The Lake of Learning, an all-new action packed adventure from New York Times bestselling authors Steve Berry and M.J. Rose, is available now!

Lake of Learning_300dpi_FNL

For over a decade Cassiopeia Vitt has been building an authentic French castle, using only materials and techniques from the 13th century. But when a treasure is unearthed at the construction site—an ancient Book of Hours—a multitude of questions are raised, all pointing to an ancient and forgotten religious sect.

Once the Cathars existed all across southern France, challenging Rome and attracting the faithful by the tens of thousands. Eventually, in 1208, the Pope declared them heretics and ordered a crusade—the first where Christians killed Christians—and thousands were slaughtered, the Cathars all but exterminated. Now a piece of that past has re-emerged, one that holds the key to the hiding place of the most precious object the Cathars possessed. And when more than one person becomes interested in that secret, in particular a thief and a billionaire, the race is on.

From the medieval walled city of Carcassonne, to the crest of mysterious Montségur, to a forgotten cavern beneath the Pyrenees, Cassiopeia is drawn deeper and deeper into a civil war between two people obsessed with revenge and murder.

The Present

11:40 a.m.

Cassiopeia Vitt knew they’d found something important.

How?

Hard to say. Just an instinct that came from years of digging in the dirt, building a castle. It was her labor of love, one that would probably consume her entire adult life. But it was worth it. Especially at moments like this when the French soil finally yielded up its secrets.

“It’s definitely something,” Viktor said.

A dozen men and women who’d also been working at the construction site had stopped, now gathered around where she and her site superintendent stood. Viktor had been digging an exploratory trench for a new masonry wall that was scheduled to be erected next week when he hit something. The stone for it was being quarried and already rose in piles nearby. She knelt down in the muck and peered into the trench, damp from a rainstorm last night. Despite a thin film of mud, a gleam suggested precious metal.

“Looks like gold,” Viktor said.

“Any idea what it is?” she asked.

“From less than an inch exposed?” He laughed. “No idea. There’s only one way to find out. Let me dig some more.”

“I’ll help, it’ll go faster.”

“Because goodness knows patience isn’t one of your best virtues.”

“Or yours,” she teased back.

She’d been working the project for a long time. Best estimate was that the castle stood at about thirty percent complete. Three curtain walls were up, the fourth still on the drawing board. Several inner buildings had likewise been erected, their interiors though still being planned.

And Viktor was right.

Patience was not her virtue.

Together, they lay flat on their stomachs and carefully set about enlarging the find, slow and careful, using all of the proper techniques to keep it uncorrupted. Painstakingly, trowel by trowel, they removed layers of clay, rock, and debris. Finally, they exposed a corner and enough of one side to see that they’d located a gold box.

Ingénieur, it looks like you’ve got yourself a treasure chest,” Viktor said.

The staff had bestowed upon her the label of engineer during the first year of the project and, while she was generally averse to nicknames, she liked that one.

“Judging by what we can see, I’d say it’s about forty-six centimeters wide and about the same in height,” she said.

“And with that deduction I suggest we take a break. My back is killing me,” Viktor said.

Reluctantly, she agreed. Her own spine also ached from lying on her stomach too long. Yes, she was curious to uncover more. But like Viktor had noted earlier, patience seemed in order.

They left the site and headed toward the high barn that housed the reception center, there to accommodate the several thousand visitors who came every year. Inside, in the back, was an employee kitchen where Cassiopeia brewed them both espressos. Viktor sipped his. She finished hers in two gulps.

“Ready to get back to work and see if we can remove it?” she asked as she laid the cup in the sink.

“Slow down. I said a break not a breath.”

She couldn’t sit still, so she brewed herself a second coffee.

“I’m as curious as you are,” Viktor said. “But that thing has been there a long time. It’s not going anywhere. Drink your coffee.”

She knew he was right, but it was hard to tamp down her excitement. Finding artifacts was not unusual. Through the centuries the locale had played host to a variety of historical buildings, starting with a Roman fortress nearly two thousand years ago. Hundreds of items had been unearthed. Things like a 15th century ceramic jug without a chip. A pewter cape closure with a roughhewn topaz at its center. A thick brown glass bottle still containing dregs of ancient olive oil. And, really cool, a sword, maybe 13th century, in a badly deteriorated leather scabbard. All were important and valuable finds, and she planned on displaying them in a museum that would occupy part of the finished castle one day.

