She needs to find a date who’s not afraid of her family’s money…someone willing to shake things up. She needs someone outside of her normal social circle, someone ready to go to war with the well-to-do. She needs someone who won’t back down. Someone willing to play the complicated game of tug-of-war she’s been engaged in with her family for years.

Never in a million years did she think she was going to stumble across her very own heroic heartthrob when she set her crazy plan in motion.

Not only does Iker show up for her time and time again, he also forces her to finally fight for herself.

He says he’s only there for the money…but his actions speak so much louder than his words.

Iker Alvarez would do anything and everything to get his hands on some quick cash.

Not just any cash, but enough to make sure his younger brother gets into the college of his dreams.

Thank goodness for a desperate, pretty little rich girl with too much money and her heart set on an outrageous scheme. Being in the right place at the right time might just be the answer to both of their prayers—and this smart soldier has never let a golden opportunity slide by.

Iker doesn’t mind coming to Langley’s rescue and being her plus-one…as long as the price is right.

Only, he didn’t plan on liking the blonde socialite as much as he does. He is totally unprepared for the pull he feels toward her, coupled with his growing desire to protect her from the vultures and villains living under the same roof.

He wants to be the guy who keeps her safe and gives her the courage she obviously needs to fight back… But someone else, someone far more powerful and influential than Langley’s wealthy family, has dibs on Iker’s time and on his future. He knows he isn’t the guy Langley can count on in the long run, but damn, if he doesn’t want to do everything in his power to be that man.

About BOY IN LUV:

Distance sure as hell made his heart grow fonder… But it shattered hers into a million pieces.

Langley Vaughn knows she’s never going to make the same mistake again.

Who falls head over heels in love in a week? Langley did, and she’s regretted it every day since she handed her heart to a boy with too many secrets and too much baggage. Iker doesn’t fit into Langley’s world, and he made it clear he doesn’t want to. He left before she even got a chance to try and change his mind or to prove to him how good they could be together. Langley’s spent the last nine months healing her heart and making big plans for the future. Plans that absolutely don’t include Iker… even though he’s back, looking better than ever, and saying all the right things.

Iker Alvarez knows he made the biggest mistake of his life.

At first, the pretty blonde in the red dress was nothing more than a means to an end. But, she quickly became so much more. As soon as Iker walked away from Langley, claiming it was for her own good, he knew he screwed up. He left her so she wouldn’t worry about him when he deployed, so she wouldn’t waste her time waiting around for a guy who was never going to be good enough for her. Only, nine months and a deployment later, Iker still can’t get Langley out of his head… and he totally underestimated the hold she has on his hardened heart. He’s a guy who’s not sure how love should work, or how to go about winning his girl back…he’s about to get a crash course in both.

Michel’s Review

The romance book world has embraced another new dynamic writing team. Jay Crownover and Rebecca Yarros are the new dynamic duo taking readers by storm with their debut Luv Duet. I devoured this duet in one day and was left wanting more..more…more from these two authors.

Two people from two different worlds find the one thing they will always have in common. They found love in the most unexpected way and had to struggle to figure out how to do the “relationship”.  Loving someone is the easy part, building a real relationship and finding a way to make it work is where the complications begin.

Langley basically hired Iker to be her plus one at her step sister’s wedding. Iker desperately needed money. The two find their involvement is a means to an end in both their lives. Their attraction to one another is undeniable. The chemistry they share is sizzling hot. Their shared moments are tender, caring, and passionate. The problem is they are from very different worlds with very different life expectations.

Fans of both these writers know they deliver a page turning romance that keeps their readers glued to the pages praying for these two lovers to find their way back to one another. Jay Crownover and Rebecca Yarros deliver!

I highly recommend reading Girl In Luv and Boy In Luv , The Luv Duet, by Jay Crownover and Rebecca Yarros.

New Release + Excerpt + 5 Star Review: Before You by Marni Mann

Before You - BT banner

From USA Today best-selling author Marni Mann comes Before You, a contemporary romance and a devastating examination of the people we meet, the life we create, and the things we lose. Before You is LIVE!

Before You AMAZON.jpg

It was supposed to be a typical work trip. New York to San Francisco, window seat, exit row. Maybe a mimosa.

Then, seat 14B sat down. When our eyes met, the flight became anything but routine.

I could pinpoint the moments in my life where everything changed forever.

Meeting Jared on that flight was first.

Falling in love with him was second.

Discovering the secrets he kept was third.

