Michel’s Review

Fight For Her Vol. 4 by JJ Knight is the final book in this series.  Maddie has once again left Parker without an explanation or goodbye.  She refuses to take his calls.  She has reverted to only allowing Lily to talk to her father on Thursday nights.  Everything seemed to be falling into place in their relationship.  They were finally communicating and working to find solutions for their problems.  They were on the right track to becoming a real family.  Everything was going great until the last fight in Vegas and the attack from past enemies.

Maddie has returned to New York and shut Parker out.  Parker is facing the biggest fight of his career.  This fight is for a title and could put him in the big leagues.  Without Maddie and Lily in his corner his career means nothing.  He is willing to give it all up for his girls.

Parker is determined to make things right in his life.  He sets out on a mission to fix all the wrongs that have affected their lives.  He intends to get Maddie’s homeless father off the streets, end his fighting career, and become the father Lily needs.

When the truth comes out about Maddie’s abrupt departure, it will change his recent decision.  A former friend has endangered his family.  He will stop at nothing to take down that friend and keep his family safe.  This time he has Maddie on his side.

The Fight For Her series has been an addicting series that showcased more than the MMA world.  This series focused on the importance of love and family.  It focused on becoming a better person and making personal sacrifices for others.

JJ Knight is a talented writer.  She incorporates romantic suspense, emotional angst, steamy love scenes, and gripping cliffhangers.  By the end of the series the readers have had a very satisfying reading experience.

I am looking forward to future works by JJ Knight.  Keep a watch out for JJ Knight’s next project in early 2015.  She will be writing as Annie Winters with partner Tony West.  The new series is called Vigilante’s Lover.  It is a spin off from one of the sexy characters in the Fight For Her series.  Jax DeLuca is going to rock our world, burn up the sheets, and redefine the meaning of safe house.  More to come….

“She sat beside me on the bus – and she changed my whole life.”

Successful, wealthy and absurdly handsome – Spanish ex-football player Mateo Casalles seemed like he had it all. But there was more to Mateo than met the eye – a life of uncertainty and regret that colored his black and white world.

That was until Vera Miles came into his life like a shooting star. Tattooed, wild and young, Vera seemed like Mateo’s polar opposite at first. But you can’t choose who you fall in love with and the two lost souls did everything they could to be together, all while suffering the grave consequences.

Now with Mateo divorced and living in Madrid with Vera, there is a whole new set of challenges and setbacks facing the couple and rocking the foundation of their star-crossed relationship.

“Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.”

I turn in my chair and give Vera a curious look. Yet another English saying that I don’t know. “I’m afraid I don’t understand.”

She gives me a soft but tired smile and sits down on the arm rest. I immediately wrap my arm around her waist and pull her down into my lap, where she comes to a rest with a giggle, her hair obscuring the impish smile on her face. No matter where she is, I can never stop touching her and now more than ever I need her to relax, to feel safe, to know I’m going to get us out of this.

“Explain,” I demand. “Or I will punish you with kisses.”

She raises her brow. “Followed by punishment by penis?”

I shrug. “That can be arranged. Now, tell me my Estrella.”

She sighs and buries her lips into my neck. I can’t help the small moan that escapes from me, nor my hardness building beneath her plump, round ass. I close my eyes and fight the urge to pick her up and take her to the bedroom, the only other way I know how to make her feel safe and sated, the only way I know how to escape.

“Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned,” she says against my throat, “is a saying. I don’t know where it’s from but it means, well, nothing is scarier than a pissed off bitch.” She pauses, sucking in her breath and I know she fears she’s said the wrong thing. “Sorry,” she quickly adds and I feel her body tense up beneath my fingers. “I didn’t mean that Isabel is a bitch.”

She is still so skittish over her words, the way she blurts things out, but it’s one of the reasons why I love her. I cup the back of her head with my hand and let the softness of her hair sink over me. “I know you didn’t,” I assure her. “And, well, she is being a bitch.”

“Can you blame her though?” she asks, her voice rising a pitch and when she pulls away from me, her eyes are wet. It breaks my heart. I’m getting tired of my heart breaking and I know that this isn’t going to change anytime soon. Every day there is another weight on us, another crack appears.

“No,” I tell her honestly. “I cannot blame her.”

A silence lapses over us, heavy like a wool cloak. It does this sometimes. What we’ve done, it coats us.