So what had the earth yielded this time?

Tracey’s Review

The thing that I enjoyed the most about THE LAKE OF LEARNING, the second collaboration  between authors Steve Berry and MJ Rose, is how much attention to historical detail went into the writing of this book. Yes, liberties were taken, but they were few, and what emerged is a book chock full of interesting facts about the Cathars, along with another mystery to be solved. Given both authors’ love of and involvement in history preservation, this book met my expectations, and then some.

As with THE MUSEUM OF MYSTERIES (Book 1), there is plenty of intrigue, which makes for a more interesting read for me. I would love to see more of Cotton Malone actually solving the mysteries with Cassiopeia, but she’s a pretty intrepid sleuth on her own, and does a fine job of getting to the bottom of things.

As this is a novella, it is shorter, so more like an amuse bouche, leaving me wanting more, more, more. I look forward to further adventures for Cotton and Cassiopeia, and to learning more about history in the process. In the meantime, this is a fine addition to the series, and one that fans of both Steve Barry and M.J. Rose will enjoy.

The fifth book in the #1 New York Times bestselling Field Party series—a southern soap opera with football, cute boys, and pick-up trucks—from USA TODAY bestselling author Abbi Glines.

Ryker Lee is finally enjoying his senior year—he has great friends, hangs out with hot girls, and is on track to get a football scholarship that will set him up for college. Despite this, a small part of him wonders if there’s more to life than parties and meaningless hookups—and if football even means as much to him as it does to his fellow teammates. And when he meets the new girl at school, his world totally changes…

Aurora McClay is new to Lawton. She’s grateful that her twin brother, Hunter, is star of the football team and can help her adjust to her new school, but she’s not grateful at how overprotective he is over every person she meets. Just because she is deaf does not mean people have to treat her differently. When she meets Ryker Lee, the two of them spark an instant and intense chemistry, one that proves to be controversial not only because of Ryker’s reputation as a player, but also because of Aurora and Hunter’s father’s bigoted views about who Aurora can and can’t date.

Aurora and Ryker know in their hearts that they are meant for each other. But can their relationship endure the turmoil of rumors and prejudice?

Michel’s Review

I always look forward to August because Abbi Glines usually releases a new book in The Field Party series. I love the high school “Friday Night Lights” themed books and Abbi’s Field Party series stands out among the others.

Making A Play is quite different from the other books in the series because it deals with physical issues, social issues, and contemporary peer issues.  It gives an honest insight into today’s high school environments as well as small southern town life.

Aurora McClay has moved to Lawton to live with her father and twin brother after their mother gets remarried and moves away. She had attended a high school for the deaf but now finds herself entering a mainstream high school that her brother attends. She’s excited but knows it’s going to be challenging. The one thing she never imagined would happen was that her brother would be extremely overly protective to the point of being obnoxious. She never expected to meet a boy that would capture her complete attention on the first day of school. It’s too bad this boy is completely off limits as far as her brother and father are concerned. Ryker Lee not only has a bad reputation as a player but also has the wrong skin color. Her heart wants what it wants and love always finds a way.

Ryker Lee is looking forward to his senior year. He never imagined he would experience love at first sight let alone fall for just one girl. It’s not his style until he meets a different kind of girl, Aurora McClay, his teammates twin sister. It doesn’t matter if Aurora is deaf, he will learn to sign. It doesn’t matter if her brother hates him, he won’t back down. Getting past her father’s overbearing control and racist attitude is a challenge. No obstacle will turn his heart away.

They both will have to withstand all the obstacles in their paths but both are strong, determined individuals who know what they want. They want each other.

Abbi Glines did a fantastic job with this book. Ryker and Aurora’s relationship was based on respect while still being sweet and romantic. I am in awe how Abbi delivered the story which dealt with a physical handicap and sensitive social issues while staying on a neutral playing field. This made Aurora and Ryker come to life in a much bigger way.

Making A Play by Abbi Glines is the best book in the Field Party Series. Read It!

“See you on the other side.”

Laya Marston’s husband, Cameron, a daredevil enthusiast, always said this before heading off on his next adventure. He was the complete opposite of her, ready and willing to dive off a cliff-face, or parachute across a canyon—and Laya loved him for it. But she was different: pragmatic, regimented, devoted to her career and to supporting Cameron from the sidelines of his death-defying feats.

