Michel’s Review

It’s always a delight to read anything written by Kylie Scott. It is an extra bonus when her latest novella is set in the Stage Dive world and we get to re-visit some of our favorite rockers and yes that includes the one of a kind percussionists that doles out dating advice while parenting his puppy. Alas, the Stage Dive members are not the stars of this novella but one of their security team agents, Ziggy Thayer, has been hired to protect their neighbor, plus size super- model Mae Cooper. While Ziggy is all kinds of hot and can rock a suit, he is also good at his job. He’s her to protect Mae.

Mae has a stalker who has been sending bloody gifts that are raising all kinds of warning flags. The stalker has escalated from threatening letters to threatening gifts. Ziggy believes this is only the beginning and wants to find the person behind the threats. Although He loves protecting Mae but would rather put his hands on her a different way. She has won his heart with her down to earth personality and great sense of humor. Why anyone would want to hurt this beautiful soul is beyond him but he knows there are all kinds of crazies in the world. It’s his job to neutralize the crazy.

Mae and Ziggy are dancing around what they really want to do with each other. When the threat is finally eliminated… watch out because these two are going to bring down the house.

Once again Kylie Scott wrote a delightful novella and created fun-loving, likable characters that make the Stage Dive world even more delightful. She added her special blend of snarky humor and sarcasm while also maintaining a sexy romance. I loved it!

Closer is a fun, fast paced novella that will keep the reader fully engaged and entertained.

Title: Someday, Somehow
Author: Claudia Burgoa
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: October 3, 2019

Blurb
Men and women can be friends.

At least that’s what I’ve been telling myself since George walked into my life.

We bicker as much as we have each other’s backs.

We’re inseparable.

So, she left to find herself and I feel like I can’t breathe without her.

It’s okay, it’s only temporary.

But when she walks back into my life, it’s on the arm of a stranger.

Her fiancé.

Seriously, I just realized I’m in love with her and she’s engaged?I have six weeks to convince George we’re meant to be together—not only in the
kitchen or be forced to watch her marry another man.

Time is running out, and soon, she’ll be gone from my life.

I’m risking everything, will that be enough?

Someday, Somehow is a sexy romantic comedy that’s
equal parts funny and flirty.
Made of Honor clashes with When Harry Met Sally in a
sweet and seductive love story of hopeful hearts and second chances.

Excerpt

EXCERPT

“A junior invited me,” Megan said excitedly. “It might be the party of the year.”

Party?

It looks like Union Square during New Year’s Eve.

What is everyone waiting for?

This party wasn’t worth the three-mile walk from our dorm to here.

The cheap alcohol tops it all. I didn’t get drunk with the first sip of a screwdriver; I got a massive headache. This isn’t for me. The circle of girls gossiping about everything as they wait to be swooped by some guy—not my scene.

Haven’t we done this for the past twelve hours? Chat about nonsense. This is why I don’t have many friends. I was too busy with my extracurricular activities that I skipped socializing 101. Give me a good book to read. A movie to watch or a marathon on TBS or Nick at Nite to keep me up all night.  I suggest we leave, and what does roommate-dearest say in response? “I’ll find you a place to crash.”

The bedroom is dark but clean. I grab a sweatshirt and even a bear I find on the floor. It only takes a few seconds for me to fall asleep. It is quiet, smells of sandalwood and pine, and the sheets are soft.

I miss home.

Everything is going well until the guy from the coffee shop wakes me up. I swear it feels like a dream. A nightmare. But after we talk, I realize he’s not as bad as I thought. He’s one of the good guys but likes to pretend he’s anything but.

His food…who knew eggs could taste this great? In exchange for yet another plate, I could offer to fix the light fixtures. This place is off code.

And there I go, thinking like my father. Instead of teaching me construction, he should’ve taught me how to socialize. I wish my aunts had been around more often during my teenage years. I’d be a little cooler, or at least I’d know how to make friends easily.

Auggie takes the empty plate from my hands and offers me some milk. I nod, that sounds better than whatever they’re serving upstairs.

“It must be hard moving away from all your friends and family,” he says.