Finally she clears her throat. “She’s going to hurt for a long time,” she says. “She’s going to be angry. This isn’t going away. I thought everything was behind us now, that she’d move on. You’ve been divorced for a year, if she’s still this mad a year out…”

“She is mad because I am going back to Atletico,” I tell her. “She is mad because of the paparazzi, the way they are hounding us again. She is mad because she feels she is being made to look like a fool. If I had just stayed with my head down, she wouldn’t be doing this.”

“But you can’t live your life in fear, Mateo,” she tells me.

I smile at her and brush her sunset hair from her face. “And neither can you.”

She settles back against my body, sinks, conforms, melds. She is second skin. She is a part of myself I can’t bear to separate from. I pray I never have to. I pray we can survive whatever is coming our way.

And I can feel it coming, that tension, that storm rolling in the weeks and days.

I pick her up in my arms and for all her pillowy curves, she weighs nothing more than a feather. I take her down the hall to the bedroom, throw her on the bed.  She glows in the afternoon sun that streams in through our window and it isn’t long before we are both naked and I am climbing over her, pinning her arms above her head and drinking in her body like the most beautiful, decadent wine.

I will devour her until all of this is gone.

I will consume her until we are all that’s left.

I push inside her and let my hunger take over.

Robin’s Review

My sincere appreciation goes out to author Karina Halle for providing an advanced reader copy of Love, in Spanish. I am once again honored to provide my honest review.

Love, in Spanish is the new companion novel to the contemporary romance Love, in English. It’s a brand new story from author Karina Halle that offers a glimpse of characters Mateo Casalles and Vera Miles approximately one year after the events of Love, in English.

Karina Halle has created some impressive male characters, and she is exceptionally talented when writing from a man’s point of view. Dex Foray. Javier Bernal. Sage Knightley. Camden McQueen. And now, Mateo Casalles. Mateo is mature, responsible, a father who dearly loves his daughter. He wants to provide for those that he loves. Mateo is proud. Loving. Sexy. Territorial. Mateo claims Vera as his own. He sees Vera in his future. If you have read Love, in English you know this.

But circumstances have not been perfect for Mateo and Vera. They face problems which seem to be compounded by Mateo being a high-profile public figure. They are citizens of two different countries, struggling to overcome language and cultural barriers. Their fifteen-year age difference seems to be insurmountable. Mateo has a bitter ex-wife, the paparazzi is unrelenting, and they both have work-related issues.

If anything can go wrong, it simply does. For this reason, the tone of Love, in Spanish felt somewhat discouraging to me. But I also found it believable that a couple with this many differences is going to struggle with problems. It was how Mateo and Vera responded to these problems that felt real, emotional and true. This author’s words have a tendency to pull at reader emotions. I clearly felt the desperation and sadness of these characters through the writing. Karina Halle is a gifted writer. She has the capability of bringing a scene to life by combining random details with sensory descriptive words. The overall effect is extraordinary. Love, in Spanish is full of the same top-notch writing that her fans have come to expect. The writing just flows beautifully. For Love, in Spanish, Halle has earned a solid 4-star rating!

Michel’s Review

It’s interesting how two people can read the same book at the same time and walk away with different impressions and thoughts.  Robin and I both had the privilege of receiving ARC copies of Love In Spanish.

Love In Spanish is the sequel to Love In English by Karina Halle.  Love In English had mixed reactions from readers of the romance genre.  It’s subject matter, a forbidden love between an older married man and young free spirited woman rocked the norms expected in a romance novel.  This book did not condone adultery.  It was a story of two people that found  their once in a lifetime soulmate at the wrong time.  While Love In English was a beautiful love story, it was also brutally honest about the repercussions of an illicit affair.  It portrayed the ugliness of betraying a marriage, hurting all those that you love, losing the respect of your friends, piers, and general population.  It portrayed the death of a relationship and the grieving of that loss.  It was a story of picking up the pieces and moving on in life.  Moving onto the life that was meant to be lived and celebrated.  It was not an easy road and the characters wore their battle wounds with pride and regret.

Love In Spanish occurs one year after Love In English.  Mateo Casalles and Vera Miles have survived the initial shock that their forbidden relationship has rendered.  They are building a life together after tearing apart the lives they once lived.  The road is not easy for this couple.  They have a lot of obstacles to overcome before their relationship can be a true success.  These obstacles could destroy the beautiful bright shining love they have found with one another.