Opposites attract, right?

But when Cameron dies suddenly and tragically, all the stages of grief go out the window. Laya becomes lost in denial, living in the delusion that Cameron will come back to her. She begins posting on his Facebook page, reminiscing about their life together, and imagining new adventures for the two of them.

Micah Evans, a young and handsome architect at Laya’s father’s firm, is also stuck––paralyzed by the banal details of his career, his friendships, and his love life. He doesn’t know what he’s looking for, only that there is someone out there who can bring energy and spirit to the humdrum of his life.

When Micah discovers Laya’s tragic and bizarre Facebook posts, he’s determined to show Laya her life is still worth living. Leaving her anonymous gifts and notes, trying to recreate the sense of adventure she once shared with her late husband, Micah finds a new passion watching Laya come out of the darkness. And Laya finds a new joy in the experiences Micah has created for her.

But for Laya, letting another man in still feels like a betrayal to her late husband. Even though Micah may be everything she could wish for, she wonders if she deserves to find happiness again.

Written with Renée Carlino’s signature “tender and satisfying” (Taylor Jenkins Reid, author of Maybe in Another Life) prose, this warm and compassionate novel shows us how powerful the courage to love and live again truly is.

Michel’s Review

***2019 Favorite***

Every time Renee Carlino releases a new novel, she challenges her readers thought process by taking them on an emotional journey in a very different way. She takes a different approach of demonstrating the validity of every human emotion and how each individual copes with the emotions they are experiencing. Not only does she deliver eye opening situations that are emotionally challenging but also presents unique solutions that take her readers on a heartfelt, emotional journey. The one thing that is present throughout each novel is the power of  HOPE and healing through LOVE.

The Last Post by Renee Carlino is by far one of  her best works to date. Two very different people are dealing with paralyzing emotions caused by events in their lives.  Laya Marston is dealing with paralyzing grief after watching her husband die in a tragic accident. Their marriage was based on a passionate whirlwind romance that was still in the newlywed stages. Their relationship was fueled by their passion which made their love burn hotter. Laya is having a hard time letting go and is emotionally paralyzed by her grief. She can’t move beyond the immense sense of loss and heartbreak. Her grief has taken over her ability to rationalize and process her loss. She deals with her grief by posting on his Facebook page and leaving messages in his voicemail. While she knows it’s not rational or realistic, in her mind it keeps her husband alive. It gives her moments of hope until it doesn’t. Her family and friends are afraid she’s gone off the deep end and don’t know how to help her move forward in life.

Micah Evans is a smart, young architect who is stuck in his life. He works at a highly respected architect firm but is still in the level entry job he started after college. He still has the same college roommate and makes the rounds at the clubs on the weekends. Rather than growing up and making an adult life, he is stuck. He is suffering from depression and a sense of hopelessness until he meets his boss’s daughter, Laya. He sees her despair and hopelessness. I makes him realize he wants to help her. By helping her it gives him a sense of purpose and hope.

What starts out as a misguided and really weird kind of relationship evolves into something neither one knew they desperately needed. Finding your soul mate isn’t always about red- hot passion and whirlwind love affairs. It’s finding the person who sees exactly who you are and understands you completely without judgement. A person who gives their complete acceptance. A person who shares your pain and your joy. A person who defines your soul and cherishes it. Although Laya and Micah are complete opposites they are true soulmates.

The Last Post by Renee Carlino is a journey of love, friendship, and hope.

Tracey’s Review

As a longtime fan of author Devney Perry, I always get excited when I see that a new book is coming our way. Although I love all of her books, when it’s part of a beloved series, a new release is even more special, because I get to revisit the places and characters that I know and love. With the release of THE CANDLE PALACE, Devney brings her Jamison Valley series to a close, and she couldn’t have picked a better book to end with.

I absolutely adore Sara and Milo. Talk about Fate putting two people together that really need each other. Sara is light to Milo during his darkest days, and, when roles reverse, he is her strength when she really needs it, allowing her to find her voice and to stand as a woman unafraid to speak her truth. Devney has a way with words, breathing a life into her stories that make them heartfelt and relatable. I experienced every emotion, Milo’s pain, then determination, Sara’s sadness, then joy. There is nothing about this story and these characters that I did not love, and their story was ‘unputdownable.’