I shrug and smile. I don’t make friends easily. Well, actually, I don’t make friends at all. Dad and I have always been on the run. Running to school, running to a construction site, running to tae kwon do, running to the grocery store…

There’s never time to exchange more than a greeting and a weak how are you before I have to go again.

During my spare time I help Dad around the house or at work. If I do the latter, it pays for my knickknacks, and I get to spend time with him.

“It’s just Dad and me,” I remind him.

“Any other family?”

“Mom’s family faded away after she died. Dad’s sisters stepped up, but now they have their own families, so during my teenage years it was just the two of us.” I drink some of the milk he poured me.

“Grandparents?”

“How about you?” I fire back without answering his question. And study him.

He’s not as bad as I thought earlier. In fact, he’s very nice. And good looking. Tall, mussed-up, dark hair, hazel eyes. Black t-shirt hugging his lean and defined muscles. There’s a playful tug at the corner of his mouth, and I see a dimple forming on the left side of his cheek.

He turns me on, but he’s he and well, I’m me.

5Star
Michel’s Review
Claudia Burgoa has fallen under a special magical star that has transformed her already excellent writing talent to a whole new level.  Her last few books have been romantic perfection.
***
.
I absolutely loved Someday Somehow because I could easily identify with both Georgie and Auggie on some many levels.  We all have that special friend that means more than words could describe. This special kind of friendship is a safety zone where anything can be said or done without judgement and complete support.
***
Auggie and Georgie met in college and decided they needed a best friend rather than a one night stand or coed fling. This friendship survived attempted dating endeavors, the pressures of academic success, the floundering of finding the right kind of career that will fit for years, family expectations, and dreams for the future. The one thing they took for granted was each other until it was almost too late.  They both realized their love for one another at the wrong times and neither knew how to express the real feelings in their heart. It will take a sabbatical in Europe, an abrupt career change, a creative culinary challenge, and complete focus before they find their happily ever after.
***
Claudia Burgoa captured the perfect friendship floundering to find true love. She brought her characters, both Georgia and Auggie to life through their passions in cooking. They expressed themselves by creating the perfect dish for every emotional moment. Love is hard enough to express with words but even harder when it could ruin the perfect friendship.  They both had to recognize their own personal weakness and learn to deal with them by themselves. They had to fix themselves first.
***
Claudia Burgoa created my favorite kind of romance with friendship to lovers theme. I loved every aspect of Someday Somehow.

Title: The Bangover
Author: Lili Valente
Genre: Red Hot Romantic Comedy
Release Date: October 3, 2019
Blurb

Dear Self—Do not pass Go, do not bang your oldest friend
in the limo on the way to the swanky Vegas hotel. Just get back on the plane,
fly home, and forget you almost had co-ed naked best buddy time with the one
man who is completely off limits.
I give myself very good advice.
Too bad I suck at taking it.
Not that Colin Donovan, my bad boy rock star best friend, is
any help. Walking around looking ridiculously sexy, telling me I’m beautiful
and fun and perfect the way I am and somehow making me believe it.
If only we hadn’t drunk so much whiskey that first night, if
only I’d kept that red bikini in my suitcase, if only his evil ex-girlfriend
hadn’t come sniffing around making me feel all territorial and protective.
And if only I hadn’t been secretly in love with Colin for
years before this Friends with Bennies Vacation got started.
Who knows? Maybe the high will be worth the fall.
Either way, there’s no way I’m leaving Vegas without one
heck of a Bangover.
The Bangover is a red-hot, laugh out loud rom-com
featuring two best friends on a collision course with Vegas-flavored
disaster—and each other. It stands alone. No cheating or cliffhangers.

“A Crooked Crown is still a Crown, right?” Raven Carver

When I first read Boys of Brayshaw when it released early this year, I knew that I had found a hidden gem in author Meagan Brandy. She was relatively new to me and bully romance was really gaining a following so I figured I’d check it out. I fell in love with Raven and the boys immediately and began exhibiting symptoms of Brayshaw Fever… well soon it turned into a full-blown epidemic… and here we are now… Reign of Brayshaw.