Mateo Casalles is a high profile individual.  He was a former soccer star and married into a very affluent family.  He was also a highly successful businessman.  When he left his wife for a younger Canadian woman it created a scandal that the paparazzi is exploiting.  Not only is his relationship with Vera being exploited, they are exploiting his relationship with his young daughter, feeding fuel to his ex wife’s grievances, and exploiting his new career.

If that isn’t enough to destroy his and Vera’s relationship, they have other things working against them.  They are from different countries and citizenship issues may pull them apart.  There is also the fact that their nationalities create a vast difference in their cultural upbringings and beliefs.

There is also the issue of their age difference and maturity levels.  Mateo is at the age where he is more settled, confident in his maturity, and has a firm grasp of what he wants in life.  Vera is still quite young.  She has not finished her degree and settled into a career, she has not thought about what she wants out of a lasting relationship, in fact she has never been in a serious relationship.  She is insecure with her inexperience.  Mateo is insecure with his age.

Vera and Mateo have a lot of obstacles to overcome.  They will have to learn what works best in their relationship.  They will have to choose how to handle all the negative press that is destroying their lives.  They will have to choose to fight for their love or let their relationship burn out.  Neither one is willing to let this happen.

Love In Spanish is a beautiful continuation of a difficult love story.  There is never a question of Mateo’s and Vera’s love for one another.  It is beautiful how they cling to one another when the world is tearing them down.

Karina Halle wrote an emotional love story that is brutally honest.  She did not skim around the ugly issues that comes in the aftermath of divorce.  She allowed these characters to suffer the ramifications of their affair.  This made their love more credible.  It also made their relationship stronger.  Both Mateo and Vera grew as human beings.  They also learned that love is worth fighting for.

I highly recommend Love In Spanish.

He’s thirty-eight. I’m twenty-three.

He speaks Spanish. I speak English.

He lives in Spain. I live in Canada.

He dresses in thousand-dollar suits. I’m covered in tattoos.

He’s married and has a five-year old daughter.

I’m single and can’t commit to anyone or anything.

Until now.Because when they say you can’t choose who you fall in love with, boy ain’t that the damn truth.

***

To a restless dreamer like Vera Miles, it sounded like the experience of a lifetime. Instead of spending her summer interning for her astronomy major, she would fly to Spain where she’d spend a few weeks teaching conversational English to businessmen and women, all while enjoying free room and board at an isolated resort. But while Vera expected to get a tan, meet new people and stuff herself with wine and paella, she never expected to fall in love.

Mateo Casalles is unlike anyone Vera has ever known, let alone anyone she’s usually attracted to. While Vera is a pierced and tatted free spirit with a love for music and freedom, Mateo is a successful businessman from Madrid, all sharp suits and cocky Spanish charm. Yet, as the weeks go on, the two grow increasingly close and their relationship changes from purely platonic to something…more.

Something that makes Vera feel alive for the first time.

Something that can never, ever be.

Or so she thinks.

Michel’s Review

The Fight For Her Series has gone from hot to smoldering hot.  JJ Knight has taken this series on an exciting and intense direction.  She has brought back some of the old villains from the Uncaged Love Series and added a whole new nastiness.  This group of rogue fighters and accomplices has done the unspeakable.  They have endangered Parker’s family.

Parker will fight to keep his family safe but will it be enough.  With the help of Colt and Jo, Parker will have a fighting chance.  Colt will bring in some interesting characters (these guys need their own books)  to help.  Maddie will prove how strong she is and surprise the readers.

Just when things are looking better Maddie will receive a text that will not only threaten her relationship with Parker, it will prove just how dangerous their enemies are.  Again it ended on a cliffhanger that left the readers biting their nails.  I cannot wait for Fight For Her Vol. 4 to release.  It is the final Vol. in the series.

Excerpt

I reluctantly admit, that girl in the movie is my Grace.
“Vaughn,” Felicity says as she places a gentle hand on my shoulder. “We’re gonna find her. Just write her a nice message in case she has a chance to log in. If he deleted her account, then maybe she’ll have an opportunity to get to that computer.”
I nod at her and take my attention back to the secret accounts we made. I pull up the pictures we traded. Naked selfies. This makes me smile at the memory. It was only a couple weeks ago, but I feel like she’s been a part of my life for ages. I feel like I’ve known her forever. Like our souls are connected by some ethereal string that was stretched taut from our absence. But the moment our eyes met back in Saint Thomas, we reconnected. We were pulled together by the forces of a long-lost love.
I feel like I’ve been waiting my whole life for this girl. I feel like she is my soulmate.
My fingers find the keyboard and I try to put that into a tweet. Try to give her hope with a few words and some well-placed hashtags.