An easy 4.5 stars, THE CANDLE PALACE is a welcome addition to these books that have become some of my favorites. Although it can be read as a standalone, if you haven’t read the rest of the series, now is the perfect time. These books will find a special place in your heart, I guarantee.

A Contemporary Romance Novel

 By

New York Times, USA Today, and #1 Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author

Penelope Ward

Synopsis:

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new standalone novel.

It was the summer of my life.

I’d met the guy of my dreams.

Unfortunately, he was the son of my uppity employer—and very much off-limits.

But Gavin was a rebel. He knew his mother would disown him if she found out about us; in his eyes, we just had to be careful.

He never treated me as his mother did—like hired help.

Instead, Gavin put me on a pedestal and loved me harder than I’d ever been loved in my life.

What a summer it was.

Until it all ended—badly.

I was never supposed to see Gavin again.

That didn’t stop me from thinking about him every day for ten years.

I knew little about his life now, just that he was an entrepreneur living an ocean away.

When a twist of fate had me working again in the very place our love affair started a decade earlier, I knew it was only a matter of time before I might see him again.

But I wasn’t prepared.

What if he hated me?

What if he loved someone else now?

I wasn’t prepared for all the unknowns.

And most of all, I wasn’t prepared for today to be the day he came back.

I looked down at her fitted white pants, covered in dirt marks. Even though she looked sexy as hell, I had to ask. “Why the hell does my mother insist on the staff wearing all white?”

“You’ll have to ask her, although I like to think of it as practice for my future nursing career.”

“I guess that’s one way to look at it. It kind of freaks me out. It’s like you’re all part of some cult.” I chuckled.

“I wonder what she’d do if I showed up in black. She’d shun me.” She snapped her fingers jokingly. “Oh wait…”

Except I wasn’t laughing now. I felt horrible that she knew exactly how my mother felt about her.

“I’m sorry she’s such a bitch, Raven.”

“It’s not your fault.” She looked out at the ocean, then promptly changed the subject. “You must be excited to go to Connecticut in the fall.”

“At this very moment, thanks to you, I’m in absolutely no rush to leave this spot, let alone Palm Beach.”

She blushed. “You’re funny.”

“You’re f*cking beautiful.” That just came out. “I’m sorry if that was too forward. But it’s true,” I said.

“No.” Her cheeks turned pink. “Thank you.”

“Do you have a boyfriend?”

She pushed some hair behind her ear. “No.”

“I want to take you out.”

She looked down at her empty cup. “I don’t think so.”

Ouch. “Can I ask why?”

“It’s not that I’m not interested, but…you’re leaving in the fall, so I’m not sure it makes sense to start anything up. Then there’s the bigger issue of your mother. I just don’t think it’s a good idea.”

“I get it.” I nodded. “I understand.”

Holy sh*t. I wasn’t used to rejection. I couldn’t remember the last time a girl had said no to me. I swear to God, my dick just stiffened. What was it about the chase that was so damn arousing? I had to find another way…

“Can we hang out as friends, then?”

She grinned skeptically. “Friends?”

“There’s this improv club near where you live. I wanted to go check it out this weekend. Would you want to go with me?”

“Venturing to the other side of the bridge, eh?” she teased. “What would Mother think?”

“Will you come with me, wiseass?”

“Seriously, what if your mom finds out?”

“She won’t. She doesn’t really question where I go. I’ll just tell her I’m going to meet a friend. And thanks to your rejection, that won’t be a lie, right?”

Raven blinked for a while before she finally answered, “Okay. Yeah.”

My heart sped up. “Yeah?”

5Star

Michel’s Review

This review is spoiler free and a bit vague. Readers should experience this story for themselves.

The Day He Came Back by Penelope Ward has released. This new contemporary novel is an emotional second chance romance which deals with many issues beyond one’s control.

Raven and Gavin were never supposed to socialize with one another let alone fall in love. She was the girl from the other side of the bridge and part of the help staff. She was off limits in his world. She was the help.

Gavin is not the typical spoiled rich boy who takes what he wants. He’s kind, considerate, compassionate, and charismatic. He was mesmerized by Raven’s simplicity and honesty. He wants a girl who is real rather than the manufactured, barbie look-a-like girls in his world.