This book!!!! The feels y’all!! It was everything and more that we could have ever wanted from Meagan. This is the final book for Raven and Maddoc but not the end of our beloved Brayshaw Clan. This book was a roller-coaster y’all… I’m talking like the tallest, scariest, fastest roller-coaster. I think I got whiplash at least a dozen times with how many loops were thrown at us. As with the previous books, Raven is a complete Queen and isn’t going to let anyone walk all over her. She fights hard in this book. She is determined to protect her boys at all cost, even if it kills her.

There’s a lot of things I didn’t see coming. The element of surprise is real with this book. The answer readers have wanted, they will finally get. I think Maddoc really showed another side of himself that we’ve never seen. He’s strong but he’s weak too. We see that in this book which makes me love our bad boy even more than I thought I could. Captain is… I can’t even begin to describe my affections for him. I’ve loved him since the beginning and will always be a fan and can’t wait to see what lies in his future. Royce, our sweet yummy man brings some chuckles when needed for sure.

Shout out to the secondary characters that have been with us along the way too! They each really helped fill in the blanks in a lot of dark areas.

Anyway, I’m rambling because I don’t want to give anything away but I loved this book and found it the perfect ending for our King and Queen… I cannot wait to see glimpses of them in future books!

5 stars!

Tracey’s Review

Well, reader friends, I can say without reservation that Meghan March knows how to keep us invested. WHITE KNIGHT starts off with a bang, jumping right back into the thick of the action that was coming from every direction at the end of BLACK SHEEP. Man, this is mafia romance at its best, with twists, turns, and revelations enough to keep me guessing right up until the very end.

At the heart of it, WHITE KNIGHT is a love story, on more than one level. Romantic love, familial love, the bonds of friendship, they’re all here, and I fell more in love with Cannon, Drew, and all the rest of the far-flung members of their clan. And, at the end of it, Meghan’s done her usual wonderful job of bringing all the pieces together to give a story that I’ll remember for a long while to come.

As this is a duet, it is an absolute must to read BLACK SHEEP first, because you will be lost if you try to jump right in to this book. And, the truth is, you don’t want to miss one juicy detail, one action-packed minute, of the entire story, believe me. These Cassos are one complex bunch, and the surprises keep coming, one right after the other.

As if all of this wasn’t enough, we get the first look at Gabriel Legend, too, so, y’all, don’t be dawdling, make this duet a part of your must-be-read piles. You’ll be glad that you did. ❤️

Charlie Sullivan despises Christmas. Though it keeps his family afloat, considering they own Sullivan Family Christmas Tree Farm, the main provider for Christmas trees on the Monterey peninsula. He’d much rather work among the trees versus have to deal with people.

When Charlie’s mom asks Candice to accompany him to a variety of holiday parties and events, she reluctantly agrees. New Release + Release Blitz + Excerpt + Giveaway: Ribbons of Scarlet by Laura Kamoie, Stephanie Dray, Kate Quinn, E. Knight, Sophie Perinot, and Heather Webb

Today we have the release blitz of Ribbons of Scarlet! Check out the gorgeous new release and grab your copy today!

Title: Ribbons of Scarlet

Authors: Laura Kamoie * Kate Quinn * Stephanie Dray * Sophie Perinot * Heather Webb * E. Knight

Genre: Historical Fiction

About Ribbons of Scarlet:

Ribbons of Scarlet is a timely story of the power of women to start a revolution—and change the world.

In late eighteenth-century France, women do not have a place in politics. But as the tide of revolution rises, women from gilded salons to the streets of Paris decide otherwise—upending a world order that has long oppressed them.

Blue-blooded Sophie de Grouchy believes in democracy, education, and equal rights for women, and marries the only man in Paris who agrees. Emboldened to fight the injustices of King Louis XVI, Sophie aims to prove that an educated populace can govern itself–but one of her students, fruit-seller Louise Audu, is hungrier for bread and vengeance than learning. When the Bastille falls and Louise leads a women’s march to Versailles, the monarchy is forced to bend, but not without a fight. The king’s pious sister Princess Elisabeth takes a stand to defend her brother, spirit her family to safety, and restore the old order, even at the risk of her head.