Master @mrinvsman
There’s no possible way I won’t find you. Our hearts are tethered by love & fate. I’m tugging on that string – feel me? #OnMyWay #Soulmates

I press send and hold my breath, hoping against hope for a reply.
But the minutes tick off and I get nothing. Just nothing.
My phone rings and jolts me out of my funk. “Vaughn Asher.”
“Mr. Asher, this is Detective Torrino. We’re suspending the search. Grace Kinsella just called Channel 9 and stated she’s accepted a job in Singapore that was offered to her in Vegas last week in order to get away from you.”
Singapore. “Well, how the hell do you know that was her?”
“She confirmed her social security number, her childhood address, and her bank account number. He best friend Bebe Chambers confirms it was her voice.”
“So? My daughter can get that information. That’s not a confirmation of identity. And maybe she’s being forced to say those things? How about a picture? How about a FaceTime? How about you ask her to log into her other Twitter account and read the message that’s posted there?”
“The case is closed, Mr. Asher. We’re satisfied she left of her own accord.”
“Maybe she’s being threatened?”
“I asked her—”
“You can’t ask her, Torrino. If she’s being told to say something, then she’s going to deny it. And that wasn’t the job she was offered—”
“We’ve shut down the case, Asher. You can appeal to my boss if you like.”
I’m just about to protest again when the line goes dead.
“What just happened?” Conner asks.
“They shut down the fucking case. They say she called them and said she’s taking a job in Singapore to get away from me.”

Michel’s Review

Surrender is the latest release in the Disarm Series by June Gray. This novel can be read as a stand alone book or in series order. If you have not read the Disarm Series I would highly recommend this series. June Gray writes an adult romance that is emotional, sensual, and realistic. Her characters are dynamic strong people that are making the best of their lives the only way they can. They learn the true meaning of love, what is important in their lives, and grow as individuals. They are very easy to relate to. Each book flows beautifully and keeps the reader engaged to the very last word.

Surrender is a beautiful love story. It is about learning from past mistakes, moving forward in life, and learning to love unconditionally.

Julie and Jason were in a serious relationship. She was pregnant with his child when he was killed in Afghanistan while serving in the military. Julie is having a difficult time with her grief. She has a lot of regrets because she never told Jason how she really felt. She never told him she loved him. Jason accepted her for who she was and never let it hold him back from telling her how much he loved her. Julie regrets that Jason died not knowing how she really felt.

When she goes to Dallas for Eliza and Henry’s wedding , she meets a surfer on the beach. These two will stumble into a relationship that will be emotional and a true test of their spirits. Julie will have to learn to let go of her fears, express her true feelings, and trust destiny.

Neal is a carefree spirit. He lives in hotels, does freelance work as a computer programmer, and moves from place to place. He is a former Air Force vet that is still in the reserves. He doesn’t fear death and embraces life with open arms. He’s a firm believer that you have no control over your destiny. Death is part of life.

Julie has problems with Neal’s attitude towards life. She is fearful of losing another person that she loves. When she learns about Neal’s hidden secrets it gives her the perfect excuse to pull herself back and protect her heart. She does everything to push Neal away until she finds out that he has been called for another tour of duty. She is going to have to face her deepest fears. Can she overcome these fears and let Neal know how she really feels? Can she give Neal her heart knowing he may not return? Is love worth it? Can she get a message to Neal in time?

This book was so emotional. Both of the characters had valid reasons for living their lives the way they did. When destiny brought them together, it was for a purpose. Together they could overcome their fears, their shortcomings, and become better people. They learned that what is in the heart is the true meaning of happiness. They learned to live life every single moment with love.

I highly recommend the Disarm series by June Gray. It is superb. Surrender is another fantastic addition to this series.

About I SAW HER STANDING THERE:

There’s a budding romance on Butler Mountain, but in the hornets’ nest known as the Abbott family, keeping a secret is no easy feat…

Colton Abbott and Lucy Mulvaney have a secret. Colton’s nosy siblings have begun to put the pieces together, but it’s not like Lucy to keep things from those closest to her—especially her best friend, Cameron, who recently moved to Vermont to live with her true love, Will. But Lucy isn’t about to tell Cam she’s having a fling…with Will’s brother.