They cannot resist one another until life steps in and rears it’s ugly head and destroys both of their hearts. Gavin’s mother will do anything to keep them apart, including destroying her son.

Ten years later Gavin is back in Palm Beach and Ravin is forced to face him. This time around their circumstances are completely different. They are both adults completely in control of their own lives. It should be a simple but life never is. Their love for one another is still burning just a brightly but now they must choose which path to take. They have built lives on separate sides of the ocean.  Their hearts still belong to one another no matter how far apart they are or what stands in their way. They need to find a common ground.

Penelope Ward once again delivered an emotional romance which includes issues and situations that can affect anyone at anytime.  Health issues and terminal illness do not discriminate.

This book was well researched and delivered with eye opening truths and heartfelt compassion. Not only did she research the medical issues but the accuracy of the settings in Palm Beach and West Palm Beach were spot on. It made this book become a reality and made the characters seem more alive. Every place, road name, and location really exists. The distinction of the wealthy islanders and the commoners across the bridge is a reality. I am a native of West Palm Beach and was floored by her accuracy. It made me miss the beauty of the Palm Beach area and want to go home.

I highly recommend reading The Day He Came Back by Penelope Ward.

About QUIET MAN:

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kristen Ashley comes a new story in her Dream Man series…

Charlotte “Lottie” McAlister is in the zone. She’s ready to take on the next chapter of her life, and since she doesn’t have a man, she’ll do what she’s done all along. She’ll take care of business on her own. Even if that business means starting a family.

The problem is, Lottie has a stalker. The really bad kind. The kind that means she needs a bodyguard.

Enter Mo Morrison.

Enormous. Scary.

Quiet.

Mo doesn’t say much, and Lottie’s used to getting attention. And she wants Mo’s attention. Badly.

But Mo has a strict rule. If he’s guarding your body, that’s all he’s doing with it.

However, the longer Mo has to keep Lottie safe, the faster he falls for the beautiful blonde who has it so together, she might even be able to tackle the demons he’s got in his head that just won’t die.

But in the end, Lottie and Mo don’t only have to find some way to keep hands off until the threat is over, they have to negotiate the overprotective Hot Bunch, Lottie’s crazy stepdad, Tex, Mo’s crew of frat-boy commandos, not to mention his nutty sisters.

All before Lottie finally gets her Dream Man.

And Mo can lay claim to his Dream Girl.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you’ll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

Excerpt:

He picked up the paper, turned it over and read it again.

It stated, plainly, he was fucked.

More alarmingly, it stated, chillingly, Mac was in danger.

This was a problem more than it was already a colossal motherfucking problem.

Any other one of his girls, he’d pick up the phone to Lee Nightingale, the man behind Nightingale Investigations, the commander of the baddest badass motherfuckers in Denver. He’d hand over this letter and he’d get this problem solved.

But Mac was Charlotte McAlister, Jet McAlister Chavez’s little sister. Jet was married to Eddie Chavez. Eddie was Lee’s best friend. And Jet worked for Indy, Lee’s wife, the Queen of the Rock Chicks, and thus Jet Chavez was a bona fide Rock Chick.

Mac might not be a card-carrying member of the Rock Chicks, mostly because she had a job where she worked nights, the time those crazy bitches instigated the most fucked-up of their varying antics. Though they weren’t averse to mornings and afternoons. It was just that the stun-gunnings, kidnappings and the like mostly took place at night, and Mac was busy then.

She was still a Rock Chick, or at least she was by association.

Considering the Rock Chick link and the blood ties to Jet, if Lee knew Mac was in danger, he’d tear the town apart to put a stop to it.

And Eddie…

Now Eddie, Smithie didn’t even want to think about it. The man was a cop. The shit Lee and his boys did with flair and a flagrant disregard to just about anything, Eddie could not do.

But Eddie wouldn’t blink at doing whatever he had to do to make his sister-in-law safe.

And the man had mouths to feed.

So yeah.

This was a problem even more than it already was a colossal motherfucking problem because Smithie couldn’t call Lee.

Which meant Smithie had to find a different set of badasses to deal with it.