Putting my broken self back together and forgetting what I learned would be difficult. Forgiving Jared would be impossible.

He said, before me, nothing mattered. But after him, nothing would ever be the same.

Excerpt

“Are you willing and able to help in the event of an emergency situation?” the flight attendant asked as she stood beside our row. She had appeared directly after the announcement that informed us that all of the passengers were now on board the plane to San Francisco and the pilots were doing their final preparations before Flight 88 pulled away from the gate.

“Yes,” I answered, and I should have gone back to the article on the housing market in lower Manhattan that I’d started when I was waiting to board. Instead, my eyes were on her.

The girl in seat 14A.

She had dark hair that went well past her shoulders, a patch of freckles under each of her eyes, and lips that were pouty and full. She wasn’t beautiful. She was exquisite.

And she had no idea at all.

In the forty-seven years I’d been alive, I’d learned something about women. There were those you couldn’t help but look at and those you just shouldn’t look at.

She was both.

That was rare.

“Yes,” she replied to the flight attendant, and then she looked at me.

Before all of the interruptions, she had asked why I was going to California. I finally answered, “Some work, some pleasure. And yourself?”

“Same.” Her eyelids narrowed. “Are you from Manhattan? I don’t detect an accent.”

I felt the paper in my hands and knew there was no way I could go back to it. Not yet at least, not with her fiery green gaze on me.

“When you’ve lived in New York for as long as I have, you tell people you’re from there. It’s easier.”

She laughed, and it caused me to keep staring at her. “I’ve been here a while, too, and I agree. Once New York becomes home, you seem to forget everywhere else you’ve lived.” She tucked some hair behind her ear. “Why is that?”

When I’d asked my assistant to book this flight, I hadn’t considered flying commercial would put me in a position for conversation, like the one she’d just started. I hadn’t thought much about the actual flight at all besides knowing I had to be on it.

But now that I was here, I had no idea what the fuck I was thinking.

I really shouldn’t be going to San Francisco at all.

I looked away from her to glance up ahead. The main door was closed, telling me it was too late to get off the plane. The only thing I could do at this point was get some air.

I excused myself, halfway to my feet, knowing we were minutes from leaving the gate and supposed to be in our seats, and I went down the aisle. “I’ll be quick,” I said to one of the flight attendants as she approached me, and I continued to the lavatory.

When I got inside, I locked the door behind me, guessing I had about thirty seconds before I heard a knock.

If I were in any other restroom, I would have washed my face, but I wasn’t going to do that with the water from a plane. What I needed from this tight, crammed space was to catch my breath.

Because all of it had been sucked out of me, and there wasn’t any air to be found in row fourteen.

Michel’s Review

I just started reading Marni Mann’s books in 2019 when a friend recommended I read When Ashes Fall back in January. I was very impressed with her writing and gift of creating an intriguing story. All of her books have very different kinds of subject matter and romantic themes. All of her characters are complex, the book plots are complicated with twists and turns that keep the readers captivated while turning the pages. By the last few chapters of the book she is wrapping it up with a shocking revelation which validates the happily ever after in a more sincere way. Marni Mann has become one of my favorite authors. I could not wait to read Before You.

Before You is a different kind of forbidden taboo romance. There is so much more than the older man/ younger woman romance, this is a story of FATE bringing two people together and not allowing them to escape their connection.

Billie Paige began her normal work routine when she boarded Flight 88. Little did she know that the handsome stranger sitting next to her would become her lifeline. She also didn’t know he would become her confidant, her strength, and the love of her life. Age didn’t make a difference, Flight 88 was behind them, and their future should have been soaring.  The only problem is Jared has been keeping secrets. Flight 88 was only the beginning of the nightmares which she and Jared Morgan share. Jared is hiding something more than she can handle.

FATE has a different agenda and will never allow their connections to be broken. They can’t change with Fate or their real destiny.

Marni Mann held me captive while reading this book. The element of horror, suspense, fear, heartbreak is all wrapped up in an unforgettable romance that eventually finds a happily ever after. The journey to the ending was a reading event!

I highly recommend reading Before You by Marni Mann!

Blurb:

Only in my family could a professional hockey player earning seven million dollars a year be considered a slacker.

I’m at the height of my athletic career. Yet my arrogant brother is always trying to recruit me into the family business: a global security company so secretive that I don’t even know its name.

Pass, thanks. I don’t need a summer job.

But the jerk ambushes me with a damsel in distress. That damsel is Alex, the competitive, sassy girl I knew when we were kids. Now she’s a drop-dead gorgeous woman in deep trouble.