Flitting between New York and Vermont is exhausting, so Lucy is looking forward to a long weekend with Colton at the Abbott family lake house in Burlington. Too bad Will and Cameron have the same idea, and once Colton and Lucy are caught red-handed (and red-faced), will their clandestine romance lose its appeal or will their secret beginnings be the start of something lasting?

Tracey’s Review

When does one plus one equal fifteen? When you’re an Abbott of Vermont, and you’re one of ten kids, and you add in your parents, one grandfather, all the significant others, and, well, you get the picture

All that Colton Abbott and Lucy Mulvaney want to do is keep their burgeoning relationship a secret. Just between the two of them, because, it’s not really THAT kind of a relationship. They’re just having a good time, enjoying each other, and taking things as they come. But when Colton’s father decides that he and the rest of the Abbotts need to know the identity of Colton’s mystery woman, all bets are off, and things start changing faster than either Colton or Lucy could have imagined.

I love reading any book by Marie Force. The families that she writes about are always wonderful, and she has mastered the art of creating groups of people that readers identify with, want to spend time with, and just downright want to be a part of. I had somehow missed the first two installments of her GREEN MOUNTAIN series, and after reading I SAW HER STANDING THERE, I will absolutely be going back to catch up with the huge and vividly engaging Abbott family. From Elmer, the patriarch, down through the youngest siblings, and including all the various four-legged members of the clan, there is not one Abbott that isn’t unique and vibrant and so full of life that you can’t help but be completely sucked into the story. That Colton and Lucy are so great together, and kept me smiling with their sassy banter and obviously smitten feelings for each other is a huge component, and having all of the additional family members and townsfolk as part of the story was just an added bonus. Do yourself a favor and grab this one; it’s a totally feel-good read, and I couldn’t have enjoyed it more.

Shades hadn’t seen Skylar in years, and now here she was, the love of his life, riding back into his life on the back of a brother’s bike.
For years after Shades had lost Skylar, he’d tried satisfying the emptiness of losing her with booze, pussy and the club. He’d turned his frustration at having to give her up into a determination to climb the ranks of the club, but he hadn’t counted on the fact that the pull he’d felt toward Skylar had only laid dormant in him all these years. Or that all it would take to reignite it was just one look at her. And he sure as hell hadn’t counted on her showing up on the back of a brother’s bike.
When Skylar finally comes back into his life, will his desire for earning that VP patch stand in the way of any future he could have with her?
And when a rival MC shows up looking for Skylar, things go from complicated to damn near impossible.
Does Skylar come with more baggage than Shades is willing to sign up for?

When outlaw biker Tyler “Crash” Shaw volunteers his services to his club brother, Cole Austin, VP of the Evil Dead MC, he suddenly finds himself a rich girl’s bodyguard and babysitter. Well, it’s a bitch of a job, but maybe he can have a little fun with it. He thinks he’ll get a kick out of teaching the pampered stuck-up girl a lesson or two on how the other half lives. She can cook and clean for him in exchange for his help. No free ride for her. He intends to teach her that money can’t buy her way through life.

The world saw a classy pulled-together wealthy lady. All he saw was a spoiled little rich girl. A troublemaker, that’s all she was to him. Until she revealed the shattered girl inside that tried so hard to hide her weaknesses and fears with a façade of arrogance, attitude, and sass.

He’d tear down those walls she tried so hard to build, if only she’d let him.

Could the love of a man so wrong for her be the only one to save her?

And in his darkest hour, would her love be enough to save him?

From the MC’s California charter in San Jose, to the casinos and brothels of Reno, to brother charters in the Deep South, this story will take you on a ride of highs and lows that lead ultimately to redemption.

Michel’s Review

Looking for an intense Biker book?  Looking for a Biker series that is very realistic and portrays the lifestyle with complete honesty?  I highly recommend The Outlaw Series featuring The Evil Dead MC by Nicole James.  The Outlaw series features members from the various chapters of The Evil Dead MC.  The chapters range from the west coast to the deep south.  The readers get inside of each of these area chapters and gets a feel for the dynamics that hold the Evil Dead MC together.  The dynamic characters are larger than life.  These hardcore badass Bikers live life by their own rules.  They are in a class by themselves.  The women that love these men are just as strong as the club that rules their lives.  They embrace their world completely.