His first call would normally be the Chaos Motorcycle Club. Mac wasn’t one of theirs, neither was Smithie, but they had ties to Lee, they could keep a secret, and they didn’t dick around when it came to women and their safety.

But they’d just come out of a war, and like any war, that had been some serious fucked-up shit.

They needed a breather.

Lee, and Chaos, also had ties to…

“Well, hell,” Smithie muttered, the words on the letter blurring, the sick feeling in the back of his throat easing.

He dropped the letter and picked up his cell.

If you couldn’t call a badass…

Then it was far from second best to call a commando.

Excerpt

I unlocked and opened my door.

Then I immediately, and automatically, took a step back.

All right.

Whoa.

I could get a hint from the chest and what it might be attached to with what I’d seen of that throat, but this guy had to be six five, maybe taller.

And his height was only a part of why Smithie described him the way he did.

He wasn’t “motherfucking huge.”

He was motherfucking huge.

I was average height.

But slender.

My sister had ass.

My job was physical. It wasn’t just the nightly dancing. It was the practice and constantly choreographing and adding new routines. I could probably eat a boatload, but I didn’t because I was too busy to eat, and when I did, I’d learned long ago what all the experts said was what an expert would know from studying it. Eating good food gave me more energy, made me sleep better and put me in a better mood (most of the time).

So unless the occasion was special, I put good food in my mouth and didn’t drink much outside water, flavored water, sparkling water, with the odd antioxidant vitamin drink thrown in.

So yeah, I was slender.

And two of me could make this guy.

Maybe three.

He moved forward.

I moved back.

His movements were unwieldy. Not clumsy—heavy and plodding.

It didn’t matter this guy was a bull in a china shop.

He’d terrify small children.

Hell, he’d terrify grown men.

And that had nothing to do with the gun worn openly on his hip.

It had to do with what that compression shirt barely contained, not to mention the carved protrusion of the muscles of his biceps exposed by the short sleeves, the sinewy, richly veined lengths of his forearms and the trunks of his long legs covered in dark gray commando pants.

He shut the door behind him, twisted at the waist and I heard the lock click.

He twisted back to me.

“Hey,” I forced out.

He dipped his chin.

“You’re Mo,” I stated unnecessarily.

“Yup,” he agreed.

Michel’s Review

Quiet Man by Kristen Ashley is the book / novella her fans have been waiting for. An opportunity to revisit the beloved Dream Man characters, some of the Rock Chick characters, Smitty, and TEX.  A pure delight to finally see the extraordinary superstar pole dancer and pesky little sister Lottie Mac finally get her happy ever after.

Smitty has been receiving threatening letters concerning Lottie Mac at the strip clubs. He is very concerned and knows that taking care of the situation is a very delicate matter because of the infamous “Rock Chicks”. He can’t hire Nightingale Security because of their family and Rock Chick connections to Lottie. Once again he can’t go to the police for the same reason. The only thing he can do is bring in Hawk and his team to take care of the dangerous stalker situation.

The first thing Hawk does is assign Lottie a bodyguard twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.  Hawk assigns his best man, Mo Morrison, to the job. Mo is known for his complete focus and ability to protect his client.  They underestimated the charming powers of Charlotte “Lottie Mac” MacAlister and it has nothing to do with her talent on the pole. Lottie is going to distract Mo with her perfectly organized refrigerator, her healthy dietary dishes, her clever conversation skills, and genuine big heart.

He needs to eliminate the threat to Lottie’s life so he can claim her as his own. After all she is a Rock Chick by relation, and no man can resist that. Lottie has her heart set on Mo and no stalker is going to stop her from claiming her man.

Kristen Ashley charmed me once again. It was wonderful to go back to one of my favorite “reading worlds” and visit with old friends while making new ones. I hope there’s more to come.

About KRISTEN ASHLEY:

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorize and she hadn’t taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen’s Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing’s changed.

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she’s blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.

Tracey’s Review
Author Beth Ankenman delivers nicely with her new release, THE BEST FRIEND PROBLEM. Lighthearted, humorous, and sexy, with plenty of sweet and tender moments mixed in, this book was a delight to read, and a good take on the friends-to-lovers trope.

Pru and Finn know each other so well and are so comfortable with each other that it’s an almost easy step over the ‘friends only’ line, and the affection and growing feelings that they develop for each other as events unfold make for the perfect segue to an HEA. The fact that both characters are likable, intelligent, and actual adults with real adult lives made this book even more enjoyable, and, if events are prettier than they might be in real life, well, this is a romance, after all.