But when fanatics use the newspapers to twist the revolution’s ideals into a new tyranny, even the women who toppled the monarchy are threatened by the guillotine. Putting her faith in the pen, brilliant political wife Manon Roland tries to write a way out of France’s blood-soaked Reign of Terror while pike-bearing Pauline Leon and steely Charlotte Corday embrace violence as the only way to save the nation. With justice corrupted by revenge, all the women must make impossible choices to survive–unless unlikely heroine and courtesan’s daughter Emilie de Sainte-Amaranthe can sway the man who controls France’s fate: the fearsome Robespierre.

National Convention

Paris, France

December 1792

“There she is, the harlot . . .”

“La femme Roland . . .”

“Traitorous slut . . .”

The whispers followed me as I made my way across the floor, looking neither right nor left. It was the first time a woman had been called to address the Convention, and I’d dressed for the occasion as though it were an honor: a blue gown that foamed about my feet as I stalked to the bar, a white fichu pinned with my tricolor cockade, red ribbons twined through my hair. A revolutionary patriot, top to toe. When I turned to face the questions, I let my eyes travel, bold and confident, to the high bleacher seats where the radical Jacobins held court.

Before the proceedings could even begin, some heckler from their ranks called, “How do you answer the charge of treason, citizeness?”

I replied with calm contempt. “The charge is ludicrous, and all here know it.”

It was a smear job of the crudest kind: an unsavory informer reporting he had discovered a London conspiracy to restore the king, and that my husband and I were complicit. My husband had already been summoned to account for himself and had perhaps not done as well as he might: he couldn’t hide his indignation, and he became flustered when the tone turned sneering. I would not give my questioners a chance to sneer.

“The informer states clearly, Citizeness Roland, that you—”

“I did not summon him.” I spoke briskly, taking the reins before my questioner could bring down the whip and speed this interrogation to the pace my enemies wanted. This was going to go at my pace, not theirs. “From my files of letters I can see the man wrote to me, asking for an interview with Minister Roland. I receive dozens of such requests every week.”

“You do not deny you received the man?”

“He paid a brief call, and from his probing I concluded he was sent to sound us out about some scheme or other.” I smiled. “Or perhaps I was wrong. I am a woman and not skilled in these matters.”

The questioner took turns with his colleagues, trying to turn my words on me, trying to talk me in circles. As long as I had listened to politicians drone over my dinner table, I could talk anyone in circles. I shredded their accusations and stamped the shreds underfoot, feeling the color rise in my cheeks—not embarrassment, but the fierce heat of pride. Was this what Roland felt when he addressed the Convention? This rush of power that tingled the fingertips, the confidence that my words were deploying like obedient soldiers and the crowd sat in the palm of my hand? Why would anyone who had command of this floor ever leave it?

Finally, I was excused to the sound of ringing applause among the deputies, the charge dismissed in full, the honors of the session formally accorded to me. I looked from Robespierre to Danton to Marat with a wide bland smile as I glided out, and the smile became a beam as my husband drew me into the nearest empty hall.

“Thank goodness it’s over.” His face was creased with relief. “Let me take you home, calm your nerves.”

“My nerves are calm, and I can take myself home. You stay, speak with those who need reassuring.”

He kissed my forehead. “I hated seeing you up there,” he muttered, before rushing back inside.

He’d hardly gone before a low voice spoke behind me, prickling my skin. “I loved seeing you up there. You were born to it.”

I turned, smile draining away. The man who loved me stood feet planted wide, arms folded, dark hair rumpled—he must have been waiting to catch me alone. “Citizen,” I managed to say, not daring to put his name through my lips.

“You were brilliant,” he said quietly. “Brave as a lioness.” A voice of calm power for a man not yet thirty-three. Six years younger than I, what did that say about me? “They should have known better than to try to trap you in so crude a snare.”

“That shabby excuse for a conspiracy might have been crude, but it was real, even if we had no involvement.” I kept my voice brisk, turning the conversation to safer waters. “As long as the king lives, there will be plots to restore him. The matter will have to be dealt with.”

“The king is just a man, and a small one.”

“With a long shadow.”

We both smiled involuntarily. It had always been like that with us, the eager cut-and-thrust of our minds. “If you wish to speak to my husband . . .”

But the man who loved me took my hand.

“Manon, I honor Roland and support him always. But I am here for you.”