This novel features the Birmingham, AL. chapter, the Gulfcoast chapter, and the New Orleans chapter of the Evil Dead MC.

Shades and Skylar were young lovers when Shades was a mere recruit.  Their affair was a forbidden taboo by the club.  Although they desperately tried to defy the odds, their secret affair was exposed.  Shades had to choose between the woman he loved and the life he needed to be a part of.  Their relationship ended on a very ugly note.  Both Sky and Shades were torn to shreds.

Shades chose the Evil Dead MC.

Skylar chose to leave their world and moved on to Atlanta to build a new life.  She has led a fruitful and successful life for the last ten years until she meets Rusty.  Rusty is a member of the Devil Kings MC.  They are the rival club and sworn enemies of the Evil Dead MC.  Her involvement with Rusty ends in a very bad way when she finds him murdered in his own bed with her knife.  The suspicious evidence clearly makes Skylar look guilty.  She becomes a target for the Devil Kings MC.  Her life is in danger.  She flees Atlanta, with the help of her boss, and ends up back in Birmingham, Al.  The very place she swore she would never return to.  The  place that holds every ugly memory she experienced in her young life.  The  place where her heart was broken beyond repair.  The place where Shades lives his life in the Evil Dead MC.

Shades has always regretted how he handled the situation with Skylar.  She was the only woman that ever touched his heart.  When he runs into her again, he vows he will make amends no matter what.  He will beg for her forgiveness.  He will prove that he is a mature man that can give her the love she deserves.  He is no longer a recruit.  His position in the Evil Dead MC is secure.

As Skylar and Shades find their way back to one another, new situations will pop up that can tear them apart.  Her trouble with their enemies and his position with the Evil Dead will affect how their relationship moves forward.  Secrets will be exposed.  New problems will build upon the old problems.  Once again Shades will be put in the position of choosing the Evil Dead MC or Skylar.  This time around he plans on holding onto both his own way.  There will be nothing holding him back or getting in his way.

This book was loaded with passion, erotic romance, high octane suspense, hardcore scenes, and larger than life characters.  Their story will have the reader glued to the pages.   It is wonderful to watch two people grow from young lovers to mature passionate adults. Their lifestyle isn’t easy, but it’s theirs and they are going to live it to the fullest.

I have loved every book in this series.  The Outlaw Series has the same excellent quality that the popular biker series like the Undeniable Series and Reapers MC Series have.  All of the characters, including the secondary characters, are powerhouses in their own rights.  I am looking forward to future books in this series.  I am hoping that Blood and Ghost each get their stories told.  I am looking forward to meeting the women that bring these bad boys to their knees.

Nicole James is an amazing storyteller.  Don’t miss out on her fantastic books.

Review: All Broke Down by Cora Carmack- The Rusk University Series- Book 2

All Broke Down

Amazon ** Barnes and Noble ** iTunes

About ALL BROKE DOWN:

In this second book in New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Cora Carmack’s New Adult, Texas-set Rusk University series, which began with All Lined Up, a young woman discovers that you can’t only fight for what you believe in . . . sometimes you have to fight for what you love.

Dylan fights for lost causes. Probably because she used to be one.

Environmental issues, civil rights, corrupt corporations, and politicians—you name it, she’s probably been involved in a protest. When her latest cause lands her in jail overnight, she meets Silas Moore. He’s in for a different kind of fighting. And though he’s arrogant and infuriating, she can’t help being fascinated with him. Yet another lost cause.

Football and trouble are the only things that have ever come naturally to Silas. And it’s trouble that lands him in a cell next to do-gooder Dylan. He’s met girls like her before—fixers, he calls them, desperate to heal the damage and make him into their ideal boyfriend. But he doesn’t think he’s broken, and he definitely doesn’t need a girlfriend trying to change him. Until, that is, his anger issues and rash decisions threaten the only thing he really cares about, his spot on the Rusk University football team. Dylan might just be the perfect girl to help.

Because Silas Moore needs some fixing after all.

Excerpt:

I think I get it then. That decision I saw in her eyes back in the kitchen. That’s what this, what I’m about for her, too. I’m just another part of whatever rebellion she started earlier today. About doing what she wants, not what’s expected of her.