A strong cast of supporting characters, a cute as a button fur baby, and an entertaining and heartwarming storyline made this book a pleasure to read, and one that is an easy recommendation to fans of sweet and steamy romances with an ending that will ensure a smile.

A flirty standalone novel* from New York Times and international bestselling author Elle Kennedy!

One night with him will change her life…

Between her waitressing job, volunteer work, and college classes, there are never enough hours in Maggie Reilly’s day. Especially not for a relationship. Luckily, she’s got the perfect arrangement: a lover she meets three or four times a year. But when she shows up at the hotel expecting to hop into bed with one man, she accidentally ends up with another—Ben Barrett, Hollywood’s most notorious bad boy.

Ben, determined to lay low after another scandal, just wants some much-needed sleep. What he gets is a scorching make-out session with a gorgeous, naked redhead. He won’t accept her apology, but what he will accept is a place to hide out…and if there’s some hot, no-strings sex involved, why the heck not?

But Ben soon discovers that one week with his sassy, bed-hopping waitress is definitely not enough. He wants more. A lot more.

Now he needs to convince relationship-averse Maggie that a bad boy might be oh so good for her—and the best thing that’s ever happened to both of them.

* Previously published in 2008, Bad Apple (formerly Midnight Encounters) features almost entirely new content, including a point-of-view switch. Enjoy this new version of an old favorite!

Michel’s Review

Although Bad Apple by Elle Kennedy is a re-release from 2008, it is still a current, steamy, sexy, Hollywood romance.

This story takes place in New York City when Hollywood Bad Boy film star, Ben Barrett, is on the run from the paparazzi. Taking refuge in a small, somewhat seedy hotel idea seems like a good place to lay low and get some sleep. He never thought he’d be woken up by a naked, sexy redhead in his bed. He could never imagine that this new scandal would forever change his life.

Maggie Reilly barely has time to take a few hours off let alone date. She has a scheduled hookup twice a year with a travel journalist when he is in New York. When she discovers the man in her room is not her hookup, she is downright mortified. When she finds out who he is, she is running in the opposite direction. She does not have time for his Hollywood nonsense but she can sympathize with his current problem. When she offers him one night of refuge in her apartment it turns into something else completely. It could destroy her perfectly synchronized life or become the best thing that ever happened to her. She just has to take the first step and take a bite of what Ben is offering.

I read this novella years ago when it was first released and loved it. Reading it eleven years later was like reconnecting with a good memory. This story can still stand on it’s own merit and is still current in today’s fast paced society. It didn’t feel dated or technically behind today’s trends. Elle’s writing is good enough to stand the test of time and still capture the reader’s complete heart.

I highly recommend Bad Apple by Elle Kennedy. It is the perfect book to read on your lunch break or tight schedule.

John
I have no idea how to survive without my beloved Ava. She had no choice but to move on with her life during my six-year deployment and has now married Eric. I hate him for taking her from me. I’d prefer to wallow in my depression and heartbreak, but the whole damned world wants a piece of the SEAL Team leader who helped capture the world’s most-wanted terrorist. I need help handling the relentless requests, and when Ava sends her new sister-in-law to manage the media circus for me, I’m prepared to hate her on principle. Her brother took my Ava. What else do I need to know about her?

Julianne
It takes five seconds to realize Ava’s ex is going to be the most complicated and difficult client I’ve ever had, but the opportunity to represent the most celebrated man in the world could make my career. I’m determined to do the job, even if I dislike John from the moment I meet him. And I like everyone. So much so that my brothers worry about me being exploited by those who would take advantage of my unwavering love for others. But John… He’s in a class by himself, and his bitterness is a festering wound that I begin to wish I could somehow fix for him. The more time we spend together, the more our mutual disdain morphs into something that feels an awful lot like desire. There’s no way I can want this man, or so I tell myself, and when Eric finds out I’ve developed feelings for the man causing trouble in his new marriage, well…

That’s going to be a hot mess.