So guess who’s on a flight to Hawaii?

It’s going to be a long week in paradise. My job is keeping Alex safe, while her job is torturing me with her tiny bikinis. Or maybe we’re torturing each other. It’s all snark and flirting until the threat against Alex gets serious. And this jock must become her major league protector.

Michel’s Review

Moonlighter by Sarina Bowen is book one in her new series called The Company. Moonlighter features two characters readers have met in the Brooklyn Bruisers series.

Eric Bayer has just started his summer vacation break from the Brooklyn Bruisers when his brother and father who own a top secret security company known as “The Company” recruit him for a job. They want him to accompany Alexandria Engel, an old childhood friend, to Hawaii posing as her new boyfriend / bodyguard.  She is having issues with a stalker whom they believe is her ex- abusive boyfriend. To top it off she’s three months pregnant from the ex- boyfriend and he hasn’t been made aware of his impending fatherhood. They want Eric with her for extra protection while the company finds out who is behind the threats. Her company is about to launch Bingley,  the new, innovative personal cyber assistant.

One week in tropical paradise can change the dynamics in any relationship. Eric and Alex are renewing their friendship and turning it into something more. Once they are back in New York and back to their regular lives and work, they find they are still drawn to one another. Even though the danger has escalated, the pregnancy has become obvious, the ex is still out there unaware, it seems like both of their lives are spiraling out of control.

Eric is aging out of his hockey career and an old knee injury is flaring up and affecting his performance. He has to face the realities of his athletic career. He’s at a turning point in his life.  He has to make the hardest choice and athlete ever has to make. When to retire.

Alex and Eric are both ready for something more, they are both ready for real love. They are ready to invest in a committed relationship. They are ready  to take the next steps in life and become a family.

I absolutely loved Moonlighter by Sarina Bowen. Moonlighter was a romantic suspense which kept the readers guessing until the end. It dealt with current issues such as cyber crimes and hacking as well as the human elements such as domestic abuse and stalking. In the midst of it all a favorite hockey player and a smart female executive find their happily ever after. The bonus was not only did readers get to meet new interesting characters for upcoming Company books but also got revisit their favorite characters from the Brooklyn Bruisers.

I highly recommend Moonlighter by Sarina Bowen!

Michel’s Review

I usually shy away from “Royalty” romance novels but was intrigued by this blurb. I was looking for something different with a bit of political intrigue.

In today’s modern world one would think that arranged marriages are a thing of the past. Most of countries that still have monarchies are usually for ceremonial and diplomatic purposes rather than presiding over the government. Most of us are enamored with the idea of royalty and fascinated by the princes and princesses.

Downfall is anything but the typical royal romance. It’s actually kind of ugly because the royal heirs are being used as political pawns in a very treacherous world.

The marriage has been arranged since childhood between Prince Luka Catano of Niaps and Princess Eden Safrin of Farrow . The two have not met until they both were to attend Kings Passage University. They have one year to pursue their studies and get to know one another before their marriage.  When the two meet not only can they not stand one another but also have different agenda’s in the grand scheme of life.  Luka wants to sow his royal oats until the wedding, Eden wanted a fairytale romance. Unfortunately their one year reprieve is cut short due to their countries dangerous  political crisis. These world situations change the arrangement and they are forced into a hasty marriage.

Life is miserable for both of them. The royal palace of Niaps is full of deception, cruelty, and filled with hatred.  Eden doesn’t know how to survive this kind of environment. She’s determined to find her way.

Luka is hiding many secrets. His open affairs and blatant disregard for Eden is horrendous. Beneath the surface there is another Luka altogether. Will Eden ever get to see that Luka?

Just when things are becoming bearable life throws another wrench in their twisted marriage.

Downfall is only the beginning of the Kingdoms of Sin series by Willow Aster. This is not a fairytale, it’s a story of survival. I can’t wait to see what comes next.

Release Blitz and Review: I Knead You Tonight by Teagan Hunter – Slice Series – Book 2

I hate Drew Woods, and she hates me.

Even so, I’m not the cold jerk most make me out to be, and I have no problem moving the single mom and her baby into my home. I do, however, draw a line when it comes to acting on the way her loose lips make me feel.

Alive.

She’s too mouthy, too prying, and her curves are way too distracting.

I might have lost my way after a nearly fatal car accident, but I’m not stupid. Giving in to Drew would be a short-lived fix for this pain I’m saddled with, and I knead something permanent.