“We’re not talking about me, though,” she says. “So you went to meet your friend, and then what happened?”

She keeps her eyes down as she picks up the gauze and begins winding it snugly around the knuckles of one hand, and then the other.

“He said the wrong thing.”

“Which was?”

“Dylan.” Now it’s her that’s pushing too hard. I didn’t want to talk about things with my friends, and I won’t talk about them with her, either, no matter how gorgeous she is.

“I’ll guess. You were mad about what he did, and he wasn’t sorry.”

“This isn’t middle school, Pickle. He didn’t hurt my feelings. He said some shit he had no business saying, and it pissed me off. The end.”

“But you don’t think some of that anger stems from what you feel is a betrayal of your friendship?”

She finishes taping down the last of the gauze, but doesn’t let go of my hand.

“I think you’re analyzing me again. Making things more complicated than they are.”

“And I think you’re just a guy who doesn’t like to admit he has feelings.” She drags out the word, teasing me with some goofy smile on her face. I turn my hand over so I can clutch her wrist. I curlmy other bandaged hand around her waist and pull her closer.

“I feel plenty of things.”

The teasing stops. She swallows.

“I wasn’t talking about that kind of feeling.”

With her standing and me sitting, I’m eye level with her chest. I see the sharp rise and fall as she sucks in a breath. I want her in my lap again, straddling me this time.

“Doesn’t mean we can’t talk about that kind of feeling. Or experiment with it.”

“Is that Stella girl an ex?”

I cough, surprised. My throat twists uncomfortably, and it takes me a couple of solid breaths to get a hold on myself.

“Ah, no. Stella and I have never dated.”

“Have you—”

“Do you ever run out of questions?”

“Not ever.” She turns playful again, and I’m done doing this the careful way. If she wants a rebellion, I’ll be the one to give it to her. I want her against me, and I’m tired of waiting.

I pull her forward, insinuating my knees between hers, and her body naturally follows, settling across my thighs. Her lips part, but she catches herself before she gasps this time. I keep her steady with my hands at her waist and say, “I’ll make you a deal. A question for a kiss.”

Tentatively, she lays her palms against my shoulders. They rest there, her grip light and casual. She ponders my offer for a moment, and it drives me mad that she can do that while our hips are inches away from alignment.

“Okay then. Are you—”

I cut her off. “Not so fast, Dylan Brenner. I’ve already answered one question. We’ve got to settle up first.”

I wrap her braid around my hand like I’ve been waiting to do all night, and I use it to pull her head back just enough that I can crush my mouth against hers.

Michel’s Review

I have to say that I absolutely loved All Broke Down by Cora Carmack.  It was filled with humor, sarcasm, emotional angst,  a sense of comradery, self discovery, compassion, and sizzling hot romance.  Cora’s bubbly personality was reflected throughout this book.  Both of the main characters had their own issues that affected their lives. These issues never weighed the book down.  There was always a sense of optimism throughout this book.

Dylan and Silas meet in a holding jail cell.  Dylan has been arrested for a protest.  Silas was arrested for fighting.  They are both intrigued with one another even though they come from completely different worlds.  Dylan lives for her causes and Silas lives for football.

After the trouble the Rusk Football team encountered in the previous year, Silas is walking a fine line with the coach.  The coach has placed new guidelines and behavioral rules in place.  Three strikes and you are off the team.  Silas is walking a fine line after his arrest.  He has to get his anger issues under control and display leadership qualities to remain on the team.  Silas convinces Dylan to help him with his behavior issues.  In other words, Dylan is in charge of “BAD BOY REHAB”.

What starts out as a fun friendship turns into something more when Dylan and Silas get to know one another.  They see each other for who they really are rather than what people see on the surface.  As they both get to the root of their issues they will experience hurt and pain.  But they will also find new ways to deal with the pain.  Their newfound relationship will not only lead into the love of a lifetime, it will make them both better people.  They will bring out the best in one another.  But letting go of the negative traits for more positive traits is not an easy task.  Both Dylan and Silas will struggle and make mistakes along the way.  The final quarter will bring out the outstanding qualities and positive actions that will make them both shine.  Together they will win the game in life.

Add some sizzling hot chemistry, emotional moments, and romance to the mix .  It makes All Broke Down even hotter.  The chemistry between Dylan and Sylas is through the roof.

All the characters in this series are larger than life and make this series a champion.