Tracey’s Review

Returning to a hero’s welcome, but having lost the one thing that kept him going for six long years has made John West an angry, bitter man. With nothing to look forward to, he’s waiting for the time that he can disappear quietly from the limelight, and just exist. Before he can do that, though, John has obligations to fulfill, and not even his cranky ‘leave me alone’ attitude will keep Julianne Tilden, his newly assigned PR rep from making sure that he does.

When Marie Force released FIVE YEARS GONE, I was enraptured from the first page, and could not put it down. To realize that there was more to come, that Marie was going to give us the rest of the story, John West’s after, I could not have been happier, because I was not ready for the story to be over. She has totally hit the mark with ONE YEAR HOME, writing with the same angsty, passionate voice that made the first book such a win for me.

I adored everything about this book. John and Julianne are perfect together, bringing out things in each other that allow them to be the best version of themselves. This is a story about forgiveness, both of self and others, of taking a leap of faith and saying ‘Yes,’ to what comes next, even if it’s uncertain and uncomfortable, and, most of all, it’s about love, the kind of limitless love that stretches boundaries and sets us free.

It’s helpful to have read FIVE YEARS GONE before diving in to ONE YEAR HOME, as Ava and Eric have a part in this book, too, and it helps make sense of the way that John’s and Jules’s story unfolds. Marie has done a fantastic job of bringing things full circle, and easing the heartbreak that all of these characters have gone through. ONE YEAR HOME is one of the best books I’ve read this year, and I could not have enjoyed it more.

Blurb:

Life is a mixed bag for Piper Calloway.

On the one hand, she’s a twenty-nine-year-old VP at her dad’s multibillion-dollar real estate development firm, and living the high single life with her two best friends in a swanky downtown penthouse. On the other hand, she’s considered a pair of sexy legs in a male-dominated world and constantly has to prove her worth. Plus, she’s stuck seeing her narcissistic ex-fiancé—a fellow VP—on the other side of her glass office wall every day.

Things get exponentially more complicated for Piper when she runs into Kyle Miller—the handsome new security guard at Calloway Group Industries, and coincidentally the first love of her life.

The guy she hasn’t seen or heard from since they were summer camp counsellors together. The guy from the wrong side of the tracks. The guy who apparently doesn’t even remember her name.

Piper may be a high-powered businesswoman now, but she soon realizes that her schoolgirl crush is not only alive but stronger than ever, and crippling her concentration. What’s more, despite Kyle’s distant attitude, she’s convinced their reunion isn’t at all coincidental, and that his feelings for her still run deep. And she’s determined to make him admit to them, no matter the consequences.

Michel’s Review

I have been a fan of K.A. Tucker for many years. I have devoured everyone of her books and walked away astonished by the depth of her storytelling and sense of romance. Say Your Still Mine is another fantastic addition to her title collections.

Say Your Still Mine is a second chance contemporary romance with a seasoning of mature YA romance and New Adult romance. The story follows a duel timeline of the past and present blended perfectly to keep the reader intrigued with the present but intensely connected to the past.

Piper Calloway was sent to Camp Wawa to be a camp counselor when she was sixteen. Rather than going to a camp for privileged children, she is going to the camp her mother went to as a child. Her parents want her to experience how the normal world spins. Although her parents have worldly wisdom, they are far from the perfect family. Her father is a workaholic, her older brother is estranged from the family and living across the world teaching English. Her parents are struggling with marital problems and the best solution for all them is to take a summer break.

Going to Camp Wawa changes Piper’s life. She learned valuable life lessons and found the true meaning of friendship. She met her soulmate, Kyle Miller, a boy from the other side of the tracks. She fell deeply in love and experienced passion for the first time. It all ended once summer was over. She has always wondered why Kyle dropped off the face of the earth and never tried to contact her. She kept in contact with her two of her closest friends from camp but lost touch with others. What happened that summer changed all of their lives in one way or another.

Thirteen years later her career is on the fast track. She’s destined to take over her father’s company but first she must prove herself to her father and other co-workers. While her career is challenging it is also stalled because of one person. Dealing with the frustrations in the office is one thing but when she spots Kyle Miller in her building working as a security guard it takes a new direction. At first he denies he ever knew her until he couldn’t.

Life has changed a lot in thirteen years but Piper and Kyle’s love for another is stronger than ever. They just have to find a new mutual ground. They also have to go back to the past and unbury the secrets they left behind at camp in order to move forward.