I’d be insane to think what we have could be anything other than temporary…right?

Michel’s Review
I love everything about the Slice Series by Teagan Hunter. The second book of the series, I Knead You Tonight is even more entertaining than the first book.  I laughed out loud, felt every emotion, and connected with all of the characters. These people could be my friends, neighbors, and co-workers.  I understood their daily lives and daily struggles.
*
Everyone who knows Winston is well aware of his slacker tendencies. They are quickly learning that he is not the most reliable person when it comes to work or commitments. They also know he has a heart of gold beneath his grumpy surface. But when he rescues Drew Woods from her destitute situation and gives her a place to live with her son, he’s showing his true colors. He really is a nice guy. He’s starting to act like the guy he used to be before his near fatal car accident.
*
Drew Woods has had to fight for everything her entire life. She’s fiercely independent and determined to make it on her own. She’s also wise enough to accept help for the sake of her son’s well being.  Moving in with Winston is temporary. Why does he have to be so sexy and unpredictable?
*
Both Winston and Drew need to fix their lives. Together they make a great team. Together they can strive to become better. Together they can re-invent their lives one slice at a time.

I absolutely loved this book! It’s a fun, light hearted frenemies to lovers romance!

I highly recommend reading I Knead You Tonight by Teagan Hunter!

I’m a Missouri-raised gal, but currently live in North Carolina with my US Marine husband and 9-year-old dog. I spend my days begging him for a cat, and I survive off coffee, pizza, and sarcasm. When I’m not writing, you can find me binge-watching various TV shows, especially Supernatural and One Tree Hill. I like cold weather, buy more paperbacks than I’ll ever read, and I never say no to brownies.

Writing is my passion, and this is just the beginning of my journey.

Blurb:

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Pucked series comes a romantic comedy about instant attraction, second chances, and not-so-little white lies.

Sometimes I need an escape from the demands, the puck bunnies, and the notoriety that come with being an NHL team captain. I just want to be a normal guy for a few weeks. So when I leave Chicago for some peace and quiet, the last thing I expect is for a gorgeous woman to literally fall into my lap on a flight to Alaska. Even better, she has absolutely no idea who I am.

Lainey is the perfect escape from my life. My plan for seclusion becomes a monthlong sex fest punctuated with domestic bliss. But it ends just as abruptly as it began. When I’m called away on a family emergency, I realize too late that I have no way to contact Lainey.

A year later, a chance encounter throws Lainey and me together again. But I still have a lie hanging over my head, and Lainey’s keeping secrets of her own. With more than lust at stake, the truth may be our game changer.

Michel’s Review

I am so excited about Helena Hunting’s new hockey series. The All In series is a spin off of the Pucked Series with a brand new expansion team located in Seattle. A Lie For A Lie is the introduction to this series and actually takes place in Chicago with all of our beloved Pucked friends and family. The bonus is their world is expanding and readers are going to fall for the sexy new warriors on ice. A Lie For A Lie has set the tone and it was so much fun to read!

Every year RJ ( Rook) goes to Alaska with his brother and father on his off season to do some fishing. It’s the perfect way to decompress after a grueling season. This year is a bit different because his father passed away a few years ago and his brother was unable to attend due to complications in his wife’s pregnancy. By the time he gets the news he’s already boarding a jumper plane heading to his family’s fishing cabin. To his surprise the delightful woman who fell in his lap on the previous flight is sitting right next to him. Little did he know this would change his vacation and eventually change his world.

Lainey went to Alaska to work on her thesis while studying the mating habits of whales. It’s also a bonus  to escape her over protective family.  Little did she know she would be studying her own mating habits with the hot alpaca farmer she met on the plane. A little vacation sex, a big cabin with a comfy bed and hot water, and a loaded refrigerator with a real working stove are just what she needs. What she didn’t count on is falling head over heels in love with the hot alpaca farmer.

A family emergency, miscommunications, and a whole mess of lies lead to the end their affair in the Alaskan paradise. Those who say what happens on vacation should stay on vacation should just shut up. Most people want to remember their fantastic vacations. Some even bring home souvenirs. Rook and Lainey are no different.

One year later at one of his teammates kid’s crazy birthday party two lost lovers once again reunite. Only this time they have to face reality and tell the truth. Let the fun begin.

I absolutely loved this book and all the cameo’s from our crazy Pucked friends. It made this a truly delightful read. I can’t wait for more of this new series.

Helena Hunting has become the queen of rom-com romance. She also melts icy hearts with her hot-blooded hockey players.