5 starRobin’s Review

Made is a biographical account of fictional character Corrado Moretti. Although Made was recently completed by author J M Darhower, this novel is considered a prequel to Sempre and the Forever series. One of the best features of Sempre and Sempre: Redemption is the realistic portrayal of what life would be like for member of a Mafia family. In my mind, Darhower brought the Mafia to life in her compelling story which focuses on teenagers Carmine DeMarco and Haven Antonelli. For me, reading both of these novels was better than going to a movie!

Made is full of political Mafia drama that will hold you riveted to the page! It’s powerful, clever, intriguing, and disturbing. It’s different from the Sempre novels because it primarily focuses on Corrado Moretti, although most of the players from Sempre and Sempre: Redemption make appearances throughout the novel.

Corrado Moretti is made man in both a figurative and literal sense, for if you are brought into the fold as a lifetime member of the Mafia, you are considered “made”. We also learn how specific events and lessons shape the future of the “Kevlar Killer”. His character development is clearly evident. Instead of riding the coattails of his father, Corrado Moretti makes a name for himself. He earns the respect of the Boss, Antonio DeMarco, and secures permission to date his daughter, Celia. Corrado has a soft heart for his Celia, but he absolutely means business. If the Boss gives him a job, he doesn’t shy away from it. He is firm in his beliefs and deadly with a weapon.

Made is well-paced throughout the entire novel, but I also would have enjoyed reading about the latter years of Corrado Moretti’s life. Most of the written material in this novel is new, but there are a few occasions where events from Sempre and Sempre: Redemption are either mentioned or witnessed by Corrado Moretti. I found this aspect to be quite interesting because at times, Corrado seemed to have knowledge that Carmine and/or Vincent DeMarco were not privy to. I believe many readers will agree this novel improves the overall reading experience for both Sempre novels. My overall opinion of Made is extremely positive. Made is compelling and suspenseful, earning Darhower 5 stars!

The Empire State Trilogy

Installment #1

By Louise Bay

Synopsis

Anna Kirby is sick of dating. She’s tired of heartbreak. Despite being smart, sexy, and funny, she’s a magnet for men who don’t deserve her.

A week’s vacation in New York is the ultimate distraction from her most recent break-up, as well as a great place to meet a stranger and have some summer fun. But to protect her still-bruised heart, fun comes with rules. There will be no sharing stories, no swapping numbers, and no real names. Just one night of uncomplicated fun.

Super-successful serial seducer Ethan Scott has some rules of his own. He doesn’t date, he doesn’t stay the night, and he doesn’t make any promises.

It should be a match made in heaven. But rules are made to be broken.

Tracey’s Review

Anna Kirby has had it with romance. She’s had her fill of creeps, of guys that make her fall for them and then break her heart. So, on holiday in New York, she’s ready to just go with the flow, to enjoy herself with no expectations, and no strings.

Ethan Scott has rules. A whole list of them. But when he meets Anna Kirby, he’s ready to toss them all right out of the window. Because she has rules of her own, and, just like that, things are changing for the both of them.

A WEEK IN NEW YORK is the first in a three-part series by Louise Bay. I loved everything about this story, from Louise’s trademark quirky characters to the snappy banter to the unabashed attraction and enjoyment with which Anna and Ethan approach their week. Neither one is prepared for the intensity that they feel the more time that they spend together. The fact that they even continue to spend time together has thrown them for a loop, especially Ethan, and he’s wondering what the heck has happened to his rules. When it comes time for their week together to end, it’s harder than they think to say goodbye and move on.

I started and finished this story in one day. The bad part? I have to wait until December for Part Two, AUTUMN IN LONDON, and it is killing me. I just cannot wait to find out what will happen when Ethan and Anna find themselves in the same place as each other again, and look forward to more sexy chemistry and game changing developments in the story the way that only Louise can write it. Five super-sexy stars!

Author Bio:

I write sexy, romantic, contemporary romance novels: the kind I like to read.

Ideas for my first novel started to filter into my imagination when my reading coincided with a re-encounter with an old love and soon after I began what became ‘Faithful’, my first novel, published in April 2014.

Ruined by romantic mini-series of the seventies and eighties, I love all things romantic. There’s not enough of it in real life so I’ll settle for books and films.

I love the rain, the West Wing, London, days when you don’t have to wear make-up, being alone, being with friends, elephants and champagne.
